> built his body using traditional training methods> didn't switch to hit until late in his career and even then got called out for still using high volume by other >bodybuilders who watched him train> never once practiced what he preached> not one pro bodybuilder has ever built his body using these methodsWhy should I listen to him again?
he switched because he got beaten by Casey Viator

>>76610615>Completely ignoring the guy who actually did make himself into an Olympia winner using HIT methodsWhy do every single one of you retard volume bros zero in on this guy when Yates is living proof the idea of training to failure once a week get results?
>>76610653Sorry (you), you mean the guy who built his body using traditional methods and didn't switch to high intensity until after he had won his first olympia? And then proceeded to get so severely injured that he looked like shit on his last couple shows? Try again
John Heart, long time student of mentzer >Mr America overall winner 2013>2x Light Heavyweight Mr America 2012 & 2013>Natural Mr Universe (Tall) 2001
>>76610653>>76610659>Look up Heart's diet>It's "modified" carnivore>He's actually still swole and not deadI would not say he did *exactly* what Mentzer did, kek.
>>76610659Yeah, and it took him well beyond what he was capable of otherwise. He himself said his issue was a complete refusal to slow down or deload during his contest prep cutting cycle hence the injury. Pretty much everything we know points to High Intensity low volume being king for natties. High volume retarded arnie shit is what makes your body self destruct as a natty and really only works for roid monkeys. Spare me the retarded volume studies, Lyle already shredded that shit ages ago.
>>76610688>Everything we knowLiterally nothing points to this style of training being good for natties or anyone else
>>76610615>Why should I listen to him again?Because he looks like this, and you look like you.
>>76610716>He looks like thisFrom volume training
Both good, just go lift/thread
>>76610653Yates did sets but called the first two warm up sets and the last one working lmao>>76610615Mentzer im pretty sure was just seething at arnold, so created an entire theory about doing the opposite of arnold
The thing mike and yates and cutler fanboys dont get is that they trained hard with +85% of their 1rm and progressively overloaded, nothing like the meme modern way of spamming 40lb dumbbells
He didn't really continue doing high volume LATE in his career. His training partners and those around him confirmed that he trained by HIT principles (later in his career) but then he got more and more extreme and reduced volume and frequency to a point that no one wanted to train like him anymore, because a) they actually enjoyed going to the gym, and b) they knew it wasn't working.
>>76610615People who worship this guy are mentally ill lazy bums who just don't want to put any effort into workouts but still want a great body. The entire point of the training he promoted is that at a certain point in your bodybuilding career it's no longer reasonable to expect much growth and it's better to let the steroids do the heavy lifting and simply avoid injuries. If you look like Mentzer it's better to keep taking steroids and slow down on the training. You'll still gain size, but if you start training like a maniac you may hurt yourself and it may lead to injuries that last months or your entire life and that will hurt your gains. It makes sense but it's also confirmation bias. He takes roids and he trains like this and woah look at that, I am gaining muscle, my training method must work.
>>76611418That wasn't really his philosophy, though. His idea was to put everything he had into "one" set for an exercise, and make it so intense that (in his mind) his body would need days to recover from it. Since he also did very little warmup and then quickly went into extremely high intensity lifts, the risk of injury was actually much higher.
>>76611465If you can go fucking crazy in the gym and you have a gym partner that can push you beyond failure then yeah, the sets are going to produce a lot more stimulus to the point you might just need one set per exercise. Also the extra long recovery window between gym sessions is going to let you push even harder. For most of us though just doing an extra set or two is more practical and less injury prone.
Typical Mentard evolution>try bodybuilding>wow, this is hard>find Mentzer>oh golly, just one set!>see numbers go up first two weeks because it's just one set and novel stimulus>post on Mongolian basket weaving forums that you're doing HIT and gains are skyrocketing>three weeks, "gains" stall>back slide on progress>6 weeks and beyond: quit or go back to methods that work, pretend you never did HIT
>>76610661Dude didn't train like mentzer preached leading up to his peak.
>>76611668Also dubious that he built his mass that way, since he didn't start training with menser until he was already an established bodybuilder. Also dubious now because he has a vested interest in his brand aligning with Mentzer's. Again comes back to the fact that simply no one trains this way to actually build muscle. If it worked you would see everyone doing it.
>>76611681he also looks nothing like he did at his peak, arms look completely atrophied.
>>76610688It didn't. He also is well known to have greatly upped dosages between 91 and 92 and started fucking around with insulin, HGH and other compounds. Gee, I wonder why he got bigger. Had to have been HIT. Definitely that
