I make flat caps and newsboy caps and sold them today at a tourist trap park, it was decent. Just a hobby for the most part, nice to turn it into some cash, but anyways I feel like people don't wear hats anymore, what's up with that?Hell there's zero threads about hate on a board of fashion
general consensus is that people stopped wearing hats when they started driving everywhere instead of walking, and when sunglasses became a cool accessory which make hats kind of redundant.also having a highly visible class indicator on display kind of contradicts the national narrative that anyone can be a self made millionaire with just some elbow grease and some bootstraps.
>>18697924Hats, not including ballcaps and beanies, in modern times have a bad rep because of the fedora effect from 15-20 years ago. Shit's cyclical, so hats in general will probably come back at some point. >handmade $10aren't you undervaluing your labor a little?
>>18698222It was my first time so I kinda wanted to make sure I'd sell something, there's other people selling regular caps for 10 but it's the tourist stuff with the city name or baseball team. I think next time I'll at least charge 20.It's also kinda just a therapeutic thing to make stuff do any money I get from it is kinda nice.>Nice guy fedoras S guy said I should make fedoras but I also know how it'd look lmao I was thinking maybe s pork pie style hat, or a beret for women. Honestly I think making more girl focused hats is probably better, they're more likely to buy something for style I think.
>>18698302>there's other people selling regular caps for 10 but it's the tourist stuff with the city name or baseball team. I think next time I'll at least charge 20that's a good idea, people will know your stuff is better than the cheap tourist stuff
>>18698341You look like you review retro videogames on touyube and are on the autistic spectrum.
That's awesome of OP to be making stuff. I really expected there'd be a whole army of sewing machine people on this board but there is not. Trolls and assholes tend to drive away a lot of the creatives from this website. So those who swim against the current and post their work anyway deserve recognition. $25 at least for a homemade hat, OP. But considering time and material you should shoot for $30 or $35 on the street and $40 or $50 online. Sell on Etsy if you aren't already.
>>18698525I think this board is mostly thrift store people, which is unfortunate. Thanks for the vote of confidence, I'll start an Etsy for sure.
>>18698341that jacket is too small
>>18698477I didn’t post that pic in this thread (it’s likely Credor guy posting it here to make me look like a spammer). It’s supposed to be more of a 1920s menswear inspired fit and yes, I am an unironic autist so I don’t take it as an insult. That outfit is actually very pricey - Barbour’s red tartan scarf, newsboy cap from Varzar and a Cartier Tank “Pre-Must” from late 60s era>>18698721The jacket is the only “iffy” thing to me in that particular outfit. It’s kind of dirty and old at this point. Rest of it the outfit are A plus grade pieces thoMore often in colder months, I just wear a Burberry coat with the newsboy hat. The Aquascutum one is just for warmer months here in the Midwest.
>>18698477Here is actually a different outfit I use in colder months if you dislike that one. The pieces are >Kiton size 46 sweater (much too big for me. I like the intentionally baggy look)>Ralph Lauren flannel pants with Maroon color Husbands of Paris belt>Trickers of London penny loafers The two flat caps are the Varzar one and a heavier Newhattan one I have had since childhood. I alternate them based on how cold it is.
>>18698341Is that a Cartier Tank?Do up the middle button only, 3 buttons done up makes it look like a uniform.Get a clothing steamer. The tartan doesnt work very well with it. I would wear a blue dress shirt in stripe or check pattern.
>>18698829Yes it is a Cartier (the anon who posted the pic got it from the Tank thread). Also thanks for all the advice. I should wear it with a white dress shirt maybe and jacket entirely unbuttoned or only one button as you suggest.
>>18697924I wear hats pretty much any time I step out the door. I think unfortunately people have forgotten how useful they can be and how much they can complement an outfit.
>>18698829>>18698833you can do up the top two if you want.menswear stopped doing up the bottom button in the 1800s because the king of england was fat.
