>>18777638Nah, that’s not me. I hate Adolf Hitler, Hideki Tojo and Stepan Bandera and all those idiots. The watch itself in that photo is pretty nice tho. My “persona” here politically speaking is supposed to come across more like a good natured conservative guy who hates Nazis/ communists/ warmongers all equally- think like Clark Gable in a WWII era movie. I don’t see why everyone nowadays seems to be some political flavor of Nutjob… someone who makes fun of Kapustin and Azov so often isnt gonna want a Hitler watch..
>>18777601Tag could be good but they keep doing weird niche junk. The last really good watch they came up with is the glass box chronos. The time and date carerras are okay but they're so generic. Other than that I can only guess they're supported by a few thousand diehard F1 fans that want to collect every color of that quartz shitter?

>>18778358>>18778360IIRC Lip and Timex co-developped the first electromecanical calibers like this and they were not great. You get the worst of both worlds : regular battery changes (every year or so, these consume much more than a quartz watch and the batteries of the time were worse too) and poor accuracy.Interesting tech, but there's a reason it didn't catch on.
Would be nice if it was made from crystal but it's likely plastic. What a mick take

should I sell my g757-4010 before it randomly shits itself? I like the module but I'm kinda worried it will die any day because of its age, also kinda too small for my blind eyes to read at a glance.
>>18779617It doesn't look like it was ever a patent, they seemed to have been in use already as standalone flight computer things and Breitling just made an inspired connection and design.A few other brands had or copied the idea in the 40s and 50s including Heuer.Idk why Sinn felt they needed to pay for the design but they did, or maybe it just came with the dials and cases. >>18779604It's produced under breitling's own license.During the 90s when Breitling moved most of their production to quartz, they outsourced the Navitimer to Sinn, gave them the full license to make them and badge some batches under their own name. Guys, I honestly think the Casio aq230 series is one of the best watches in the world. Analog digital hybrid is superior to either analog or digital. Plus these cheap casios in the fully gold colorway are basically the only way that you can wear a watch that's gold colored without looking like you're wearing a solid gold watch or pretending to wear a solid gold watch

I know that nobody asked, but I want to share a bit of a blogpost here.My current view on watches is a bit polarised. I think only brands with a good history, easily recognisable name, or the ones that make most of their stuff in-house are worth paying a "premium" for. There are a lot of brands which only the biggest nerds ever heard of, yet they cost like $3k or some shit. This is cringe in my opinion. For me it's simple, either the brand is actually "big dick", or if not you are better off just buying a chinese shitter. Both Casio and Rolex are worthy brands. It goes beyond the actual price category, even though the price is important.
>>18781386The reality is pretty much everything from a major brand is good and it's pretty much just a matter of picking something you like aesthetically and for the functions it has. If you're really destitute then san martin is cool, again just pick something you like. Outside of cheapo $100 chinese automatics on Amazon pretty much everything is decent. And if you want to see what everyone is excited about, 2 minutes looking up YouTube reviews will help you. At any given time there are like 12 watches in every price point that every youtuber is talking about at the same time. They're probably pretty good.
>>18781409You're right, nobody asked.
>>18781409People who are very new to buying watches with a very limited budget look at it with this box checking spec sheet pros and cons approach given to them by watch bloggers and youtubers and shit, and it makes sense to do this to a certain degree but it's really stifling to your personal appreciation of style and engineering and art. You're going to end up with the same collection as everyone else. Maybe that's cool if you wabt to be watch bros with people who have the same tastes as you, but personally I get tired of seeing collection pictures that are just the same 6 rolexes and a speedmaster and a santos, or at a higher price bracket every collection is a royal oak, a nautilus and a daytona and maybe a pepsi. Each individual watch is unassailable a d anyone would like to have them, but it's like a rich guy saw a magazine article about the top 10 mens watches and bought them all. It's fuckin boring. You really have to go to boutiques and personally try on a bunch of watches to see what you like and buy things based on how you feel wearing them in an open minded way. Forget about brand, forget about specs, forget about hype. You might find that you really fuckin like Franck Muller or Oris or something, at least particular models. The other day I tried on one of those Ressence watches, they use these crazy discs and put them really up close to the crystal so they look like smart watches and the whole dial spins around in circles and stuff. A lot of them are oil immersion watches, which is really interesting. This thing is bigger than I generally like watches to be but I really like how they fit and how the case back is the crown and the control is kind of novel but really simple. So I've been seriously considering getting one. And my collection is going to have something funky that when people see it they're not going to think I'm just a fake nerd that buys hype.
>>18781436>You're going to end up with the same collection as everyone else. The problem with the Oppositional Defiance Disorder-style of collecting is that you purposely limit yourself from watches that you might really like simply because they're popular. What if you really like the simple, common DateJust? Nope, too popular. You have to be different. That kind of approach becomes just as tiresome as the guy who collects all the hype pieces or the guy who box-checks based on function (I need a dive watch, a pilot watch, a travel watch, a chronograph...).It's like the music "critic" who can't tell you whether he actually likes any music or even listens to music but can authoritatively point out when the band that you like sold out.
>>18781438I explicitly didn't say that for that reason. Nobody said DONT buy a datejust or submariner. I'm saying there's other stuff that you might like better even if the brand isn't as strong or you don't think the "value" is there. If you like a submariner buy it, but don't let it stop you from looking at a blancpain fifty fathoms or bathyscaphe because you might like them better despite them being more expensive and nobody knows wtf blancpain is and it's weird that there are still watches in this price point that are 3hz and don't have hacking. It's cool to give things that don't check every box on your value spreadsheet a chance.
>>18781439To add to that, maybe you'll try on a villaret and think "wow, this feels a lot better than a datejust and there are a lot of possible complications and sizes to choose from." If that's how you feel maybe that's a better purchase than buying a datejust AND a submariner or OP for the same money. The rolexes are good watches, you're not going to cry if you bought them instead, but the idea of" value" could be stepping on your enjoyment and enthusiasm and personal fashion without you even realizing it.
>>18781439>and it's weird that there are still watches in this price point that are 3hz and don't have hacking.See, this is the mental trap. Even if you tell yourself "Ignore specs", you can't.The more you learn about watches, the more specific your tastes get. >has to be in-house, has to have this much water resistance, has to be this thin, has to have micro-adjust in the clasp, etc etc. There may be a watch you really like that you'll never allow yourself to love because it will ONLY have 50m water resistance and you'll convince yourself with pseudoscience that 50m ackshually equals 3m "in the real world".Rolexes tend to tick the most boxes, which is why they tend to be the default choice. But to the Blancpain and the low beat-rate. I own a Bathyscaphe. I thought I'd care about the low beat rate or even the lack of hacking. Turns out, it doesn't matter. The watch is still accurate to within a second per day, which is all that matters, and anyone can do a watch-maker's hack when setting the watch. So if that was something that prevented you from considering the watch, you just end up playing yourself because, as it turns out, people don't actually know what most "important specs" actually mean in real life.
>>18781444I'm not sure if you're agreeing with me or not.I'm not saying I have that hangup about hacking and beatrate, I'm saying a lot of people do and maybe they shouldn't. So in that way we agree?I know rolex ticks the most boxes and that's valuable IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WATCH. If you're a business woman who doesn't really like watches as a hobby but you want a nice watch, it's nice that you can get a watch that works in casual clothes and when you're dressed up and when you're going to work but it's also safe when you're washing the dishes and working in the garden and giving the kids a bath and that kind of stuff. But if you like watches and your goal is collecting that's actually very freeing because you can afford to have different watches that serve different purposes. You can buy the villaret for special occasions and not worry about needing to swim with it because you have a SeaQ for that. Options matter a lot more.
>>18781444Something you have to keep in mind with water resistance specifically is that it can be very misleading because different companies have different standards for what they put on their specs sheet for that. It's kind of an industry standard to put 30m as a short hand for "no water resistance," but there are other brands like Patek where when they say 30m they actually MEAN they stand by the watch surviving going to 30m depth. Without knowing that you might look at a Nautilus and think "damn, I can't swim in a nautilus???" But that's literally what it's made for. That's the biggest thing people always say against buying the Panerai Due, it's a great looking watch and people like the size vut they only put 30m on the specs sheet. That's because they don't do the testing and QC and spend a lot of time verifying the WR of the cases to justify standing by giving them a better rating. There are videos online of dues surviving 200m and 300m pressure tests with no issues. There's no reason you can't swim in them, it's fine.
>really like many Hamilton Khaki Field watches>most of them have "Khaki" written on the dial>khaki sounds like poop in many languages>this really bothers me>nice watch ruined by saying "poop" on the dial
>>18781451Nobody is reading your watch. Do you even live in a country that speaks one of those languages?
>>18781454If he lived in a shithole like that he has other worries first lmfao.
>>18781446>I'm saying a lot of people do and maybe they shouldn't. So in that way we agree? We do.Personally, my only requirement for a watch is that it's interesting to me. Anything that comes after that is secondary. An Armin Strom can be as interesting as an old Rolex Oysterdate, though obviously for different reasons.
>>18781454Yes.>>18781462It's a lot of countries, including France and Germany. I guess everything is a shithole except the place where you live.

>>18781507You what now?
Sold my Patek Calatrava (real) and picked up this Rolex (fake)Was walking down the jewelry district (more like street) in Buenos Aires and saw this in a window, $300. Funny thing is, apparently Rolex never even made gold with a green face. Perhaps it's less scummy to wear a fake Rolex when it doesn't attempt to emulate a real model? I thought that color combo was better than any other Rolex I've seen. Never worn a fake watch before or a Rolex. How'd I do?
>>18781565never even made a Submariner* gold with a green face
>>18781565That's the perfect excuse for buying an homage if anything. If you want a red submariner you cannot get it from rolex, you HAVE to buy something else, so in that sense brands like Steinhart and San Martin are creating their own niche. If you fraudulently put rolex on the dial when everyone knows it's fake it's just pathetic, really.
>>18781565Good for you. No one should spend five figures on a fucking watch. You have a Rolex.
>>18781565This is the kind of horrific obvious fake that makes fakes embarrassing. The goldnis obviously not real, the green isn't even the right color, date and magnifier look terrible, and you're such a tiny impotent manlet it's hard to even identify what body part it's on so there's no way you did the work to afford that piece. It really is a staggering example of shitterdom.
>>18781585>when you spend 20k on a submariner and a 300 dollar fake looks better
>>18781585The gold they put on the good fakes is real though, it's just an extremely thin layer, maybe 100 bucks worth across the entire watch.
>>18781585Jealous and bitter that you still covet the real thing. Faggot.
>>18781598bittacel
>>18781600Nope.
>>18781593It's still not the right color. And it's going to wear away which makes it a waste of time and money.
>>18781603Just spray it with paint IF that time comes.
>>18781604I'd rather just get plain steel shitters and not worry about it.
>>18781603>It's still not the right color. It's a watch that never existed by Rolex, there is no right color>And it's going to wear awayDamn my 300 dollar rolex will look a little scuffed in 2 years? I was hoping to lay this down to my grandchildren...
I think a fake Rolex only works if you already look solidly middle class and could afford it the genuine article - white, nice car, well-groomed, straight white teeth and so on.If the brown security guard in your office who drives a CR-V and has fucked up teeth shows up to work with a Rolex, it just makes him a figure of ridicule.
>>18781561It's huge.
>>18781603>And it's going to wear awayWhen you fist your Brazilian tranny gf you can tell her you're depositing gold in her asshole.
>>18781444>bathyscapeHoly shit I just looked it up. It’s beautiful. Is that the 70th anniversary version? It’s like the 62MAS but tuned to my specific tastes. If I could buy a lot of watches without thought I’d get one. But for now I’ll just stick to my one Rolex (and a multitude of Seikos).
>>18781488I Unironically prefer a number of Longines current models to a lot of entry level Rolex. Spirit, spirit pilot, zulu time, hydro conquest, all great.Spirit 37mm is going for like $1800 on used market right now and I cannot think of a better value prop swiss piece
>>18781698Too bad they all have the mallmark of shittery.
>>18781729skill issue
>>18781565I'm not feeling this one. A fake should be something that exists, it should also be good quality so that it passes for real in day to day life. That is the only reason to get a fake.As that other guy said already, if you want colors that don't exist on a Rolex, chinese homages got you covered.
>>18781623Gold exists and is used in rolex watches.
>>18781686The bigger one is 40mm, the smaller one is 37mm. So, no, not really. Unless you are from 1940 and you fell out of a time loop with your 31mm men's watch.
>>18781696I really like everything about the bathyscaphe except for the hands and markers on the regular one. The hour markers are way too small, they look like they came off of a different watch. The 62mas looking one is really cool except for they put a solid gold rotor in it and made it way overpriced. It's supposed to be a very simple utilitarian watch.I really like this one but, again, it was a limited edition and sold out and I haven't seen any come up used. The only problem is it has bo date. Maybe that's not a problem for you.A blancpain AD guy recently told me that early next year they're doing another bathyscaphe throwback reference. Maybe that will be the time.
>>18781782Looks like the most boring and generic trash that could come out of a chink factory
>>18780373Who even wear shorts like these?Mumbai fashion
he shits on watches and he ‘s right
>>18781565I wouldn't call that a rep, it's not even rated as a "not clean" rep. It's a cousin, it's a distant relative, it's something you'd find on a romanian market. But on the upside, it does fit your life, as you live in South America.
>>18781786And yet that's exactly what you want from a daily working watch. It's simple and all brushed, small and light, nobody who doesn't know watches would ever guess it's worth something so it doesn't draw attention. It's great.
>>18781802>that's exactly what you want from a daily working watchNope.
>>18780920>The Yacht-Master 16622You take the blue pill, you buy your Submariner, and you go home, content that you've bought a fine watch. You take the red pill, you buy the Yacht-Master, and you get to take the first step toward seeing just how odd you can allow your tastes to get.
>>18781821Yeah. This is so good.
>>18781821>>18781822Old Seiko was so good. Shame.
>>18781822>>18781824 I don’t know why Seiko refuses to do a true SKX reissue instead of focusing on endless 62mas reissues. Even if they priced it higher people would still buy it
>>18781826Because 62mas is a better watch? And it seems the people kind of agree, aren't the latest batch of reissue selling for like 2-4x retail? The ONLY reason skx was so popular was because it was really cheap because they were cutting corners on the movement and crystal and bracelet and so on. Seiko today stays cutting corners but they're still charging over $400 for the equivalent shitters and people aren't standing for that bullshit.
>>18781837>The ONLY reason skx was so popular was because it was really cheap because they were cutting corners on the movement and crystal and bracelet and so on.Not just the SKX, all Seiko. They weren't perfect, sure. Not the most accurate or well-made, but for their ridiculously low prices, they obliterated anything costing even three times as much. This extended all the way up the range. Years ago, I bought a Grand Seiko 8J HAQ for six hundred dollars and it was truly impressive how good it was.If Seiko wanted to move up into higher market segments, that's their choice, but without improving the actual quality of the watches, the formerly good deal that Seiko represented turned into a waste of money.
>>18781837There’s no seiko watch in the current lineup that sells above MSRP, let alone 2-4x retail. SKXs still sell above original MSRP and if they charged 650-850 for a reissue people would buy it even without sapphire crystal
>>18781842It's their own fault for how they manage their lineups and brands. I can't make sense of it, under the main seiko brand they have watches from $100 all the way up to $4-5k, then they have two "higher end" brands also making watches in that range plus higher, then they have a THIRD brand in creedor also making watches in those price points. Then they have orient making even cheaper shitters thsn their own cheep shitters. Why would you have 5 brands all stepping on each other? Is there some reason King Seiko watches couldn't just be produced by Grand Seiko? They even cannibalize movements, like spring drive is used in BASE SEIKO sometimes as well as creedor. It's like they just run half a dozen brands for the sake of it because it's fun or something.
>>18781844I see multiple 38mm reissues from 2023 online right now asking $6-7k.
>>18781804What do you want?
>>18781792>I wouldn't call that a rep, it's not even rated as a "not clean" rep.How did you discern this from the photo, or are you just shitposting?>But on the upside, it does fit your life, as you live in South America.I live in France. My post made it pretty clear I'm traveling. ESL?
One, one too many schizophrenic tendenciesKeeps it complicatedKeeps it so aggravatedFull of this hopelessnessOh, what a perfect mess
>>18781739What about the Rolex doesn't pass besides that the metal/color combo doesn't exist (only Rolex chuds would know this)?
Imagine you're reviving a legendary american watch brand and this is the shitter you choose to launch with.
>>18781882>nothing about it is American>legendary American brandI think you might have a different notion of "reviving" than most people. This is more like trying to parasitize an old carcass.
>>18781885They're reviving the brand, not the factory.
What do I think of G-Shocks?
>>18781927I dunno, what do you think of them?
>>18781923A huge part of the brand identity is being American. It's not named after a person. It's named after a place in Massachusetts. If they're not going to bother setting up a factory in America (anywhere in America, it doesn't have to be Waltham, Mass.) at least, why even bother?
>>18781927The list of features your watch has can be 10 or 100 long, it won't change the fact that when people see you wearing a plastic watch and think of you as an adult child
>>18781961that's what YOU think, snob
>>18781962Go ahead, keep wearing a plastic watch. Keep wearing a backpack too. You're only 35, just a kid.
>>18781957Do you hold that standard for Hamilton and Ball and Benrus and other american brands acquired by other companies in other countries?
>>18781966>Do you hold that standard for Hamilton and Ball and Benrus and other american brands acquired by other companies in other countries?Of course, why wouldn't anyone?
>>18781970I've never heard anyone else raise that specific criticism for zombie brands before.
>>18781973NTA, but that's like the primary criticism of zombie brands: that whatever made the previous brand special is glossed over in an attempt by someone with zero connection to the original brand to make some money off easily gulled rubes.
>>18781978Yeah but that's not necessarily an issue of the country of origin. Even if it was an american company doing it they'd still be a zombie brand disconnected from the original
>>18781982>Even if it was an american company doing it they'd still be a zombie brand disconnected from the originalThat's not wrong, but I'd appreciate it a little more if they tried to resurrect the brand in the US.Like ALS at least rebuild the brand in Glashutte instead of in Switzerland, or when Moser was resurrected, they set it up in Schaffhausen instead of Geneva.
>>18781985I dunno, as long as the watches are good I'm norlt really concerned with where they're made or the origin of the founder or whatever. Even from their first inception some of the biggest companies today had nebulous origin, like how IWC was founded by an American that moved to Switzerland, or how rolex was founded by a German entrepreneur living in Britain who started building watches in Switzerland.
>>18782008Panerai was an Italian company damn near founded by rolex using rolex parts to produce watches for the Italian navy made in Switzerland.Watch manufacturing was funky like that.
>>18781961>adult childYou wouldn't be in this thread and forum if you're a proper adult anon.
But guys what about Guinand?
>>18781787They're from like 5 years ago, they're quite comfy in the summer. And i like blue and tartan. 15€ at H&M.

>>18782193No you don't.
Does the search for watches ever end? Could there actually be enough for some people? Did you ever find a watch that fulfills your needs and you wear it most of the time?
>>18782212Sort of.While you're still infected with the consooming bug, you'll always find something else to buy. As soon as you buy one watch, you're already thinking about the next one. This will never stop while you've got the bug.Eventually, though, you'll realize buying watches is not a hobby and you'll move onto something else. You'll either keep the watches you've got or sell off all but one or two. You'll know when you've finally cured yourself of the illness when you can read or talk about watches you like without thinking "I need one of those."For myself, I was getting kind of bored with watches during the coof. Working from home didn't help, because it meant I never had to get dressed for work so I rarely wore a watch. When we returned to the office, I found myself not wearing a watch at all most days. From there, it was a pretty easy decision to sell off my collection.I kept a couple dressy pieces and a G-Shock for sports. The steel sports watches, though, are all gone.
What do you think I should get if I want roman numerals? I have this image of myself that is really from the 19th century, a shabby homeless but upper class poet, a spiritist and schwartzkunstler, who has seen better days and worse days in his past and his future. Therefore I think I need a watch with roman numerals, and it probably needs to be stainless to go with my silver occult jewelry as obviously I have long pawned all my gold jewelry. Suggestions?
>>18782218A vintage Universal Geneve
>>18782212A watch like that would be a genius-tier idea
>>18782214What made you not keep any of the steel sports watches?
>>18781927My job involves leaping off of cliffs on a daily basis and my Gshock has held up years of that abuse unlike the rest of my wardrobe
>>18782218Either a tiny dressy watch like a vintage Cartier (but not a Tank, that would be too mainstream) or something out of left field like a Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronometer, whose design is basically unchanged for over a hundred years.
New thread:>>18782230>>18782230>>18782230>>18782230
>>18782223>What made you not keep any of the steel sports watches?Mostly because I stopped wearing them so there was no reason to keep them. Someone else can enjoy them. When I'm getting dressed up, I prefer the look and comfort of a dress watch. When I'm dressed casually, which is when I used to wear a sports watch, I'm probably not wearing a watch at all.
You guys watch it.
>>18782220Normally I'd say it's a great watch, but they're all really tiny. Same goes for vintage anything, I was looking into Longines and various other stuff, but if it's not 39+ I just can't. >>18782227>whose design is basically unchanged for over a hundred years. This is also generally a good idea, I like the stuff that you can't really date but again sizes are the issue.
>>18782248Those UN Torpilleurs are 41mm. Modern size.
>>18782248Do you have huge wrists or are you just beholden to stupid trends?
>>18782248I have this 38mm, not too small, you'll get used to it
>>18781565>$300>in Argentina>buys shitty fake Rolex instead of 4 housesretard

>>18782948Sure, why not? It doesn’t cost much and you can always sell it if you don’t like it.
