>>18770446>does the blacksmith have the same canvas lining as the iron ranger?Yes> i could swear it was leatherOld beckmans had a leather lining.
Wassup boot nerdsI’m considering getting my old Red Wing blacksmiths resoled but kind of want a softer sole. Can they do that? I mean can Red Wing put a softer but same type of sole on them? Thanks bros
>>18770476they can put the same wedge sole they put on the 875s onto your blacksmiths
>>18770446blacksmiths have always had the fabric lining as the IRs only the beckmans got the leather lining
>>18770476A good cobbler can pretty much do anything you want Good luck finding a good cobbler though
Kind of tangentially boot related, but are there any sneakers without mushy soles? I much prefer the hard sole of boots but sometimes a man's gotta wear sneakers.
>>18770494feit if you're looking for leather soled sneakers
>>18770423Oh, man! Are those heckin' Red Wings? High quality boots by any measure!
>>18770523When do you stop crying?
why do you /fa/ggots hate Doc Martens?
>>18770437All cowboy boots vary between hot garbage not even worth the 120$ listed price and decent. You gotta realize they started putting rubber on the soles of those boots because leather bottoms are only good for dancing/office work at this point. Round toe is for actual ranchers who ride horses and square toe is for actual blue collar workers. The rest is for posers.
>>18770437Ariat for round toe, Double H for square toe. lean in on the higher price being the better option. If you want actual leather bottoms that hold up well for dancing then go up market 350-500$ range. Elephant leather & Stingray leather have to be fitted properly, they under no circumstances break in. Alligator leather is really weak so only reserved for dancing. Ostridge leather is higher end for work and hold up for a long time but most people can't afford to buy something like that unless they are committed to resoling it more than 3 times of which most boots shit themselves after the third resole.
>>18770557They're poorly made and overpriced
>>18770557Expensive boots for dykes. I really don't like the look of the soles. Besides hiking boots are more effay than them.
>>18770557no shank
>>18770423imagine wearing that lame ass retro shit. it aint 1930 fag
>>18770604They have composite toes now but do they have composite shanks?
>>18770557We like women.
>>18770604Technically they have a wooden shank like an ice cream stick. It breaks easily and doesn't really do anything.
>>18770611Would be worse than cork due to molding. But then again if your entire life is wearing boots you are likely to wear 2 pairs rotating every other day due to sweat mitigation and compression mitigation. That is the OG way militaries used to keep boots lasting longer than 6 months when insoles was cardboard, crappy leather and the soles were leather.
Red Wing is so fucking cringe. The look itself of the boots seems like they were created specifically for reddit guys.
>>18770616Honestly way overpriced for a brand of boots. For their prices you can get better brands/styles/designs. Only thing keeping them reddit afloat is the fact that they have cobblers on payroll. Without that they would have zero value towards the industry.
>>18770618They’re also notoriously the most uncomfortable and hard to break boots out there, but not because the leather is super chunky and the cork filling very thick such as in White’s or Tricker’s, but because they just fucking suck. They feel obnoxious and uncomfortable even months after the break-in period is finished.
>>18770619Sounds like they need a traditional break in cycle where you soak them in water, grease up your ankles and walk through the neighborhood. Really though most full leather boots need like 2 weeks max to break in even the vintage styled WW1/WW2 boots barely took that long to break in properly.
I don't know what you guys are talking about. My Iron Rangers took two weeks to break-in and my mocs less than a week.
>>18770619That’s because they don’t have a midsole.>muh archive modelsAbsolute joke of a brand.>>18770629Retard

>>18770639>>18770643>only the people of Texas out of the whole world have real jobsYou’re a fucking clown.
>>18770644I'm not in Texas, dummy.
>>18770640im an electrician and i take the mocs/ir on site ez cuz i dont wanna die electrocuted. if i need toe guards i just snap them on ez. both are comfy af after the break in period, had them for 5 years best money spent
>>18770643Not when most redwings boots are north of 220$. that's like saying jeans are still the staple for work pants when most people have moved onto ripstop cargo pants for utility/price reasons. But like i said fashion brand first work second. You recoup the value of them through resoling but you could also do that with any goodyear welted boot on the market atleast 3 times before the leather shits itself mind you.
>>18770648Same anon. Never wore mocs what is the kino with them? and what is the downsides?
>>18770649>Not when most redwings boots are north of 220$that's why they're respected, they're nicer and comfier than the usual boot.most dudes just get the cheapest walmart garbage they can find and end up replacing them every year.
>>18770652My experience is that most soles on boots don't last 1500 miles period(mostly vibram last this long). When do you resole them? I am saying that because if they got special sole sauce i need to understand a rough number of miles when that occurs.
>Looking to buy Merrel tactical boots for 100 dollarydoos. >Has a zipperFuck you nigger.
>>18770651downs:the break in period. those were my first boots so they kicked my ass. also it was hard to for me to figure out the right size. ups: definitely they last a shit ton and they do take a beating. i take car4e of them tho but my mocs need a resoling thats for sure. i think these are the only pairs i'll buy i dont wanna go own this rabbit hole desu
>>18770652>end up replacing them every year.So most boots if you don't replace the sole? Dam walmart boots are alot better than they used to be.
>>18770657If you like a brand of shoe/boot/style then you might end up in a rabbit hole eventually with 12 pairs of boots. If boots is the entire rabbit hole then you will end up with 30.
>>18770653three years of use on the pecos and they could stand to get a resole in the next year or so.>>18770658my old pair of GYW lasted me six years before they needed a resole albeit most of that was lighter duty work, my current pair is going on a year now and the soles are fine.both GYW boots have thinner leather than the Redwings, which is what we were originally talking about.
>>18770660I have worn plenty of cheap boots if you actually take the time to condition it(it maintains the same color) or grease it( often darkens it) then the leather is rarely going to give out on you aside from actual concrete work, in which case you rubberize the toe or buy pre-rubberized toes. What drew you to the Pecos instead of any other cowboy boot style?
>>18770661I wanted to try a pull-on boot and I wanted to try Redwings specifically, two birds stoned at once.
>>18770663Makes the most sense for any purchase. Be sure to double check on how to retain the color i used boot grease on 2 pairs of my pull ons and darkened them. Now imagine if i didn't want to get darkened whew.
>>18770561Cowboy boots are traditionally made with leather soles because they're predominantly riding on a horse, not walking. And leather soles are slick and don't get stuck in a stirrup compared to grippy rubber which can literally save your life So it's part tradition and part functional.
So Nicks doesn’t use cork filling uh? Also no steel shank. Remind me why we would pay six hundred bucks for that.>b-but maid by hando! thick leder!
>>18770680Company contracts likely. Loggers tend to wear logging boots. Even so i doubt they would fork it up for them at those prices when they can just give them the same amount for another brand to buy 2 of them. Carolina loggers are good enough imo.
>>18770682>Carolina loggers are good enough imo. What's your take on the brand? Worth it?
>>18770687I haven't tried any other brand in the logging style. Great in the snow and rain if you apply boot wax it becomes somewhat water proof but loses its breathability which is a decent trade off if you are hiking through the woods on short treks in the snow ie 5-10 miles, if you don't apply it then the breathability is pretty good which is why i don't apply it. I have sweaty feet so it's the only downside to loggers due to hits more ridged construction. To compare it to another boot they make that made me go for a logger i would say the corcoran marauder due to its high heel. This higher heel than the marauder gives you a much more stable walking posture when moving through rocks, uneven terrain or bush. I find the soles are pretty good for wet conditions and snow its good for me but for others they might want to consider wool socks if you are deep in the snow. Comfort wise its great 9/10 but you gotta break them in for about a solid week to depress the leather. Spruce: 8" Waterproof Logger (Steel Toe)https://www.carolinashoe.com/en/spruce-8-inch-steel-toe-waterproof-logger-16221.html?dwvar_16221_color=Brown
>>18770687Forgot to add. Only thing that sucks about carolinashoe's is the insoles. They are thin enough to not be uncomfortable but not robust enough to last longer than a year. It cannot be helped. Go with Ariat insoles so you retain the internal foot height. I have also had zero luck with gel inserts.
>>18770688>>18770691Thanks. Appreciate it.

>>18770476>Red Wing If you don't want to make a 300 dollar mistake then save a bit more money, because once you get into the 600-800 dollar range you're almost certainly going to get a great quality boot. You're not going to get anything good for 300-500 dollars, but you're also at risk of getting something bad if you don't have a good eye for it. In my opinion, the only way a cheap (considering this reasonably cheap) boot can last more than a couple of years of wear is if the wearer doesn't actually really care how they look in the first place. There will come a point when your eye develops and you can't help but notice that your leather is a bit tacky after a few years, and then you'll want to buy more expensive boots anyway.

So I’ve been wearing leather Blucher moc shoes to most “you need to look good” events. I am starting to get kind of unpleased with the look and want to look “cooler” so to speak. I’m thinking leather boots might be the answer. My biggest caveats are that I think I prefer the rugged and more casual look of lug soles.I also don’t want to look like a fag since I’m a 5’7 (but fit) manlet.

Serious question, why the fuck are celastic heel counters even a thing if they're bound to be a piece of shit that will undoubtedly break down? Certainly a single piece of fucking leather can't cost enough to justify using celastic over it. Has the celastic lobby epsteined half of the boot manufacturers into using it?

Where do you order your boots from?
>>18776912>one dollar retard. leatherboard costs more than celastic, and real leather costs more than leatherboard celastic you just slap on there, heat it up and go. leatherboard must be wetted and shaped, leather must be wetted, shaped, sanded, etc. time is money and money gets passed on to the consumer and the brand that uses these specific materials have a market point they reside in and a costing model they use for that market if they're in the 300 dollar range they need to do 300 dollar manufacturing process and if they're in the 900 dollar range they do 900 dollar manufacturing processes but you're a fucking mongoloid retard who doesn't know how business works so no point waste time on you
>>18777056Directly from the company if it's in stock or from somewhere like Blue Owl or Standard and Strange or one of those
>>18776912because supposedly they hold their shape better and don't deform when wet, that is the reason why brands like wesco and some cowboy boots use themthey want the heel shape to stay rigid for pull-on boots, since supposedly leather heel counters can stretch out and lose their tight fit with wearthat may be a legit concern or just a cope to use cheaper materials, either way i don't think durability is a big concern with wesco heel counters and it's not like they can't be replaced easily anyway, more just a pain to break inthere are people out there that actualy prefer the celastic believe it or not

Unless celastic vs leather toecap actually proves to be a significant decision making factor for a meaningful amount of consumers to the point where adding one would lead to a notable enough increase in sales to offset the extra cost, they wouldn't bother even if it only cost them a cent to add.

>>18777987Thanks for sharing your opinion, anon. Good point. Yeah, I forgot to mention beeswax too, which has a similar waterproofing effect to jojoba oil (actually a liquid wax) and lanolin (also some sort of natural wax mix from sheep). I have a bottle of Fiebing's NFO that I've been using on stuff like wallets, belts, etc., which has worked well (the finish is even), but for my shoes I too used some generic mink oil cream mixed with waxes and petroleum jelly
