Not even posting to make myself feel better, I am also still a beginner 6 months into it. However, I have noticed that the numbers that are considered normal on /fit/ are very rare for me to see. Like I never saw someone squat 2pl8s, rarely see someone bench 2pl8s and never saw someone deadlift over 3pl8s. 1pl8 OHP is more common but then again it's almost always a tall roider. What is happening?
>>76619128Most people don't go to the gym to become jacked, they do it for the health benefits. /fit/, like any other forum, gathers people that really enjoy the thing in question, so obviously they are gonna be bigger and better
>anonymous forum posters are lying until proven otherwisegreetings from Mumbai saar
>>76619135>they do it for the health benefitsBut why wouldn't they still get stronger? Like if I squat twice a week and increase the weight over time then I'll hit 2pl8s in like a year no matter what.
>>76619128People lie on the internet. A lot.
>>76619157Some people just don't want to overexert themselves. And doing squats with more than your body weight is impressive in and off itself
>>76619128There's a lot of diminishing returns on strength. There's a fact that /fit/ hates and it's that you only need to be so strong. You don't need to do very much at all to get good health and wellbeing.
>>76619128I am convinced, and know this from my own experience having "coached" (I gave people I knew just the list of stuff I train and sometimes go to the gym with them) several people, by sheer statistics most of them are average, that most people, as long as they are adult males, easily can bench 2pl8s for at least 5 reps given a 4 year time frame. Most however fuck around in the gym and don't progress, so they are forever weak in pure bodily strength, doesn't mean they are genetically weak and can't become very strong, but if you go to the gym and fuck around with baby weight and treat it like a meeting hub, you obviously don't progress.
>>76619195I used to squat and deadlift 240 kg for repsThis fucked my back up (didn't have to go under the knive tho, it healed naturally)So for 2 years now, I only do RDL and hexbar Squats, my size didn't really went down, but I couldn't move the weight I used to in 2023, obviously, for one I am 30 kg lighter (due to being natural, it was mostly fat) and the other is that there is no point in doing barbell squats and deadlifts, there are dozens of alternatives safe for your back that train the exact same musles.
>>76619128They wont do/dont do a basic barbell training like Starting Strength, or Greyskull, or Madcow or the several other really good programs.Everybody thinks they can "get buff" by doing the machines and exercises that "target" their favorite muscles. This does not work. At all. for anybody.Other than hours of endless cardio - which does have some value - the only reason anyone whould go to the gym as a newbie is to use the barbells and weights to get as storng as possible. Once youre an intermediate type lifter, drifto off into other more specilsied endeavors, whatever they might be. But EVERYONE needs to just get as strong as they can doing a basic barbell program, linearly progressed. But no. You know better. So they stay weak as piss.
>>76619237I recently switched from doing romanian dumbbell deadlifts (without knowing how it was romanian) to doing smith machine deadlifts. Mostly because my grip strength was limiting the weight of dummbells I could hold with good form. Had to look up the difference. I've been working on the logic that I don't need to pick it up off the floor and just lower it down until I feel the back of my quads get engaged.Glad to see I've kept up the romanians. I've been really pleased with the progress.WAGMI
>>76619128>so this is the guy who can't squ-ACK (location goes out of business)t. 345x4
>>76619128half of /fit/ doesn't even lift. I'd say 45% of the remainder lifts well below what they claim. there is a small percentage of very strong individuals.
>>76619272all are trash programs for fags that only learn about fitness from reddit and 4chan i hate fat powershitters and barbell fagsthis is my body and i never touch barbells
>>76619128that's because powerlifter standards dominated internet fitness culture in the 2010s but normies mostly stuck to magazine-type workouts like bro splits and isolation. I rarely see people squatting or deadlifting heavy in a commercial gym, but I see a lot of super jacked guys doing c ables and dumbbells
>>76619128I go to a normie commercial gym and a guy was squatting 4 plates today, probably the most impressive thing I’ve seen in the few months I’ve been going. Can’t remember if I’ve seen any 3 plate benches. Nobody deadlifts.
>>76619135>le durrrThey'd be a lot healthier if they got strong instead of dicking around on machines and dumbbells to no effect
>>76619128Your average normgroid gym goer is there to “tone” or “feel the burn” or some other stupid shit, doesn’t follow any diet, doesn’t progressively overload, and doesn’t enjoy going to failure. Watch a random sampling of them for awhile and you’ll also notice they do absolute bullshit workouts with exercises that don’t make any sense or follow no logic.
>>76620131Based mutt skinOnly retards think barbells are mandatory.
>>76619128Most people are not into gym culture and just use it to keep a medium fit lifeThey're not really that rigid with their diets or workouts.
>>76619157Only if you're in a diet and if you actually try to progress weights
>>76619272>Everybody thinks they can "get buff" by doing the machines and exercises that "target" their favorite muscles. This does not work. At all. for anybody. It does thoOnly thing that matters is the intensity
the average gym goer's program is like 10 sets of 10 rows with baby weight in the squat rack then 10 sets of 10 chest machine press with baby weight with 5 minute rest talking to their friends between each set
>>76619128Most gym-goers just want to be fit and strong enough for basic human functions like walking and playing with their kids. They also know fuck all about anything and are even less interesting in trying to know shit because the concept of effort is alien to the ape born into a world of modern conveniences.
>>76619128>>76619135Most people who have a membership don't even go to the gym most of the time.
>>76619128If you quarter repped 225 once with a handoff, online you bench 315 because you "know" you can do it next year.
>>76620503>I see a lot of super jacked guys doing c ables and dumbbellsThose people are on roidsEver notice how the people doing chest supported cable curls are either ludicrously dyel or have veins popping out of their swollem delts?
>>766191284chan is full of people who love lifting and have been doing it for a long time, and larpers who are playing pretend about how much they can lift. Numbers posted on this site tend to be pretty high.(your) local gym is full of people who have no clue they're doing and people who don't have the consistency to make meaningful improvement. They look around and see what everyone else is lifting and assume they're doing OK. Numbers in real life tend to be pretty low. If you want some real deep insight to how fucked people are, book a session with a personal trainer. If you're intermediate already have your friend take a session and have him share the info and routine shared with him by the trainer. Most people, if they start out and are really serious, will probably go to a PT to figure out what to do.
>>76621355Forgot to add, I have heard the phrase 'progressive overload' one time in my life, from a guy who was on Stronglifts.Somehow, basic ideas like this are not common knowledge among gym normies.
>>76619128No one tries hard enough, i've barely ever seen anyone go to failure in 8 months of going to the gym, never seen anyone lift more than they did 2 months ago, never seen anyone literally exhausted and huffing and puffing and sweating. The only people i know who are regular gym goers go in the evening and are sports guys i used to know before college or highschool, they're the only ones who push themselves. I am a morning gym goer and i've never seen someone go consistently for 2+ months. The only people i see on a semi-respectable basis are 3 older women who hoard the elliptical cardio thing and lat pulldown.Maybe i'm biased due to my schedule and all the 3pl8s go during evenings, but even during rush hour i almost never see anyone training at any capacity.I guess most people dont really take it seriously or have the autistic absolutism and fixation that gymcelling requires
>>76621374>3 older women who hoard the elliptical cardio thingOk makes sense>and lat pulldown. Whuh? Why that machine specifically
At what bench and squat weight is minimum to start posting on social media? I just posted a set of my squats at 80kg for 10 reps and my 2pl8 bench for 6 reps. Is this embarrassing?
>>76621503No idea, we have another stack facing it with two attachements/pulleys for whatever reason that act as weird single hand cable row and normal cable row at once, one of them just grabs both handles on each hand and start swinging back and forth one side at the time as if it's a one side rowing machine I was doing dumbbell incline press the other day and she got a chair behind me and started doing it too, i guess she saw some sperg do it once and thought it was a fun exercise
>>76621374What pussy as gym do you go to? I bench 100kg at 75kg bw and I’m the weakest male in my gym. (Dyels not included)
>>76621532Congrats on being the weakest person on your gym i guess, that's a very impressive feat
>>76621503>Why that machine specificallyI know why. If you put 15-30 pounds on it it almost balances your arm weight, and you can pretend you're lifting. The only thing that comes close to how easy it is is leg extension, and they do that too here.
