Remembered the subject this time edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

does water actually damage suede or are people retarded? I clean my shoes with suede cleaner and then rinse it off with water and was wondering if im actually fucking them up.
People say it dries them which is fixable with conditioner after, or the nap gets lowered which is fixed with a brush which is again something you do afterwards anyway. So don’t get why they say it. Also how are you supposed to clean the lining if it is made of fabric if you’re not gonna use water.
I dab them with a towel to draw the excess water. Someone let me know if you have any experience on this.
>>
>>18717264
when people talk about damaging suede its the low quality split suede that is thinner
>>
>>18717265
That doesn’t quite answer my question cause I have some suede/nubuck shoes that I don’t know the type of suede for. And even then what is the damage to thin ones.
>>
>>18717264
>suede lined with fabric
lol
>>
>>18717283
Well it could be nubuck, but not smooth leather. If you just mean to snark at the lining this is just how some shoes are, so dno what to tell you bro go on snarking.
>>
>>18717264
nah it's fine if you just let it air dry and give it a brushing after
literally the first thing i do when i get anything new in suede or roughout is soak it with the water hose and wear it until it dries. basically breaks them in immediately
no damage at all. just give it a brush. if you're worried they make specific brushes for getting the nap back
>>
>>18717264
My suede boots went in seawater by accident and nothing happened. Dried out; better than before.
>>
Tbh I've never been much a boot guy in my life but in this past year I've gotten boots from Viberg, John Lofgren, RM Williams and Red Wing and in all cases I've had to deal with heel blisters. Sizing down was too tight, sizing up was too loose.
Are boots just not for me
>>
Damn good to know.
>>18717299
>brushes
The wavy rubner and brass ones? I have a small one and I’ll ise it after they’ve dried. Saw on one bottle of suede cleaner that it recommended to give them a brish while wet too.
>>18717315
Did you do anything to them after? I imagine you must’ve at least rinsed out the salt stains.
>>
>>18717349
Don’t get how this is a boot specific issue, it’s just a fit issue no? You can either look for different lasts or maybe get a custom made pair or make changes to them like more insole if their are too loose.
>>
>>18717350

pretty much all good leather shoes can and probably will give blisters. i like to do a couple hours the first day, 4 the next, 8 the next and after that they're usually broken in an i didn't get blisters
i've got straight to 8+ hours with brand new boots and regretted it every single time

How long should it take to know if boots are the right size? If it is half a size too big would I know right away?
The advice is to wear them around the house, but the websites say they won't accept returns/exchanges if there are creases in the leather or dust on the sole.

Speaking of belts, roughly how long would it take for the color on these boots to become a darker brown? Should I even bother getting another belt if I want to be autistic about matching?

couple of months depending how much you wear them
natural chromexcel is pretty characteritic and pull-up leathers are difficult to color match, unless you get the exact same leather belt

What? I've used even shitty $20 primark leather belts for like probably 1000+ wears easily

How do you break a belt?!
>>
>>18718537
Manual labor in FL. Heat, rain and humidity plus a lot of friction from boxes and movement. Target belts were falling apart at the seams and had a few where the buckle broke off. Since I switched to this one about 8 years ago it's held up great, being a solid piece of leather and the buckle is steel looped through the leather. I could really use a brown belt though, the one I got is all black to match my uniform at the time and could probably use a size 30-31 now since I'm on the last rung for a 32.

I need durable boots, my shoes are falling apart.
Budget is 250€ with some wiggle room I guess.

Me:
>Not /effay/ at all
>6'2"
>300lbs
Yeah I know, but down from 320. Also I lift (bloatmaxxer)
>Yuro 46/47 size, US 12/13

My usual fit:
Everything black.
>black t-shirt if it's hot
>with open black shirt over t-shirt if it's warm
>with black zipper hoodie over t-shirt if it's cool
>with grey coat over hoodie if it's cold
>black jeans, sometimes tech-wear pants, sometimes suit pants
>black leather belt, but I don't tuck in my shirts so it's not really visible
>black shoes (duh) and socks
Sometimes:
>Blue jeans instead of black

What I need:
>black boots
>comfortable enough to wear all day with wide feet
>durable as possible for 250€ish
>preferably no synthetic materials and chemicals / PFAS
>should have sleek, classy, clean lines; shouldn't look like a freaky sex toy
>no zippers, no velcro
>should handle the occasional hike or 20km+ walk
>insoles should be replaceable

Doesn't need to be /out/ tier, I would go and buy brass wire moccasins if I had 700€+ for shoes anyways.
At the chance that you guys lynch me: The last boots I enjoyed were Palladium Pampa Recycle Metro (pic rel), but they were so atrocious, my mother threw them away when I visited topkek.
I also wouldn't buy them again because I've started absolutely hating everything plastic since then.

Bros I've realized that sneakers make me look like a manchild so I came here
I've never worn boots, so I don't know anything about brands or anything like that; I assume americans and yuros make the best ones. So which brands do you recommend, or what should I look for in a pair that I want to wear in my daily life?
Something that isn't too expensive would be helpful...
>>
>>18720577
Bro like over 90% of the people out on the street wear sneakers, whether they look good or not aside I'd say a fair amount of them can pass off as not being a manchild. As long as the rest of the fit matches and you're not dressed like the Harry Dresden doorbell guy you should be fine.
That aside, Red Wing is the standard entry level bang for buck brand when it comes to boots. Not sure if ~$300 counts as inexpensive though in this case. Also just in case, get some moleskin or leukotape for your feet, heels specifically, whenever you begin breaking in new boots.

Thanks, $300 is a little more expensive than I imagined, but I guess that's to be expected if you want to buy leather.
By the way, that was just my edgy way of saying I'm sick of wearing the same five pairs of sneakers and want to try something new
>>
>>18720595
Harry Dresden famously wore flip-flops. I know because I will be one of the forty guys you will see dressed as Harry Dresden for Halloween this year.
>>
>>18720577
I recommend finding out what your actual size is before anything. I hate to presume shit about strangers, but in general most people that only ever wore sneakers and sandals don't know what their actual shoe size is. Not just the number, but width as well which again, most of the populace don't seem aware that feet and footwear come in different widths. Along the similar lines, knowing if high- or low-volume foot (or in-step) will temper your expectations of how the shoe will look on your foot.
>>
>>18720604
Just buy something you think looks good and/or ask for opinion on specific boots.
I'd suggest a pair of chukka/desert boots, there are many options, can be found for cheap. Causal, but you get a more grown up look compared to sneakers.

People here are interested in quality boots which, like many niche hobbies, is a deep rabbit hole and not worth your time if you're not really interested to learn more.
Proper boots and shoes cost more because because they're much more labor intensive than sneakers. There are many more hands-on steps in the construction. $300 is the minimum for something decent if you know where to look.
>>
>>18720577
Depends entirely on what kind of climate you live in and what you do in your daily life.

>They're expensive as fuck for made in China when you can get made in USA for near the same price now
woah woah woah you're saying trump is right about tariffs?
>>
>>18721814
Trump was so wrong about tarrifs every single person told him he was a retard and they finally repealed all of them because of how bad they were

distinctive without being too gimmicky, super low maintenance, not a scratch magnet like it would seem initailly, scuffs and scratches you don't want can be easily laid back down and brushed in, if it gets too shaggy you can just recondition with a waxier conditioner
doesn't crease since it's roughout, develops nice rolls maybe not as dramatic as some horsehides or shell, quite stiff at first for a chromexcel derivative but softens up
"patina monster" but it comes gradually and you got to work for it, people that get massive contrast in months are faking it
not a lot of variety as far as colors, dark brown is the best imo, cinammon looks disgusting worn in

brett viberg said outright that he hates the look of the yellow logo on vibram soles and that goes against his idea of "refinement"
>>
>>18721367
there is also drews, which may or may not count, since they only make some of their boots in the US and some in mexico
but so does jk and they are on the list

PNW is seen as as much a style of boot as much as one made in the PNW united states
>>
>>18721914
brett is a fucking retard who made his shoes unable to be resoled because he wanted his "work" boots to be dress boots
>>
i'm in a phase where i'm only interested in pull-on boots. engineers, cowboy boots, ropers, doesn't matter as long as it has no laces
>>
What do I use if I just want to deal with a scratch on a relatively new black horsehide boot there are like a gorillion different Saphir products
>>
>>18721956
how about just not dealing with the scratch because it will get a million more and it's not a big deal?

I'm looking for a pair of black dress shoes for work and found EGs piccadillys. I wasn't considering loafers before because I didn't like the shape and look until I saw the EGs.

For the EGs, I really like the narrower shape and minimalist lines/stitching. It makes it look more professional enough for work and nicer formal events.

Is there any dupes of similar silhouettes as EGs?
