Been doing barbell bench press for around 6 months without much improvement on my chest, hit a plateau for a month then decided to switch to dumbbell. Oh lord, my chest has exploded for the last 2 months doing dumbbells. It's absolutely retarded to keep doing barbell when the superior lift exists. It also makes no sense as a chest exercise since the chest contracts outwards to inwards, by having your range of motion stuck in a vertical line upwards, you're skipping like half the range of motion of the chest muscle.
>How much you bench bro?
Literally no one cares how much you bench, only fatty retarded powershartters care about it. A big muscle will have big strength. A full range of motion will make you stronger than a retarded powershartting partial range of motion lift.
>>
Objectively correct but pec flies are better than DB bench for hypertrophy. Bench sucks for hypertrophy unless you have t-rex arms

>Literally no one cares how much you bench, only fatty retarded powershartters care about it
that's a cope, it's the most important lift to everyone including normies, when someone asks "how much do you lift" they mean bench press
>>
>>76626681
>including normies
Not my fault they don't know face pulls are far more important.
>>
>>76626678
Flies are a shit exercise with a dumb resistance curve that rapes your shoulder joint. Pec deck or converging chest press machine are far superior.
>>
>>76626687
They're great, just stand slightly behind the cable stack so your upper arms dont start behind your torso.
>>
>>76626697
I thought you meant DB flyes
>>
>>76626681
Are there really people that go around asking others how much they lift ? From my experience lifting is such a boring topic that even people who train don't really talk about it.
>>
>>76626681
Yeah that's why I just lie. They have no idea what a good bench press is.
"About three fiddy"
And they nod and say wow
They are asking cause you're jacked, doesn't mean I have to bench lel

>>76626687
Even the prime pec dec is dog shit, I can full stack it no problem for like 10 reps and chest is my weakest body part. There are some good chest press machines tho

>>76626697
>stand slightly behind the cable stack

Wut
>>
>>76626664
The whole area from front of shoulders to nips got bigger with heavy bench than anything else.
>>
>>76626664
>Been doing barbell bench press for around 6 months without much improvement on my chest, hit a plateau for a month
If you hit a plateau with 6 months you’re doing it wrong. Unless you were already benching 3pl, were you?

Stand in the middle with your body slightly behind the cable handles so your upper arms are in line with your torso while your arms hold the cables at the starting position. Just trust me on this.
>>
>>76626732
Thanks anon I will try it tomorrow I never do these cause they feel weird good looking out

>>76626720
Thats from the excess calories

>>76626729
Some people just suck at benching me included, the most I've ever benched is 225 for 4 even though I can do weighted dips with 3 plates and incline dumbbell press the 120s
>>
Don't care, still gonna bench press
>>
>>76626664
cope + nocebo + placebo + delusion

barbell bench press is superior to the dumbbell bench press

Explain this. Dumbbell press fully contracts your chest since you're not stuck in a stupid vertical range of motion. Bench press skips half the contraction. You only bench press cause "muh big numbers" so you can talk about it with your homo powershitting gym friends
>>
>>76626745
>Thats from the excess calories
You know you're right about that, since you can't build muscle out of thin pissing air. Asshole.
>>
>>76626664
uh oh
someone didn't play football in their youth and now they're regretting it
sad
>>
>>76626664
Start with low weight and work where youre the weakest? I was unable to painlessly do 185 reverse grip while my 1rm was about 315 for a while.
>>
>>76626767
>You only bench press cause "muh big numbers"
What big number is your bench
>>
>>76626687
>Flies are a shit exercise with a dumb resistance curve that rapes your shoulder joint
You’re probably doing them wrong. Pull your shoulders back, arch your back, and expose your chest like when you’re benching. The resistance curve is very similar for both flies and db bench. Gravity points downward. You’re just stretching more with flies and using one pair of muscles instead of three pairs to move the weight. DB benching 60lb dbs is equivalent to flying 10-20lb dbs depending on how you normally bench(pec, tri, or shoulder dominant) and how long your arms are(longer arms are longer levers, and longer levers put fulcrums under more tension). Flies treat your arms as breaker bars and your pecs as rusty bolts. You can’t ego lift when doing something that mechanically inefficient.
>>
>>76626783
I'm not a faggot, so I don't bench
>>
>>76626664
What detriments exactly are there to benching heavy? It makes you slower and still not hit hard?

I can punch lik 2x as fast now with muscle and my arms/shoulders are more defined even with hypertrophy. You arent exactly getting lifting advice from lifting bruce lee dude get a life.
>>
Can you bench using two bars to combine the benefits of both?
>>
>>76626800
So how much you dumbbell press?
>>
>>76626825
Yes. You one bar on each hand with weights on its side. It's called a dumbbell brench press.
>>
>>76626827
I'm a faggot, so I don't know
>>
>>76626827
>How much you bench bro?
Read op again.
>>
>>76626664
Sure, maybe, but I just like benching and hate dumbbell bench. My chest got plenty big on my way to 3 plates
>>
>>76626827
75s for 5+ fatigued like 6mo ago? My delts are way bigger now though.
>>
>>76626906
Is that flat or incline? It's weak on incline and abysmal if flat..
>>
>>76626712
Ummm
Where are you right now?
What are you doing?
What are you talking about in the place you are?
>yngmi
>>

KGs?
>>
>>76626931
You dumbass ego lifters need to learn how to make light weights feel like heavy weights before you kill yourselves.
>>
>>76626994
Bench dbs probably above 100s easy but my shoulders wicked fucked up. I had to start at 185 bench a few weeks ago and working back to hopefully 350ish 1rm.
>>
Dumbbell flat bench is more like an accessory than anything else
Have you even gotten close to doing 100lbs db's and above? Just getting into correct position becomes half the workout and you haven't even done a single fucking rep yet. Every time i do it i pray to god something stupid doesn't happen and my arm gets introduced to snap city.
Just do the barbell and chest accessory like everyone else

This is why machines are superior
>>
>>76627159
Superior to get past free weight plateaus, yes
>>
Currently doing the bench with dumbbells but even that I do basically once a week to avoid shoulder issues. But my weakest link my actually be my wrists, it's somehow pretty hard to get my other wrist especially in a stable position. I really have to overfocus on the wrist not bending backwards or it will 1) leak power and 2) start hurting later. The more you learn. I still suppose I'm at my strongest ever, and that's not much, but I guess because I read that your bench press weight minus the barbell weight would be your dumbbells weight.

Like basically a 100kg barbell bench would mean using two 40kg dumbbells and it sounds legit at least around those weights.

I literally have to do at least some type of horizontal press because if I quit doing at least some heavy press then my t shirt will feel two sizes too big.
>>
You have to realize that looking good is not necessarily the only goal for all people. Some people like the exercise itself, to be strong at it, etc. By the way, I've never seen anyone that benched big that did not also have a big chest, it's inevitable

Be more humble and less judging
>>
>>76626664
>my chest has exploded for the last 2 months
nocebo
you wouldn't be able to detect a few mm of growth if it did in fact occur
>>
>>76626664
>Literally no one cares how much you bench
People would care how much you bench if you benched more than 135 lbs.
>>
>>76627253
I actually like to smirk and stare at sub-2pl benchers at my gym. Makes them fucking uncomfortable lmao
I bench 3.2pl for 3-4 reps btw
>>
>>76627300
Nice. Love seeing novice lifters bully teenage girls at the gym, dead fucking serious.
>>
>>76626942
Internet is not real life and 99% of the threads here are not even fitness related
>>
>>76626681
nah its true. i used to be pretty shredded just from calisthenics and light dumbbell work and it becomes a bit of a mog for men, while women dont care.
>you're ripped bro, how much can you bench
>oh i dont go to the gym i just do pull ups and stuff at home every now and then
and in a group dynamic it can be pretty fun. everyone talking about how much they lift and you have the lowest numbers just doing high volume low weight while looking the most ripped. if you're just not insecure its literally fine.
>>
>>76626664

>Been bench pressing for 6 months.

So one thats not very long and unless you are in highschool why did it take you this long? Also obviously mix variations of incline and decline bench for max gains.

>How much you bench bro
This is just a fucking dissertation on why youre a pussy, and sounds like cope. If weightlifting had a flag the bench would be on it, because it is the primary lift Arnie himself would say it. I dumbell bench on off days and barbell on regular days cause im not a fag who cant do both. Maybe get back in there and grow some testicles instead of coping on the internet or take up badminton perhaps.
>>
>>76626697
Your arms should go behind your torso that's not gonna hurt you unless youre going so far it does. You're not doing the full ROM
>>
>>76626906
You should be doing that a minimum of 8 reps if you want anyone to believe you're not a dyel and your opinion matters

How many times does science have to tell you fucking morons the "squeeze" at the top doesn't do fucking shit.

Considering 95% of people in the gym half rep dumbbells but almost everyone benches with the bar to their chest, yes bench is objectively better for your chest since people are going deeper on bench and getting more tension on their chest in the low position

If you lock out on a bench at the top or *squeeze* on db dunch you're introducing a rest and actually are making the exercise less effective
>>
>>76626664
I don't care about pecs (who actually look like tits when overdeveloped). I bench for overall upper body development/strength
>>
>>76628664
You are right about the squeeze. It would require something pulling your arms apart horizontally where you would be required to do work to squeeze them together.

I agree with you that it's a cope, it's actually especially normies that ask about bench numbers. And bench is still the best measure of upper body strength in form of a single lift, as flawed as it is. To add to this, unlike casuals that care about muh number big, people in powerlifting that compete always have thoughts about ratios in back of their head because it's their bread and butter.
>>
>>76626681
Where i'm from they usually ask about your deadlift or OHP, granted it's a DYEL country
>>
i think its a great lift because its fun and its easy to improve on especially for beginners, as an intermediate you can continue to improve by microloading and shit like that so it feels good to do mentally but i agree dumbbell bench is superior
