The truthnuke that killed japanese workwear fetishism.
>>18698708I'm not reading all that, lmao.
This was the gayest, most performative thing I’ve read in a long time. It was the fashion equivalent of reading an album review from Pitchfork. I’m still buying 501 repros from Japan
>>18698708That's a lot of words to say absolutely nothing. I don't know anything about workwear or Japanese fashion but I can spot Japanese (and Korean) clothes from a mile away, not because of the fabric but because of the design which I suspect is what people are actually after when buying Japanese clothes. I've noticed the article shares similar talking points to social media content surrounding European luxury and artisan fashion that has popped up in the past few years. The username also follows the same style. This content often bases it's criticism on a singular statement at the start of the video that the viewer is presumed to be already in agreement on>luxury manufactures sell the same clothes as budget conscious manufactures, you're only paying for the nameand then rattle off a list of accusations and well-poisioning attempts while avoiding to bring up any counter voices (to not dispel the magic). Some common patterns I noticed:>tradition has no benefit to it>your only paying for the prestige>the prestige you are after is unearned because you are being lied to>some reference to a social media post or online trend with an appeal to the majority, you are late to the party everyone is onto this>oddly phrases it's arguments in a way that is appealing to a left-wing world view (my guess this is because it's mostly targeted towards young people on platforms like tiktok, the way it's done is also very strange and unlike what you see by popular left-wing talkers on platforms like youtube)>it is secretly produced in china and that stuff just as good while being cheaper (never india, never pakistan, never thailand, never bangladesh, always china)If China is not mentioned directly in this way it is often but not always being referenced (in china people are doing X, china did something similar years earlier *insert example that completely misses the point*).
>>18698777Trips of truth. The irony about making fun of the japanese workwear "meme" is that its become a meme to do so without any specific, measurable, and consistent criticism of the japan-made clothing within scrutiny. A summary of japan repro/heritage/workwear is that japs became obsessed with american ivy league fashion in the late 40s and early 50s following the end of the war. This quickly translated into an obsession with levis 501s of the 1930s-1950s and other various classic workwear pieces like the Type I-III jackets, military jackets, etc.. They purchased a shit ton of the old shuttle looms to make denim and other various looming machinery for niche vintage fabrics and textiles to start learning to produce it themselves, and over a few decades they autistically reproduced the original pieces while incorporating experimentation with denim weave patterns, dying techniques, etc.. Now there's a massive market of high end japan-made denim, workwear, and vintage reproduction pieces that carry a relatively high price compared to normal department store clothing, and slightly higher relative to "high-end" american-made workwear. Japanese denim/workwear exploded in popularity in 2020 and has been consistently popular since then, so its naturally become a meme to take a contrarian response and make fun of people who have an appreciation and genuine interest in the way that japs make nice clothing due to the higher prices people pay.
>>18698777>because of the designTHING JAPAN
>>18698758>This was the gayest, most performative thing I’ve read in a long time>I’m still buying 501 repros from JapanLmao guess you didn't read yourself
>>18698777Literal midwit.
>>18698838>short concise statements are performative and gayWew lad
>>18698708Wow what a disappointment. All this directionless fluff, and the image stops at the point where he was maybe gonna say something interesting.
Both the “article” >>18698708 and this post >>18698777 are extremely vapid and downright stupid. The post possibly worse tho.The point of it all is that if you have an (legit) aesthetic preference for the past then being a fucking redditor open-mouth.jpg basedjak cuck for Japan is indeed the most retarded thing you could possibly be. You are quite literally buying the fake thing in place of the thing itself. Simple as. Same literal situation of you buying the “leather” bag from the Indian street vendor and the San Martin diver in place of the equivalent Swiss watch. Not saying the emulation shit is inherently bad or inferior quality, but it’s, well, emulation. You subhuman retards and all of the redditors out there have not yet learned to distinguish the copy thing from the new thing that happens in the wake of the old. A big part of Japanese industry is mimicry of old European tailoring tradition. Imagine spending 300 shitbucks for a shirt when you can still find THOUSANDS of classic shirts still in their boxes, sealed, unopened, but made in Italy in the 80s and now sold for 20 bucks. That’s the thing itself. The new thing that continues this tradition is the shirt sold for 150 bucks by the good Italian or European brand that inherited the art and the know-how. The fake thing is the Japanese muh-hand-dyed shit that comes at 300 shitbucks. Not hard to understand. You actually believe there are no European brands that hand-dye hand-weave the fucking jeans and charge you absolutely retarded prices? There are. Check out IMjiT35020. If that was a “Japan thing” there would be a whole soi-filled subreddit dedicated to it and regular discussions in the denim generals. But there isn’t either, because the brand is (rightly) laughed at and forgotten. A sane person doesn’t want to spend that much when the final product is the same as a pair of vintage jeans. I respect you if you buy new high-quality clothes. I don’t if you buy overpriced copies.
>>18698900>real 1947 501s cost tens of thousands of dollars >buy a Japan repro of the same thing that’s made objectively better than the originals for $250Oh my what a ripoff. Not every single person who likes Japan workwear or denim is a Reddit menswear soijak walking stereotype. A lot of people thrift AND buy some Japan pieces. It’s insane to me that people flip their fucking wig over the fact that people don’t really see it as a ripoff to spend $200-300 on an excellent pair of jeans that accurately mimic the golden age of jeans that they’re going to wear every single day for a few years
>>18698900>equivalent Swiss watch.yeah because buying the swiss watch that's 99% made in china 1% made by immigrants with a temp visa in EU, owned by jews, never used for actually keeping time because it's too imprecise, never used to dive etc. is BUYING THE REAL THING
>>18698900>omg why doesn't anybody buy European traditional clothing? You know who's fault that is? The Europeans. We live in a globalized, open market world where there is literally nothing stopping some European tailor or heritage clothing brand from investing good money into marketing itself. If they want to compete with Japanese clothing brands, they are going to need to get aggressive with their marketing. Are there some Japanese heritage brands that are overpriced? Yeah, obviously, but at least what you are buying is in an objectively very well made article of clothing with essentially zero flaws in its QC. Whether you personally don't like the patterns/designs that the japs use is a completely separate issue, but when someone buys a work shirt from Iron Heart or Samurai or whatever its not like they are spending a few thousand dollars on a high-fashion luxury brand that is giving you some objectively dogshit toilet paper piece of clothing. Again, if you want to bitch about how nobody pays attention to other brands that "deserve the recognition", that is 100% the fault of those brands themselves. There are people out there who shop at shitty department chain stores for clothes simply because they do not know what other options there are for brands that make way better clothes for a higher prices. Plenty of people are willing to pay the extra money for something good. This is obviously the case because there was an explosion of popularity in japanese heritage wear in the last 5-6 years
>>18698918LE JAPANESE JEANS ARE LE WELL MADE
>>18698921Yeah actually. Regardless of them being $200-300, what drooling retard would ever try to argue that they aren’t well made?
>>18698921>>18698923The article itself (in the OP) states that the best jeans they examined were by Momotaro (Japan) and Tela Genova (Italy). So yes, it’s not just LE JAPAN. You’re virtually missing out on so much stuff with this obsession.
>>18698930Yeah, literally nobody is saying Japan is the ONLY place that makes nice jeans you fucking retard. I’m still buying Japan denim because I’m 100% satisfied with the product
>>18698931I’ve tried multiple Japanese brands (I can even list them for you: Oni, Samurai, Tcb, Fullcount) and I still prefer my three pairs of vintage Levi’s and my one pair of vintage raws from Italy. Also can’t wait to travel to the USA just to try some of their brands, which look so good in photos. Moral of the story: turns out I’m not that satisfied with the Japanese product.
>>18698936That’s great. Not everybody likes the same jeans. I strongly prefer sugarcanes, Fullcount, and Freewheelers over any pair of vintage Levi’s I’ve owned. I have no reason to spend money on something I don’t know that I’ll like when I already own something I would consider to be perfect for my preferences
Japanese jeans that don't look like adult diapers
>>18698939Resolute
>>18698939lel, this
>>18698939Awwww, is someone skinnyfat?
>>18698942I am more fit than you.
>>18698942you’re retarded
>>18698943This is you. You cross your arms to hide your bitch tits that were produced from your skinny fat physique
>>18698948>the ape hasn’t yet understood that is a picture stolen from redditHow many times do you need to be ridiculed? Damn, what a dense retard.
>>18698948Not me, those are jap jeans lmao, is that your own pic?
>>18698951>"This is you"Man, you really cannot read
>>18698948>subhuman mutt doesn’t know well-made pants look good on anyone, fat or skinny, that’s why they’re called classic clothing
damn I'm so happy i didn't get thingjapanitis
>>18698953>Skinnyfat and out of shape subhuman look good in clothesOh man....
>>18698956Can’t you see this picture, retard? >>18698944
>>18698960>it looks goodoof....
>>18698961Good pants look good on slim people. Something that japajawnz don’t.>B-BUT YOU MUST HAVE LE BIG GORILLA BUTT B-BECAUSE I SAY SO
>>18698965>Shifts goalpost away from "good pants look good on literally everyone" to "good pants look good on slim people"
>>18698969Bro, you are just too stupid for this conversation.
>>18698965Damn I need to get a slim waistline again
>>18698970>Gets angry that someone points out their logical inconsistency and disingenuous intentions>Calls THEM stupidlmao broooooooo
>>18698976Your point for jeans being tailored like shit in the butt area is: >yOu’rE le sKinNyFat xDEnough said.
>>18698965butts on men should be illegal
>>18698977Strawman fallacy. The truth is that nobody looks good in clothes if they are out of shape. Imagine arguing that fat and skinny fat retards look good in anything
>>18698981>B-B-BUT IT’S N-NOT DA JAWNZ……. IT’S……. IT’S……. THAT YOURE LE SKINNYFAT!
>>18698982Congratulations, you managed to cherry pick some shitty looking cuts
>>18698982NTA, but you do realize that Fullcounts are intentionally designed to be oversized and fit slouchy?
>>18698985THOSE ARE ALL THE BEST-SELLING JAPANESE JEANS YOU FUCKING RETARD
>>18698987For sure I do. And they look like shit. You’re free to look like shit if that’s the aesthetic you’re striving for.
>>18698988Assuming one of those is the SC1947, please tell me what looks objectively bad about this cut. Like what was said before, nothing will look good on you if you’re skinnyfat or fat. There is no getting around this
>>18698994hahahahahahhaahhahahahahahhahahahha
>>18698989>wants to look like a homosexual lol
biggest irony to me is that selvedge denim often ruins workwear fits, I'll open an image and think oh hey this looks pretty good and then the guy has some retarded pinrolled jeans that fuck everything up
>>18698994You’re dumb as fuck lil bro, I’m not gonna tell you this again. You keep shifting the focus on the body, while what I said is just that a properly tailored pair of pants looks good on anyone. Since you’re likely 30 IQ you’ll reply with the greentext accusing me of saying an obese person looks good. That’s not what I’m saying. If you dress a thick guy with a pair of tailored trousers, the trousers will look good, because they are inherently good. This is not the same as saying the thick guy has a great body. He might not have a great body, but the trousers look good on him. Take the same exact trousers, but smaller size, and now dress a super skinny guy. He will also look good, because the trousers are good. Again, this is not saying his body is great, it’s just saying his ass looks good in those trousers. The same applies to jeans, there is literally no difference.1) The vast majority of Japanese jeans have either “falling” backpockets or too much room in the butt, and both these flaws are attested in dozens of pictures on reddit posted both by slim guys and thick guys. The body has literally nothing to do with how terribly bad most of those jeans are cut.2) Modern (current day) Levi’s also have the “falling” backpockets problem, so it’s not just the Japanese tailoring inability. Again, any type of body looks bad in them. This said, you mothefucking retard who didn’t certainly deserve this much of text, it’s pretty common knowledge that both vintage high-rise Levi’s AND some of the modern brands (e.g. Left Field NYC, Resolute, vintage Armani and Carrera, maybe the recently launched brand Omoto, even fucking Memesupply) do solve these problems.Japanese jeans are NOT the best in the world and if you’re gonna sacrifice your fit in favor of some meme fabric woven by and old fart in flip-flops you’re a fucking RETARD and you deserve to look like a fucking DIAPER.
>>18699009Nice effort posting. Nobody said Japan makes THE BEST jeans in the world, and I would hope nobody is retarded enough to argue that literally every Japanese brand makes “le droopy ass” jeans. Also, your obsession with ass is insane, those sugarcanes look perfectly fine and it’s all in your head
>>18699007You don’t need to pinroll or cuff selvedge denim
>>18699011nta but I can definitely see the diaper fit on the sugarcane ones, the ass seam is literally pulled between the ass cheeks and bulks up above that like he shat himself
I love thing japan
>>18699019abhorrent
>>18698777You should not speak if you have no knowledge on the matter. The guy in the OP regularly reviews higher end tailoring and he points out all the details that make them cost what they do. His point is that Japanese workwear is not made to any higher standard than other pieces at similar price points and as a matter of fact they are often more poorly made. You could argue that this is on purpose because Japanese workwear tries really hard to emulate cheap work clothes from the 50s but that does not change the fact you're paying a lot for very basic craftsmanship.
>>18698758Did you just fucking sayin Japan? Japan?! OmFg, Japan!!! Japan! I can't breathe, oh my God, Japaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnn!
