I want a pair of the Brakehouse 3450 engineers T_T
>>18694490they're not that expensive. go for it
post boots NOW
My buddy has a birthday coming up, he's a carpenter who wears shit-tier boots into the ground; His boots get dirty from drywall and other workplace shit so he doesn't want to spend a lot on boots which I totally get but I think he'd see the benefits if he got some quality ones. Any reccomendations for affordable, quality work boots for me to subsidize? I was looking at the Frank's Patriot or something like the Nicks BuilderPro. The Patriot looks really good aside from the roughout lower, I know it's common on workboots but I think it would be harder to keep it clean than smooth leather. I think he prefers the look of classic heeled boots but the Red Wings Moc wedge sole might be an option too, he'd be able to try them on in since we have a Red Wings store close by. Any advice would be appreciated anons.
>>18694536
May I interest you with some high quality, handmade and hand-welted boots?
>>18694552
Why do people still wear PNW clunkers? I've owned some Wesco engineers, Whites 350 cutters, and Viberg 310s, and they all kind of suck compared to jap stuff. All of the soles are fucking massive, they're absurdly heavy, and generally the finishing and clicking is mediocre. I would understand if you are actually riding motorcycles or hiking through the woods regularly, but if you are wearing PNW boots for fashion without actually putting them through at least some moderate activity, you are probably retarded. This shit is not fashionable at all. If you are not an active person, you need to sell your PNW boots and buy something dressier to match your actual lifestyle
>>18694536>that will be $1,080 plus tax
>>18694563

Anyway, I love my MPs, they're the perfect boot to me. Rugged and tough, but still sleek enough that I don't feel like I'm wearing big tanks on my feet

>>18694621>>18694549Was also thinking the RW Moc would be good. Comfy sole, durable and hard wearing enough for carpentry work that doesn't require a steel toe

This type of crease is so fucking hideous and it seems there’s no way to avoid it. Grim.
>>18694718Got them 15 years back and they are a size too big, so I added some big memory foam inserts. Resoled them once already. Crease is just due to my gait I guess.
>>18694722No I have a pair just like that, same color but roughout. They got the same obnoxious crease. Problem is that there’s no way to fix it, I think. My loafers also have creases but – quite the contrary – they look good. They’re light and evenly spread and do not resemble a huge eye-shaped groove.
Thinking of retiring the iron rangers. They were my first pair of quality shoes and I've walked hundreds of miles on them but they're too bulky for my taste nowadays and they fit in that weird spot between shoe and actually tall boot.
>>18694749Shoe trees do absolutely nothing for that. The crease is formed as you walk and drive. Shoe trees do not revert the process of creasing. Furthermore, if they’re so big that they actually puff out the leather of your shoes they’re going to ruin those shoes forever. Shoe trees make sense only as moisture absorbers.
>>18694750It’s basically the only good-looking pair in your collection.
Why didn't you fags tell me about these things sooner?

>>18694564retard
>>18694749When are we going to stop parroting this nonsense that shoe trees do anything to prevent creasing? The ONLY time they do anything for creases is when they're physically in the shoe and that's because they're filling the volume of the shoe. The second you take the tree out the creases are back Your foot flexes as you walk. Leather creases and moves with it. If you don't like creases don't wear leather.

>>18694790how? even the pair that were slightly too small weren’t that hard to get off
>>18694795I have extremely high insteps and arches. Dude scanning my feet at Red Wing said I had the highest he'd ever seen Probably has a lot to do with it
>>18694760Everyone's entitled to their opinion >>18694780I'm afraid you're kinda shit out of luck anon, they're my father's cowboy boots from the 80s/90s that I had painted black and resoled. They were originally a very faded brown that had almost patina'd to a faint olive color. They were made by a brand called "the Wehrmacht group" or "Wehrmacht original boots" but I can't find much info on them, probably defunct.
>>18694789NTA but PNW boots are kind of ridiculous and the original point made by >>18694564 actually has some truth to it. They’re not awful boots or anything and are obviously super durable and robust, but in a fashion sense they are just too big from their massive soles, and if you aren’t someone with an active lifestyle and you’re just wearing a pair of Whites in a city you just look retarded. People who aren’t really outdoorsy should be wearing something more refined. You don’t necessarily have to get a pair of $1500 Japanese boots, but even a pair of Trumans or Grant Stone would be more appropriate for such a person.
PNW boots are literally for people with closeted weird foot fetishesand I mean really weird fetish shit, not just the regular foot fetish which is obviously fine
>>18694829we get it bro, shut the fuck up already. move on
>>18694564People just want stuff that feels high quality, durable and repairable. They could buy Goral sneakers but instead they go to the most extreme boot.

>>18694978with the boss its a full length vibram outsole versus the dr sole half soleboth should be that MP last with the slightly squared off round toe
>>18694986I'm genuinely torn over what engineers to get for my first pair. The Mr Lou checks all my boxes, but I don't know if it's worth it to shell out more for the Japanese brands I wish Almost Vintage Style still had his channel. The dude was insufferable but when it came to reviews he was really good
>>18694988i personally definitely prefer my bosses over my lofgrens, the stiffners in the toe and the heel pocket is a lot more noticeable in the lofgrens and they're just way less comfortable because of that. i'm personally not one to go over boots with a microscope and nitpick shit but i don't think the lofgrens were worth the extra ~300 over the bosses for me for the >boots :|>boots j a p a n :)
>>18694988It depends on how autistic you are. Personally I am hyper autistic about whether the boots have very nice horsehide clicking, handwelting, a perfectly carved woodsman heel, etc.. I sold my Wescos and John Lofgrens and splurged on some Role Clubs which have always been a grail piece of mine and they are without a doubt the best boots I’ve ever worn. A lot of people will tell you it’s not worth it, but in my experience it was 1000% worth it since I got a pair that in my opinion has a better looking design but is also a perfect fit. I’m not telling you that you need to spend as much money as I did on boots, but i do think that the overall level of quality and experience you get from spending more on engineer boots does actually scale with the price. It is objectively better if you can get a pair made to measure since it’s kind of difficult finding a ready to wear pair that fits your feet well enough. If I was willing to spend $800-2000 on another pair of engineers, my preferences in order from most to preferred to least preferred would be:>Unsung House (arguably the best pair of engineers on the market. M2M, perfectly designed, top tier leathers, handwelted, etc)>Clinch>Briselblack (heavily underrated)>Zerrows>AttractionsEveryone has different opinions about the Wescos. They’re good boots, but they weren’t something I was really into. If you care about having top tier finishing, clean stitching, beautiful clicking, close to a perfect fit, or perfectly carved heels, then you might want to look elsewhere. If you plan on exposing your boots to regular physical activity then a pair of Wescos is a great option
>>18694947this is what 750 eurodollars gets you>immaculate clicking>precise stitch work>awsomely thin heel caps and soles- light and dressy, going outside is cringe larping anyway, you don't need more rubber than this, stop pretending>puckering of the uppers at the toes- testament to the hand lasted craft and an element of tasteful ruggedness>heels trimmed to the stitches- tight as fuck, also practical weight reduction>the design of the quaters combines angles AND curved lines- refined and visually unique>unbevelled sole edges- beutifully geometric boxy shapeliterally who even does a hand lasted, handstitched boot in america for ~$750 that would be better than this? nothing comes to mind honestly

Whats the female holy grail leather boot? What about warmer weather half shoes? What about zero plastic options? I've been trying to find a pair of shoes for every season/occasion thats made from all natural materials but so far I haven't had much luck. Do I have to go all ancient and start making my own full leather moccasins or wooden clogs or how's that going to go down?
>>18698217You can go the made to measure route, find MTM a shoe/ bookmaker and they'll make it for your size.I think the issue with asking for a grail boot for women is that there is no grail boot for men either, everyone has their own grail boot and that is something you should determine yourself the exact style you want. You can list them here if you want to.
>>18698217Women do not care about any of this shit. They just get whatever is in style at the moment that they can find at Zara
>>18698244Style is secondary to be honest, I mainly care about there not being any plastic soles or other materials that aren't leather/wood/metal/wool/cotton/linen and that seems to be rather hard to find. I did find some MTM options online but the delivery fees are exorbitant and so far I didn't feel like pulling the trigger on 70 bucks on top of the shoe just to get them to me. Ofc ideally I'd want them to be aesthetic too but I feel like they can't really not be aesthetic if they are handmade from nice materials so it's not my main focus. I guess I'll keep searching. I think my next step will be make some felted slippers to wear inside.
>>18698217Have to agree with >>18698248. The only time I knew a woman to care about this stuff is when one of my exes wanted properly made, all leather, dressage boots. I bought a pair of the Viberg engineers they released last spring and I think I've worn them three times. The 2000 last fits pretty well on me but not quite as well as the 2030. Overall I think engineers are pretty cool but I can't decide if the style just isn't for me, if I prefer to wear pairs that fit even just a little better, or a combination of the two.

Guys I need loafers already. Don't wanna spend more than 300 yurop dollars, you know how it is. Kinda narrowed it down to these from Velasca
>>18710957And these from Meermin. Unless you guys have other recs. I checked Scarosso, but not sure I really dig them. I kinda prefer the Velasca out of these two. Not sure if blake stitch would be worse than goodyear welted, or actually better in the case of loafers. I kinda wanted something more out there, but I'll just stick to a basic loafer look.
Also, how do you like your trousers to look with loafers? People usually do no break on the pants, but I feel like a medium break with a wider non tapered trousers would be better. I'm tall and skinny and don't want to look like a pencil neck nerd showing my ankles with tapered trousers.
>>18710957>>18710958I have two pairs from TLB that I really like, they usually do a couple sales a year and can be gotten under $300, presumably same for euro if VAT isn't fucking you. I have a pair coming from Carmina, same thing got them on sale, but can't recommend yet until they arrive.

Whites/James Dean collab. So it's an 11" engineer without the strap on the 55 last $1,195Dunno about you guys, but I'll be skipping this one
Is Double H still a good brand for basic beater ropers? I don't need something made out of some Japanese monks ball skin folded over 9000 times, just some study boots that will last a little longer than my Ariat shitters.
>>18712515Looks nice, but the 55 last isn't designed for pull-on boots. With an instep strap it may have worked, but just plain like that they should have gone for the 1977 and a single row welt.
>>18712585The longer I look at those James Dean boots the more I like them. I love pull-on boots, my Pecos ropers are my favorite boots right now Only Whites last I have experience with is the MP which is basically a perfect fit for me. How does the 55 compare?
>>18712610My arches are sky high and so is my instep so I think the 55 would be good for me. I'm getting too old for things like Vans or Adidas or whatever anymore. I need proper arch support of my feet end up hurting
Are Beckett Simonon derbies any good? I want a pair of derbies but I can't justify 400 dollars for a pair right now. I hear they take a long time to ship, is that true?
>>18712619They make everything to order so yeah, takes forever
>>18712594The 55 is more snug through the heel than the Pecos and broader through the forefoot. It tapers, but not as much as the Pecos. I cant speak for the instep bc I only have one 55 last boot and its a lace up. Personally I much prefer the look and feel of the 4811 for lace ups, and for pull ons I just go thru Wesco or Attractions. Though if I did one from Whites it would be the 1977 last as they recently redesigned the nomad and cykel to grip the heel better.
>>18712515ROPERTARD ON SUCIDE WATCH HAHAHAHAHAHA
>>18712644Still living rent free eh lil b?
>>18712643I actually have narrow heels. Narrow heels, sky high arches and instep, slightly wide toe box. Sizing is actually a crapshoot most of the time which is why when I find a last that works I usually get more than one pair, which is why I have two pairs of MPsBest last for me personally that I own is the Alden Trubalance last. That shit feels like it was made with me in mind
>>18712624I see, but they're good/ok quality wise?
>>18712674Everything I've seen or read says they're good quality for the price, but take a long time to actually receive. As long as you don't need them right away I'm sure they a great option I looked at some pairs myself but never pulled the trigger

>>18713291My condolences.
I dunno if engineers are for me brosProbably gonna get some chelsea, side zip, or western/cowboy boots
>>18713291I have them and I don't like them. They're too bulky and heavy and have little in common with actual "barefoot" shoes. They attract dust and dirt like no other boot I ever had, I practically have to clean them before every wear.I tried to sell them but literally nobody wants them.
>>18701182>Jeans + oxfords is unironically a cheat code for looking stupid. I was going to write an angry comment thinking you meant OCBDs, but then realized I was in a boot thread and it was oxford shoes. Agreed. OCBDs are great with dark wash jeans though. You can even pair them with a boot (medium formality, not too formal, not too chunky)!
Picked up the RDT Stan boots today, got the last pair they had in my size. These are the first pair of "expensive" boots I've gotten. In hindsight I guess I would've been fine just ordering online instead of taking a long trip to the store to check the sizing since multiple sources say that you need to size down 1-2 sizes. But the fit is perfect, there's a bit of wiggle room for the toes yet almost no heel slippage unlike my Blundstones that require me to put on an extra layer of socks.

got a pair of these recently. Altberg Fremingtons (had to get the lady ones as they didn't have mens in my size).Pretty decent weight distribution across the sole, leather is durable enough, it's super easy to tie up and take off and the laces don't become undone while I'm walking. They're a big heavy for their size though, and don't offer much ankle support.thought I'd share as it's a nicher brand.
