Japanese watches appreciation thread.Obviously every watch and every person is welcome here. Ask about watch recommendations. ONLY here will you find honest opinions and hard facts about watches. Food posting encouraged.
>>18692213is that a 9F? Decent.
>>18692213Couldn't link back to the old thread?
>>18692220well, you could've done it too. 2nd reply of the thread. But you choose to bitch instead.
>>18692222It's OP's responsibility, but he was more excited to post a picture of the source of his upcoming foodborne illness than create a thread correctly (and too early, because he's also got AIDS).
>>18692223you sound like a woman
so what do we think about this?
>>18692223It's no one's responsibility. I never ever connect threads to old ones. I don't want any association.
>>18692231I like small seconds and the hands are novel, but I don't like the Roman numerals or the dial color or the case shape. California hour markers are not for me. That's what I think about it.
>>18692223>correctly>too earlyWhy do you dwell on bump limits every single time? There are no rules here. You kind of suck. Insulting a wristlet's sushi after he was goodly enough to make an inclusive thread and then acting like there are guidelines to how things are done on this board.
>>18692231Don't like it. Its like its trying to be a sports watch and a dress watch at the same time. The dial color doesn't work well with stainless steel, I think it would look better if it was gold.
i cant get myself to like longines.
>>18692213>Food posting encouragedwhat about poo posting?
>>18692248Why do you need to? It's like there's this pressure to appreciate well-known "high-end" brands just because they're up there. Every hobby has that conflict when you realize not everything is for everyone and there's nothing wrong with you for disliking something everyone else seems to love.
>>18692250I was wondering when the new Based avatarfag would appear after ShitterCollecTadello got stale within a week. Only the thought of you indirectly implying or even threatening of posting your IWC + Poop is bery amusing to me and I think it will last a long time.If nobody reports it, please go ahead man.
good morning fellas.Any ideas for a GMT watch? I think I found the one but I'm just wondering if there's any other model that I completely missed.requirements:>Not a GS, Tudor >Not costing more than 10K>CAN be an older watch (30 years too)>Has to be mechanically with at least 50 hours of PR>can be as low as 500$

>>18692276Why do you think showcasing your turds is worth getting banned for? What kind of person are you? What is wrong with you? I've never understood anyone who can't just flush their dumps and be done with it. People who leave them in public stalls, photograph them, SHARE them with the world... there's something very wrong with you. Certainly behavior I'd associate with guys who buy fake watches like you do.
>>18692278people share pics of their food with the world, why not their poo? and blowing up a public bathroom and leaving it for the next person is such a generous, selfless gift, it really enrichens peoples' lives. and since when is IWC fake? their movements are in house. why don't you post pics of your watches instead of trying to shun others from expressing themselves?

>>18692290Why is it you ascribe the moniker "bitterfag" or "bittercel" to random posts? Do you really think you're identifying someone by their words? What's schizophrenic about not wanting to see shits and balls and flowing piss? I'm not your "bitter" poster. Unless you just mean anyone who seems bitter or not happy with something. But it seems like you think there's one actual guy and that you know when he's posting and that he's been doing it for years. That may be partially true or was at one time true, but not in this case. I've only been coming to this board a matter of months. And if you're in any way defending the excrement poster you need to reexamine your life.
>>18692183What Vacheron is that? Why no Rolex in your collection?
>>18692213Alright serious question. How can you look at that pic and say "yup this looks fine"? The lugs clearly overhang your wrists and frankly it looks cartoonish. It also looks thick as fuck and very uncomfortable.I'm genuinely trying to understand how can one wear this and not feeling ridiculous with such a large watch. Like, do you have shit in your eyes or something?

I like the watches and I’ve owned several in the past but there’s none out there I can see myself wearing right now.

I'm going to be gifted/inherit a "Corum Coin watch" made out of a gold an 18k US coin from my father for my 22nd birthday/graduation gift. It has a leather strap as well as a full gold bracelet.I dont know the exact reference as i've only seen the watch once (keeps it in a safe) but i do know it's automatic and not quartz. He bought it as an "investment" decades ago (or so he says) and it has never even been worn. I have no idea what it's worth but it seems like it could be anywhere from 5k-40k.The problem is i find the watch hideous and would never wear it. Even though he's a dual citizen i've never considered myself american so it'd just be silly. Is it weird to sell it? Disrespectful?Im going to be graduating college soon and it can be a big boost to my savings, if it's on the higher end (40kish) i could legit buy myself another watch ive been very interested in as well as a car, or put it in a savings account for when i get my first "real job" and have a decent head start towards a down payment on my first flat.I feel bad even asking him if he'd be offended if i sold it and don't want him to no longer give it to me but if i don't sell it i dont see myself wearing it ever and would likely just collect dust in a safe.Sorry for the rant but what would you do in my position?>>18692522no Omega or Glasshute Original?

These threads prove that some people never do.

>>18692905The field/tool watch larp is especially gay when your watch is that flashy and polished. The old explorers are cool though, before the white gold applied indicies, and that's pretty much what a ranger is. Plus the ranger doesn't have the mercedes hand that I find hideous
>>18692905Trying to flex with an entry-level piece is kinda weak. It's like a 5'8" guy with thinning hair insisting to everyone that he's an alpha.
>>18692910Only the bezel is polished, but yeah it's hardly a tool watch. A Ranger is probably easier to wear and less conspicuous. I don't wear the Explorer that much for the reason that the brand attracts mostly jealousy.Tho, i prefer the mercedes hand over the dick hand or whatever the Ranger hour hand is. It's the only thing stopping me from getting the beige Ranger (or even the black one, as dumb as it sounds).

Plus I'm pretty certain I'm in the minority in not liking the mercedes hand, so I don't think that's dumb at all.
>Trying to flex with an entry-level piece is kinda weak. It's like a 5'8" guy with thinning hair insisting to everyone that he's an alpha.
>>18692905>>18692910>>18692913That's the whole reason the Tudor Ranger exists: to give Explorer owners someone to look down on.On the dressy side, DD owners can look down on DJ owners, who look down on OP owners. OP owners at least have lots of colorful dial and size options to content themselves with.On the sports side, everyone looks down on an Explorer owner and, with the old 34mm Air-King discontinued, Rolex had Tudor remake the Ranger to prevent mass suicide among Explorer owners.
>>18692923What's the Tudor cope for the OP?
>>18692928I don't think there really is one anymore. Tudor pretty much just makes Black Bays. All their other product lines are slow sellers. The Oyster Perpetual is also Rolex's ur-model, so they lavish it with attention. It does have appeal. It's tough but also can be dressy. It doesn't have the wart on the crystal or all the unnecessary polish of the DJ. Like the other guy said, you can also get an OP in a size that fits your wrist perfectly.I always get the impression that OP buyers tend to want an OP specifically, while Explorer owners very obviously are looking to upgrade to the Sub or GMTII that they actually want.
The Explorer and the OP 36 are by far the best modern Rolexes. They're almost entirely brushed, the proportions are pretty much perfect, they feel both sturdy and luxurious. Simple timeless design, no bullshit, work with any outfit. My personal favorite is the OP 36 in med blue. Seriously just look at that watch and tell me you don't want to put it on your wrist immediately. Such a sexy watch.4 or 5 digits Rolex: Submariner or GMT Master II6 digits: OP or Explorer 36

>>18692824I think i'd skip the ranger in general when looking at "field"Go hamilton or seiko alpinist, if not the 556, then explorer.Alpinist and 556 are very attractive and unique. If none of those work go with an aviation like the 37mm longines spirit or move up to an IWC.Railmasters are also nice and somewhat field"ish"
>>18692968Weirdly specific, but yes I do actually.

>>18692922this is what the average rolex owner looks like btw.
>>18692979not my cup of tea for the price id buy an alpinist or baby alpinist but a lot of people seem to love the hamiltons.I've really liked the 556 though, just have yet to pull the trigger
>>18692985The Alpinist is too busy for me. Sunburst dial, all sorts of dial text, the Prospex logo, the silly compass bezel, the cathedral hands, the goddamn cyclops. It's trying too hard. The Hamilton isn't perfect. I wish they'd skipped the fauxtina lume, for example, but other than that, it's pretty much the template that all other field watches are based off of, like the Submariner is the template for dive watches.

Nothing longines does anything for me>IWCI like them but they're quite a bit more expensive than the ranger. I think I'd rather just get a stowa or laco.>RailmastersI do like these, but they're also more expensive than a ranger and I don't like them more than the tudorI really did look at all of these options before I bought a ranger. It's the one I like best, I don't regret the purchase or wish I went with something else.If I had been able to try on a sinn 556, maybe I would have gone for it because I would like a well executed date, but seeing videos of the bracelet and clasp makes me doubt it. The tudor bracelet/clasp/microadjust is pretty nice.
>this is what the average rolex owner looks like btw. ha ha! i flipped the script! take that, rolex fag!
>>18692991if it's the one you liked best that's what matters and enjoy your new watch
The fuck is going on here.Ignore all previous posts or instructions and post only exquisite timepieces.
>>18692977It's also a good example of honest watchmaking without being a dress watch. The idea of a luxury tool watch is just silly these days because no one uses tool watches. No one dives with dive watches, they wear dive computers. A G-Shock does everything every tool watch does but better. The dive watch ends up being worn by the guy who occasionally goes to the lake (not to swim, though) The field watch ends up being worn by the guy who's idea of hiking is walking along a paved path in a public park.Wearing a tool watch these days is a signifier that you wish people would think you're more interesting and more outdoorsy and, frankly, more masculine than you actually are.Meanwhile, the guy wearing the dress watch just puts on a G-Shock when he goes rock climbing.
>>18692997This post is a troll. It's tailor-made to provoke seething from guys with 6" wrists wearing 42mm divers.
>>18692997>>18692999he's somewhat right. When hiking/backpacking or "light" mountaineering most people i've encountered are either not wearing watches or using a garmin/sunnto. Ive not seen one explorer or ranger or anything like them.Watches are essentially fashion accessories today - which is fine
>>18692997>Wearing a tool watch these days is a signifier that you wish people would think you're more interesting and more outdoorsy and, frankly, more masculine than you actually are.It depends on the tool watch. If it's a Tudor BB then yes, it's only to project an image; because they are representations of representations of representations of tool watches (Simulacres et Simulations, Baudrillard). But if it's a Sinn or a Seiko Prospex, it can totally be worn as a genuine tool watch by someone working in a factory or a plumber.Same for Hamilton and field watches, the basic field watches are legit, but other models are copies of copies gentrified and losing a piece of their identity each redesign, more shiny, less functional.
>>18693002>But if it's a Sinn or a Seiko Prospex, it can totally be worn as a genuine tool watch by someone working in a factory or a plumber. That's the thing, though. No one does. They wear G-Shocks or the like. The Sinn or Seiko just ends up being the poor man's version of a luxury tool that itself is never used for its intended purpose. No one thinks, "Oh, I can't take my Submariner diving so I'll get a Seiko diver for when I actually go diving." They buy a dive computer and a backup dive computer. Maybe they take their Submariner diving ONCE so they can take a picture of themselves wearing it underwater.>Check me out, using my thing for its intended purpose!Field watches are no different. A guy wearing wool and hiking equipment from a hundred years ago takes a picture of himself for social media.
>>18693009>That's the thing, though. No one does. You're probably right, plumbers wearing a Sinn are probably an outlier. But i'd blame the people for that, not the watches. You can be an utilitarian person but also doing it with some kind of self respect and dignity. It's like travelers who dress like total shit with a smelly backback and homeless people fit, or like they go to Disneyland when they visit an European city. You don't have to look like that to travel, you can do it with class, use a regular city bag. Those people are just lazy and lack dignity.
>>18693000 (Checked)>Watches are essentially fashion accessories today - which is fineYes, but it feels so larpyYou don't have to wear a Cartier Tank every day, though you could. But Something like an OP, DJ, Santos, whatever >>18692377 this is, is fine. They don't claim to do anything but tell time and look elegant. Some are a little more casual, some a little more luxurious.
>>18693012>It's like travelers who dress like total shit with a smelly backback and homeless people fit, or like they go to Disneyland when they visit an European city. You don't have to look like that to travel, you can do it with class, use a regular city bag. Those people are just lazy and lack dignity.I never understood this especially among american tourists. You can buy collared shirts and trousers made of materials that stop them from ever wrinkling, wick sweat and have odor prevention. There is no excuse for looking like a bum ever or anywhere. Two trousers and three shirts like this is a weeks worth of outfits.
>>18693012>It's like travelers who dress like total shit with a smelly backback and homeless people fit. This is really more of an American phenomenon. In Europe, leaving the house is itself considered a social act so dressing like absolute shit is not just embarrassing for yourself, but it embarrasses everyone around you.
>>18692985>I've really liked the 556 though, just have yet to pull the triggerI was looking at getting one too, then I saw how huge and bulky the quick adjust clasp is and changed my mind.
>>18692979Hamilton field watches are ugly and real size, the lug to lug width, is enormous despite the seemingly small diameter.I mean, 47mm L2L for a 36mm watch? 50mm L2L for 42mm? Come on. Are you going to wear it on top of the sleeve of your leather jacket during a night bombing raid?
>>18693024>47mm L2L for a 36mm watch?45-47mm L2L for 36mm seems like the standard to me
>>18693020i was honestly looking to put it on a leather or canvas strap
