ive never owned a car in my 33 years of life. only driven one a handful of times like 6-7 years ago when i got my license and that was it. my bike is my only source of transportation, and ill use it in conjunction with the subway and the occasional carpool

this is what happens when you're a completely autistic loser who has never had a family or social life to need a car for. every day i pray to get obliterated from behind by a car and die instantly to free me from this hellish existence.

there are times where ill ride my bike because otherwise i would be sitting in my room doing nothing. it is nice to be outside, but at the same time, when im riding, im just seeing how everyone is out with their friends and families whle im the lone autist bicycling around town alone with no real purpose or goal to it other than that i would be sitting in my room if i wasnt doing it, and i get depressed anyway

Context is everything desu. I work a 15-20 min ride from home through a very chill part of town near the university. Summer months are amazing with all the sun, gorgeous girls showing off their tits and arses everywhere, no real chance for lunatics on the road to pancake me. Even pass through a field of cows. Very test-boosting bit of cardio, good for the soul desu. It's probably a lot different to proper inner city riding.

We have a car, which I'll use if the wife isn't just so I don't forget how to drive, but I'd never get a second one just to cut out a very short commute. If traffic is shit then the car takes longer anyways.

How am i supposed to fuck bitches on top of a bike? My minivan seems like a superior choice. Also, where i live, cyclist and electric scooter people are seen as poor faggots, my van is 20 something years old but it has that "badass old car" aura, also bitches dont put objections when the alternative is walking or taking the bus full of niggers, only the brainrotted delusional whores care about how fancy your car is, most of them cant even afford the license, much less a fucking BMW, so they usually shut the fuck up about it.

Well for now were in an interim where scientists are trying to make everything as miserable as and subscription based as possible but you can still buy a reliable pre 2014 ICE car to meet your needs in most places. They're still necessary for the majority of people anyway considering the genius scientific city planners of the late 20th and early 21st century. But regardless of that you're not going to be hauling lumber on your bicycle for example, I know that people who self identify as cyclists are like hamsters on their jewish daycare wheel and they don't really do anything like buy lumber or other material but some people still do and a bicycle wont cover it

Lmao I work from home and don't go anywhere, I only have a car because I think they're neat, she sits in my driveway 99.9% of the time depreciating but when work or women piss me off I have this turn i keep trying to take at higher speeds without flipping, it's not super sharp but I'm real close to taking the bitch at 80mph, (white people) music blasting, worth the cost imo
And yeah it's a fucking Mazda3, I've had Audis, Mercedes, Acuras, had a six cylinder accord which was ace (rip), multiple RSXs, but I wanted something reliable and nice and I'm really happy with her, can't justify prices on used Hondas anymore and euro cars can suck a fat dick. My little girl is fully loaded, fighter jet style motorized HUD screen that flips up from the dash, adaptive headlights, premium audio, genuine leather on the wheel and seats, paddle shifters, the 2.5l is pretty impressive, 7 seconds flat for an NA 4 cylinder, not arguing she's fast but for Mazda are wizards for getting that out of an engine like that, you can see Nissan do the same displacement engine losing a whole second on theirs

you're joking but
kids absolutely love bicycle tours for vacation

depending on the age, you do 30-60km/day
if they're old enough to help set up camp, camping is viable
otherwise hotels
along popular routes on rivers like Rhine, Danube, Loire there are even hotels specializing on this
you stop on interesting cities, castles and sights along the way and do a rest day every few days
like somewhere around ~5h/day actually on the bike is viable for 12yo

we've done this every summer since 2020
and it's literally the favorite vacation of my kids

Cars do have a place but the fact they got so ubiquitous in cities is simply baffling if you think about it. For better or worse we live in a globalised world and we should have access to everything we need in the 10Km around us tops, unless you live in the countryside of course, in which case you would absolutely need a truck or car.

ligther motorcycles are specifically made for that situation, you will be way quicker than a car or a bicycle. Motorcycles are more stable when going between cars because they are heavier and you don't have to pedal.

I'm from Europe, now that I think about it, american roads are way wider and they usually have a bike lane in the shoulder. In Europe it's the rural zones and newer cities the places with bike lanes on the road, big cities are old as fuck and the streets are very narrow, so most of the time you can't put a dedicated bike lane there.

>>
>>76614832

>>
>>76614809
Doing groceries on a bike is a bit shit though, it takes too long (40 min roundtrip for me) and unless you want to go more multiple times per week it's annoying to cycle with 20 kg of extra weight. You have to balance the front and back, left and right, and even then the bike tries to tip over when you turn.
Other than that you either have to cycle on the road (the quality of road surface is horrible here and cars do stupid things) or the footpath (not much better surface and pedestrians are in the way) as there are virtually no segregated cycle lanes. In many places there's not even a line on the road. I've lost a tire to broken glass before and narrowly avoided it multiple other times. And then there's always the chance you park your bike for 20 mins and come back to find it's been stolen.
If governments want people to cycle they need to get serious about building the infrastructure. I more or less gave up on cycling because of these issues.
>>
>>76614838
i meant 10 minutes away by walking* apologies. so, i stayed in one of those planned communities when i was in florida and i was told it was completely normal to drive to the nearby stores and restaurants that were only a 10-15 minute walk away which is unfathomable to me as a scandi.
>>
>>76614840

2)weave onto the sidewalk if you really do get blocked by some retard
ezpz
And yeah I really don't think I've ever seen a cyclist riding in between cars rather than on the side.
>>
>>76614838
that's why you take the bicycle

typical speeds in cities are around ~20kmh
in rush hour, that can go even lower
also you got to include the time it takes to find a parking spot

in most well build / designed cities in central / western Europe
distances for bikes / by foot are typical more direct and shorter
a 10min car ride from door to door shouldn't take longer than 15min by bike

not only the difference negligible but you also get a free workout / warmup
cars are the least /fit/ mode of transport
>>
>>76614829
>i learned that americans even drive to places that are 10 minutes away
sadly you don't even have to go to the US for this

I have neighbors (in Germany) that take their shitty leased car out of the underground car park to go to the bakery literally 5min by foot
the drive needs twice as long than just walking
they're just fat, lazy and retarded

and if you talk to them
they're proud for paying like ~700€/month for their shitty car
and he tell with enthusiasm how he saved 2cents per liter diesel last week by driving >20km
>>
>>76614579
bike trips are unironically based yeah but sometimes you just want to go to the airport or spend a day on the beach (closest to me is 160km). Also the viability of a bike trip with kids depends a lot on the quality of the infrastructures available
>>
>>76614785
>ligther motorcycles are specifically, etc

>>
I drive a bicycle in a city because it's simply faster. My daily commute is about 15-20 minutes total both ways. I don't have to waste time looking for parking space, can skip traffic entirely and even some red lights by weaving onto the sidewalk.
>>
>>76614846
>it's annoying to cycle with 20 kg of extra weight
Ever seen a fatass cycle? They're probably carrying even more extra weight than that.

I agree it does make the bike much less responsive but you get used to it quick in my experience. I wouldn't want to drive a loaded bike hands off but other than that it's fine.

>>
>>76614874
>but sometimes you just want to go to the airport or spend a day on the beach
this won't be a popular take on 4chan because muh you will own nothing
but carsharing is unironically great for this

always get the right car for the job (e.g. transporter / truck for hardware store runs / getting fire wood, family van for vacation, convertible for weekend trip with wife)
it's cheaper than owning (for moderate use) and I don't have to think about maintenance, insurance and all the other stupid stuff

of course if you drive every week multiple time it doesn't make sense
or if you don't have a car sharing station nearby (which are ubiquitous in my region)
but people really underestimate the total cost of ownership of a car

>viability of a bike trip with kids depends a lot on the quality of the infrastructures available
like what?
i've done this in multiple european countries and it was always great
just gotta search for a nice / viable route before
>>
>>76614865
>typical speeds in cities are around ~20kmh

Yeah but I'm not in a city, so typical speed is like 30mph in the suburb, 40-50 on state roads, 60-80 highway.
Endless parking lots.
>>
>>76614893
>Ever seen a fatass cycle? They're probably carrying even more extra weight than that.
It's not the weight itself but the distribution. If you load the front it makes steering harder, if you load the back it makes accelerating harder, and if you load off-centre (side bags) it makes the bike tippy. Even if you get it all even it still does because you have to tilt the bike to turn so you have all the weight pulling/pushing the bike further to the side you're turning.

>I agree it does make the bike much less responsive but you get used to it quick in my experience
It was just frustrating to me. Maybe it would bother me less if we had decent infrastructure and weather here.

My brother in law is Slovanian and my younger sister lives with him in Slovania. His take on the US after living here for a year is something to the effect of "Americans have big wallets, big jobs, big houses, big yards, big cars and big dreams" and he said that with a hint of contempt to me. I had no clue why he would think any of that was a bad thing. I just spent a year touring mostly western and a small amount of eastern Europe. My take is exactly the opposite of his towards Euros and with a larger amount of contempt.

>no one tries to take your car, country bum
I never said they were, they just try to tax fuel to rhe point of them being unusable.
>you can suck daddy big oil as long as you want
As soon as you faggots make anything that is able to do what I need out here for cheaper I will happily swap over

I know, you're actual hive city bugmen.

Ouch yeah the burbs are actually worse than city people.

I live in the corn fields. There is no gym within a 30 minute drive of me so I built my own. Groceries are a weekly event because its a 40 minute round trip every time, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

The only part of this that’s accurate is “big cars”, and it’s big cars they don’t need

Newer cars do a lot to piss me off, mine pictured is a 2018 GT, so last year of the prior generation. I had the opportunity to test drive a newer one that was a lower trim so I won't get into direct comparisons anywhere but the engine and space. The interior is cramped as fuck comparatively in the newer ones. The hatchback is uglier. The sedan is a bit uglier too imo. Exterior we're talking. The 2.5 in the new models felt more sluggish. Now, the new models you can get the 2.5 with a turbo and that's likely nice, I haven't driven one, can't do that on my gen unless you go aftermarket. I had the chance to buy either my 2018 or a 2023 both with about the same mileage and the price would have been maybe $500 more for the newer one, and I made my pick in full confidence. Pretty girl only had 30k miles when I nabbed her, one owner, garage kept, fully loaded, and I work from home so she's not far beyond that mileage now six months later.

If there’s anything else to look at as to how big of a loser I am, it’s being an American in his 30s who’s never owned a car, and has only driven one a few times (and never alone, only with a driving instructor). I mean of course I’m a loser in every other part of my life as well, but if there’s really one thing to look at, it has to be that. I do have a road bike and for a number of years now I average around 3,000 miles a year on it. But yeah, being in a country where driving a car is pretty much required to have any sort of independent life and you’ve gone over 30 years without having one is an exclamation point on how much of a loser you are.

I don’t even know why I’m like this. I do have a few outdoor social hobbies I do, and for the most part I’m able to successfully do them because I can use my bike and the subway system (I’m in one of the few areas of the US with a decent one) to get to them, or the occasional carpool with other participants, but not having a car limits my opportunities with this hobby as well. I know how pathetic it is to not own a car or even be able to drive (I got my license 7 years ago but even if it was an emergency right now I wouldn’t know what to do behind the wheel) but I don’t know, it just seems so pointless. It isn’t like if I got a car suddenly I would become some happy normal person, getting my own place, meeting women, making friends, getting some big bustling career, etc. I would still be the same ultra loser, except I would now just have a vehicle that I take out a few times a week but have the added burden and expense of everything that comes with car ownership.

They can bike, you can bike, you're at parity with the beasts. How do you escape? How do you pack your shit up and move? Do you bike two blocks over and make a hundred trips? They'll still break in and rob you and rape your wife at night, it's what they're designed to do by satan. Until you answer this I cannot accept your vision

If you get panniers then they are built to distribute the weight lower, which actually improves the balance.

Road cycling is an endurance sport. The difficulty isn't in just riding around for a little bit, it's maintaining a fast pace over longer distances.

your opinion reflects that of someone with minimal to no responsibility. bicycling as the only means of transportation is unrealistic in the overwhelming vast majority of situations. this is a fact not an argument.

i do both and id say most mountain bikers are good sprinters and can out climb casual road bikers on any climb under a mile. but not a single one can maintain a cadence for even a short amount of time. and to my surprise, mountain bike riders have bigger egos and will hate on gravel, ebikes, roadbikes etc.
