My journey in search of the perfect leather fragrance begins. Today I tried these two; first impressions:>Chanel Cuir de Russie EDPClassic Chanel opening with aldehyde notes, a very classic, old-fashioned perfume. Floral heart, the jasmine is quite rich, with hints of rose and citrus. It's powdery. I don't detect any leather at all. In the dry-down, I can detect something smoky; with a little imagination, I can conjure up the leather in my mind.>Tom Ford Ombre Leather EDP 18I had high expectations for this one. Total disappointment. It's a watered-down Tascan Leather with a sweet note that overpowers the leather accord. It's not at all a refined version of Tascan Leather.Where are the floral nuances? It improves slightly in the dry-down, but like Tascan Leather, I detect a certain fecal note that I don't like.Overall, I'm disappointed with these two, but I must continue trying the decants; perhaps I'll change my mind. Thanks for reading my blog.P.S. 1: Both perfumes come in beautiful bottles.P.S. 2: Tomorrow I'm trying a new decant of Tascan Leather and possibly Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours.
>>18739823the frag is called>Tuscan Leathercheck out Rien or Gucci Guilty Absolute for something more interesting
>>18739823Classic leathers like Cuir de Russie and Knize Ten are closer to the perfume blends that tanners and glovemakers would have used to mask the noxious tanning chemicals. You wont get handbag leather or car seat leather from older frags like that. What would you say your perfect leather fragrance would be like?
I wanna smell like the mosquito from Jurassic Park. What do I gotta wear to do that.

how do people enjoy scents with heavy iso e, amber woods and such? you can't even smell them after five minutes

>>18739864>why do people like cilantro

>>18739868https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_mind
>>18739870Are you stupid? I didn't ask for a phenomenological explanation. I'll dumb it down for you:>since these aromachemicals make you go noseblind almost immediately, how do the people who wear them manage to notice their own fragrance?
>>18739865Oh that was not the bottle I was expecting, now I'm losing my mind because I can't find that bottle when I search for it>Grey smelled like mildewUnfortunate, is this because of the fragrance itself or because of how it reacts to your skin chemistry
>>18739871sorry let me rephrase that>how do people enjoy cilantro
>>18739874Are you retarded or baiting? Whatever
>>18739871Anon has actually dumbed it down a lot for you. >>18739873It’s unpleasant in the air, moreso on skin. Most people enjoy it, so don’t let me deter you. It’s only $20 and you can always get a decant.
>>18739879This seems to be a case of "how did you feel if you didn't have breakfast in the morning", or maybe it's just poor reading comprehension I'm not sureAre you able to distinguish the phenomenological experience of smelling a fragrance from the purely sensory experience of whether or not you smell something (going anosmic)?
>>18739880yes
>>18739882Good for you
>>18739880>>18739880It’s merely genetic differences. We all perceive and remember fragrances differently. Memory can be a huge reason for whether or not we perceive certain notes and how they interact with each other (etc. why some might smell caramel, and another burnt tires). Certain synthetic molecules might trigger different perceptions based on how they bind to your unique receptors. You might just anosmic to amber or wood notes. If you perceive a honey warmth or just something slightly earthy, you’re still smelling the amber and woods, but sometimes they change in a way that might be difficult to detect. It’s all highly subjective. If I’m anosmic to a fragrance, I might only perceive notes, some might be faint in the background but not in a way that registers as a perfume, or I straight up don’t sense I’m smelling anything at all.
>>18739884Ok, I thought some aromachemicals almost always made the wearers go anosmic and were only detectable by the people around so that makes more sense.I think I have a pretty wide range of molecules that I go noseblind to, pretty much any of the linear, one dimensional aromachemicals they use for longevity and sillage (amberwoods and iso e most notably) but I don't go noseblind as easily to more complex accords like spices, leather, amber (the resinous kind, not ambrocenide), gourmands and so on. Which kinda sucks in the summer. I'm guessing there's no way to change this?
>>18739888Generally, no. It’s genetically determined. Sometimes it’s just how a brand chooses to formulate certain molecules together, and you might perceive a note in one fragrance and not another by someone else OR the fact there can be multiple synthetic molecules for a single note, and you might only go nose blind to one of them.
>>18739888ntaConsider watching the first 7 minutes of this videohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0waFjEQmbuITLDW; Like the other anon said, sometimes you are just genetically predisposed to not smelling certain aromachemicals the same way others do. ie; cilantro
Someone should make a cilantro fougere that smells extremely soapy (I know DS and Durga makes a Coriander but idk if it matches this concept)
>>18739823>the perfect leather fragrance beginsthat's antaeus. now you can rest, anon
Finally got the Collection Noire 5ml discovery set from Serge Lutens & goddamn, you guys weren't lying. L'orphaline & Ambre Sultan are genuinely amazing scents. The other two are great as well (Nuit de Cellophane in particular) just not something I'd wear.I'll have to take out a loan to buy a full bottle of either, but I do really want to.

Has anyone here just tossed a frag away? I figure I can't be alone here in doing this. Albeit, I've only done it twice. Both times the frags were terrible, couldn't be resold/not worth trying to, and I wanted the space back.
>>18739976>just tossed a frag awayNo, I've always just given frags I don't like or wear to friends/coworkers. If the money isn't to my investment I'd rather it goes to others than in the trash, that's crazy.
>>18739888My sense of smell is not that sharp, I don't often smell perfumes wafting around out in the world but I can smell all the common high molecular weight aromachemicals and I never go noseblind when I'm wearing them. Noseblindness is not some objective fact of perfume that happens to everyone. Basically it's genetic and everyone is different in that regard
>>18739915>DHI>carrots????????????????????????what? did they change the formula or something? it's the most obviously wood+iris frag I own.
>>18739971What happens if I don't like it, what do you do with bottles you don't use?I blind bought some cheap Zara frags and don't use a few of them they're just collecting dust
>>18739976my arab dupes were tossed in the trash. didn't feel like having trash taking up space.
>>18739986Toss it, give it to a friend, let it collect dust. Its not that big a deal. I'm sure you've spent more on meals you didnt like.
>>18739986>they're just collecting dustThat's why it's important not to waste money on cheap trash. If it has value you can always sell it or gift it but if it's cheap it's worthless and doesn't make a good gift. I don't know if it's my poverty brain but I don't like to bring anything into my home to waste space. My space is at a premium so everything I have is something that brings me joy and satisfaction.

SOTD : Mefisto GentiluomoClean, elegant, a little more powdery than I would have liked. Good longevity for a fresh non-offensive summer scent. Bottle design is a winner for me. Overall a pleasant blind buy, I think if it had been marginally less powdery I would use it as a signature for summer.
>>18739976What frags did you toss
>>18739976I remember tossed a couple of Aventus clones away after my mom said she hated the smell
>>18740009One was an Arab dupe, another was a really shitty frag I got years ago that was like being sprayed with mosquito repellant.
>>18739998Cheap doesn't mean bad though, but it feels like your post is implying that it is on the basis that you can't pawn it off later. One of my favorite frags is like $20 dollars.

>>18739843Byzantine Amber
>>18739850Only counting full bottles here (30mls+). Would be too many to list if 5ml decants, 8mls, 10mls, etc, counted.
>>18739860Clearly a psyop m8
>>18739871Everyone's physiology, chemistry and overall senses (further influenced by genetics, environment, etc) differ vastly when it comes to subjective perception of said aromachemicals.
>>18740097Thoughts on Megamare, Eden Roc and Byzantine Amber?
>>18739976I tossed 3 out of 4 Cubas into the bin, they were 3 euros a pop. But I would be stuck with a lot of frags if I didn't abuse return policy, so returned close to 20 to different shops, have 7 sitting in a box and out of my collection I wouldn't miss another 10 at least. But they are too expensive to just throw out while it's hard to find a buyer that would purchase a slightly used frag and also didn't want to harvest my organs or suck them at the same time.
>>18740073No, I have mommy issues.
>>18740049It has nothing to do with good or bad, it's all about fluidity or how you can get rid of it. A cheap fragrance you don't like can only waste space or go in the trash. An expensive fragrance can be sold and also makes a nice gift.
>>18739976Yes and no, like the other anons I just give them to people that might enjoy them more than I do. Interestingly enough, like the others reported it's always arab dupes being thrown away....>>18740012Same, I gave my CdN Intense Man away after using it once, I don't understand how people can hype this so much, that rotting lemon note in the opening was not worth waiting for it to dry into a decent frag. Still got a compliment though, so the indians that promote it for dudes with no gf are somewhat right.
>>18740049Which frag
>SOTD: Maison Alhambra MegaraMegamare dupe. Close enough, bought a 10ml decant just to wear while im staying in a warm climate for a short time. The longevity is great. They added a bit of white florals in the drydown which gives it a soapy vibe but it’s not too distracting. Speaking about marine frags, there’s something about Acqua di Gio line that disgusts me. It smells like a rotten fruit. I can smell it the most in Profumo flanker. I think this is the calone molecule, right?
>>18740194yeah, probably it is
>>18739976I fished D&G Pour Homme out of the trash because I felt bad and gave it to my mom to gift to anybody she knew. It was a cheap sweet smelling tobacco and the cap was leaking.
>>18739843>>18740096I second this
>>18740202There are many good ambers, why this one in particular
>>18740203there is something dirty and rotten, old and dusty about it, that fits the picture.
>>18740192This one. It was $18 when I bought it. It genuinely is startlingly good. I have posted about it a few times.
>>18740205>>18740203>>18740137Exactly what the other anon said. Byzantine Amber is raw and primeval smelling. You will 100% feel like a mosquito trapped in a bubble of golden amber. It's balsamic and pungent, and very nearly almost offensive, and yet so addictive. Recommend you give it a crack.>>18740137>MegamareSampled the majority of the Orto Parisi lineup and it was the one that just kept me coming back. Enveloping freshness, and even gives a "green" take on a marine frag (likely the seaweed & bergamot zest coming thru). I can smell it on my work jacket for an entire week. Only other Parisi I'd buy a full bottle of is likely Viride which is also excellent>Eden-RocRidiculously clean smelling. Refreshing in the heat, and not that comparable to other summer scents you'd find. Subtle saltiness/minerality, subtly resinous and rounded off with that jasmine. Works just as well on a man or woman. Often slept on, but it's a certain Demachy banger.

I ordered 30 samples 2 months ago and now I ordered another 40 samples... I could have bought bottles of some of the ones I liked most but no I decided to buy even more samples... how do I stop
>>18740274Realize that the only way you can really commit to a full bottle is by blind buying it. Every time I get samples, I NEVER get a full bottle of anything I've sampled because I always tell myself "yeah it's nice, but it's not worth paying full price for".Blind buying will activate the psychological mechanism that will make you like the fragrance much more than if you had sampled it beforehand. My only blind buy I currently regret is Phtaloblue and that's only because I literally cannot smell it at all.
i'm actually surprised by how axe has been stepping up their /frag/ game these past few years, black vanilla is really good if you're looking for something affordable that you can pick from your grocery store and impress the ladies with (probably).
>>18740274>how do I stopYou don't. Samplefags are addict-brained and have no impulse control. Multiple times I have tried to warn people here against wasting money on samples. A sample is free, if you pay for it it defeats the purpose. Samples used to be free.
>>18740307partly I agree - why would I buy samples of things I could spray in the nearest mall for free...good luck getting free samples of [insert obscure niche frag from bumfuck nowhereistan], tho.>sotd: Paris-Edimbourgclosest place I could have sampled it was 250kms away, in another country. I finally bought it in the first duty-free where it was on sale.
>>18740314Every single samplefag woe boils down to the same thing "oh no I have too many choices." The human brain hasn't caught up to the world where everything is at your fingertips. If you don't have impulse control you don't stand a chance.
>>18740286Spraying my armpits vanilla caramel flavor for my gay bottom friend to lick
>>18740326>everything is at your fingertipsThat's not how the modern world works though there are no real choices in real life for poor/middle class people we are just slaves with limited choices.
>>18740342I have been to r/desifragranceaddicts and some of the posts there are people spending literal less than the cheapest fragrances ever posted here and they get to sample and buy bottles of cheap stuff that they can enjoy. Nobody in a western country is that bad off. If you can't afford any perfume you want, you're not middle class. I get us working poors might not be able to get everything but you can build a respectable collection.
Should my next blind buy be>Tauer Incense Extreme>Zoologist Squid>ELDO Hermann>Francesca Bianchi Sex and the Sea>Matiere Premiere Crystal Saffron>some Amouage (I have a bunch of them I want to try)depending on the price I'll buy it either in august or in a couple months so seasonality doesn't matter
>>18740314>why would I buy samples of things I could spray in the nearest mall for free...My philosophy to answer this question is that if it's a simple frag with a basic profile, you can try it at a store and pretty much get the gist of it, but for some you actually want to get a sense of wearing that frag for a day or two with your clothes and feeling if it works for you. A small price is fair to pay but once you buy 100s of samples it just becomes an addiction I guess>SOTD Yatagan
How do I store/organize bottles and samples in a visually appealing way?
The Quest for the Leather Fragrance. Vol. IIToday I wore Ombre Leather, and my initial impressions stand by. I received a compliment, but I don't care. It's much worse than Tuscan Leather, a watered-down version with a sweet note. Then I tried two new decants:>Tom Ford Tuscan LeatherI think it's much better than OL. Smoky nuances that aren't present in OL. The fruity raspberry note blends masterfully with the leather. It has a touch of sweat; perhaps it contains cumin, it's subtle, but I don't like that detail. A good impression of this one, but I wouldn't buy it. The bottle is beautiful.>Naomi Goodsir Cuir VeloursA honey opening, think of the honey in Givenchy Gentleman 1974. Herbal and floral nuances, and then a smoky note comes in. I don't really smell the leather here; it's there, but it's not the main focus. Disappointing. Thanks for reading my blog.P.S. I'm getting a fecal note in TL and OL that reminds me a bit of manure.
>>18739799Anyone here with a bottle or sample of Profumum Patchouly that can comment on it? I love a nice masculine, earthy patchouli that lasts forever. TF Patchouli Absolu is my favorite but I can't find it anymore unless I pay an arm and leg for a used bottle, and Jovoy Psychedelique leans a little too feminine for my nose despite everyone saying it's unisex. It finally showed up near my area but the place doesn't have it for sample, might actually pull the trigger cause I'd have to pay up to my eyeballs in customs if I buy it directly from the Profumum website.
>>18739850The only thing that's changed is my DHI ran out and Crivelli Iris Malikhan took its place, everything's still there and has some juice but I'm too lazy to bring em out
>>18740409What do you think of Antaeus?
>>18740411It's great, one of my first /frag/ purchases ever. Although I wear it sparingly nowadays because it's cloying in anything above 20C and it's too serious and formal a scent for me to wear day to day outside of dates and special evening occasions.
>>18740409wew I like your collectionThoughts on Santal and The Noir?>CrivelliI've only tried the Ouds (Cadenza and Stallion are okay, Maracuja sucks ass) and the bischbombs extraits in the discovery set. All were screechy and one-dimensional.Do they have some actual good frags?
>>18740369Hermann is pretty good and not too expensive. very strong performance too
>>18740384I went to a Nordstrom's and the nice lady at the perfume counter made me 3 small samples because I asked politely like a good boy, now I can try them on for a day or two
>>18740409looks goodthough I don't get how anyone wants to wear you or someone like you, it literally just smells like mint and nothing else to me
>>18740414When I tried it at the mall, it smelled like old soap; now I think I should give it another chance. I'm worried the animalic notes might be too strong.By the way, I miss Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT; I should buy another bottle. It's a lovely cologne.
>>18740415>SantalI personally like it as a daily driver because it's versatile for most of the year and easygoing and when people recognize it and call it out I can bring up the pickle meme and we can have a laugh as an icebreaker>The NoirMy favorite Le Labo ever. It's the one scent from their lineup that I'd say is worth th LL price tag for how distinct it is. BUT I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy. It has different facets to it and some notes you might not be into or vibe well on you once it's on your skin.>CrivelliI can't really speak to their other scents because I got mine as a gift from a friend, I know they have a bunch of overpriced ones but Iris Malikhan really grew on me even though it's way different from DHI once you get past the opening. The iris fades in the background after an hour and it turns to a more herbal/earthy/leather combo past the opening. A lot more masculine than the fragrantica page would suggest, to my nose at least.

>>18740488I live by the beach and I’m trying to drag that vibe with me but without the sunscreen
>>18740487kouros has always had a sandy note to me, but I havent heard anyone else mention it. Maybe its the oakmoss and aldehydes.
>>18740493Hmm, I mean silica itself doesn't really have a smell. Though sand at the beach contains a lot of other trace minerals and of course salt. So you're likely looking for a frag with the main comp being mineralic and possibly a bit salty. Problem is all the frags I can think of with those notes either have aquatic notes mixed in, or citruses, herbs, etc.For what it's worth Eden-Roc does remind me of the beach, the salt, the sand, the trees all on the wind.Acqua di Sale is also a good pick, but definitely more marine smelling, and herbal
>>18740464I like Chypre Palatin, but I could never wear it here. I may get another bottle from them once I sit on all the samples they gave me some more. They threw in an ass load of extras when I bought Blue Satin, probably because I complained without complaining when I got my bottle of Invasion Barbare (somehow one of the sample bottles they sent had a piece of Styrofoam in it, and I emailed them about to alert them). They threw in like eight additional samples at random with my second order a couple of months later. I like their stuff, and the extras they add with their bottles truly subsidizes the costs a lot. >>18740465Yeah, USD. Not bell jar, unfortunately but I can't find a soul willing to sell a bell jar version for less than $500. Not worth it. I even found a guy a week or two back trying to hock his empty bell jar of de Profundis for like $200 IIRC. Ridiculous.
Almost Human discovery kit arrived. Will report back.
>>18740500>I like Chypre Palatin, but I could never wear it here.Surprisingly I find myself wearing it in a lot of occasions even in the heat of summer. It's an opulent scent but not a formal one, at least not in the way I find Antaeus to be formal, if that makes any sense. The vibe is like a fruitier Grand Soir and I wore that one a lot when I had a bottle of that awhile back>They threw in like eight additional samples at randomI am jelly. I only got one (because I bought mine in a small boutique in Vancouver)
>>18739850Nice collection so far, bottom anon. Bit sad to see so many dupes though. You need to get yourself a sugar daddy like yesterday.
>>18740501Really quick initial notes. Silent Rain and Desert Hope are both vegetative. I can barely smell the rose that's supposed to be in Desert Hope, it's more like the stems from one. Silent Rain is green, but refreshing, the goal of trying to capture the scent of a space after a rain shower is pretty on the mark here. Provided you're talking about a village, or a nice home. Not the city. Think soil, gardens, wet earth. There is something else in that's... creamy I can't put my finger on. It's intriguing but I don't think I'd buy a bottle because who truly wants to smell like they just stepped in from the rain. Desert Hope is a skip. It's boring. Dear Future is sexy. It would smell nice on men and women. It's extremely attractive. They won't give up what ingredients are in, it but I could easily find myself dragging my tongue across the skin of whoever had this on. This is genuinely amazing. A pure date night frag if there ever was one, or something you'd wear to get the attention of someone special. I am absolutely buying at least a half of a bottle of this if I can. Burning Bridges disappointed me. It starts out very warm and spicy. Think Spice Bomb Extreme but less synthetic. Unfortunately that goes away rather quickly, because it meshed quite nice with the smoky wood they have going on. It dries down really fast into burnt wood. Skip it. If you really want something like that, Pineward exists as a designer. Ritual Code is super interesting as well. Imagine a Series 3 frag, but the goal was to capture an indigenous ritual. It's smoky, but not woody. It's warm, and there is enough resin to stand out. You can grab onto the ash, which compliments in the same way that incense does to those sorts of frags I just mentioned. It's primal, but not animalistic. Think dudes high on some mystery concoction wailing and dancing around a fire before embarking on a vision quest. I know, purple prose-y, but it's why I think of Series 3.
>>18740510Unless you got a super good discount, you should always buy direct from them. They throw in a discovery kit, and three smaller samples each time you order a bottle directly from them. You can even double up. I ordered Barbare and then two 11ml samples of Barbare to go along with it (and they give you five). They are functionally just handing away almost whole bottles with each of your purchases from them in samples.
>>18740484Obviously you agree with your most recent ancestors if you live in the land they created. If you don't you can leave or mount your own revolt. I legitimately don't know what stupid point you are even trying to make.
>>18740518As much as I'd love to support them directly I probably would have gotten raped by duties getting my order shipped to leafland. I didn't want to roll the dice at the time.
>>18740523Fair. Just keep what I said in mind. You get 63ml in samples, IIRC. Since the prices are likely the same at the stockist, you're sort of raping yourself by not taking advantage of that at least once, especially since it can serve as a partial refill on the frags you have as we both know they're 75ml bottles.
>>18740460I have my finger on the trigger of TdH IV, I sampled it and liked it, but not sure if I want to buy a full bottle as I own the EdT.
>wore a fragrance that gave me headaches again after 5+ months of not wearing it>no headachesim evolving
>>18740516I mostly blind buy and keep what I enjoy, sell the rest. Not in a place in my life I can splurge on niche or designer. I’ve got a few on my wishlist like ELDO’s Hermann & Rien and PDMs Delina La Rosee. I adored the samples. Truthfully I have enough fragrance for a lifetime as-is, so I’m in no hurry.
>>18740556have you tried the parfum? That makes more sense to me as a second TDH if you're going to have more than just the EDT.
>Woods>Fresh spice>powdery texture>old man patchoulliThis smells like you just found grandpa's old wool coat in the attic. I don't know why anyone would want to smell like this. absolute pass.
>>18740086They can be deported. I want Indians to fuck off from this board.
>>18739850yup, this mans endocrine system is mutated
>>18740214>>18740203Thanks for the rec anons, I'll be adding it to the decant list.
>>18740584Tell me anon, which is heavier, 5lbs of bricks or 5lbs of feathers?
>>18740574It's crazy to me how much Dior charges for their frags despite how many people who aren't normies that just buy the Dior name find them mid or not worth even a fraction of the price they are pegged at.
Best Iris frag for men?
>>18740474>it's not like they need to be used up by a certain timeThat being said, I know a reputable online store that sells Prada and Lancome frags on a discount because they're close to their expiration date. Is this just a free 20% off that I should take?
Few things to give away, and a couple of things to come in still, and I'll be done. It's more or less completely unorganized because I needed to take everything out at one point, and then added a few things, and just gave up.
>>18740610>Few things to give awayall those pde im assuming
QUICK. IF YOU SEE A FRAG YOU OWN IN THIS IMAGE. THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE
>>18740615Post collection.
>>18740617i own two of each
>>18740617They're calling it the brownest collection of all time.
>>18740617holy shit what a retarded video. nobody is fucking whispering to me at any perfume boutique
>>18740610>all the bottles are barely usedwhy keep buying them?
>>18740628Buy samples/kits. Test the samples. I like sample. I buy bottle. Repeat. I'm basically at the end of collecting at this point anyway. I have maybe four more frags to add, and that's it. I could see myself adding a few more over the next few years beyond that, but that's it. As for your observation, you have your own answer. I just rotate through a different frag each day. Most of these don't require me to spray 10 times, or respray during the day, it's why I bought them. I put longevity on par with how good it smells. It could smell great, but if the longevity is bad, I'll avoid it. There is only one exception to this that I own which wasn't a blind buy.
>>18740632Oud Wood? I heard that one smelled really good but didn't perform that well.I'm in my sampling phase right now and probably will end up like you...
I just don't want to smell disgusting on the bus commute back home. Can I just spray myself in this? inb4 antiperspirant - it's the head sweat
>>18740574I remember the awful smell of this frag
>>18740610>JPGWhat a gay collection
>>18740617>people still wear Aventus
>>18740617>30 minutes ASMR video with Indian accentI don't want to live in this world anymore
>>18740469i never left>>18740475awooooga>>18740610i like that JPG bottle desuwhat does it smell like?(on a related note the big TF bottles still look horrendous)>>18740617i'm good
>>18740566Out of what you own now, which ones are your favorites?
>SOTD: Ormonde Jayne Levantwould be an okay citrus+white flower frag for 80-100 (euro)bucks, def not worth its asking price of almost 200
>>18740605Depends on what facet of iris you want.I like L'attesa, sparkling, almost heady opening and super creamy, slightly flowery orris drydown.DHI is worth a try if you want something softer and a bit more aromatic, especially in the opening.Iris Pallida is worth a try if you want the most powerful mix of powdery iris and creamy orris and nothing else.Iris Malikhan is probably worth a try, but I haven't tried it so I can't be sure.
