Its only downside is that the bezel isn't bidirectional
Is it an NPC choice that my grail is a Submariner?
>>
>>18782242
Totally. Least unique and interesting watch. Most overpriced for what you get. Good luck buying one without "developing a relationship" with a salesman or "A.D.".
>>
>>18782242
You'd have to go for either a GMT Master or Yachtmaster if you want a bidirectional bezel. And the Yachtmaster bezel sounds and feels really squishy and nasty, so it's actually just down to the GMT master.

They used to make all black GMT bezels, I wonder if the black beauty will ever come back.
>>
>>18782230
I like the simplicity of the Rolex Explorer
>>
>>18782246
Nah this shit just looks like a submariner
But unidirectional bezel is not a dealbreaker imo.
submariner really is the most balanced watch, and more useful than a datejust/op just because of the bezel.
I never understood why people love chronographs so much. There is nothing more elegant than rotating bezel for having a "stopwatch"
>>
>>18782246
You could also try and find a Turn-o-graph, but that's a lot dressier-looking.
>>
>>18782250
I was talking to someone who wants a submariner but doesn't like the unidirectional bezel. "It looks like a submariner" is a pretty retarded, no-shit kind of reaction.
>>
>>18782250
Chronographs are a much more precise means of timing things for when seconds and fractions of seconds matter. If that matters to you and what you want to time with it then chronograph is kind of non-negotiable.

So what are your thoughts on these Chinese Super Clones i keep hearing about?
>>
I don't think about them at all.
>>
>>18782421
Last thread a bunch of people got triggered because someone bought a mid tier submariner clone.

Rolex owners in particular I think are really seething. Everyone can see the writing on the wall that if even verified dealers can't tell the real from the superclone without sending it off to Switzerland for weeks of costly disassembly, the secondary market for retail watches is going to collapse.

Vintage watch owners are sitting pretty and that value may even go up since at least you can verify it's genuine - can't convincingly clone a patina yet.

>>
>>18782453
And yet, besides that the colour doesn't exist, nobody could demonstrate that it was a fake. Curious.

Do you think the seethe comes from genuine Rolex owners, realizing their 10k watch that cost 1k to produce will soon be worth 2k? Or is it people who can't afford a Rolex anyway seething that someone took the easy route?

You could definitely do so and people did.
>even if they made a green gold submariner that's not the green they would have used
>the color of the gold is cheesy
>the printing on the dial is the wrong color
>the date and magnifier is horrible
Among other things.
>>
>>18782466
>the colour on this watch that doesn't exist isn't right
>the gold is too gold coloured
Why even write these? Just making my point.
You're right about the magnifier though, that's the only tell from what I can see. It's not 2.5x, maybe its 1.5 or something. I have to suspect if the 300 dollar clones have only this flaw, the 500-1000 dollar ones certainly rectify it.

You also didn't answer my question - are you a Rolex owner, or a Rolex striver? Trying to pinpoint the source of the insecurity
>>
>>18782468
Yeah, I don't get why people fellate that brand so much. Not just here but everywhere. They let the name "Rolex" carry so much weight. It's silly.
I would feel stupid wearing one if I wasn't extremely wealthy. Even then I'd probably have more sense than to spend so much on one watch. They're worth maybe $2K in parts and labor. The rest is to pay Leo and golfers endorsement money.
>>
>>18782468
Compare that green to the actual rolex green. The brand uses a specific green.

Alsoncompare the gold to an actual gold submariner. Also compare the finishes on the bracelet, the fake looks terrible.

Anon, it's a colour combination that doesn't exist. We've been through this twice.
>The brand uses a specific green.
No it doesn't. Rolex uses several shades of green. See pic.
>Alsoncompare the gold to an actual gold submariner.
The gold looks the same. The clones use real gold, you know that right? They use something called gold plating, so there's a very thin veneer of gold that inevitably chips off with enough damage. It's actually very cheap. In any case, like the green colour, they use a variety of gold alloy combos. Just do a google image search, the gold is in all different colours.
>>
The gold here looks fake too, right?

I will only tolerate anime on my watch threads when they make a show about watchmaking.
It can be realistic, it can be SoL, it can be a gag-a-minute comedy, it can be a battle shounen where characters represent different models, doesn't matter.

>Do Submariner green rolexes all use the same color of green?
>No, the greens differ between models, and sometimes between examples of the same model.
>16610LV “Kermit” (2003-2010): The green is on an aluminum bezel insert with a black dial. It’s a brighter, yellower, almost lime green.
>116610LV “Hulk” (2010-2020): The green is a ceramic (Cerachrom) bezel with a matching green sunburst dial.
>26610LV “Starbucks” (2020-present): This has a ceramic bezel with a black dial. The green is darker and more muted than the Hulk, closer to a deep forest or Starbucks green.

You are saying this based on what? San Martin and some other brands come with a warranty of 2 years. They even care about public image and send needed parts to random redditors for free and apologise for the thing being broken.

What more can you ask from such a cheap brand? If something breaks after the warranty period, just take it to any normal watchmaker for repair, they use common movements anyway.

Being Chinese is not necessarily an indication of abuse. Producing and selling an entire automatic watch for $100 is. Tourbuillons under $1k is.

What abuse? You don't understand anything. Labor is only one of the reasons they can offer low prices. China makes the steel for the world. What the fuck do you care? It's worth it to get really shitty steel cheap. It's worth it to ship fruit produced in north america to thailand to be processed and canned and then ship it back here, instead of just canning the shit here. Just think of all that diesel being burned and all the people in north america that could have nice factory jobs with good pay producing domestic products, but Ping Ping needed the job more than them. FUCK I love globalization.

>POV: you're at the cusp of realizing the problem is actually capitalism but you blame China instead
>>
>>18782964
The decline in American wealth that happened since the postwar period is often blamed on globalization but a big reason why a guy was able to support a whole family and buy a mansion on a factory salary in the 50s is because America was basically the last country on earth that could produce anything after the war. Everyone else who was civilized at the time got bombed to smithereens and had to spend decades rebuilding their countries and breeding more males. And the third would still lived in grass huts so it would be a very long time before they could compete in manufacturing. This situation allowed us to basically scalp the rest of the world on cars, food, materials, technology, and medication, because we were the only completely unbombed country at the time. The way everyone else eventually caught up and conditions in America got worse was completely inevitable. Things today are more normal in terms of historical precedent than they were then. That postwar golden age was an extreme aberration.
>>
>>18783329
The unique state of wealth inequality in the US and the total loss of manufacturing capability can just as easily be blamed on the lack of sufficient capitalism. I know you people use that term just to describe anything you don't like so this argument will probably fall on deaf ears, but America is not totally a free market, and most of the things you don't like are actually caused or majorly amplified by the fact that the government actually makes anti-capitalist regulations that protect large corporations at the expense of small companies. Some of these are called safety regulations and restrict how operations can be done, or who can buy the products. Some of them are licensing regulations that restrict who can do things, or who can build things. Some of them are zoning and environmental regulations that restrict
>>
>>18783340
>that restrict
Where you can do things and when. And there are regulations that restrict who you're allowed to hire, forcing our companies to hire minorities and women for the sake of diversity at the expense of efficiency and output. All of these things are what contribute to the environment we find ourselves in today, where starting a business to compete with corporations in most industries is basically impossible because it takes a massive company and a team of lawyers just to get through all the red tape. So the corporations have monopolies and they're allowed to just do whatever they want. And that's also why healthcare is so expensive: The monopoly on drug research and manufacturing which allows them to charge high prices is caused by regulations. Your access to drugs without going through expensive doctors and pharmacists is restricted by regulations. The high price of doctors, pharmacists, and hospitals is caused by their artificially limited supply, because of regulations on who can practice medicine and who can sign off on prescriptions and diagnoses. And it sounds like I'm suggesting we do away with licensure entirely but I'm not. They actually restrict the flow of medical school graduates into the field on purpose because the board that grants licenses wants to keep the field lucrative. And they don't allow nurses to legally do simple and easy things that they literally already do without a real doctor signing off on it for the same reason. And medical school, and college in general, is so expensive because of regulations too. In this case it's because the government gives out loans to children for any amount of money, no questions asked, and does not allow you to declare bankruptcy to get out of it. This is not a natural financial product that the free market would ever offer anyone, it's literally an anti-capitalist program. And it allows colleges to charge anything they want for a degree because the government is paying.
>>
>>18783345
And all of this is caused by the fact that in the United States corporations have taken over the regulatory bodies that make all the regulations for everything. All the pharmaceutical and medical regulations are dictated by pharma companies, insurance companies, and hospital lobbyist groups. All the regulations on manufacturing are dictated by companies like Ford. All the regulations on building and zoning are dictated by big property owners. All the regulations on financial products and services are dictated by Wall Street. These companies just pay lobbyists to write regulations for Congress and they give them the papers and then they just put it into law without reading it. This is not capitalism, nor is it an essential consequence of capitalism. If anything, it's an essential consequence of liberal democracy, because any government with popularly elected leaders who serve very short-terms is naturally going to elect retards and then funnel them directly into the pocket of the wealthy elite.
>>
>>18783347
One last effortpost here and then I'm done. I want to clarify that I'm not against undoing regulations that concern worker protections, such as minimum wage, mandatory breaks, child labor laws etc. Corporations want my position to be conflated with people who want to reinstitute child labor and unsafe factory conditions, so you're less inclined to question the system that they have built. But worker protections actually contribute very little to the things that most people hate about the modern economy, And they make our lives better in other obvious ways. And they also don't burden small businesses disproportionately compared to corporations, in fact, it's really the other way around. So labor laws are not part of what I'm talking about.

The absolute conflation between all regulations and workers rights has already occurred in this thread. Earlier when you people were arguing about why China is able to produce such cheap watches, and both sides agree that it's because they don't have worker's rights, but you just disagree on whether it's good or not. Guys, it's not because they don't have worker's rights. Having a low minimum wage and low safety standards is not the reason why Chinese factories are able to produce watches so cheap. It's all of the other regulations and red tape they don't have that makes their country a competitive economy that's actually more capitalist than ours. For example, pretty much anybody can build a factory anywhere in China that does anything. There's very little zoning regulations, very little environmental bullshit, and by bullshit I'm talking about laws that say you can't build a building within in 1,000 yd of the nest of an endangered animal. They don't need to hire female minorities to build the building either. You don't need a special license to build a factory. They don't have restrictive intellectual property laws that prevent anyone from doing anything that's similar to what anything else is doing. etc

If China for whatever reason decided they weren't going to ship us insulin anymore probably hundreds of thousands of people would get sick and die within weeks and it would be our own leadership's fault.

You can't live in a sneaker or eat a smartphone. The abundance of cheap negrotech doesn't mean much if housing, food, education, and healthcare are unaffordable. But you already know that, so what's really the rhetorical argument that you're trying to make? Are you in favor of regulatory capture?
>>
>>18783364
Insulin is made in China because regulations prevent upstart American factories from being competitive with them. Repeal the laws requiring a million dollars of licensing costs and bullshit, a million hours of endangered bird inspection, black and female indigenous employees, special certifications, and impossible to acquire zoning permits. Then any random guy with access to a modest amount of capital could create an insulin factory on an abandoned lot in Newark NJ and sell it for 5% of the price that we normally have to pay and still make a fortune. Insulin is mad easy to make and it's not patented. It's really just regulations that prevent a Renaissance of industry from sprouting up all around us.

Very nice anon. Like mine a lot too. Sometimes I wish I got a more interesting dial, but I also quite like the smaller case diameter of these earlier JDM exclusive models. This is 100% my favorite watch to wear at this point, the size is just so good for my wrist, the bracelet fits me perfectly too despite lacking micro adjust, and I like how dependable and accurate the thing always is. Looks good with anything too.

>>18782230
What do you guys think of the non chronograph seiko speed timer models? Don't have a seiko yet and have been wanting to get one, and those appeal to me quite a bit. Initially the case diameter (39.5mm)was a bit offputting to me, but the lug to lug piqued (44.5mm) my interest. I'm thinking of going for the HBC004 since it has the strap and I know a Seiko bracelet will be loose and drive me nuts. The champagne dial looks quite cool though too and would probably be better for my collection in terms of color diversity.
