Hello /frag/fa/gs, a question:
Last year I bought a 10ml tester bottle of an aventus clone made by the guy that made the original aventus; it wasn't to my liking when I first used it as I felt that it was way too sweet smelling. I used it for a bit then left it in a drawer for maybe a month or two and then when I tried it again I really liked it and the explosive sweetness i thought I had initially perceived wasn't as bad and the scent really worked in the climate I find myself in atm.
Ran out of the 10ml and when it was on sale recently I picked up a large bottle, produced only last week in fact.

Problem: I don't like the scent again.
I don't believe that I'm schizo and that it's all in my head. Nor do I believe that I just got used to it such that I, all of a sudden, liked it after having previously stored it away in disappointment.

Is it possible for a scent to change and mellow out somehow over time? I wonder if it was because of the air I let into the 10ml spray after having used it for a bit, changing it somehow.
Is that a thing?
If it is, how do I accelerate this process for my 60ml bottle? I don't want to use it, disliking it all the while, before stashing it for a few months before I can enjoy the damned thing fully.

Do I decant this shit into something? I still have the old empty 10ml atomiser. Would that help speed things along? Or would it make things worse?

They are generally quite good, nothing has felt significantly off from all the things I've tried. I probably have 5-10 of them too.

I love those bottles too, but nothing from that collection has appealed to me unfortunately. I also love the Lattafa gourmand series, bottles are so cute.

Today I wore my clone of PDM Perseus (French Avenue Pierce? I think) - without having the original and this side by side I cannot distinguish them. It's a weird scent, not sure if I like it, but it's sure nice for the heat.

I went to Zara and tried Ballade De Figiuer which fucking slaps for 20 euro, it's so so clean. I might end up going back tomorrow to buy.

Maceration. Spray it 10-20 times (just down the drain or outside), then store it in a dark place for at least a month. That will fix the issue. The company probably just isn't using the best QC or their formulation isn't being produced with the highest quality ingredients/more time intensive and expensive processes. This will probably fix your problem.

Every house has good and bad stuff but for more hits than misses I’d stick to Armaf, French Avenue, Lattafa Pride, Al Haramain, Swiss Arabian, Gissah, Assaf, I don’t think I’d ever buy this stuff without sampling / trying in store because their performance is wildly overstated everywhere, I’m forced to have tie-in sales and buy their less popular stuff and they are horrendous usually, bad performance, cheap replications of common scents. After decluttering these are all I wear and mostly recommend Al Haramain Dubai Night and Wajood mostly for winter / summer. Imperial Valley for all year. I stopped bulk buying Fragrance World, Rayhaan, Afnan because they are mostly shit carried by online influencer hype.

I come from the land down under and have no skill to describe scents.
There was some sort of fragrance I smelled a lot on a trip to Italy in May which I associate with the country since it was very common around the big cities Rome and Milan.
I assume it's a mens/unisex scent.
With absolutely no way to describe it, what Sprint/Summer tier fragrances would be very common to Europe that you don't find elsewhere around the world? Very certain I smelled it when I went even last year around the same time, so it's not brand new but definitely present around that time of year, worn by many people.

Got a 4x15ml set of Hermessences recently
Sampled 2 of them in store before, the rest was gambling

Not as much of a clean non-descript tea as I first worried about it being. Slightly dirty floral-leather on me. Doesn't last much longer than an EdC however, 2-3 hours max. Ironically this 15ml is probably the quickest one to finish if one is to reapply it like a cologne, but not something I enjoy enough to buy a full bottle of.

>Vetiver Tonka
The tonka bean is quite forward, yet all in all its not too sweet-gourmandy for me (generally not a fan of that style), but just so that it is noticeably different from something like TdH. I like it. Performance is decent, good for an Hermessence.

>Violette Volynka
Very smoky kind of leather, compensating enough for the very forward violet where it becomes unisex. Not dirty. Getting some Dior Homme vibes. Very different from something like Ombre Leather (which I like, but it's just very different).
The smoky suede lasts a full day in the office on me, probably the best performer of the 4. Perhaps my favorite Nagel scent, along with Eau Basilic Poupre.

>Cuir d'Ange
Closer to a "classic" leather, if you can ignore the fact that leather fragrances are supposed to stay around for a long time. Feels dirtier than Violette Volynka when there's no real smokyness + a lot of musks in this one. Slight whiff of gasoline/"car" in there. Maybe easier to pull off for a guy than VV.

Vetiver Tonka is for sure the closest to an all-rounder here for a late 20s dude, but desu don't think any of these will become a daily scent. If I have to compare the leathers, I actually find VV more wearable as a SOTD than Cuir d'Ange.

Bought a bunch of samples; a few initial impressions sprayed on paper testers:

LADDM -- To me, this smells very much like Orthodox Church. Like it.
I'm Not Going to Disturb You Homme -- Bought it because Yohji is based, and it seems like a hidden gem. Very pleasant spice and mild tobacco.
CdG 2 -- People didn't lie, Blamage is actually similar to it. But for now, I like CdG 2 more, - it's subtler, easier on my nose and somewhat more sophisticated.
Gris Dior -- Very nice earthy, mossy, and classy smell. Could be a great alternative to Sycomore for formal events and similar stuff.
Angel's Share -- Wanted to see what it's like. And damn, this is the most delicious-smelling fragrance I've tried.
Épices Volées (formerly Arsène Lupin Voyou) -- Spicy, herbal, subtle, and not annoying. Quite nice, but most definitely not worth the price.
TdH edt -- First TdH I've tried. "Dirty orange" is a good name for this. Very, very nice; I like it a lot.
French Lover -- Reminds me of a clearing in a forest with various grasses, some fresh and some drying, a little bit of wild light flowers. So fucking good.
Oud Rosewood -- Aggressive, leathery, animalic, dirty. I can easily imagine it being in a Nasomatto/Orto Parisi lineup.
Outlands -- Spicy with some sweetness and incense; feels like it subtly changes every whiff. Somewhat reminds me of Terroni, but much less smoky and more multi-faceted. Like it.
Promise -- Earthy, spicy, echoes of roses, a bit bitter. Complex smell; for now, I don't know what to think about it.
Gold Knight -- That honey note is amazing, almost not sweet at all. It's kind of honey that stings your throat. There is also something fresh, in a mentha kind of way. Or even ink? Interesting scent.
Wonderwood -- Very, very pleasant woody, creamy, clean scent.

Black Orchid -- Delicious and earthy, luxurious, slightly feminine.
Fleurs d'Oranger -- Very nice natural white floral; I get jasmine the most with some tuberose. Obviously feminine, but it's so good; I like it a lot.
Chergui -- A bit spicy, a bit sweet, a bit smoky. I liked Ambre Sultan, and I like this one too.

Bunch of Nishanes:
EGE / ΑΙΓΑΙΟ -- Green, fresh, aquatic, cucumbery, shampooey. Nice but kinda boring.
Wulong Cha -- Lives up to its name, straight-up tea smell, fresh, slightly bitter. A bit simplistic, but I like it.
Deziro -- Fresh citrusy with a hint of spices. Feels very familiar, but at the same time subtly different.
Hacivat -- Mossy, citrusy; I don't get pineapple at all, maybe unripe one? Not a bad scent at all, but for now I don't see the hype. If anything, I'd prefer TdH over this.

Now, a month or two to test it all on myself.

What is the comfiest most wholesome smelling fragrances out there?

Had an interesting moment with my gf's parents today. My father in law is into fragrances, owns mostly dupes and cheapies, and mother in law likes masculine frags so while they were visiting I had them try Black Afgano. Her eyes rolled backwards like she was smelling the best frag she ever had and I asked her to try and identify the notes since she's very much against marijuana/drugs in general but has a good nose from being a cook. Had a good laugh when I told her there was cannabis notes and whatnot. Using this story as an opportunity to shill this frag since I disagree that it's polarizing and distancing, it's very cozy and intriguing for me, and could be a recommendation for >>18729737 in my completely honest opinion. Have you tried Iced? Me and another Anon just so happened to have sampled it the same day, and it's pretty neat. We both agreed that the gimmick is just that: a gimmick but it actually works, the only complaint is that the "Iced" part goes away after about an hour or so, but otherwise it's still Y so you aren't really losing anything. It'd be pretty cool if they could figure out a way to make the gimmick work for 4-5 hours, but if you could get it discounted and you wanted Y, then Iced would be the way to go, IMO.

Gualtieri’s oud accord is not like any other oud you would be familiar with. It’s not really oudy at all. Stercus is slightly sweet nutty-aldehydic on top with that earthy, slightly fluffy, oily oud accord base. It’s a difficult fragrance to describe and one of the most unique fragrances I’ve tried. Certainly not generic.

I haven’t worn Stercus in the heat. I find it best in cooler autumn or early spring weather. Cooler temps seem to sharpen up the notes. Gaultieri doesnt really do overly clean stuff, either. If you’re looking for an oud that performs well in heat, try MFK Oud/Oud Extrait, or some of the Dior Privees like Oud Rosewood or Oud Ispahan.

I wear Escada Pour Homme to bed and it's so cozy and comfy when it's cold, I blast the AC in summer for it. I think fragrance is the antitheses of wholesome but maybe a light cologne like Cologne Bigarade is as close as you can get.
