My journey in search of the perfect leather fragrance begins. Today I tried these two; first impressions:>Chanel Cuir de Russie EDPClassic Chanel opening with aldehyde notes, a very classic, old-fashioned perfume. Floral heart, the jasmine is quite rich, with hints of rose and citrus. It's powdery. I don't detect any leather at all. In the dry-down, I can detect something smoky; with a little imagination, I can conjure up the leather in my mind.>Tom Ford Ombre Leather EDP 18I had high expectations for this one. Total disappointment. It's a watered-down Tascan Leather with a sweet note that overpowers the leather accord.It's not at all a refined version of Tascan Leather.Where are the floral nuances? Memory can be a huge reason for whether or not we perceive certain notes and how they interact with each other (etc. why some might smell caramel, and another burnt tires). Certain synthetic molecules might trigger different perceptions based on how they bind to your unique receptors. You might just anosmic to amber or wood notes. If you perceive a honey warmth or just something slightly earthy, you’re still smelling the amber and woods, but sometimes they change in a way that might be difficult to detect. It’s all highly subjective.If I’m anosmic to a fragrance, I might only perceive notes, some might be faint in the background but not in a way that registers as a perfume, or I straight up don’t sense I’m smelling anything at all.

SOTD : Mefisto GentiluomoClean, elegant, a little more powdery than I would have liked. Good longevity for a fresh non-offensive summer scent. Bottle design is a winner for me. Overall a pleasant blind buy, I think if it had been marginally less powdery I would use it as a signature for summer.

They added a bit of white florals in the drydown which gives it a soapy vibe but it’s not too distracting. Speaking about marine frags, there’s something about Acqua di Gio line that disgusts me. It smells like a rotten fruit. I can smell it the most in Profumo flanker. I think this is the calone molecule, right?

So you're likely looking for a frag with the main comp being mineralic and possibly a bit salty. Problem is all the frags I can think of with those notes either have aquatic notes mixed in, or citruses, herbs, etc.For what it's worth Eden-Roc does remind me of the beach, the salt, the sand, the trees all on the wind.Acqua di Sale is also a good pick, but definitely more marine smelling, and herbal

>>18740501Really quick initial notes. Silent Rain and Desert Hope are both vegetative. I can barely smell the rose that's supposed to be in Desert Hope, it's more like the stems from one. Silent Rain is green, but refreshing, the goal of trying to capture the scent of a space after a rain shower is pretty on the mark here. Provided you're talking about a village, or a nice home. Not the city. Think soil, gardens, wet earth. There is something else in that's... creamy I can't put my finger on. It's intriguing but I don't think I'd buy a bottle because who truly wants to smell like they just stepped in from the rain. Desert Hope is a skip. It's boring. Dear Future is sexy. It would smell nice on men and women. It's extremely attractive. They won't give up what ingredients are in, it but I could easily find myself dragging my tongue across the skin of whoever had this on. This is genuinely amazing. A pure date night frag if there ever was one, or something you'd wear to get the attention of someone special. I am absolutely buying at least a half of a bottle of this if I can. Burning Bridges disappointed me. It starts out very warm and spicy. Think Spice Bomb Extreme but less synthetic. Unfortunately that goes away rather quickly, because it meshed quite nice with the smoky wood they have going on. It dries down really fast into burnt wood. Skip it. If you really want something like that, Pineward exists as a designer. Ritual Code is super interesting as well. Imagine a Series 3 frag, but the goal was to capture an indigenous ritual. It's smoky, but not woody. It's warm, and there is enough resin to stand out. You can grab onto the ash, which compliments in the same way that incense does to those sorts of frags I just mentioned. It's primal, but not animalistic. Think dudes high on some mystery concoction wailing and dancing around a fire before embarking on a vision quest. I know, purple prose-y, but it's why I think of Series 3.

You can even double up. I ordered Barbare and then two 11ml samples of Barbare to go along with it (and they give you five). >>18740628Buy samples/kits. Test the samples. I like sample. I buy bottle. Repeat. I'm basically at the end of collecting at this point anyway. I have maybe four more frags to add, and that's it. I could see myself adding a few more over the next few years beyond that, but that's it. As for your observation, you have your own answer. I just rotate through a different frag each day. Most of these don't require me to spray 10 times, or respray during the day, it's why I bought them. I put longevity on par with how good it smells. It could smell great, but if the longevity is bad, I'll avoid it. There is only one exception to this that I own which wasn't a blind buy.
