Is this the worst exercise in existence? I can't think of anything else.
Yeah smith machines are atrocious, people spam them then wonder why they're stuck in newb gainz forever
>>76608058Me neither, but make it an incline, and it's the best exercise ever
>>76608058arnold presshits all 3 delts ineffectively with minimal load
>>76608123Any free weight exercise is fundamentally better than OP's.
>>76608058I absolutely despise it (regular bench press, not smith machine)
>>76608058Yes because of the smithWhy are zoombabies so scared of bench?
>>76608058>>76608061What are smith machines actually for?
>>76608058It's definitely up there... now, if the bar path was slanted then it would be a different story... but still a pussy's exercise.
>>76609727safer to spam multiple sets to failure without being limited by form, balance, fatigue
>>76609727to allow you to push the actual muscle you're training for to failure instead of having to bail because your stabilizers failed before
>>76609766you can do the same with inclinejust rack in front of you
>>76609723why? Can't bench 2pl8 lmao
>>76608058I used to be against the smith machine but now as a more experienced lifter I would say they're kinda nice. Would never buy one but if there is one I'm gonna use it sometimes.
>>76609727For locking your shoulders into an unnatural resistance pattern so you can tear them from the socket
>>76609727Big ass delts? You should heavy work on machines and shit then 100% the barbell at the end of the lifting week shits kinda sick.
>>76608058Or just use your palms on machines to mimic the grip of whatever, like i usually prefer quasi thumb grip to push with knuckles and twist in for inner chest, and thumbless closer to stomach for wider/upper on flatback.
>>76608058Machines are good for working around injuries and bodybuilding style training, light weights for 15-20 reps, which just happens to be useless for natties.Real strenght is built with free weights
There are worse exercises, like deadlift and powersharting. Deadlift damages your spine, this exercise doesn't.
>>76608123No it doesn't lol. It only hits the front delts like every other press. You are just rotating your shoulder without resistance while doing the press. The only muscle experiencing load is the front delt
>>76611971>It only hits the front delts like every other presshttps://exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidAnterior/DBShoulderPress.https://exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidAnterior/DBOneArmShoulderPresshttps://exrx.net/WeightExercises/DeltoidLateral/DBLateralRaiseThey say these exercises train front and side part of deltoid.
>>76608061>>76608058Smith machines are the bell curve meme where total DYELs and complete gigachads use them
>>76611964Deadlifts are actually great at strengthening your back if you have correct form and appropriate loading, which most people don't
In my opinion the only true "machine" that's as good as a free weight counterpart is the seated row machine (the one with the pad in your chest, not cable). In general all cable machines are good and free weights are best.HOWEVER, all machines are good if it's towards the end of your session and you're getting tired; it's far better to use any machine Vs twinging a tired stabilisation muscle using free weights.
>>76612163Any overhead press will hit side delts as well, especially with dumbbells. Arnold press simply gives you a little more ROM and is more comfortable for some people
>>76609727Free weights are better for real life scenarios, if you're constantly using different equipment, or you have limited space since you can literally hit everything with a barbell.Smith still hits the muscles you're looking at working though and zones in on them for you, it just doesn't work your stabilizer muscles.
>>76609724all zooms do is hog the bench and the lat pulldown. do you live under a rock?
>>76608061The fucking hydraulics make it so its way lighter at the beginning of rom at light weight but heavy weight is still hard to get off the bottom. Still kinda sick for getting an overall pump but you might as well just spam sets after getting the target fibers as just machines will fill you out but not advance strength/aesthetics.
>>76612932Do you even know how much. Etter you have to be at lifting for freeweights only to get you huge asap? I was working on machines/cables 60% for months until i got any size, my bench was stalling and i had 0 chest and obviously everything else was stalling since its easy as shit to get huge anything but chest delts.
>>76612999>The fucking hydraulicsHuh? How does a smith machine use hydraulics kek
>>76608058Bench, even bench in a smith is a solidly upper mid exercise, low upper even for incline. The worst exercise is when people do side bends with a weight in each hand. I don't know why I always see this. It's a decent exercise with one weight, but I'd rather do Russian twists.
>>76608058Smith bench gets a bad rap because 99.99% of users don't set the safeties. The Smith machine is great at isolating muscle groups but morons refuse to use the safeties because their not cool.
barbell rows are the worst exercise
>>76614096Maybe for u
>>76608058used to have a bad habit on my bench where i pressed the left side faster. Smith machine fixed that.
>>76614097when your mid back gets sufficiently strong the kind of weight you need to use on rows will injure your lower back sooner or later...
>>76614113You dont deadlift?
>>76613008>I was working on machines/cables 60% for months until i got any sizeThat's gonna be a variety of issues, most of which aren't even related to the gym.Size comes from calories, muscles come from the gym.Honestly? the very notion that machines are useless is a little silly at the very edge of things I'm sure free weights will squeeze out a bit more than a machine will but the entire point is just progressive overload. If you can do a 1RM at 30kg on the converging chest press then a month later you're hitting 35kg your muscles are obviously getting stronger and thus bigger.
>>76612999>machines will fill you out but not advance strength/aesthetics.you science faggots are unbelievable lmao. I fucking dare you to do 1 machine only for a few months and tell me it hasn't grown the muscle you're targeting
>>76614750Science faggots are the ones who advocate the most for machines, stop well poisoning
>>76608058Have you heard of planks?
>>76614757hardly. Normal people (non science faggots) don't care about such things
>>76609727I used a Smith machine while recovering from a shoulder impingement that limited movement. It was nice because I could keep about 80% of my original weight without concern for accidentally over-rotating
>>76615012What is wrong about planks?
Smith machines are utterly garbage for this kind of exercise. This actually raises a good point as to why so many make zilch fitness gains using them.
>>76609932I'm nowhere near 2pl8, I'm at 82.5kg which is what, 180lbs? That's even less than my weight.
>>76615054But... The squat? The incline bench?
>>76615054>>76616615Wait disregard this post I read your post as "any kind of exercise"
>>76615054Yep. Both of my shoulders are tweaked from the shit. I am just a fulltime Machine and dumbbell fag now. Pretty sure this how jay cutler and lots of successful lifters did it so it’s okay
