>Advice for new runners:
- Build up speed and mileage SLOOOOOWLY (start with 15 minutes, increase mileage at most 10% per week);
- It will feel like you're going slow, you are; don't worry about setting good times for a couple of months;
- If you start to feel pain anywhere, stop and rest;
- Don't try to copy what pros are doing. Do what feels natural; and
- Once you can comfortably roon 6 miles/10km, start thinking about a goal in terms of race distance and time, and look for a training plan for that goal (see below for suggested plans).

Same here. My rooners knee has left the "I can barely walk" phase to a tender and tolerable phase where I can walk pretty normal. However, I've realized I've got some left over DOMS from my last run in my other legs calf.
I feel like I'm almost 100% maybe 2 or 3days.
Watching myself not to eat too many calories so that I am not sluggish/lethargic for when my legs are ready

another night run. I guess the good thing about going at night is I can't go too hard at the start because that's when it's darkest. It's pitch black until I get to the main trail which is lit. I've pretty much memorized the route... but you never know if a branch or something fell down. Also got a VO2 max of 54 today, says the Garmin.
Saw 1 bun. Got to see it 3 times since I ran past that point multiple times. Might have also seen a prostitute... idk. She looked pretty trashy.

The human body is not adapted to run every day, certainly not routinely
The human body is adapted for walking, sprinting, lifting, climbing, wrestling, fighting, swimming, throwing, and fucking
Any workout that isn't entirely these things is bad for your body
The only evolutionary advantage running gives you is to escape from situations, it is a fear based action, winners do not need to run
Some people falsely believe our ancestors used running to persistence hunt
This is false, human beings developed their intelligence to be able to hunt in more creative ways, using tools, luring, trapping, outsmarting their prey
Any persistence hunters were smoothbrains
You release pheromones that signal to women you are a coward if you run, and your body becomes gangly and unattractive to women
It's an evolutionary way to weed out cowards
Another evolutionary reason running exist is for incel that were outcast from the tribe desiring to mate, would run after lone women until they were exhausted and then rape them
It's literally the workout of prehistoric incel rapists

RDLs good, nordic curls good if you are strong enough to do them without straining the hamstring you are trying to build up...
Sliding glute/hamstring bridges are a good way to start - lower risk than nordics.
When training, warm up carefully, slowly introducing intensity. Include some hamstring sweeps (shooing the chickens) and introduce high kicks carefully - straight leg kick front and high with opposite hand arcing over from behind to meet foot - when you have warmed up sufficiently. Legs swings while holding onto a fence, in line and side to side, are old favourites, as are lunges.
Skipping exercises are in vogue for a reason (just look a bit funny to outsiders).
Get a foam roller.
If you keep having issues, see a physio. Root cause could be anything from unsuitable footwear to uneven leg length to posture etc.

I like running in the dark without a headlamp.
I know my local park reallywell, and on overcast days there's enough reflected light pollution that I can just about see in the dark. Everyone thinks I'm a weirdo for doing it, but I enjoy the stillness. You can actually see much further into the bushes without a head torch than with one, once your eyes adapt.

Bait for half marathon. Tbe half marathon is how you get baited for the full. Once you go full, you are done for and you become addicted. You go into running withdrawls as you contemplate hiw much running fitness you are losing by not doing marathons and start impulse signing up for multie marathons. You end up forgetting that one of them is across the country and you don't have the money for that trip. You then end up putting it on the credit card which you then max it. In no time at all, you are now paying so much interest on it that you cannot keep up with payments and have to declare bankruptcy.

Marathons. Not even once.

This was a tough one. 15km easy, 19km at target race pace (4:50/km).

Got cocky after crushing my last long run, did zero planning for this one and regretted it immediately.

Went for run club and beers last night, slept poorly, fueled poorly, threw on some old Boston 12s with 750km on them, went out in 22 degrees and 96% humidity, and got my ass kicked. Even forgot to apply anti-chafe.

Thinking I’m gonna slow down on race day and come out of the gate at 4:55/km. Will sleep and fuel more, hope for better conditions, and replace the dead B12s with Adios Pro 3s.

I want to do the great North run, but have only just recovered from a lung condition which has kept me bed bound for a few years. I've gained a shit ton of a weight (steadily coming off), and am currently doing the C25K.

Currently doing my program 3x a week and having daily walks.

is this calorie consumption number fake on the apps that count your runs?
i'm basically 99% sure that a 10k doesnt consume over 1000 calories.
it feels more like 500 to 700, depending on how fast i go, but no way more than that.
>>
>>76658891
The average fitness tracker overestimates calorie burn by about 30-35% based on studies.
If that’s true for your tracker, your high end number is probably much closer to correct.
If you’re using an Apple Watch, just cut the number in half lol. Your lower end number is much closer to correct.
>>
>>76658703
NTA. Consistency is #1. Run a lot and build up mileage over weeks, months, years. Your cardio and endurance will fall in line.
>>
Garmin coach tells me to run my easy runs at the "easy" pace of 5:25/km but that's puts me in zone 4, should I stick to it or just run slower?
>>
>>76658999
If you haven’t manually adjusted the zones on your Garmin, your zones are wrong.
You need to read up on how to determine and set your zones on your own.
>>

Time trial is endurance sport specificity. Uphill sprint is not. Time trials for each sport is a thing. Even cycling has its own two with a ramp test. The other I don't remember the name of but it's a 10minute warm-up, 5 or so minutes at a high power level, rest for 5 or so minutes, then 20min all out. While running time trials can be done in multiple distances such as an all out 5k or mile.

A REAL DISGRACE took place on my 7 mile run this evening — it took not 2, not 3, but over 4 MINUTES to end my run (due to the CORRUPT and INCOMPETENT 90% humidity)!!

I ran my ass off, did a 30:02 4 mile split, gassed out AND RECOVERED, yet I was rewarded with BUM STATS. A complete and total investigation should be done at the highest level as to why my IPHONE 17 PRO in a WATERPROOF OTTERBOX CASE was rendered COMPLETELY USELESS by a little sweat and wet air!

I ran a 53:25, not a 57:50. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

can I get the benefits of running by doing much shorter sprints?
I live inna woods on a dirt road, terrain is extremely hilly, I probably have 100 yds in my driveway on a slight incline I can do sprints on, nothing else is close to as even/flat around me.

It's basically a way to measure how much "work" you are putting out. Think if it as a way to measure how many watts you would put out if you were say generate electricity. I don't know if it's a good metric fir running or not since I never bothered since I have an ancient Forerunner that doesn't have it. It's the standard and best standard for cycling though, and very correlated with heart rate, but it isn't 1:1. Power is more your output while heart rate is your body's response to it. Even your "zones" in cycling are found through a functional threshold of power (FTP) test.

Heart Rate Reserve is better than Max HR if you are using Garmin for your heart rate zones.

For resting HR, measure HR first thing in the morning while you are still in bed. Some people measure resting HR while sleeping. That is wrong.

For max HR, I get pretty close doing Norwegian 4x4s, on the 4th rep. Hill sprints can be good for this too, but I have no hills near by.

Just know that Garmin will probably measure your max HR wrong. My max is about 10 bpm higher using my Garmin watch vs a chest strap.

Also, HR zones change from day to day in the same person.

Rate of perceived exertion is probably the best way to measure effort for someone that isn't having regular lactate blood work done. I think new runners especially should be focusing on RPE vs. fixating on HR zones.

>>
>>76661789
flat is assumed but it's not like you couldn't do them in hills. You'd have to adjust your expectations/numbers though.

obviously a certain pace is going to be tougher up a hill, although if there's an equal downhill right after, the pace might average out the same, but really it'll be tougher on your cardiovascular system. you know. whatever.

Finally went for my 4th ever run on Tuesday, I said I would like 2 weeks ago but I was busy or my leg hurt or something...
Arrived at the park at the same time as a hot girl who came in running, she did like 10 laps straight. There was also a guy who did pushups between laps (kek), an older woman, and some half black dude incel walking on the track (kek (we are in Hungary)). It went well, I finally managed to run slowly, I could do 3 laps, rest, then another 3 for a total of 25 minutes running. It almost felt good, I didn't get too tired, my legs didn't hurt, I finally figured out running. In the end a young couple also arrived to walk on the track, they were speaking English, maybe guy taking exchange student on a date or whatever, fuck them. After I finished I ate one of these small fruits off a park tree to show off I'm cool and I got to save the banana I brought. Small and orange but it was some kind of apple. It went so well I decided I would go again in a few days.
So today I went to run again (epic double diary entry).
Weather was bad so there were only a few people walking dogs and a few ducks, I had the track to myself. Went a bit worse, took more breaks and my legs hurt a bit too. Halfway through the black guy appeared again.

Cotton or polyester wife beater. As much as I like my wool undershirts, the endurance is really really fucking bad.
Nothing like needing to pad your long johns in the knee and groin to avoid it threading apart.

This. I stopped caring about PR's. I just want to enjoy the scenery and only pick scenic races. I only do speed drills and tempo runs to make it more comfortable.

Replace most of your diet with vegetable soup for a week. Keep the protein.

Went from 2:31:02 down to 2:22:01 on my HM today, feels fucking good. That said, I'm toasted. Nap time shortly.

Sub 2 hour HM by New Years is my goal, but that's a lot of work for me. Also, a sub 20 minute 5K. I'm at 24:30 right now for 5Ks.

Are you working out? Or just running?

If you're cramping on your calves, and you aren't doing enough strength training, that could be the reason. But it could be a multitude of different things, including dehydration or even just tight muscles/improper warmup
