What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

My buddy has a birthday coming up, he's a carpenter who wears shit-tier boots into the ground; His boots get dirty from drywall and other workplace shit so he doesn't want to spend a lot on boots which I totally get but I think he'd see the benefits if he got some quality ones. Any reccomendations for affordable, quality work boots for me to subsidize?
I was looking at the Frank's Patriot or something like the Nicks BuilderPro. The Patriot looks really good aside from the roughout lower, I know it's common on workboots but I think it would be harder to keep it clean than smooth leather. I think he prefers the look of classic heeled boots but the Red Wings Moc wedge sole might be an option too, he'd be able to try them on in since we have a Red Wings store close by. Any advice would be appreciated anons.

Why do people still wear PNW clunkers? I've owned some Wesco engineers, Whites 350 cutters, and Viberg 310s, and they all kind of suck compared to jap stuff. All of the soles are fucking massive, they're absurdly heavy, and generally the finishing and clicking is mediocre. I would understand if you are actually riding motorcycles or hiking through the woods regularly, but if you are wearing PNW boots for fashion without actually putting them through at least some moderate activity, you are probably retarded. This shit is not fashionable at all. If you are not an active person, you need to sell your PNW boots and buy something dressier to match your actual lifestyle

No I have a pair just like that, same color but roughout. They got the same obnoxious crease. Problem is that there’s no way to fix it, I think. My loafers also have creases but – quite the contrary – they look good. They’re light and evenly spread and do not resemble a huge eye-shaped groove.

>>
>>18694749
Shoe trees do absolutely nothing for that. The crease is formed as you walk and drive. Shoe trees do not revert the process of creasing. Furthermore, if they’re so big that they actually puff out the leather of your shoes they’re going to ruin those shoes forever. Shoe trees make sense only as moisture absorbers.

When are we going to stop parroting this nonsense that shoe trees do anything to prevent creasing?
The ONLY time they do anything for creases is when they're physically in the shoe and that's because they're filling the volume of the shoe. The second you take the tree out the creases are back
Your foot flexes as you walk. Leather creases and moves with it. If you don't like creases don't wear leather.

I'm afraid you're kinda shit out of luck anon, they're my father's cowboy boots from the 80s/90s that I had painted black and resoled. They were originally a very faded brown that had almost patina'd to a faint olive color. They were made by a brand called "the Wehrmacht group" or "Wehrmacht original boots" but I can't find much info on them, probably defunct.
>>
>>18694789
NTA but PNW boots are kind of ridiculous and the original point made by >>18694564 actually has some truth to it. They’re not awful boots or anything and are obviously super durable and robust, but in a fashion sense they are just too big from their massive soles, and if you aren’t someone with an active lifestyle and you’re just wearing a pair of Whites in a city you just look retarded. People who aren’t really outdoorsy should be wearing something more refined. You don’t necessarily have to get a pair of $1500 Japanese boots, but even a pair of Trumans or Grant Stone would be more appropriate for such a person.
>>
PNW boots are literally for people with closeted weird foot fetishes

It depends on how autistic you are. Personally I am hyper autistic about whether the boots have very nice horsehide clicking, handwelting, a perfectly carved woodsman heel, etc.. I sold my Wescos and John Lofgrens and splurged on some Role Clubs which have always been a grail piece of mine and they are without a doubt the best boots I’ve ever worn. A lot of people will tell you it’s not worth it, but in my experience it was 1000% worth it since I got a pair that in my opinion has a better looking design but is also a perfect fit. I’m not telling you that you need to spend as much money as I did on boots, but i do think that the overall level of quality and experience you get from spending more on engineer boots does actually scale with the price. It is objectively better if you can get a pair made to measure since it’s kind of difficult finding a ready to wear pair that fits your feet well enough. If I was willing to spend $800-2000 on another pair of engineers, my preferences in order from most to preferred to least preferred would be:
>Unsung House (arguably the best pair of engineers on the market. M2M, perfectly designed, top tier leathers, handwelted, etc)
>Clinch
>Briselblack (heavily underrated)
>Zerrows
>Attractions

Everyone has different opinions about the Wescos. They’re good boots, but they weren’t something I was really into. If you care about having top tier finishing, clean stitching, beautiful clicking, close to a perfect fit, or perfectly carved heels, then you might want to look elsewhere. If you plan on exposing your boots to regular physical activity then a pair of Wescos is a great option

this is what 750 eurodollars gets you
>immaculate clicking
>precise stitch work
>awsomely thin heel caps and soles- light and dressy, going outside is cringe larping anyway, you don't need more rubber than this, stop pretending
>puckering of the uppers at the toes- testament to the hand lasted craft and an element of tasteful ruggedness
>heels trimmed to the stitches- tight as fuck, also practical weight reduction
>the design of the quaters combines angles AND curved lines- refined and visually unique
>unbevelled sole edges- beutifully geometric boxy shape

literally who even does a hand lasted, handstitched boot in america for ~$750 that would be better than this? nothing comes to mind honestly

All those leathers are finicky and annoying to maintain: Snake is too fragile; I don't see stingray holding up over time and would look like real shit if it got beat. Some kind of crocodillian would make the most sense.
I'm curious about shark, but again one of these stupid leathers that are hard to maintain. I suppose cowboy boots are meant to be flashy so go whatever looks nicest.

if they're too wide now they'll probably get wider as they break in and stretch more. is it too late to return them?
if not, insoles are probably your only option

They came pre broken in courtesy of some guy from ebay

Whats the female holy grail leather boot? What about warmer weather half shoes? What about zero plastic options?
I've been trying to find a pair of shoes for every season/occasion thats made from all natural materials but so far I haven't had much luck. Do I have to go all ancient and start making my own full leather moccasins or wooden clogs or how's that going to go down?
>>
>>18698217
You can go the made to measure route, find MTM a shoe/ bookmaker and they'll make it for your size.
I think the issue with asking for a grail boot for women is that there is no grail boot for men either, everyone has their own grail boot and that is something you should determine yourself the exact style you want. You can list them here if you want to.
>>
>>18698217
Women do not care about any of this shit. They just get whatever is in style at the moment that they can find at Zara

Style is secondary to be honest, I mainly care about there not being any plastic soles or other materials that aren't leather/wood/metal/wool/cotton/linen and that seems to be rather hard to find. I did find some MTM options online but the delivery fees are exorbitant and so far I didn't feel like pulling the trigger on 70 bucks on top of the shoe just to get them to me.
Ofc ideally I'd want them to be aesthetic too but I feel like they can't really not be aesthetic if they are handmade from nice materials so it's not my main focus.
I guess I'll keep searching. I think my next step will be make some felted slippers to wear inside.
>>
>>18698217
Have to agree with >>18698248. The only time I knew a woman to care about this stuff is when one of my exes wanted properly made, all leather, dressage boots. There's just not a good market for women's footwear that's constructed well. Carmina would be the only recommendation I could give, but honestly a lot of companies will cheap out on the women's line and I don't really know if they build them to the same spec as the men's line.
>>
>>18698284
Maybe I should just get men's shoes but I doubt they make them in my size. Maybe boys shoes, lol.
>>
>>18698217
you might have to make your own, there are moc making kits available

Can anyone ID these boots?

Multiple AI's telling me its the Blundstone 1911 Tobacco Brown, except from google images and the website they look like a much darker brown.
>>
>>18698313
Yeah, I've stumbled across them. I actually already got all the leather working tools together but I still have to source nice leather. Was thinking about getting that cheap sheep skin from the thrift store and use that for practice. Might be nice for warm winter slippers with the fur turned inwards.

How casual do you want it and what's your budget? I also don't like chukkas. Aside from the r/mfa connotation, it just feels like it's in this weird spot where it's not casual or dressy, especially if it's in a smooth leather.

I'm not really sure for the casualness aspect. For reference my other boots are Numzaans, Razorbacks, and Luosjiet Indy's. I suppose I'm generally fond of the service boot look. Preferably with a defined heel instead of a wedge, but willing to try new things. Price range ideally not more than $400.
>>
>>18694490
Okay, so why shouldn't I get these? Other than their lack of half sizes, they look good as fuck, and they're all black, which I love.

Jackboots were still worn well into the late war.

There's a reason why I bought cheap, generic boots.

It can't be helped.

G&G boots are done. Will post them when they arrive. They're an urban commando in black English grain that I got to be office boots for bad weather so I'll really be looking forward to wearing them more in winter.

There used to be a picture from this same Filipino guy wearing those tight ass jeans looking absolutely basedful.

There's a porker in gyw that has hundreds of pnw boots and it's probably over 100k USD down the drain since it's pretty much Funko pops collecting at this point.

I'm thinking my work boots are too cooked to be worn out with my outfit. What color Blundstones do you guys think would go best with these colored jeans objectively?

unless a boot/shoe does handwelted/channeled insole construction, everything is the same as far as process goes for GYW shoes.
A $2k pair of Edward Green shoes or a $800 pair of Crockett and Jones or a $300 pair of Red Wings is still built the same

>>
>>18703303
What’s “clicking”?
>>
>>18703909
The part of making boots where they cut the leather to then be lasted (made to fit a foot shape). Leather isn't a perfectly consistent material, poor clicking may have different grain patterns or weakspots or just look different between left & right boot.
>>
>>18703920
Thanks
>>
>>18703909
Not all parts of a hide are good and usable. "Clicking" is the process of cutting around the good parts and not using the unsuitable parts
Wolverine is absolutely notorious for their bad clicking. They will make an entire boot out of the throwaway pieces and charge a premium for it
>>
I bought a pair of the Viberg engineers they released last spring and I think I've worn them three times. The 2000 last fits pretty well on me but not quite as well as the 2030. Overall I think engineers are pretty cool but I can't decide if the style just isn't for me, if I prefer to wear pairs that fit even just a little better, or a combination of the two.
