Redpill me on aspartame. Is it really as bad as people say it is?

>>76607116
My mom is definitely addicted to this shit. She's been drinking about 2L a day for years and is in very bad health.
>>
>>76607158
Toll paid
>>
>>76607116
Its fine. Ive been drinking 5 only 6 of these per day for 8 months with no adverse side effects. I have been cutting for past 2 months and have lost 25lbs while drinking these so they arent adding calories. I have had my bloodwork tested 3 times for unrelated reasons in that time and all have come back completely normal. Pretty much every study find no link to cancer but people like to say it ruins your gut bacteria and give you cancer and visual abberations all of which are unfounded or based on small studies that have since been debunked. Some people with a genetic disorder could potentially doe if they drank it but thats incredibly rare and you'd know if you had it already.
>>
>>76607163
Dammit, man! You're talking about my Mother!
>>
>>76607164
>5 or 6
God damn man wtf.
>>
>>76607116
I'm on antipsychotic medication and all I know is that this shit fucks my shit up for some reason. All these fake sugars take me to stall city whenever I'm trying to cut. I tried putting Stevia in my coffee and drank Monster Energy Zero and I was stuck at 195 pounds for a couple months. After I stopped drinking that shit I went down to 188 in a month.
>>
>>76607195
I like coke and these dont make you fat. Its a win win
>>
I like to have one with lunch sometimes as a little guilt-free treat :)
>>
Diet Coke is superior
>>
the problem is that it fucks with your insulin levels even though it has zero calories so your body just holds onto everything else and turns it to fat asap. it's pretty much impossible to get fit while drinking any artificial sweetener that isn't stevia/monk fruit/erythritol
>>
>>76607116
After 42 years of hearing eggs going from being the greatest thing since sliced bread to they are going to kill me if I look at one I just don't care anymore. I don't believe anyone knows shit about how our bodies work it's all just guessing. 90% of how you will live and die is based on genetics. If a diet coke helps you not eat that banana split I think it's good enough.
>>
>>76607546
>everything is bullshit
>everyone is lying or retarded
It do be like that. Protip 'on bullshit' is a nice book that solidifies the excremental take.

There's been a ton of studies from every part of the world and nothing shows an even halfway credible link to any negative health outcomes. Even the aspartame allergy that a ton of people love to claim to have hasn't been seen in any studies.

It feels like it's too good to be true, but it isn't. I even went years without drinking any kind of soda despite being a heavy drinker as a child because I didn't trust it, but I started back and it's a gift from the gods. Sparkling water simply can't compare. I look forward to me weekly 40+ hour fasts because I drink a whole 2 liter of zero cal soda during it.
>>
>>76607116
Only if you drink 50 cans or a 2L a day
>>
>>76607803
why do you fast for 40 hours
>>
>>76607815
Because it feels good and, more importantly, allows me to eat to excess on the other days. I basically get to live a fatass 6 days a week without gaining weight. 40 hours sounds dramatic, but it just skipping one day and it easy once you get used to it.
>>
>>76607822
So the answer is because you have bulimia.
>>
>>76607116
just buy zevia, olipop, poppi, slice or some other all natural shit and be free from doubts. it's only $2-3 per can. invest in urself. u are what u eat.
>>
>>76607803
just buy slice, olipop, zevia, poppi or some other shit that taste just as good if not better and 100% natty so you can feel free from any possible doubts. some of these contain prebiotic, probiotic, post biotic or all 3 for some gut fucking goodness.
>>
>>76607154
>>76607505
Unproven. Literally just lies spread by moms on Facebook.

>>76607803
>too good to be true
If you understand how it works, it's obviously not. Artifical sweeteners are molecular compounds that you have more taste receptors for, meaning you need less of it for the same effect as sugar. If you eat a spoonful of it, it has similar calories as sugar, but it takes so little of it to sweeten a coke or whatever that they're allowed to round calories down to zero.
>>
>>76607116
Nah. "Natural" sweeteners based on fructose are much worse for you.
>>
>>76607803
>fast
>drinking soda
not a real fast
glug some water chump
>>
>>76607208
>these fake sugars take me to stall city
Yes, when mio first came out my mom would buy them because they were 0 calorie. Just drinking water with a little squirt of mio in it made me gain weight like crazy. Then I stopped the mio and it went away.

Saying that diet coke causes cancer is like saying salmon will give you mercury poisoning or bananas will give you radiation poisoning. If you knew anything about subjects like this, you'd know that the important part is the dosage
If you were to drink enough diet coke for the aspartame to be remotely harmful, you'd die long before from the amount of water and caffeine intake.
A study showing that rats react negatively to having straight aspartame, like five thousand diet coke cans worth, injected in them just tells you that you shouldn't inject it straight into your veins.
The only things I'd worry about regarding diet coke are kidney stones and tooth health. Having a ton of citric acid makes you more likely to have kidney stones, so make sure you drink a lot of water too, and brush your teeth.
>>76607505
This is literally not true lol
>>
>>76607116
Its not just aspartame, theres other stuff that fuck up your gut microbiome and your gut-brain connection. Whats happening in your gut will affect your brain.

as in not at all? according to 99% of research it is completely fine and non-carcinogenic unless you chug like 15 liters of it a day. this is very much a simple google search and you will see that it is the most studied supplement in human history alongside creatine
>>
>>76608531
>Researchers have uncovered substantial evidence indicating that aspartame consumption is associated with an elevated risk of various cancers, including those affecting the brain, hematopoietic system, digestive tract, and reproductive organs
>Our study concluded that although the aspartame diet did not significantly affect tumor growth, it did induce changes in the composition of the gut microbiota, particularly a decrease in the relative abundance of the Rikenellaceae family. We speculated that gut microbiota could influence the progression of glioblastoma multiforme by gut-brain axis.
Its not a wild claim you're just a lazy piece of shit who can't do any sort of research.

It's addictive cause it's got ~40mg of caffeine per can, and they kind of hide that shit in the ingredient list calling it "aroma" or something.
Try quitting coke and you'll get headaches for a few days from the caffeine withdrawal.
>>
>>76608559
There's a reason you ddimt post the source, and that's because since then there have been more studies that debunk this.

Nice try though.

>Studies have also suggested that aspartame can reduce the transcription of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1 alpha (PGC-1α), thus activating TP53 through metabolic pathways in tumors and promoting hepatocellular carcinoma.

>Beyond this, food additives like aspartame may contribute to central nervous system disorders such as memory impairment.

Enjoy getting cancer and becoming literally retarded. Don't say you weren't warned. As a rule of thumb you should stay away from digesting artificial compounds.

In general it's just annoying, but I agree it's a treat when the latest meme trend comes around and people start spouting absolute nonsense. Like I still can't believe people are taking supplemental doses of blue dye. Like I can't believe people have been meme'd into doing that.
>>
>>76608654
Quoting exactly what was written in the article is nowhere near my claims? I didn't even make any conclusions of my own. Are you really this stupid?
>>
>>76608746
NTA you're arguing with, but here:

>Aspartame Intake Compared to Diet Coke Consumption
>The acceptable daily intake (ADI) of aspartame, as established by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is 50 per text kg of body weight per day. This limit can be used to determine the equivalent number of Diet Coke cans that could be consumed within this safety guideline.
>Calculation of Equivalent Diet Coke Cans
>The amount of aspartame in a standard 12-ounce can of Diet Coke is approximately 188mg.
>To calculate the maximum daily aspartame intake for an individual, the ADI is multiplied by the person's body weight in kilograms. For example, for a person weighing 68kg /150lbs, the maximum daily intake would be calculated as 50mg/kg times 68 kg = 3400mg.
>The number of 12-ounce cans of Diet Coke that can be consumed within this limit is determined by dividing the maximum daily aspartame intake by the amount of aspartame in one can. For a 68kg individual, this would be approx 18 cans.

Broseph, they fed mice the equivalent of 18 ~ 24 cans of soda per day and all they found was a little variance in a couple of gut biome markers. No affect on the tumors that they induced in the mice.

Read your fucking studies before posting them. You look stupid now. You should feel stupid, too. If you had a legitimate argument, it's too late - anything you say from here on is invalidated. You could cure cancer in your next post, and nobody will listen to you because you're already proven to be a fucking moron.
>>
>>76608819
Thats not what the discussion part said. You're a giant retard kys. Enjoy dying of cancer and becoming retarded, looks like you already are.
>>
>>76608819
I'm not either of those anons, but this is a legitimate question. Do you think that when somebody posts/quotes a study, they've actually read like any of it or understand literally any of the scientific terms/claims/figures? People literally just google "XYZ bad" and post random pubmed links depending on what they are arguing.
>>
>>76608896

Imagine unironically choosing overpriced poison over water which is free. Anyone defending aspartame or sweeteners in general is a fat slob that needs to be put down.

Drinking diet soda just makes me irritable and depressed, drinking sugary soda makes me hooped up and after 20 minutes I feel weak.
Maybe I should listen to my body and not touch this stuff.
>>
>>76607116
Anything pregnant women are told to avoid, you should avoid.
Except maybe long haul flights.
>>
>>76608819
A small soda can of cola zero holds 85mg of aspartame the lower end for most sodas, and that excludes any other sweeteners that can have a synergistic effect when combined. 3 cans alone can start causing serious health problems. No wonder people who drink a lot of soda smell like shit and get very light headed. Clearly something is wrong there. You don't need a study to know whats bad for you. Thats like saying smoking isn't bad for you in the 50s because well there is no study or conclusive evidence to prove it. I'd much rather be safe than sorry and save a bunch of money at the same time.
>>
>>76608989
It doesn't say those things because you didn't read the study. You just copied and pasted some text from a link that you googled.
>>
>>76609020
God I love batshit claims with 0 sources made by people who were just proven wrong
Give it up lil bro, the caffeine in diet coke is a bigger concern than the aspartame
>>
>>76609029
Please provide your sources that say around 70 milligrams of caffeine is detrimental to somebody's health.

Thanks, I'll wait.
>>
>>76609011
Yeah, we should avoid stairs and lifting weights because those are totally detrimental to the average population.
>>
>>76609034
Neither the caffeine content nor aspartame content in diet coke is dangerous lol. Also, asking for sources when you have provided none is really funny
>>
>>76609040
Nice straw man, that's not what I said, (but you knew that). So are you going to provide sources that 70 milligrams is detrimental or what
>>
>>76609011
So true sister I just threw out my creatine and pre workout because pregnant women are told to avoid it
>>
>>76609046

>>76607116
Studies show no, but even if it is bad for you, it's not nearly as bad as being obese. Like yes you should be a saint and no have any vices but if you're going to have one, diet sodas are pretty low tier compared to a lot of what else you could be consuming.
>>
>>76607505
That's not how insulin works. Yes, you get a trivially small amount of insulin whenever you taste sweet as a pavlovian response, but well over 99% of your insulin is produced due to the presence of sugar in your bloodstream. No sugar, no insulin. It's why keto works so well.

>>76608896
Almost never, especially in these Artificial sweetener threads, which is hilarious because then you get people quoting studies that actively discredit their point. Like this jackass >>76608559, >>76608746 saying aspartame causes cancer then quoting a study that found no link.

>>76609068
The study very specifically states water dosed at 50mg/kg, which is the ADI for aspartame. Learn to read.

A study with a majority of the population that you're testing is over the age of 60 is not credible as a test for something causing Alzheimer's. That's like saying or going to test hockey players for the incidence rate of breaking limbs and then apply it to people who play hopscotch.
>>
it dehydrates the fuck out of me.

The people who spent decades suppressing research studies that pointed out drinking 100's of grams of sugar a day was bad for you and now are doing the same for sugar replacment chemicals are definitely looking out for your health.
