How dumb do you have to be to lose money on a Rolex of all things? Can a watchfag explain this shit?
>>18695937Almost all models and variations are sold below MSRP in the secondary market, even for those you need a buying history and get on a waitinglist, so most people are losing money. That being said, I would assume the guy in the video bought a hype model on the secondary market at the peak of the crypto and covid bubble, way way over MSRP. Someone who buys new at an authorized dealer couldnt lose that much since its less than 60k MSRP new.

>>18696116So the implication is he bought it for 100,000 in 2022?
no different to people losing money on anything else. watches prices boomed, people bought the hype, suddenly 'luxury watches are a better investment that stocks!', every influencer is acting like you can 'get paid' by wearing a daytona for five years because youll sell for more. then the music stopped and steam ran out. pic rel is chart for all daytonas, the watch in the vid (john mayer daytona) is probably twice as volatile.tl;dr buy the news sell the hype. but retards love to buy the hype and lose their fucking money. this goes for all monetary vehicles
>>18696115Right now most waitlist watches on the grey market - at least in Europe - are so expensive that you’d pay more than the current MSRP, but probably less than you’d have to pay after price increases if Rolex calls you in two or three years.
How dumb do you have to be to want a Rolex in the first place? So generic and played out. So expensive and frequently knocked off. Such a risk if you don't want to wait years.
>>18696117More like $120k, I know math is hard.
>>18695937>lost moneyA watch is a piece of jewelry and a gizmo. It is not an investment vehicle. If you want to invest, buy securities. Do not mask your spending as "investment." You do not have to have a Rolex of any kind. You do not have to have that car, and you do not have to have designer clothing. You will not make money from it. Do not pretend you will. You are spending money. You are not investing. Stop mixing up the two to make yourself feel more financially responsible than you actually are. Repeat this to yourself every time you want to spend on stupid shit while pretending you are doing anything but.
>>18696119I am still waiting for the Submariner MSRP to drop then we will see the seething from investors lol. I take it that even though people collect dozens if not hundreds of these watchs(oil rich arabs) the saturation of the market will eventually hit somewhere. China is currently by volume the largest purchaser of these luxury(mechanical) watch brands but it might be shrinking due to the deflation they are seeing now.
