>PCP wants me to go to physical therapy after I told him I've been having mild knee pain for the last few years
Any other anons have success with something like this? I'm 34 now and know things'll probably just get worse if I don't get back into the habit of routine exercise. I guess PT isn't a bad place to start.

Of course.

>mild knee pain
unless you're in debilitating crippling pain stay away from the doctors. they're looking to make you a customer for life over a little discomfort.

Go to PT but unless you‘ve got money to burn just in making sure somebody‘s checking on you then don‘t go past the third appointment once they‘ve shown you the stretches to do at home

knees aren't something to fuck with, though, and I have a bit of a background in medicine (and worked in a hospital for over 10 years) so I'm not wholly ignorant to how the medical machine works.

I figure at the very least I'll learn some useful exercises to help keep my situation from getting any worse. This is mostly likely due to muscle atrophy from my mainly sedentary lifestyle, so it's not the end of the world. But it *will* get worse if I don't do something about it.

this guy's Knee Ability Zero book is great, OP. Get that, try the exercises. They're easy and don't take a lot of time and don't need much more than a wall to stand against.
You've gotta be willing to walk backwards in public, though.

Yep you probably need some strength exercises. Unless you have something that actually needs surgery or whatever, I'd bet they'll really help. Rehabbing exercises have done wonders for when I had a knee injury. Depends on what you got though.

I've had good results just doing the split squats and seated calf raises. Never tried the full suite of things he talks about. If OP's doc doesn't give you some real exercises to do and instead just gives you some weird stretches, I wouldn't trust him.

Realistically, you could probably just watch youtube tutorials of the physical therapy exercises, and do those at home, and you would save a ton of money.

I'd rather have someone teach me how to do it, desu. Generally speaking I'm pretty neurotic and always have a ton of questions when it comes to something I am uncertain of. Getting live, board certified feedback about my technique just sounds like a good idea.

I won't keep going if I feel like it's something I can handle on my own, but going at least once to get a proper diagnosis and treatment isn't a bad idea.
