SOTD: TdH EDP Intense

I saw a lot of people hate on this for the licorice coffee note. Was meh on paper but tried it on skin finally and its like a sweet licorice, not a salty one.
None of the orange from the original tho. Maybe a tiny bit of vetiver still.

I like it desu

It's not bad I would say. I wouldn't be mad if I paid 20 euro for some blind buy clone and it came out like that (I just sprayed it to remember, I have a sample).

I wouldn't pay designer prices for this though personally, just according to my taste. And I really love the original, love-love eau givree.
>>
>>18698023
i like licorice in frags so that's not an issue but on paper this frag smells like a huge celery note (and some bitter coffee)
will test it on skin later and see what happens
>>
>>18698032
The coffee note is that of a stereotypical french darker roast rather than a fruity lighter roast IMO. So yea a bit bitter.
>>18698028
I don't think it beats the original as a complete package but its meaningfully different enough.
IMO the other flankers are neither better nor unique enough. Haven't tried Eau Givree though, only the Parfum, Intense Vetiver and now this one.

What are some niche yet very subtle fragrances? Something that doesn't scream "CUM and BLOOD in the ASHTRAY" in your face but very subtly whispers "ssseeemen, incenssssssssse, sssssseaweeeed". Barely audible but persistent.

ELDO have a lot of those imo. Ghost in the Shell, Jasmine & Cigarette come to mind. Incense tends to be loud, but i found that Avignon from CdG wasn't too loud.
Most of Diptyque, Le Labo and Byredo are all pretty tame and subtle, though they lean towards more "clean" scent profiles.

You think Ghost in the Shell fits this? It's basically notorious for being the "pink handsoap at the public restroom" frag.
>>
>>18698231
That's still a lot of fuckin' frags by one designer to recommend one (1) frag out of the lot.
>>
>>18698337
Not every brand has the same consistency, some rarely make a bad fragrance, others rarely make a good one.
>>
>>18698352
I get that, but why the hell wouldn't you just buy samples first? I am willing to bet Nicolai throws samples at you if you request them (if you buy a bottle). There is fool me once, shame on me, and there is fool me 20 times (because there's one recommendation in that pile). That's just... I dunno, negligent? He can obviously spend the money however he wishes, but it still seems nuts to me.

I introduced a homie to Fragrantica, 10/10. We haven't even touched niche reviews yet, should I?
>>
>>18698335
You asked for subtle niche. it's a cozy lactonic frag that's niche.
the thing is, the notes you specified like incense, animalic or seaweed tend to be loud due to their aromachemicals. in most cases it`ll be hard to have these notes not be loud just due to their nature.

I got a bottle of Dior Homme Eau for Men, it smells great but the performance is feeble. I tried Dior Homme Original at the store and it smelled good but a bit too sweet for my taste. Eau for Men is undoubtably sweet but not as much and doesn't get as overwhelming with its sweetness, due in part to the concentration. It starts juicy and fresh, a bit generic with the sweet grapefruit, it doesn't transition drastically but there is definitely more to it with the cedar and amber. I know this is supposed to be a powdery iris fragrance but my nose is wonky with powdery notes. I get some of the iris but the sweetness and woodiness is what I detect most. Even the citrus is not zesty but smoothed with sweetness. Strangely for a fragrance of such concentration it is quite elegant, I think because of the coriander and the iris. It doesn't mean it can't be worn casually but it definitely begs and inspires some effort. For some reason the sprayer isn't as misty as you'd expect and is more like a hose. It leaves your arm soaked. It doesn't have the projection to be something everyone around you will detect but it does subtly remind you of its presence for the first hour or so. I want say it's a modest and classy performance but to most it will leave a lot to be desired. This is an ideal scent for a travel atomizer. After enjoying Eau for Men now I want to get Dior Homme Parfum (2014) which I previously avoided thinking it would be too sweet.

Eau for Men reminded me at first of Lancome Miracle Homme which perfectly exemplified the different styles of Kurkdjian and Demachy. In Miracle Homme, Kurkdjian has a maple cedar note that is outstanding but with little adornment. In Eau for Men, Demachy delves into familiar territory with a sweet cedar but expands the palette with grapefruit and iris. I like them both. It still surprises me that these two perfumers who are polar opposites were tasked one after the other with the same company.

Hot damn. Love the orderly presentation but hate the inability to see any depth. Assume it’s a good collection tho based on what I can see.

>>18698165
An anon in the last thread or two literally just purchased from them, so perhaps he will comment.
If my understanding of how they work is correct, the price of a single bottle looks extremely expensive (and it is) but they somewhat make up for it by throwing in a LOT of several high volume “samples” which are actually more akin to travel sprays. I haven’t looked recently but I think with a single bottle you also get like… five 11ml vials and two 2 ml vials. I double check to be sure.
My deal breaker with them is, as you said, they’re not an online store. You can’t just hit up their website and buy stuff. You have to email them with an order, they respond with a bill (which is set, you already know the cost), then you have to PayPal them the cost and then they fulfill your order.
As for the frags themselves, I’ve sampled IB before and while it’s good, I was more impressed with Chypre Palatin. If they had their stuff set up like a traditional online store I’d absolutely buy their discovery set and at least one full bottle, but as is, it’s not worth the hassle.

Personally I’d go for Bon Monsieur, Fougere l’aube, or even a vintage bottle of PRPH.
>>
>>18698380
>I double check to be sure.
I’d* double check to be sure.
>>
>>18698380
I am trying to find a place that has both Chypre Palatin and De Profundis to sample, this is proving to be pretty hard. I can find them separately, but the places that carry De Profundis want to rape you not just on the price, but on the shipping.
>>
>>18698382
Weird déjà vu considering, once again, there was literally an Anon talking about using some family member in Paris as a mule to buy a bottle of De Profundis like… 1-2 threads ago.

Zero knowledge about the frag, but if you can only buy it in person, which sounds like it’s quite a chore unless you live IN Paris, is it worth spending all the effort to be able to sample something you can’t realistically get anyway?
>>
>>18698385
Sometimes people sell it on eBay. Relatively trusted sellers. It'd be easy to check if they are attempting to fuck you over by checking the scent of the sample against the bottle.
>>
>>18698380
thanks man. i'll get a sample of Invasion and Chypre Palantin and see which one i get. unfortunately i don't think i can buy Rogue from anywhere that ships to Canada

What's /frag/'s opinion on wearing fragrances that are almost too opulent for casual wear? do you find an excuse to get dressed up just to wear them?
>>
>>18698394
I just wear them. How we define fragrances is based on experience. If you think something is opulent is because you smelled it on someone dressed up. If you wear something "casual" every time you dress up you will associate it with that.

Hiram Green is the most well known ‘natural only’ brand that I know of, but going natural only is not only extremely limiting, but dumb.

The best fragrances (and perfumers) use a balance of both natural materials and synthetic.

The “poor longevity” is an artifact of people going nose blind to IsoE. I prefer the EdT, but if you want sharpness I would say Eau Givree edges out the EdT.

>>18698557
Several, the concept of Concrete isn’t too far off from actually hitting the mark. I believe it uses rose oxide in a different way than most where you get that chalky, cold, earthy mineral smell of concrete more than the rose. It’s interesting. Worth sampling, I would never need a full bottle thought.

Also I think the bottle has a (very thin) concrete glaze, although I’ve never touched one to confirm.

Ordered:

Invasion Barbare with a black resin bust instead of the standard white. (They were nice enough to indulge my request, but apparently they don't make many of these. Something about them being special ordered, and the authorized resellers never ask for them. I kept seeing them and I figured they were some sort of Chinese knockoff, but no, they're real.)

11ml samples:
Invasion Barbare
Chypre Palatin
Le Barbier de Tanger
Bleu Satin
Cuir Cavalier

2ml samples:
Les Indes Galantes
Chypre Palatin
Bleu Satin

And the complimentary black travel spray.

They made no mention that I'd have to pay tariff fees, so they are probably picking them up. Apparently they're going to ship it out tomorrow via air mail. Frankly, if it's 2 or 3 day air mail... the price on the shipping and handling becomes pretty easy to swallow when you consider all the shit they are sending. Yeah, it's still expensive, but no more expensive than popular designer (even niche designer) brands. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the samples.

>Invasion Barbare with a black resin bust
lol that's fucking awesome
i may have to bite the bullet on these but i have no place left on my shelf
>>
>>18698647
Oh, one more thing I should mention if you are thinking of ordering from MDCI:

They are okay with you asking for up to two duplicate frags on the 11ml samples. If you wanted two Invasion and two Chypre, they'll do it if you ask.

i have a huge box of these laying around (originally use it to store coffee beans), i wonder if the retail staff think im schizophrenic pulling these tubes out of my bag to drop testers into? heres what i tested:
>replica coffee break
really liked it but i didn't get any coffee vibes from it
>aventus
seemed to be the strongest performing scent
>le male le parfum
the first scent i've tried where the word "sexy" came to mind. really liked this one
>ysl l'homme edp
smelled nice but was the least interesting of the bunch
>santal 33
smelled like leather and nothing else. like the most typical leather smell ever
>imagination
smells like a fancier hand soap or mens body wash, smells exactly how it looks
>>
If steam refunds Stalker 2 i will go buy TDH!!!!

it doesn't have poor longevity, I think it has above average longevity for a citrusy EDT. it just makes some people go noseblind to it quickly because of the high Iso E content
an ex of mine could barely even smell it at all, I think she was one of the people who can't smell Iso E
>>
>>18698557
it's a cool brand
also a designer brand that smells more niche than most modern "niche" and is priced normally instead of costing 300$ a bottle
>>

Did she have COVID ever?
>>
Bought several samples of relatively well-known somewhat feminine leaning scents.
Here's my first impressions (sprayed on paper).
> Baccarat Rouge edp
Ah, so that's what it is. I've smelled it a few times on other people. Spicy, a bit medicinal, a bit metallic? Not a bad smell, but for me it's too heavy and strongly associates with an image of a well-dressed, rich and annoying bitch.
> Cocaïne
Floral, fresh. Strong but not annoying or suffocating. Very nice, I like it.
> Forbidden Love (Lost Cherry dupe?)
The cherry note is on point. But way too strong, annoyingly sweet and sour. Definitely would not wear it myself.
> Narcos'is
Interesting somewhat sweet smell that is quite delicate and interesting. Like it a lot.
> Kirke
Pleasant, feminine. Dunno if I would wear it myself, but it's ok.
> Fleur Narcotique
Floral, fresh, soapy. All right, but a bit boring.

I'll try Narcos'is on my skin next I guess
>>
>>18698560
it has a bit of sweetness to it. I think some people just don't like the earthiness which is not that common in modern fragrances. it can also come off as a bit austere and sharp
but men tend to like it much more than women. which is part of why it's a good work fragrance but not great date fragrance
>>
>>18698687
I don't remember. she could smell my other perfumes fine. I mostly wear dior homme parfum for dates unless the weather is hot
>>
>>18698666
Satan, why are you refunding?
>>
>>18698555
edt longevity is solid
parfum is not so sharp, close to the edt and more potent but less silage
edp intense is also less sharp and just a very different scent profile. worse performance than the edt too.

I'm the anon that bought chypre palatin from a thread or two ago, bleu satin is very aventus-like, it's not bad by any means try it but it's pretty close in terms of scent profiles imo. L'homme aux gants has been on of the samples I got that is very interesting as well so maybe give that one a shot, I haven't given IB a full wear but that and chypre are their two most popular frags for a reason

Also is it just me or is pic related too sharp? There is something about it that i think is too cutting, I wanted to give torino21 a shot since I was looking for something icey/minty and I wanted to give it a shot but there is something about it that makes me think it isnt worth the price and that I would rather go for YSL Y Iced Cologne instead, going to give it a full wear tomorrow but that's my first impression

>No 01 Le Maroc Pour Elle EDP
>No 06 Incense Rosé EDP
>Phi-Une Rose De Kandahar EDP
His roses are his best. Le Maroc is a big rose and jasmine combo, really great. Incense Rose is a strange and captivating animalic rose. Rose de Kandahar is a beautiful and sophisticated but wearable rose.

>Au Coeur Du Désert Extrait
>No 02 L'Air Du Désert Marocain EDT
>No 03 Lonestar Memories EDT
His desert series is his most well known and while I admire the composition it the base notes are not to my liking. Lonestar falls into this category being similar to the others but very interesting.

>Heraud Extrait
>Sundowner EDP
These are his gourmands. Sundowner is a sweet tobacco which smells good but too much for my tastes. I almost got Heraud, it's a delicious chocolate with the best vanilla base note but once someone pointed out how similar the ambrox gourmand was to many other fragrances I couldn't stop noticing.

>L'Air Des Alpes Suisses EDP
>No 09 Orange Star EDP
>Phtaloblue EDP
>Cologne Du Maghreb EDC
These are his fresh scents. They are all very realistic but there is a note in all except the cologne that just doesn't sit well with me. Air Suisses is a great long lasting fresh scent if it doesn't offend your nose. The cologne is a sweet natural scent but doesn't last at all.

>Golestan Extrait
>L'Oudh EDP
>No 05 Incense Extreme EDP
These are the rest. Golestan is a bouquet of flowers, nice but can be too sweet. L'oudh smells like a mechanic shop but the base is floral and ambery. Attar AT smell very similar to L'oudh but stays plasticky and chemical longer, it was a good alternative because it was $100. His ouds are very interesting. I bought Incense Extreme but it's too strong for me. I would recommend it to someone who wants a dry and airy incense with good performance. I rather have Incense Rose.

>L'Air Du Désert Marocain NOIR Extrait
>Rose Absolue EDP
>Vanilla Absolue EDP
I have not tried his new stuff.

Ensar, Areej.

To whichever anon recommended Neroli Intense, thanks. I ordered from fragnet and it came today, it's exactly what I was hoping for.

Also got a sample of Amouage Beach Hut Man. 100% going to be going for a bottle of this. Exactly what I was looking for in a summer scent.
>>
A lot of this is over my head. What testers should I add for summer? H24 is ok. I don't like Nautica.

After trying both le beau le parfum and paradise garden I have decided I hate coconut notes or atleast ones where that's the major note
>>

Have you smelled Eros and The One? They are available pretty much anywhere that stocks perfume. Even drugstores. At least sample them first. Also get Acqua di Gio EDP
>>
>>18698804
maybe try some other Hermes like Terre or Un Jardin sur le Nil?
>>
>>18698557
got me a sample of concrete and kyoto.
Will give feedback when i get them.

>summer
Eros Energy clears the other two versions for summer. Go sample all three first. Basically every clothing outlet on earth has them to sample. Energy just fits hot as fuck and sunny a lot better than regular Eros or Flame.
>>
>>18698912
Agree but it's also not the freshest thing ever either. It's good enough though.
>>
Grey flannel is like the best deal in perfumery.
Such a unique amazing scent for next to nothing with such great performance.
>>
>>18698647
So is this all in addition to a full bottle?

>>18698659
>pulling these tubes out of my bag to drop testers into?
Anon, I’m confused, what the fuck are you doing? Because it just sounds like you’re stealing shit.

>>18698771
I got nothing even remotely animalic from Incense Rose, but I do love it.

Overall still a pretty good summation of Tauer.
>L'Air Du Désert Marocain NOIR Extrait
Sadly nothing but a money grab imo, builds nothing on the previous two and an EASY skip
>Rose Absolue EDP
Super jammy rose, not my taste
>Vanilla Absolue EDP
Wasn’t memorable enough for me to remember
>>
>>18698808
I have, and I like them! That's why I have their full size bottles in the cart. I will check out Gio, thanks!
>>18698811
Will do, thank you!
>>18698912
Thanks, I like Eros, and saw people posting flame so I thought I'd try it. I'll hit up Kohl's and check Energy!
I like coffee and tobacco and sandalwood, but a lot of the ones I find smell cheap/overbearing, or sickly sweet. Spice Bomb smelled like sweet cumin to me, and others had patchulie.

Today's deliveries. I tested Good Girl at Sephora and liked it, bought it as a gift for my woman, but Kouros I've never tried and people seem to hate it? Two hours since I've sprayed it now, I like how I smell like an antique esoteric store but I'd still prefer Azzaro PH as a fougere, more rounded and pleasing scent. I'm getting a bit of a headache but I enjoy the frag, just not sure in what occasion I'd wear this.
>>
>>18698796
What does it smell like? Have you smelled Colonia Essenza?
>>
>>18698796
Recently like a couple of threads back?
It really is amazing, feels so natural and pure, not overwhelming, smells like honeysuckle tastes.

I've bought this for a lot of people and they all love it. It's probably the best thing I've smelled overall and I have tried a lot of things (and I have like 120 bottles as well).
>>
Is Bleu de Chanel good or is it slop?
>>
>>18698912
Eros energy is way synthetic to me and a tiny bit pissy. I bought it because it smelled like an orange soda but apparently the aroma itself reads too chemical in absence of the actual soda.
>>
>>18699119
Yeah, I mentioned not being able to find it in canada and you or someone else mentioned fragnet. Was like $30 all in so I figured fuck it. It’s fantastic, probably one of the best cheapies there is.

>>18699122
It’s excellent. The L’exclusif flanker is slop though, but the EDT, EDP, and Parfum are all good.
>>
>>18699132
Wtf pissy? Not at all.
It's thick so feels synthetic yeah.
In other news I just got Afnan Supremacy Collectors Edition.
It's really barely there after two sprays and when I touch my nose I basically smell some ashy pineapple and nothing is else. mostly ashy smoke.

I don't believe in masturbating scents but people say this performs great, like wtf, do I have to masturbate it?
>>
>>18699213
I also got Ravine Ginger, this is actually a very cool scent in the realm of Tygar I guess? I have a clone of that and it's very close to this.
I think everyone would be happy with this kind of clean sweet scent.
>>
>>18699112
It's not like anything from that brand that I remember. It's like a slightly better neroli portofilo. Mugler cologne really close too.
>>
Thoughts on Aaron Terrence Hughes frags?

I got decants of Guapo, Hard Candy and Hard Candy Elixir. They smell very natural and are beastly. The downside is they were a bitch to ship to the US.
>>
>>18699236
It was shilled because he's a youtuber but then people realized they were just clones for premium prices.
>>
>>18699213
>Supremacy CE
>ashy smoke, pineapple and nothing else
Wow I thought this was the sweeter clone of the sweeter Aventus.
Have you by chance tried Aventus Absolu?
>>18699217
No, Ravine Ginger isn't close to Tygar.
The former is a fairly sweet ambroxan freshie with a thick candied ginger opening and a very generic drydown, the latter is juicy grapefruit, then a bit of musk and slightly dirty refreshing ambergris.
The only similarity I can find is slightly after the opening, where RG becomes a bit lighter after the candy opening, and I don't particularly like Tygar but I rreeaallllyy dislike RG.
