Red Wing Making That Faggot Seethe Edition

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

Have any of you gotten your woman hooked on nice men's boots? My wife has a hard time finding comfortable, high quality footwear, especially because she has wide feet and high insteps (she's between a men's D and E on brannock). I’m thinking of getting this as my first boot. Thoughts? I just want something I can dress up or down fairly easily and this seems to fit that description. I’m not interested in Chelsea boots and also not planning on doing any hiking or physical labor. Planning on wearing with jeans and wool trousers

My ex was kind of similar, high instep and D width. I showed her Carmina and she loved them. Got one pair of MTO boots and loafers from them. I'm not sure what last she used, but I have to imagine they'd have options that would fit a slightly wider foot.
>>
>>18785185
Looks like a good choice for that
>>
Anyone owned the Whites Perry?
I had a pair of RW Moc Toes but they just weren't a good fit for my foot. Too wide but too narrow in the toes. Simply not for me
How do the Perrys fit? Are they narrow in the toes? Sizing the same as the MP?
>>
>>18785247
I have some, sizing is the same. No issues with being squished in the toes but they're definitely designed around the removeable insole. Just something to consider, because I took it out and my foot was swimming in the boot.
>>
>>18785249
When it's in do they feel snug?
My problem with the RW Mocs was my foot would literally slide around inside even with the laces pulled tight but my toes would be squished and I couldn't spread them. Just a weird shitty last
>>
>>18785255
My forefoot locks in really well when they're laced up, but I still have some unwanted side to side movement at my heel if I don't wear thick socks.

>Doc Shitters
Dumbass shit. I have Whites, Redwings, and a number of other brands, and I still wear my docs more than any of them lol.
>>
>>18785340
They're fine as long as you actually wear them and put at least the basic leather care towards the uppers. I've had a pair for about 3 years now that's been fine aside from a little heel wear. No sole crumbling or anything weird.

>>
>>18785280
Surely Viberg must be better? At least by components. Aren’t Lofgren just like any other standard goodyear welted boots but with really high QC? Whereas Vibergs are really overbuilt like other PNW makers but with fancier designs and higher QC.

Never owned Lofgren but haven’t seen any reviews where they mention them having some extra thick insole or heel counters or whatever

I think every good boot has a heel counter. Heel counter is not some special thing.

>like any other standard goodyear welted boots
>whereas Vibergs are really overbuilt
What’s the real difference here? The extra thick insole? Judging from pictures, Lofgren or, say, Paraboot, have the same leather thickness as PNW boots. Or is it the thickness of the cork footbed?

I bought a pair last november when they were having a sale. Mine are in the brown waxy commander leather, aging beautifully. Sorry I don't have any pictures.
I believe repello isn't waxed suede but rather a suede that has a water resistance coating.

Only positive thoughts about them. Very comfortable, versatile, easy to style. They're not as chunky as they seem in the pictures, the last has a little extra space at the end which gives them this pointy "refined" silhouette. For sizing they're pretty consistent with other wider fitting leather shoes I own including Jim Greens and Paraboots. If I intended to wear them with thin socks only I could go down half a size, but the leather isn't the thickest so for the harsh winters here I need some thick socks.
>>
so, I switched back from leather laces to the default flat cotton laces that came with my lofgrens

and the flat cotton laces were more comfortable/gave a better fit on my boots

Expected the leather laces to be more comfortable because they flexed more
>>
>>18787147

Cotton laces are stretchy so of course they are far far far more comfortable.

Got these last year after looking for awhile for a new pair of boots to kast another 15 years. Allen Edmunds store. I beat them to shit already but what can you do. Decent refurbishment price to resole/etc.
>>
>>18787159
Well yeah, a woven cotton lace is gonna stretch and give quite a bit. There is a reason sneakers and shit all use cotton laces.
Leather laces are more utilitarian, you generally use them for maximum security and stability, like when you are hiking through dangerous terrain and want to make absolutely sure your boots aren't gonna shift around even one tiny bit. They will basically always snap before they give and stretch any meaningful amount.

For fashion do what you want though, leather laces just look way nicer with most boots.
>>

Alright guys, rant here. Wesco probably has the most retarded engineer boot design ever. Seriously, they fucking suck. 6 years ago I bought a pair of their Mister Lous. Followed the sizing advice, they fit well, but my god they are just uncomfortable. Footbed felt like I was walking on granite, and holy shit the heel counter felt nonexistent. Over 6 months of wear, I was still getting blisters on my heel because the heel counter had zero volume and felt like it was only containing only half of the total height of my heel while digging into the middle of my heel, creating blisters over a full days of wear. Sold those, then I went to the actual Wesco factory since I live locally. They measured my feet in person for a MTO pair of horsehide 7500 boots. Waited 9 months until they arrived at my place. The heel slip while using the 2nd to last instep strap was fucking massive, so I tightened the strap to the last hole. Way too tight for like a week until the leather stretched out and felt slightly more comfortable, but the issue with the heel counter came back and it feels like I'm getting hot spots on my heels because their engineer boots have a nonexistent heel counter. Oh and yeah the footbed on these also feels like granite.

If you're looking for a pair of engineers, DO NOT waste your money on Wesco. I think if there is something that is fundamentally flawed with their design, it would have to be the shape of the heel counter. Since there is no shape to it, it fails to even function and prevent heel slip while also digging or rubbing against your heel too aggressively. I've owned John Lofgrens which felt incredible compared to these. I bought a pair of RTW Role Clubs which are undoubtedly the best fitting and most comfortable boots I've ever worn. A pair of engineers need to minimize the heel slip while also feeling like there isn't too much aggressive friction.

And I'm sorry, but the CF Stead le wacky crazy leathers are so played out and tired that I'm just not interested. I don't care about yet another brand doing waxy commander or rambler. Truman did it first years earlier.

So my ideal boots would be custom black rough out hunter boots from whites and then I would wax them for looks and waterproofing but I don't have almost 900usd to drop on boots. I used to want lorenzo combat boots by from the first in suede to mimic that style I want but then from the first started scamming people so that's out the window. So what are my options for a black suede combat boot? It doesn't seem like I have any options. I could potentially buy some paramemes and sand down the smooth leather to make nubuck and do that but I just don't know.

Forgot my pic. Lorenzo combat boot by from the first. Essentially a dior navigator copy.

Seeing Carolina shoes and Asics lineup year to year i can fully understand why people buy shoes then buy another 3 pairs due to how much it changes sku's year by year.
