Vintage Cool Water Nr.1 choice for Gorillamaxxer
>>
Can someone recommend a good frag for me?
I'm looking for a daily scent that's refined and high quality. Whether it fits all seasons is kinda irrelevant to me because I have no problem wearing heavy stuff in hot weather, but I do want something that won't turn sour or unpleasant in the sun. Performance is really important to me and I refuse to spend money on something that doesn't last or project
Among the scents I've tried and liked, in no particular order I enjoy the following notes
>vanilla, tobacco, amber, sandalwood, iris, tonka, lavender, cedar, mint, cinnamon
Resins are hit or miss, they can be great but when they give the scent a syrupy "sticky" or medicinal quality I get tired of them quickly. Oud is not my thing except in frags that can barely be called real oud in the first place (like Oud Wood)
I don't like calone/calypsone, immortelle, tuberose, saffron-centric profiles, heavy lemon and bergamot, iso E centric "airy" bullshit. Overall I would like something that still smells somewhat masculine and attractive and isn't completely asexual
Max price is around 500 but if it's that expensive I'm expecting truly exceptional quality and stellar longevity and projection.

why does no one ever talk about chanel allure homme the OG? i just got a decant and for me its clearly the best, the peach, vanilla, woods, its incredible. edition blance right after. the sport flankers can kill themselves

Jesus Christ what a pathetic, lame, useless and retarded general.

Dior Homme 2011, Amouage Black Iris, Naxos if you want something pleasant but boring

Its alright. It reminds me of a more polished Lalique PH.

Lads, even after a while of not wearing it, always incredible how clean this feels. Dry, naturalistic, foamy, mossy scent. Pure class

Al-Rehab Lord is pure aids. I have no idea why reviewers, including gay dragon, nuthug it, it smells like detergent or something, just very sharp very chemical very shitty citrus.

This shit has staying power. I sprayed a patch on my arm yesterday from the decant, and it's still there. Granted, I wasn't sweating like a pig. It starts out really sweet for the first few hours before eventually drying down and the red wine really comes out. It doesn't smell like you're a wineo, but the dryness and richness from wine hits fairly hard as it mixed with the other notes. The sweet fruit remains, yet it's not overpowering.
>>
>>18713983
Is Naxos similar to Le Male Elixir? Honey and tobacco is a nice combo but I'm afraid of it getting sour in the heat (maybe I'm wrong)
Never tried Interlude Black Iris, any other Amouages I should check out? People say Outlands is excellent apparently, alongside the rest of that collection, Lustre, etc
As far as iris goes I liked DHI but got tired of it quickly, the old DHP was alright but I find that when a frag's main note is iris, it's too powdery or too light (didn't like Prada l'Homme or DHO at all).

Very interested in copping a 10ml of this when it's back in stock. Poms are one of my favorite fruits but I don't think I've seen it much as a note in fragrance

M01+Black Tea sample arrived. Very picturesque and raw black tea, exactly as I'd hoped. Just need to feel out the longevity before committing to a full bottle.

Is Serge Lutens the best bang for your buck there is in perfumery? Literally top tier niche quality at pretty much a sephora designer price point
>>
>>18714002
Naxos is not similar to Le Male Elixir. Naxos is a tobacco and vanilla backbone with medium sweetness and floral accents for a bit of complexity. All I got from Le Male Elixir was syrupy cupcakes.
As for Amouage, I have only tried a few. Royal Tobacco, Silver Oud, Gold, and Interlude are some other ones I like. Royal Tobacco is the most accessible. Silver Oud is dry and oudy, and Gold is a next level civet that I think most people couldn’t pull off outside very formal events. I havent tried outlands or anything from the line of beige bottles.
>>18714043
Yes, I’m sure. I’m not saying they’re extremely similar, and I’ll admit my experience with Allure Homme was limited to a blotter test at an airport. But that was the impression it gave me. I havent tried Amyris Homme. >>18714100
It’s pretty close. In terms of uniqueness, quality, performance, and price, it’s hard to think of a brand that beats Uncle Serge. I would say Amouage is pretty close but in a higher price bracket.
>>
>>18714108
Amouage, Lutens and arguably Frederic Malle are the only popular niche brands that still do genuinely complex and high quality perfumery. All the rest (MFK, PDM, whatever) are not worth it
>>
>>18714100

objectively it's some arab dupe factory like Lattafa or French Avenue
>dupes highly similar to the original at 10% of the price
>original pieces by famous euro perfumers for like $30 that no one seems to notice because they came from an arab slop house
>>
>sotd: Eau Sauvage Parfum
Great drydown that lasts forever, but I think the base spices/resins override the opening. I'm interested to check out a few more in this 'genre' like 3eme, Bel Ami, maybe Eau de Gloire.
>>
honestly i dont care what you retards say, ex nihilo is pure class

yeah I'd say they're the best thing you can get for the price

>masculine daily refined high quality
You sound basic, I recommend Viking, Born in Roma Intense and Pour Monsieur (Chanel).
If you're not as basic as you sound, also consider Special For Gentlemen (Le Galion), Spice Blend and Outlands, maybe even 5 (Rosendo Mateu).
>>18713993
It's a less pissy, more flowery and honey-like Kouros.
This type of scent didn't age well but it smells perfectly fine.
>>18714100
No it's not, and it's definitely not top tier niche quality, I've tried three or four frags from them and they all had the same thick syrupy elemi base, for the same prices you can find many Robert Piguet bottles at discounters, then there are Franck Boclet, ELDO, and surely more that I can't readily think of.
They make interesting and unusual frags but I definitely wouldn't call them the best bang for your buck.
>>
>>18714303
What is top tier niche quality in your mind?
>>
>>18714303
viking is bussin, thoughever
>>
I ordered the Tauer sample set and while I found LADAS underwhelming, all the others (Sundowner, Lonestar Memories, LADDM and ACDD) were amazing, especially the last two which are simply masterpieces.
However I'm not sure if I should order a full bottle of either LADDM or ACDD because I still can't decide on their daily wearability

Just got my bottle of pic-related today. It was a blind buy and so far a stunning success, but I’ll keep testing.
>bibliotheque
I bought it to put on my “books/paper/library” themed shelf, but was a bit worried because lots of reviews described it as a fruity scent… but I don’t get that at all. Sure, there’s a sweetness there, but I think the perfumer did a good job of making sure the musky/leathery smell was at the forefront and the sweetness is there in the side. Like a stack of old books that have aged and turned yellow, but with no musty-ness. Just the good without the bad of that smell.. so def not photorealistic.. but it conjures the image while remaining pleasant as a perfume.
>>
>>18714282
I've been eyeing their discovery set to try Speed Legends, seems right up my alley
>>
>>18714318
wear both on one hand and see how you feel about throughout the day
i personally wished i liked them but they remind me too much of an Arab spice market.
>>
>>18714343
>they remind me too much of an Arab spice market.
Yeah it's probably something like that. They smell great but I don't know if I want to smell like this, I don't mind amber and spices but the Tauers feel like landscape/ambiance scents more than personal scents if that makes sense
>>
>>18714282
no one was even talking about that brand
>>
wearing amouage gold man today, holy shit this stuff is good. definitely in the kouros category, but way smoother and more nicely blended. very no 5ish opening then a dry down in the spicy, soapy vein of prph or quorum, with a really nice musky animalic drydown, probably some of the nicest civet I've smelled in men's fragrance.
>>
>>18714359
Does amouage do stuff that doesn't have an animalic backbone or is that like their signature
>>
>>18714360
I haven't tried all of their stuff but reflection doesn't have any animalic notes and is pretty snice
>>
>>18714092
Fugggg:Dzzi
>>
>>18714306
Super hard to pick a brand here because everyone makes more and less interesting, higher and lower quality frags.
On second thought, the reason I wrote SL is def not at the highest level of niche perfumery is that I find their offerings aren't very varied, so their frags feels unimaginative after trying just a few, but there are some brands I would consider at or near the top, like Filippo Sorcinelli, that sport a somewhat monotonous catalogue too.
So after careful consideration I'd say Masque, Profumum Roma, Nishane, maybe Killian, maybe Jovoy, MFK used to be there but not really anymore.
It certainly depends on what you consider to be the hallmark of niche - high quality ingredients, imaginative and unusual scents, a complex progression or what have you; to me niche is, first and foremost, something different from the usual, so brands like Le Galion aren't up there because they make very high quality frags that feel classic rather than distinctive, and MFK used to be there because BR540 is a masterpiece in quality and innovation, Grand Soir was the first big amber only frag like that, but nowadays it's all so safe that it feels like a parody.
On a related note, I liked FK a lot more before smelling the new extraits he put together for Dior.
>>18714308
I too enjoy and wear Viking, but I hope you'll agree it's a very very safe frag.
>>
>>18714366
I thought Kilian was a meme
And why didn't you mention houses like FM, Amouage and PdE?
>>
>>18714360
Most of their stuff isn't animali, their signature is rather their thick dry amber base, and even that isn't in all of their frags.
I think it works well with Interlude Man, questionably with Memoir Man and very badly with Enclave, so look at them on a case to case basis and just try out what seems interesting.
>>
>>18714367
Kilian is a meme here because it's popular and comically overpriced and their marketing is funny, though every frag of theirs I've tried was so very high quality.
They're leaning heavily into this gimmick of making frags based on spirits and even those are great, albeit comically overpriced, I especially liked On The Rocks.
I didn't mention FM because I don't think their catalogue is interesting enough, they do make good frags and if you wait a few hours someone will come up saying French Lover is in the top 10 best frags ever, but I simply find them mostly uninteresting, from their most popular bottles to their hundredpercentrealhighconcentrationsupergoodstinkyanimalicbutstillrefined ouds collection.
Amouage makes high quality stuff and that's it, they either feel basic, like Reflection Man, or flankers of Interlude Man where their noses did their best to only change a few blocks and make sure the core Amouage whatever was still clearly present.
I've never tried a PdE frag, my usual niche frag stores don't carry them.
>>
>>18714378
I agree, all Kilian stuff I've tried has been really good and definitely very high quality. Some of their stuff is generic but they also have the best Fierce clone so the generic-ness has its perks
I thought FM's ouds were the real deal honestly, I haven't tried one that hasn't been beautiful albeit unwearable for me personally
As for Amouage have you tried the latest beige bottle collection?
Anyway as far as popular/luxury niche (as opposed to avant garde) goes there probably aren't more names to mention, and frankly I don't care much for the more experimental stuff, I think it's mostly overrated, people cream themselves over Gualtieri for example but I find his fragrances somewhat interesting but also pretty simplistic considering their hype
>>
>>18714360
Their major claim to fame is their exclusive incense resin farms and their infusion process (ie soaking oud or sandalwood chips in perfumers alcohol and using that alcohol to dilute the perfume oil). They don’t really do many proper animalics. I can only really think of Gold.
