Post and discuss your watches and the watches you intend to buy.
Hinting to the wife that I want one of these for my birthday.

For sure. But that can't be my first Rolex. That's for when you already have five serious ones.
Rolex seems kind of low end for me but I want to get a few just because it's such a tremendous brand. I always found it to be such an obvious choice so I avoided them. But now I realize Rolex is the obvious choice for a reason.

I love the coke Steinhairt but they're a little to daring in terms of copyright. Are there any watches with the same vibe but not this homagey? I've seen some vintage coke Rolexes, but they don't hit the same because of the radically different bezel font and spacing. Not that I was gonna buy a Rolex anyway....

If you like it and the price is fair, buy it.

If you’re worried about service or parts, there’s no need. Rolex will gladly service the watch and return it good as new. If you have a local watchmaker, they can service a Rolex as well. Their movements are extremely simple and robust.

I don't like Seiko Presages, they just seem cheap for what should be a more premium price point. Hardlex (glass) on a watch costing over $200 is unacceptable when everyone else has sapphire, the movements are subpar and the textured dials are hit or miss.

Seiko are better when they're either very cheap and unapologetic about it or expensive. In that $500-1000 price point you can do better.

Neo-Nazis (the actual kind not the “youre a Nazi if you want sensible immigration kind”) love Joe Biden for his stances on Azov battalion and Iran/ Israel. Guys like video related and Nick Fuentes consider Trump “Jew controlled.”

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4XSmB6so5Xo&pp=ygURQmxvb2QgdHJpYmUgQmlkZW7SBwkJEwwBhyohjO8%3D&ra=m

That Biden watch is to signal how much of a shithead you are.

> You fucking chuds and your backwards politics. We don't need it in here.

I don’t want to keep this conversation going but I will say that “Boneface” the NeoNazi who joined Azov from the states claims that “Kikes get the rope” gore video and the Russian man being crucified were real war crimes he witnessed Azov commiting when he joined then in 2015. Biden/ Obama being sponsors of Nazism and Islamic terrorism is real.

https://www.rt.com/news/566826-western-neo-nazi-exposes-reality/amp/

> The testimony of McLellan confirms those videos are very real. He in fact features in the crucifixion footage, and took photos of Tornado fighters posing with the corpses of the hanged couple. Though the pair were not in fact Jewish, and their ritualistic murder was too extreme even for his violent tastes – “I wouldn’t have supported an action like that,” he says.

>On the subject of Tornado, McLellan refers to the fascist paramilitary battalion as “by far the most horrifying thing I've ever seen or dealt with in my life.”

Calling Trump supporters “backwards chud Nazis” for ICE and immigration reform is a cast accusations in a mirror tactic when the democrats are party to war crimes against civilians in Donetsk and Iran and all over the world.
>>
>>18760779
I think those have sapphire.
>>
>>18760814
Being a two face Biden shill you don’t have the balls to do it but I suggest you read all the articles in this substack and then get back to me.

https://azovlobby.substack.com/
>>
>>18760820
The Russian man being crucified is an especially fortunate one for people like you, seeing we have to take it on your good word that it's an actual Russian man, it's actual Azov and it actually happened where it's claimed. Not a single thing whatsoever is identifiable there. Again, I completely understand you points, but they're ran through and it's one of those "I switched Western MSM for Russian MSM and i'm insightful now somehow" pipeline.
>>18760824
I don't care about Biden, I've been watching Azov (and the fake news around them) up until its death in Mariupol. I bet you think today's Azov is somehow the same thing to which teh substack applies huh? Including the dozens of unproven videos.

>>
>>18760745
i'm assuming this is your first watch, yeah ?
if your heart's set on it, there quite a few presage models that are very attractive with reliable movements: i'm pretty sure the US price will be affected by tariffs so you should check out what they sell for on some of the JDM sites to get an idea of what Seiko themselves think their products are worth

again, if this is your first watch, you should avoid gold effect as it will likely take a few bumps as you're getting used to having something dangling on your wrist and stainless steel is a lot easier to buff out than replating
again though, buy what would make you happy and if you want the rose-gold piece in your related pic, don't let any retread on 4chan tell you you're wrong

I translated his text. It reads like a Russian glow nigger propaganda meant for westerners to read..

By breaking away, this state exposes itself to conquest and plunder by foreigners. Little Russia and Great Russia are bound together by faith, kinship, historical destiny, geography, economy, culture, and politics. The foreign powers orchestrating this dismemberment must realize that, in doing so, they are declaring a centuries-long struggle against all of Russia. Such a partition would preclude peace and economic prosperity in the East; Russia would be transformed into a source of civil and international conflicts for ages to come. The power responsible for the dismemberment would become the most hated enemy of national Russia. "In the struggle against it, every alliance and every possible means will be brought into play... A national Russia seeks no one's destruction, yet it will know how to respond in due time to any attempt at dismemberment and will fight to the end. It is in the interest of any power to have Russia as a friend rather than an enemy. History has not yet spoken its final word."

Ivan Alexandrovich Ilyin. "Fundamentals of the Struggle for a National Russia." 1938.
>>
>>18760929
It’s from Ivan Ilyin’s writing on “Ukraine nationalism” in 1930s. Hint: Ukraine nationalism at that time meant OUN-B and Fascits and all that garbage liberals love to pretend they don’t support.

New grail watch: Carrera seafarer, because it has a complication that tracks high and low tide. I kayak around Manhattan and the tides here determine the direction that the rivers flow so it's actually highly useful information.

I'm looking for cheaper watches with tide information but they're really rare.
>>
>>18761032
How do you normally dress? This is a dressy watch that's meant to be worn with a suit. If you wore it with regular street clothes you'd look really autistic.

I would suggest looking at the first generation Omega aqua terra from the mid 2000s. 36mm case size. That's going to read as sophisticated and classy but pairs as well with normal clothes as with business attire. On the used market they're like 2 or 3 grand.

Is the oysterflex even recommended or is going for a bracelet always the best move in the rolex lineup?
>>
>>18761235
The Oysterflex is excellent as far as rubber straps go, but if there’s an option for a bracelet, always go for that. Bracelets last for decades. Rubber straps will last for years but replacing them is expensive and requires Rolex to keep producing them.
>>
>>18761235
Oysterflex will never be better than a bracelet but on bigger precious metal watches it makes a lot of sense to make them lighter. It's also cheaper than the bracelet.

My question is why doesn't rolex offer oysterflex on every watch? Rubber on the tool watches makes all the sense in the world.
>>
>>18761219
Maybe citizen if you just want a quartz watch to tell the time and look passable to normies, seiko if you want a mechanical dive watch with some history that people recognize and makes you feel something because you enjoy watches.

Wrong. Citizen will give you sapphire on watches below $600 where Seiko won't. Unless it's quartz. Citizen has a longer warranty.

"Soulless shitters" is a subjective opinion of yours.
I have 3 Citizens and 3 Seikos. I still like Seiko, I just think they're overpriced for what you get. Especially compared to Citizen. 2 of the 3 Citizens have sapphire and none of the Seikos do.

I don't like that either, but it isn't the same. If you wear dive watch with a suit you look casual, sporty, or at the worst sloppy. If you wear a gold formal watch with casual clothing, you look pretentious or autistic.

It's the difference between wearing sneakers with a suit, and wearing shiny black oxfords with shorts and a t-shirt. The former is sloppy but ubiquitous. The latter is uncommon and verging on antisocial.
>>
>ITT: people who don't know what "ubiquitous" means.

The problem with "specs" is that they don't tell the whole story. Seiko costs a tiny bit more for the same specs because it has better finishing and design. This is something you can't easily tell by looking at watches online, you have to look at them in the store.

For example, the Prospex has a subtle ridges detail on the bezel, and the dial has a dished design with thicker applied indices that makes the watch look more interesting and dynamic. It's something that looks better when you look up close than it does in the picture.

The citizen BN0261 has a flat dial, thin indices, and a smooth bezel. It looks worse up close than it does in the picture.

There are plenty of people voicing the same complaint about thickness and Omega's market share has dropped lately. This could of course be due to many factors but there are reasons why a company would ignore an obvious design fault (politics, pig headedness, technical limitations)

>>
>>18761525
That’s true, but also in many ways irrelevant. The company only thinks in terms of sales, input versus output.
Could they have made an integrated chronograph movement that fit into a thin, 38mm case? Sure. But they calculated that extra cost would not have been recouped in extra sales.

Consider that the single most hated brand in the world is probably Rolex. The hate doesn’t bother them because their sales are extremely healthy.
If we want Onega to start making thinner models, then we need to stop buying the thick ones. Complaining on social media is irrelevant.
>>
>>18761424
They apparently don't because they're years late to the trend of watches returning to smaller sizes. Although they did relatively recently do smaller redesigns of some of their bigger watches like the planet ocean and there's been a rumor for a couple years now that they're doing a 37mm seamaster 300 to compete with the BB54. But they're so fuckin late and the constellation reissues don't give anyone hope for that.

For all I can tell the coaxial movements are the reason the watches are so thick. They all bulked up around the same time they devoted themselves to the coaxial faith and I don't understand why you'd knowingly and intentionally make watches thicker than they'd need to be if you had the choice. The watch size queens like diameter, not thickness.

While I actually do like some of the affordable mechanicals, my inner autist wants to buy something that is "worth" servicing.

For example, I have a beautiful San Martin, it cost me only €260.
So once it's service time, not only would it be cheaper to just swap in a whole new movement, but it might actualy be financially reasonable to just buy a whole new San Martin.

I do understand that I could just service the cheap watch anyway and keep it running for years, but something about the eqation is bothering me. Maybe I need to let go any enjoy, I don't fucking know.

Every company only thinks in terms of sales. Yet some companies succeed and others fail. Just the fact that the decisions are being made by a profit-oriented company doesn't make them entirely beyond critique.

Longines, like Citizen, is made for internet shoppers and spec sheet comparers. The watches have boring design, bad finishing, and look bad in real life. They give you the best "value" of specs per dollar by cutting every subjective or intangible corner that they can find.

Watches are an emotional purchase. If you wanted specs per dollar nobody can beat Casio Lineage, Oceanus, or G-shock lines. But you don't buy a watch for the specs you buy a watch because it moves you.

You have such better taste than all that consumer shit. And you put your money where your mouth is and you buy that superior stuff, don't you?

You buy it because it "moves you".

>The watches have boring design, bad finishing, and look bad in real life.
this is simply not true though?

the finishing on the new master collection is excellent, the dials are interesting and much improved, and you won't see nicer looking display movements near this price. the movements are also technically excellent, reliable, low service costs with long power reserves. if anyone else gave you this watch for $2K you'd call it a steal.

having tried some of the recent longines releases i'll make two criticisms

they do wear large and i wish they'd issue a 37mm case

i'm not a fan of the longines steel bracelets, they feel less premium than the rolex and tudor rivals. although the microadjust is much better than anything omega has.

>cutting every subjective or intangible corner that they can find.
what does that even mean?

>Watches are an emotional purchase.
if you don't like longines as a brand that's fine but they've got as much history and visibility as anyone else

That would be a lot more assured if you didn't have a question mark as if you weren't sure you believed it yourself.

not an argument
>>
>>18761815
Yes it is. My argument has nothing to do with the watches you're discussing. I don't care. You don't put question marks at the end of STATEMENTS. Capisce?

did you buy it second hand?

Anon seems to be right... if you go to seiko's website and use the watch finder tool to filter out quartz watches and then sort by price, the first one with a sapphire crystal is the SRPK01 at $650.

Damn... it's impressive considering chinese manufactures offer sapphire crystals at a third of the price. Then again, I did notice that what this anon said >>18761399 is true. It's easy to see if you look at this other anon's pic >>18761294 for a few seconds.

There's a lot of details on the watchface and bezel on the Seiko that are much simpler on the Citizen or just aren't there. Doesn't mean Citizen is straight up shit tho. They're one of the world's top watchmakers for a reason, and I want to have atleast one ecodrive in my collection eventually.

Eco-drive will often come with sapphire over $200 or so. But yeah, the Seiko thing is true. They haven't yet gotten the international memo that we're doing sapphire stock now.
