Horology pertains to the construction, repair, and design of time pieces. People who's only relationship to watches is that they like to buy them shouldn't throw the word around to make their "hobby" sound more sophisticated and less shallow than what it actually is.

We've seen your watch at least 1000 times but, I took the time to think about it in a more objective manner and my conclusion is that; people don't actually realise what they're seeing here.
It is an anomaly in the watch world. I won't say that it is the best value for money that you can get, because sadly this term has also been dragged through the ground and it has lost its meaning, and yet if you think about it, the fact that you can get this watch below 2000$ does not make sense.
First of all, you get the, possibly, most accurate autonomous watch on the planet, no GPS gimmicks, no radio controll no internet whatever, it's just you, in the woods, knowing the atomic time without big tech and or the government being able to track you. On top of that, you literally have a feature that is usually reserved for much, Much more expensive watches- the perpetual calendar.
Technicalities and specs aside, what do you get on the finishing part? It is as good as a grand seiko in terms of Hands and Marker finishing- Spotless, Sharp and no impurities or rough edges to be found. But what does GS-Level mean? Well it literally means that your Markers and Hands do have, on a macro level, better finished hands than 5 Digit Swiss Watches. It doesn't matter if this fact makes you angry or triggered or in doubt, but it is a Fact. The dial itself, the way they did the perception of depth, shouldn't work but it does and youc an even see the sunburst effect too.
Okay so what about exclusivity? Well what defines exclusivity?
>Low production
Check
>Locked behind the country of origin
Check
>Rare limited edition on top of said rarity to begin with
Check
So what about the case?Well it is not zaratsu but it still shouldn't be as good as it is. It is almost distortion free.
But is it all perfect? I don't think so, no. It is too thick, the movement is ugly and the bracelet is below the standards that the dial and tech have set. But again,it's 2000$
>>
>>18695774
>>18695776
Compare it to the competition, at 2000$ what do you get from the swatch brands? ETA? Yeah... I mean cool. So what is the catch? The name, Citizen. It IS the fashion world after all and branding is, for better or for worse, the most important factor in the eyes of the everyday people.
Is it perfect for what it is? I think so, yes. There is room for improvement though, but said improvement would mean that it isn't the same watch, so I would not touch it. It being thick btw also means that it is more durable, so it isn't necessarily a bad thing. Especially considering that there needs to be room for the thermocompensation for the accuracy.
>>
The clock on this page is so perfect, is there any watch that can be this perfect? Meaning always accurate and also displaying ISO week number etc is a huge plus, a clock without week numbers is s failure (100% of them)
>>
>>18695780
High Accuracy Quartz (watches)
Smart Watches (these use GPS for the NTP server)
Atomic Watch: Radio-Controlled, Self-Setting Watches by CASIO
I will say that Casio Atomic watches are a bit of a pain to work through the manual but are close to perfect with keeping time. I have the same issue i want my Quartz Seiko alarm clocks and wall clocks to be crazy accurate but i would have to buy a whole entirely new setup for it. I do base those times off of my phone since that is more accurate than my own quartz watch.

https://wristaficionado.com/products/patek-philippe-complications-calatrava-5212a-001-weekly-calendar-stainless-steel-silver-opaline-dial-2025

The 5212A introduced a complication with no precedent in Patek Philippe's modern catalogue and considerable rarity across the entire industry: the weekly calendar, which displays the ISO week number — the internationally standardised system used across business, logistics, and professional scheduling — alongside the full day name, date, and month on a single dial.

Not quite. He got banned for ban evasion, which carries a longer ban. He tried to negotiate with the mods in this thread and insisted that if he served his original three day ban then the subsequent bans should be thrown out. It was funny but also a little sad. Swatches aren't 3ven cheap, unless you consider $80-130 for a loud, sloppy tolerance plastic shitter with bands that disintegrate in a year "cheap." You can literally get better quality watches from a gas station for under $20.

>disintegrate in a year
I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but I have Swatches that are 30 plus years old and they still work fine and they're on their original straps, which havent disintegrated.

A Swatch is a great watch when you want to mix things up. The name "Swatch" is a portmanteau of "Second Watch". The whole concept behind the brand was that you'd have your stuffy Tank or Datejust or whatever during the workweek, and on the weekends you'd relax and have a little fun.
You need to remember that when the company was founded, the idea of owning multiple watches was still not normal, while watch collecting was an extraordinarily niche hobby. Swatch was instrumental in convincing a generation of watch buyers that collecting watches was a real hobby.

Personally, I don't actually wear any of my Swatches anymore, but my collection has always had a relaxed weekend watch. In this case, the Hermes H08.

Totally. I wonder is swatch lovers ever touched or heard a Swatch.
It's loud as fuck and the plastic doesn't even feel like premium plastic, but some 1980s toy you found in the attic.
Pogs or action figures feel 1000 times more premium than swatch watches.

Why would you want a disposable watch to be serviceable? All the features that you, I mean ((we)) want will just add to the price.

Look at what happened with the Blancpain Swatch. Automatic movement (which itself is actually a very cool movement in terms of its engineering) but it raised the price and it flopped, while Moonswatches continue to fly off shelves.

Even if I don't buy one, I prefer an industry that produces creative output instead of an industry dominated by a bunch of diabetics arguing over the ideal diameter of a dress watch and whether a subsecond counts as an unnecessary complication.

The modifiable and upgraded case materials are a no-go.
Swatch does not like people modding its watches. Chinese companies don't care, but the Swiss do. Go figure.
Upgraded case materials? No. In order to maintain a healthy distance between a Swatch Royal Oak and a real Royal Oak, the Swatch must only ever be plastic. Steel is out of the question. I have ZERO doubt that some enterprising soul will make a third-party steel upgrade package, but that's not the same thing.
>>
>>18696176
Thats exactly what I meant, the only thing making the Moonswatch non-upgradable is the sealed case.
>>
Hating Swatch because they're made of plastic and are "loud" (?) is bizarre, and I say this as fucking sperg who will get angry at a watch for being 0.5mm too thick.

Fuck you people and your appreciation of "hundreds of years of history" as if that's ANY excuse for them to charge over $1,000 for ONE watch ever.

Fuck off for having a problem with the one time these brands are available to the 99%. You are not even rich; not that it would excuse your superior cunty sentiments. All of you fucking snobs can eat shit. Especially since you're poor and just kissing the ass of rich lifestyles and tastes.

You too accustomed to cheap shit made in the third world. You don't buy clothes made in the west, you don't buy cars made in the west,, so yeah, these prices look ridiculous to you.
Those watches are made in the developped world with normal western wages for a good part.

Intel makes cutting edge processors with tens of billions of transistors, designed in western countries and fabricated in western countries. A cutting edge processor like that costs like 300-500 USD. That still supports a massive marketing budget.

It is too far gone (all the gears are rusted) and it would mean basically destroying it to insert a new movement. Likewise since it’s a (relatively) cheaper Pre-Must it has a Brass base with gold plating which means polishing it would probably just destroy it.

I’m going to keep my 15705 but down the line later I may buy a new Tank if I save some money for it since I am not as rich as most of you.

They're not. Piaget still makes great dress watches and the lovely Polo 79.
They've just never been able to do steel sports watches right. It's not in their DNA. See the Upstream for a real odd attempt.

The Piaget Warhol is really fucking sexy. It's insanely overpriced though.

The funny thing is that, while Warhol was a indeed a Piaget collector, the watch he’s most identified with is the Tank.
>>

>Why do so many people have a problem with the Cubitus?
Mostly the rollout.

People were upset that Patek simply didn't make more steel Nautiluses (like Rolex with Daytonas). People didn't like that Patek didn't do anything to stop the wild price spike on the secondary market. They didn't like how Patek kept talking about wanting to discontinue the steel Nautilus (driving up prices further)

Then when this was released and the YouTubers, in between shilling the latest Ch. Ward, declared that this was somehow a disaster, Thierry Stern responded basically, "These people will never own any kind of Patek, why do they think their opinion matters?"

And once the YouTubers moved onto something else, you started to see the trickle of articles entitled "Actually...the Cubitus is kinda good."
>>
Hey do you guys remember the Speedmaster? What happened to that watch? Is Omega still making them?
>>
>>18696405
That makes sense - people hated the watch because they felt that, because of it, there wouldn’t be any more steel Nautilus.

Yeah so far from the grey market prices we can see that it seems to be pretty popular and apparently isn’t just being bought for purchase history. Otherwise, the grey price wouldn’t be twice as high.
I think the design is pretty nice and could actually in the long run stand alongside Santos/Royal Oak/Nautilus.

Definitely. The Cubitus is one of the highlights of the next generation of integrated sports watches, alongside the Moser Streamliner and Bulgari Octo Finissimo.

>it seems to be pretty popular and apparently isn’t just being bought for purchase history. Otherwise, the grey price wouldn’t be twice as high.
Anecdotally, a saleswoman at a Patek AD (I was there looking at other brands they sell and had told her earlier that pateks are out of my price range) I went to recently told me that a ton of people ask her to get them a cubitus but allocations are relatively rare and she just can't do it for most of them. I think the hate is mostly terminally online poor person envy. Personally I don't much like the cubitus though, and I'm also too poor to afford one

These are pretty cool, I want to check out the new 37mm model. I tried on the 40mm one but it's too big for me

It's supposed to wear large, otherwise they wouldn't have designed that bracelet like that. The lug to lug is only 45mm, which is just a hair more than a 36mm Rolex.
I definitely get that it looks enormous, like a cuff bracelet, and that can put a lot of people off.

I haven't seen the 37mm version in person but I suspect it will feel pretty tiny. If it's as comfortable as the 40mm version, then it will be incredible on the wrist

I don't even think it's that. I think it's just a case of trying to optimize engagement. Talking about Rolex and Patek gets more clicks than talking about Piaget or Glashutte Original. Being a miserable jerk gets more clicks than being well-considered or even positive.
>>
>>18696400
Yes but Cartier doesn’t need to coast off the fact that some random artist who made five hour movies of the Empire State Building wore their watches once, in order to remain relevant.
>>
>>18696481
>I don’t wear a Tank to tell the time. In fact, I never wind it. I wear a Tank because it’s the watch to wear.
Andy Warhol's hardly "some random artist", let's try not to sound too flyover now.

Cartier doesn't need anyone because they have their long history of excellent design and their reputation. Among watch brands there probably isn't any single brand that's more 'cool'.
Rolex went from being casual to being gauche, Patek is too stuffy, AP/Hublot is just gaudy, but wearing a small, elegant Cartier is always pretty cool.

Piaget's definitely had a couple of hits in their time (and quite a few misses) but they're just not as known. A Tank is one of those watches you can ID from across the room.
>>
I got to check out the Tudor Monarch in person at my local AD.

It's pretty nice. It works way better in person than it does in pics. The dial color is great. The size is just right and it's comfortable, but the tonneau-shaped case makes it look a little larger. I would have made this 37mm instead of 39mm. It feels better-made, a more premium product, than any Black Bay.
The case flanks are still a little slabby and I wish they'd have opted for a solid back to spare some thinness, since the movement is nothing special. It is not able to hide its thickness the way a Rolex can.

I think it would actually look really good on a leather strap.

The price is a little steep for what it is, but I might pick up some safe queen on the used market when the standard depreciation hits.
