Hiking season is coming up, so I’m walking more to condition my feet. I walk 12 miles every Sunday, and covering so much ground and being out for so long I see a lot of people out an about.

This past Sunday I counted 6 ladies doing this. None were jogging, just walking with weighted vests. Also I live in the Deep South, aka Satan’s asshole, and it’s peak summer, so fewer people are exercising outside.

Has anyone else seen this? I looked it up and supposedly it really is trendy.

I swear to god some people would kill their firstborn to not have to jog or pick up a weight

I’m conditioning my feet. Specifically, I’m allowing calluses to build so I’m less likely to get blisters while hiking. This cannot be replicated; you have to spend time on your feet taking thousands of steps.
>12 miles
Yes, mostly because of time. It’s a little over 4 hours. It’s only done once a week because 4 hours after work will eat up most of an evening, disrupt normal dinner time, and leave basically zero time for anything else.
>once a week
That’s all that’s needed, and this isn’t all I’m doing. It’s one day out of a 5 day routine.
>so much ground
It’s a half marathon in slow motion.
>wearing vests
Other people are wearing them, not me. I opt for a smallish backpack instead. I think the concept is a little silly. You want to carry a load on your hips rather than your shoulders.

A brisk walk with a backpack over hilly streets puts me in low zone 2 cardio. Doing this in the heat increases V02 max and blood plasma, and also conditions sweat response. It also stresses out cardiovascular systems more. This is all basic stuff.

I’ve been seeing these more and more lately. There’s no way these are good for your joints

I saw some jacked Asian manlet jogging with one in front of my local pool last night. Might as well just get real armor and some DC-powered blower fans, kek.

Hiking with a pack isn’t bad. I go out roughly 20 times a year, and take at least one big trip (around 100 miles as a type of vacation; this season is a section of the Pinhoti Trail). I’m in my 40’s with no knee, back, or hip issues.

But I’m not a military LARPer with an 85L ILBE surplus bag and 12” tall jungle boots. The weight of these vests will definitely play a role, and of course jogging with one (rucking) is seriously rough on the joints. I couldn’t see ladies using more than 15lbs but who knows. These fads can make people do goofy shit. Pic rel was another one that was tangentially related to the outdoors (didn’t work as advertised, btw).

It's just rucking with even weight. It's better than jogging due to the stress it doesn't put on your joints

Anon, are you ok? This was explained pretty well in the OP but I’ll repeat it because you might be kind of slow.

When you hike a long distance over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions, if the skin in your feet isn’t tough enough you can end up with blisters. To prevent this from happening, you have to condition your feet. You can’t do that via HIIT cardio, or even less intense stuff like jogging (though jogging does help, it isn’t ideal). You certainly can’t do it through a strict diet or weight routine; that’s just retarded. The ideal way of building up one’s feet if through walking.

Just stay off the ivermectin unless you've actually got some parasite that it's unusually sensitive too; memes like COIVD and ass cancer it's actually mogged by bromelain plus NAC... and the same goes for most of its other supposed "indications."

>>
>>76564720
Isn't the point of those vests to hold your water/gels/snacks for long runs?
>>
>>76564720
Doesn't this just make it easier to catch and rape?
>>
>>76567109
No. They get a huge speed boost when they take off the vest. Like in Naruto!
>>
>>76567106
That’s a different type of vest. Running vests are just as you described. They’re used for necessity. These are weighted, and used to make walking more of a vigorous exercise.
>>
I like my weighted vest, but I got the Titan Fitness one with 60Lbs worth of 2.5Lb ingots.
Walking is already the greatest exercise of all time, this just adds that extra bit of progressive overload.
