It's polarizing. It's an extremely linear, smoky, quasi-incense that doesn't smell like Sauvage at all. Strong woods competing with a strong ambroxan-and-lavender.

It's not bad, but the people who dislike it DESPISE it. I've heard from a couple of women they think it smells feminine and would wear it themselves.

I don't know why they bothered calling this "Sauvage". They should have just put it in the Collection Prive.

I found it really quite good after sampling on skin a few times instore. Easily my favourite Kurkdjian release at Dior so far.

There's this rich juiciness in the citrus opening, like the smell of an overripe orange/bergamot with thick soft rind. Both initially, and even moreso in the dry down, the cedar and oud develop nicely. I've got a 100ml of Elixir as well -- in comparison the Extrait isn't as sweet/ambery, and a lot woodier and dense.

The Extrait oils seem to be at a higher concentration, so it doesn't project as much, but has a nice wafting sillage. Reminds me of the performance of Amouage Extraits. Like Interlude Man vs Interlude 53, or Purpose v Purpose 50

Niche can be very hit or miss just like indie movies, often because they'll value experimenting more than having something mass appealing and pleasing. You can find a lot of gems, but also a lot of really specific or situational scents that won't work for everyone.

Right, it's more about the cardamom and woody facets, with a somewhat medicinal "oud" note.
Given your above comment about patchouli, you might like M7 better than Oud Wood. Current formula (called M7 Oud Absolu) is fine.

Try to get good first. It should be that way with all hobbies. Move up in quality as skill increases. Buy samples and not blind buy full bottles, etc.

The opposite is true. You get the best you can afford and enjoy it. You end up paying more when you take the price staircase ($20+$50+$100+$200+$500+$1000) vs just spending the $1000 once. I've been in a lot of hobbies and it's always the same. Pay once and save money in the long term.

Samples work for some people but for me it's more expensive and a waste of money.

That's a huge let down. I have Une Fleur de Cassie, Cologne Bigarade, Dans Tes Bras, and Portrait of a Lady. They are all 10/10 but they are vintage versions and I wonder what current versions smell like. Of those, Light blue is probably the best bet, with Bleu being good at night. Layton is a good scent especially for male hookers, but your tropical climate it sounds like an awful match.

Check out the flankers for Light Blue and Acqua de Gio.

For evening wear in your climate, maybe one of the La Males or YSL Y or MYSLF lineup? Maybe also some Creeds that aren’t heavy

Pic related, my favorite marine summer frag currently. Sadly discontinued. Might look into an Acqua di Gio profundo or something as a replacement in the future, im starting to think they’re a better balanced and more sophisticated lineup vs light blue

Yeah I do but more importantly I got a few 2 ml samples with it since they give you some when you order a full bottle. I went to a wedding and to a bachelor's party before that. At the bachelor party they wanted to to go a strip club and I was like lmao nah and I went to a bar solo. So I met this girl and I was already super drunk and I was getting even more drunk. I literally don't remember what I said to her at all. All I remember is having one of the samples in my pocket, giving it to her, and pinching her cheek like she cute (she cute). I don't remember much after but I just got to my airbnb on my own and that was that. Next day she adds me on jewbook and starts talmbout our situation and whatnot how I impressed her and how hot and muscular and poetic I am, but more importantly how apparently the perfume was the seal to the deal.

Yeah I liked Light Blue a lot. I’ve tried Le Male EDT and wasn’t a huge fan, just felt a little too sunscreeny if that makes any sense. I’ve also tried Acqua di Gio EDP and Parfum. For some reason the EDP smelled a little too salty/briny which I wasn’t huge on but the Parfum didn’t. Do you feel the Light Blue Intense has big marine/salty notes? That’s the only thing holding me back from that one. I was looking into getting the female one since it seemed like it was going for a sweeter take without the saltiness.

Roses are girlier on paper but me personally I like roses and I'm too alpha not to spray myself with rose. You need to decide for yourself. No. I wash my clothes with soap nuts and I shower with an unscented urea soap bar. I also don't use deodorant. I trim my armpit hear so it doesn't get too musky if I end up sweating like a pig, but I don't fully shave it, because I LOVE women and I'm not a FAGGOT. Went to the beach this week and took Megamare with me. Spent a whole day on a boat going from island to island visiting a few beaches with a friend, and it really enhanced the mood without taking away from the natural smells of the ocean hitting on the rocks. I could still feel it in me after the first dive, not so much after the second one. The weird thing is that I still prefer a more "fabricated" marine smell, like AdG Profondo instead of Megamare's more realistic approach, but it's still an interesting frag.

Tabaco Touch and Fabulo Intense are almost spot on to what they’re duping. I haven’t tried the OG of Rose Prick, but it’s solid fragrance. Syrupy-waxy realistic rose scent. A lot of people complain about it being synthetic. It is, but I think it’s because it needs to sit. It’s harsh out of the box and it’s already rounding out. Not pictured is Black Origami, dupe for Black Orchid bc I finished it. It’s much better than the original. I find the OG very screechy. Dupe is sweet, more rounded, and mass appealing. I kinda got BO/Pickles-Vinegar from the OG. Not pictured is Rose Origami bc I’m selling. It sucks. Smells like a very basic aquatic-rose room freshener/linen spray. Not objectively bad, just not perfumey. Nothing on OG Cafe Rose, that I actually bought an authentic bottle and it’s on the way. I loved that one. Ombré Leather dupe is FANTASTIC. I cannot believe I paid $10 it. There isn’t a reasonable difference between it and them to justify the price difference. I can’t compare them side by side, but I immediately recognized my dupe when I smelled the original again at Sephora about 2 days ago. That means they’re a minimum of 90% of each other. I want to say they’re a to within 5% of each other to my nose. OG is sweeter, more Amber. Dupe is dry, more realistic leather. I like the dupe more.

This may be an odd one, but Morning Rain by Oakcha which is supposedly a dupe for Mojave Ghost by Byredo. Most people only say they’re somewhat alike. It’s a soft lemon-cedar scent. Smells like the fresh dewy air coming off the grass and pine needles here in SoCal. I associate it to the soft morning skies like your pic. Nighttime is more or less the same, just warmer/wetter. I wish the smell was slightly earthier and projecting to truly capture what you’re talking about.

Maybe another anon that is more knowledgeable on ambers can give you better advice. I was just giving my personal taste, most people would likely not think they're too sweet on the base. I don't have a lot of ambers, I have D&G Velvet Desert Oud which is a completely different fragrance and not as good as the Tauer desert fragrances. Desert Oud is very smoky and resinous, but the sweetness is even throughout the fragrance. The thing I don't like in L'air is the same thing I don't like in Gucci PH1, they are fantastic light airy fragrances but then I'm left with this amber base which to me is too sweet. Whenever I don't like a base note it makes me think it's only there to make the fragrance last longer and I would rather the fragrance not last as long. I wouldn't mind a sweet amber that is sweet all around, even if it would be only for winter nights.

tldr: I have very peculiar tastes, don't pay me no mind.
