What's the best martial arts I can learn to defend myself without getting CTE during sparring?

you clearly already know
>>76658193>>76658194I live in Britain, I can't buy a gun, knives are out of the question since I'd rather not kill someone(and the justice system will punish me severely even if I kill in self defence).
>>76658194I misunderstood your post. Is Jiu Jutsu ideal, or Judo? I just googled martial arts and saved the first inage.
Wrestling is king
>>76658210If you can only choose one thing, it’s this. And it’s better to do one thing 3-4 times per week than three arts 1-2 times per week.>but MMAYou’re not street fighting a competent opponent with a game plan who is trying to exploit some stylistic weakness of yours>but what if they have ten friends and the floor is lavaYou’re going to get stomped out no matter what style you choose >muh gunYes but that’s not the question at hand>muh strikingGrappling is key for when someone grabs you and you can’t run away. Otherwise just run away>theres no wrestling schoolJudo>but I want to do X styleCool. Just spar/compete and do conditioning and you’re 80% there in terms of handling yourself on DA STREETZ

Honestly, boxing. Most people do not know how to deal or take a punch. Most people aren't UFC fighters. When shit goes down, he's going to try to throw fists at you. They will play right into the boxer's hands.
>>76659798This. And / or wrestling. The habits of wrestling will keep u alive in a real life or death self defense situation. "Stay off your back and get on your feet as fast as possible." This works in one v one and group fights. There is a reason this was the most widely trained sport historically in armies.BJJ and others are fine too. But BJJ is specifically one v one. The cage is actually a benefit to BJJ. Your opponents friend will stomp your head in a bar fight when u pull guard. Or even his gf. That's just one example but BJJ is expressly one v one training admitted by actual trainers. It might be the best one v one technique, but it has that limitation. So yea wreslting, then boxing/striking (maybe even muy tai for elbows and knees), then learn from the others. Also, learn what is illegal in UFC/MMA. Things like eye gouging and kicking the head while opponent is down. Those are the real deal techniques.
>>76658199Fellow bong here. Carry something blunt and vaguely innocent like a rounders bat (and a ball to give your bat carrying some plausible deniability. "I play in the park officer") or an extending window-breaker (my personal choice) hurts like fuck and can be extended for different ranges if you need to disarm someone by keeping distance and smacking his arm or hand.A slingshot and steel bbs is fucking lethal too.Even a solid walking stick is a great weapon and innocent enough to possess. I keep meaning to get one of those and get a little decent at singlestick fighting.Martial arts are great, I'm a muay thai chad myself, but if I'm walking home at 10pm after a long day wagieing and some scrote/s decides he wants a look in my backpack I'm not risking a knife in my ribs by getting close enough to use my hands or feet unless I have no alternative.Martial arts are for fun and fair contest, not actual potential life or death situations.A mugging or something isn't a fight, it's a survival situation.Looking like you can handle yourself and avoiding risky environments is the best self defence. Deterrence. I live in the norf and luckily I'm big enough to deter the malnourished chavs and dyel paki gangs that like to act hard round here. But yeah, avoid knives. Blunt weaponry is the best self defence weaponry in our shithole country
>>76659836the reason that wrestling and jiujitsu (basically just wrestling but invented by the japs) was trained by armies is because its retarded to try and strike a person wearing full steel plate armorwrestling/jiujitsu was historically a dagger martial art. you try to throw the person on the ground and then stab in the gaps of their armor with your dagger
>>76659871furthermore, the reason for the main differences between wrestling and jiujitsu are due to the design of armorjapanese armor had places where one could establish hand grips and then use those to throweuropean armor was more seamless and therefore techniques gravitated more towards arm control and leg grabs

Walk with a cane. Absolute best discrete blunt force weapon. If someone asks why you need it just say it’s for chronic back pain.

>>76658199Have you tried not living around subhumans and voting Reform next election to get them out or hopefully killed?
>>76660320In general, those with knives beat those without in melee.
>>76661285I'll say i'm a big pimp.
>>76659860you can get some pretty heavy duty umbrellasgreat for defenseyou can open them up too in order to blind the opponent from your next attack
>>76658167Judo, wrestling, BJJ (particularly no-gi) if you like grapplingWrestling is a very solid all-rounder, but you generally need to be fit as fuck to not get utterly steamrolled in training and injured. It's a sport for the youngJudo gi is a decent enough proxy for clothes like coats, hoodies and jackets, but a lot of throws depends on your opponent wearing some of the aforementioned. When your opponent is only wearing a tshirt, for example, it'll take a bit of creativity to adapt to that and many judoka would be a bit lost if it came to thatCaveat with BJJ is that 1) it contains a lot of stuff which is useful on the mat but not necessarily "On the street" and 2) it takes relatively long to become proficient enough for it to be usefulFor striking it's way more straight forward; Boxing is the fastest way to be an effective fighter, but is fairly limiting. Kickboxing and Muai Thai raise both the skill floor and skill ceiling, meaning that they're more effective but it takes longer for you to become proficientHonestly if you don't really care about competing in any of these sports and just want to know how to defend yourself, go to an MMA gym, you'll get to practice a bit of everything and you'll be fairly well-rounded
BJJ is retarded for self defence, learn freestyle instead>t. purple belt
>>76661665I think BJJ can be good, if you "adapt" it a little - instead of trying to hit a sick 'bolo leg entries or whatever, you go for a 'wrestling with chokes' kind of gameplan. Get on top, stay on top, hit them with a choke at the first opportunity, don't go for subs from the bottom unless you're 110% certain they don't have a friend around
>>76658199>I live in BritainMy sincere condolences

>>76658203BJJ is ideal because first resort is run away. If you can't run away they must be restraining you, so learning ground-focused grappling is the best option
>>76662046Would you recommend carrying banana peels to secure the takedown or can i just offer them anal sex to get into position?
>>76659871>>76659884I don't disagree. But I want to add that basically any combat prior to firearms was basically a mosh pit. The habits formed for "Don't go to the ground and stay on your feet/ have good balance" is what will keep you alive. The specific techniques are somewhat irrelevant in the general scheme.
>>76661693Wrestling pins and rides do 90% of the job a submission does. If you choke someone out or break a limb then you risk getting arrested, just hold them until they calm down or police come.
>>76662069Just invert and present your ringpiece to intimidate them
>>76662201Jointlocks aren't great unless (barring very specific circumstances) you have a very good lawyer, but putting someone to sleep might sometimes be warrantedJust exercise common sense and judgement: Can I safely hold this guy down for long enough, or is it necessary to take him out of the fight completely?
>>76658167Stay away from anything oriental.Stay away from anything with jackets and belts.Stay away from anything barefoot, mats, and protective gear, especially if you only train 1v1.And for the love of God, stay away from anything that doesn't focus primarily on knives, guns, and other weapons. All of these things are just sports, not self defense.
>>76662336So what's left?
>>76662336Krav maggots in full damage control embarassing effort sensei
>>76662336>snaps your knife
>>76660048That's not the same size difference.
>>76658203Judo, because you win by throwing (can be a knockout) or pinning (i.e. restraining, which you want to be able to do to someone attacking you)You will also learn how to not be thrown, and not be pinnedBJJ is similar, but spends vastly less time on the feet, which is obviously not ideal unless you intend to get attacked in bed>>76658199>>76659860>carry a window breakerYou are a retardThe offensive weapons act means any *thing* carried for the purpose of hypothetical use as a weapon, even for lawful self defence, is a weapon and you are fuckable by the lawThis means anything you carry must have plausible deniability, and you cannot possibly justify carrying a window breaker on your way to the shops>I carry it in case I need to break a windowNo judge will accept this and you will get 5 yearsMeanwhile you can legally carry an actual knife, specifically a penknife with a cutting edge <3" long and no lock mechanism on the hinge, WITHOUT justification and completely without requiring plausibilitySo long as you shut your fat mouth after you stab someone with it and don't slip and tell the police something like "I'm glad I carry my penknife just in case" you will be in the cleartldr just carry a uk legal penknife, there are lots of them and many are serious bits of kit
>>76658167I'd soon as practice tai chi before bjj. Bjj culture is built on underachieving and unathletic loser dudebros jerking each other around. It's a popular joke to heel hook trial people as "initiation." CTE might be better than limping forever.Wrestling is super competitive and everyone you're paired with will be athletic; terrible idea to start in your 30's. You have just judo left. If you live in any major city you might have a judo club or two. Every club starts the same, it's impossible to teach fake judo because of the fundamentals unlike bjj, so no mcdojos. Every club competes, you don't have to, so there's always a degree of seriousness. Usually, a good 2-3 months of breaking falls, then you learn one or two takedowns for another 3months, then you move a belt, and you learn good judo. A year in you would have also learned at least one submission. Will have soreness for the first few months from breaking falls, unlikely to have major injuries, worst you'll get as a beginner is a sprain.
