>NOOOOOO YOU CANT USE A GYM PIN TO OVERLOAD THE MACHINE EVEN MORE THAN THE NORMAL STACK ALLOWS!! YOU'RE DAMAGING THE EQUIPMENT AHHHHHH!!!!

why do redditors get so btfo by the gym pin?
>>
>>76642988
why would you use this if you aren't pulling the whole stack already? what's the point of putting it in the middle like that?
>>
>>76642988
kek
>>
>>76642988
Why would the machine even have those weights if it was enough to overload it...?
>>
>>76643011
the way to use a gym pin is max out the stack (because why else would you need a gym pin) and then stick the gym pin wherever the stack will allow for additional plates to be added to it without getting in the way

These little DYEL machines typically only have like 6mm steel cable rated at 2-4 tons; while this is *theoretically* above the dynamic loading forces you should get from normal use, the cable seem to fatigue easily probably from some kind of Chinese silicon skill issues and tend to eventually snap even from using DYEL settings.
>t. seen multiple snappe lat pulldown machines
>>
>>76643067
The snapping isn't even the issue
depending on the machine, basically the only thing holding the weight stack in place are the guide rods, and they're usually barely even fixed in place/not designed to handle the torque that a plate provides.
>>
>>76643100
The cables can definitely go to snap city though; I've seen it on machines where the guide rods were totally fine but the cable basically just pulled apart one strand at a time after nicking or too much flexing. I think upgrading to like a 10-12mm cable and 5/8th solid steel guide rods is necessary for going much heavier than OEM config, or even going full stack OEM config for years.
>>
>>76643107
yeah, 100% true.
Upgrading is bad though. If that happens, I will never be able to get free shit when the gym retards get mad at stuff breaking too often and buy a new model.
>>
>>76643110
Its like its not even the gyms job to have equipment for someone half strong.
>>
>>76642988
I broke a hamstring curl machine's cable with this
I hid it before reporting to the staff and the gym didn't do shit to me
>>
>>76643011
You put it in the middle so the loaded plates don't hit the ground
>>
>>76643169
This is why my gym has mostly plate loaded equipment—unlimited loading potential, effectively. And I have to admit I roll my eyes whenever I’ve seen someone use a gympin on a cable stack bc it’s always some dyel who proceeds to jerk the weight around like a moron. That being said, I’ve never seen a gympin snap a cable. In those cases, it’s probably a cheap machine to begin with, or the original cable long ago got replaced by some flimsy shit bought at Home Depot or Amazon. Hard to imagine a real quality machine breaking this way.
>>
If you can stack machines and still need additional weight either your gym sucks and your poor or you need to lay off the juice. Every single machine in my gym goes into retard weight that no one can lift
>>
Won't the off center added weight put sheering forces on the center guide bar?
>>
>>76643011
or not to hit the top the machine - guard - or whatever

Their issue is with the original pin. Its still up top...

I've had a home gym for 20 years - rated for 60kg and I regularly load it with 120kg - have even done 140kg.
Had to change the cable once after 15 years.
>>
>using machines in the first place
>>
>>76643891
Good for home gyms - less risk
>>
>>76643889
Well ones at the gym will see many times more wear and a higher chance of dumber types of wear that your personal one wouldnt experience
>>
>>76644101
Obviously - but I'd expect professional equipment to be sturdier than domestic - and I don't have to share with other sweaty bodies.
>>
>>76643891
lets you go to failure without totally nuking the rest of your workout
>>
me and my stupid brain thought it was just adding like 5lbs when I just realized you PUT weight plates on that cylinder lol
>>
>>76643011
I could see a point for slow progressing lifts like low to high cable fly or cable lateral raises where 5 lb increments might be too slow
>>
>>76643828
DYEL alert
>>
>>76642988
what kind of bunk shit is this? all the stacks at my gym go to around 325 lbs. if you're doing more than that on a machine, you shouldnt be using stacks.

Most machines actually have on their maintainance schedule that you have to replace the cables yearly.
This is from a paramount machine that I rebuilt, for example.
Guess how many facilities will do that.
>>
>>76644538
The cables are the cheapest and easiest component, you don't actually save anything by skimping on them.

>that's a very chud thing to do anon, YOU CAN'T DO THAT
>>
>>76643868
I knew some little nonce would say this. For example, the fly machine goes to 100kg and the abduction machine goes to 150kg
>>
>>76646303
No, you don't get it man, everyone in this board has Ronnie tier lifts and they're effortlessly topping every single machine.
>>
>>76646152
Even pro gyms don't maintain regularly until someone's injured.
>>
>>76646152
Judging by the numbers of broken machines always present in globogyms, I’d say cables don’t get replaced often and are something manufacturers absolutely hose customers on.
>>
>>76642988
Youu op are the redditor for not using the barbell
>>
>>76647253
you're supposed to do both

It's less that the customers get hosed and more that the gyms just do not do maintainance at all until things break. Even with people acting like retarded monkeys, they should (except maybe chinese stuff made in the last few years) all last at least two years, with the OEM replacement period being one year.
If you buy commercial machines first-hand and not from a reseller, you can literally have these retards come to your gym and do it for you ever year for 10-15 years or until they go out of business. That's usually part of the deal with commercial equipment, and half the reason it has such retardedly expensive pricing.
Gym owners are just lazy retards typically who don't know how to manage a gym floor, let alone the equipment or the people on it.
Best part is that they can't even complain to the manufacturer over it either if they happen to cause an injury (they do, but routinely get told to fuck off and end up liable themselves).
>>
I don't get it
>>
>>76647253
actually powerlifting is very reddit behavior
>>
>>76646098
I'd assume those weights are kilograms right? Otherwise wtf is the point of this dyel ass machine
>>
>>76646323
>>76646152
This is why you go to a small gym where someone's balls are on the line. If mr small business is personally responsible for is someone dies then he isn't going to fuck it up.
>>
>>76646098
>all the stacks at my gym go to around 325 lbs. if you're doing more than that on a machine, you shouldnt be using stacks.

that makes no sense

lifting more weight than the machine allows suddenly invalidates the effectiveness of the exercise? I just have to switch to a worse exercise because the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to put more weight on it?
>>
>>76644538
>but I'd expect professional equipment to be sturdier
That depends entirely on what the gym buys. Most gyms do not buy really quality stuff.
>>
>NOOOOOO YOU CANT USE A GYM PIN TO SPICE UP YOUR SEX LIFE AND SAVE YOUR FAILING MARRIAGE! YOU'RE DAMAGING "THE EQUIPMENT" AHHHHHH!!!!
>>
>>76646152
the treadmills at my gym havent even had the beds oiled in years and are so loud (I have my own at home which I religiously maintain with the proper lube and then things like keeping motor gears and belt in good condition and tread properly tensiones).
>>
>>76648037
I don’t think they care, it’s just about cramming bodies in, especially at bigger places.
>>76649410
>Most gyms do not buy really quality stuff
This, especially if it’s a corporate chain gym (you know them all). The franchisees buy the standard equipment package, and it’s all big corporate brands the franchisor gets a big volume discount with. And lots of smaller gyms seem to think Amazon-tier equipment will hold up in a commercial environment.
>>

Based. Please give me instructions, I've wanted to know how to properly take care of my treadmill for a while.
