SOTD: Molton Brown Dark Leather
Ok, I’m digging this type of leather. At first TF Tuscan Leather and Fahrenheit makes me gag for some reason. There’s something so sharp in it, like straight up sniffing a paint sealant.

I haven’t smelled Ombre Leather yet. It’s my dream fragrance cus I like the bottle but I don’t wanna ruin it for myself.

Sweet for a leather, but not sugar. Maybe honey or molasses. They claim rum is in it. Beyond that it's smokey (they claim gunpowder but as someone who shoots weekly: this is not gunpowder), and leathery. They mix well together. It also smells a bit formal, mature but not old. I would like a 10ml of this because it's not an everyday wear. Definitely something you wear at night, very appealing. Moderate projection, and I suspect it'll last at least as long as a date, or some other night event.

Dirty, musky, animalic but an extremely strong old wood that isn't quite completely dried out. Feels like firewood. Makes perfect sense with what the ingredients are. Civet, musk, dark wood etc. Not my thing, but I normally frown at this sort of frag. If you like dirty musky scents, perhaps get a sample and see if this is for you. Strong projection, feels like it'd stick around all day.

Openly very bright, but still dries down into something clean, papery, lightly floral, a mild incense under there. Interestingly, it does smell a bit like rain, but not a soaking earthy one. I like this sort of twist on the attempt of emulating a shower of rain compared to Silent Rain from Almost Human that does the same thing. Silent Rain is more, but it is more interesting than something I'd wear. This? I'd wear, but I do need to test how long it lasts since there doesn't feel like anything in it would hang around for more than two or three hours. I am similarly concerned about weak projection.

A spicy, ambery, rose, dries down and keeps those notes but becomes a bit woody and savory, a little dirty. No idea what's in it. Beaufort's ingredient list seems to indicate there's citronele in it, but I got nothing from that.

the Parfum or the Intense?
I have a bottle of the old Parfum. it's the heaviest and darkest of the line by far with the most leather. it also has more going on overall, with an evolution from smoky leather and iris to more rose to sandalwoody musky base

so I guess it pleases a lot of perfume fans who want the rich, heavy and opulent stuff and they want it to perform very well. it's the strongest version of a line of perfumes that was already considered amazing

why did they change it? either it didn't sell well enough or there was some issue sourcing ingredients or something, idk. the new version is a totally new fragrance and I'm not familiar with it

as for dior homme intense, it hasn't been changed in this way. fragrantica is just dumb sometimes and classified a bottle change as another change in formula

Out of a few samples, probably Carlisle or Herod, some were slops but mostly just ok and not worth the price tag. And those two I wouldn't wear because I don't like the profile yet they aren't too bad. Bottles look generic as well.

Got some new samples: Megamare, Black Afgano, I see what they wanted and got there but not for me. Bois Imperial is nice though I don't smell any wood, Sospiro Vibrato very good, combined the fresh citrus of VPH with some greenery. Price tag is a bit high tho like with most of these.

Vintage Kouros on ebay is overpriced. It happens, sellers get carried away with the listed prices and ebay removes certain sold listings inflating the price. If you are willing to put in the work you can save a search for "Kouros" and maybe you'll be lucky and snatch up a mislabeled vintage listing. I got my vintage Kouros at goodwill but they are rare there so it's not the most reliable method. I think vintage Kouros is worth it, one of my favorites. Surprisingly people like it and compliment it. I get why people call it pissy but I get mostly a clean powdery musky and sharp florals. The performance is stellar. I'm wearing it to bed in honor of this post and I say it's worth the effort. It's a very unique and skillful composition.

The more stuff I add the more these categories blur: Wazamba might as well be between Arso and Mystic Incense at the bottom of the middle group, and Esprit du Tigre doesn't really feature incense but the camphor kick gives it a similar cooling, resinous/balsamic quality, so I added it as a bonus.

I don't hate Kurkdjian, he made cool stuff early on like Armani Mania and Miracle Homme. He has explicitly stated he's trying to democratize and make fragrances for everyone. He makes great notes but he intentionally doesn't do complexity or challenging fragrances. He was beloved until they made him take over for Demachy who built modern Dior. It's like making Warhol take over for Monet. Demachy got a lot of hate too especially when everyone turned on him after Sauvage became popular. I think Kurkdjian can make good stuff but Demachy is my favorite perfumer.

Got three bottles delivered this week. I know that I'm late to the party by saying it but I got a bottle of Terre D'Hermes this week and all I can say is...wow. Really incredible scent and I'm glad to have it in my collection. The other two I got this week were Attaquer le Soleil by ELDO and a restock of Versace Pour Homme.

Some of them are clearly just trend chasing (Althair), but others have been around a long ass time and you know that. Even Tabac Vanille is almost two decades old now, and TF has been a known quantity for as long. You may not like these fragrances, but you know who does like them? Women. Try this instead if you can get a sample somehow. Their discovery kit was very expensive for five frags, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you had cash to toss around (I reviewed it in the previous thread). I found two of the frags in there quite boring, one of them I could see why it was the most popular but not for me, and two others were veerrryyy interesting. Specifically this one. (I will keep talking about this frag, I know the regulars have seen me talking this shit up, and so expect it.)

This is what GITS is trying to do. It can be polarizing (read a few of the reviews), which means it isn't blind buy safe, and it's quite expensive. However, it is... if you get, you get it. To me, it's incredible. The only flaw is that it can open with a rather unpleasant plastic note which does drop off in a couple of minutes. Once it settles though, it becomes pure sexo.
