I was due for a cleaning so I made an appointment, only to be told I need to have x-rays done. I don't want my head to be irradiated so I said I'd opt for a visual exam but they told me it was mandatory.

apparently this is common practice and dentists basically force you to get x-rays. What if I don't want my head to be shot through with particle beams? what then? how do I get my mouth professionally cleaned?
I tried looking this up but of course the only discussions were vaxxhead redditors who apparently learned nothing from the last few years and pulled the whole "do you REALLY think you know more than PROFESSIONALS" meme.

also oral health thread
>>
i questioned my dentist about this and he insisted the xrays for the teeth are less radiation exposure than walking down a city street
>>
they have to have informed consent. your dentist is required to explain to you why an x-ray is mandatory for a cleaning. if he won't do it without an x-ray, then find another dentist that will

I saw a lot of bitching about "muh license" and "muh liability" but if the dentist explains the risks of not getting an x-ray and the patient accepts those risks then there's no problem. no dentist has ever lost their license for not doing an x-ray, redditors are retarded.

>>76663724
pic related, if that were the case then there wouldn't be documented research linking dental x-rays to cancers in the head and neck
>>
If I didn't get xrayed, they wouldn't have known to test my rear gum and found out that my wisdom tooth had been pushing and obliterated the bone. Getting it surgically removed or else it just keeps pushing and destroys my teeth.
>>
>>76663733
yeah great, the issue is if the patient does not want something, then they shouldn't be forced to do it. if a doctor wants to treat patients without listening to them they should've been a vet.
>>
>>76663733
how do you know you were gaslighted by Big Teeth into getting an unnecessary and costly procedure?
>>
>>76663721
They will keep your extracted teeth also. You can't even keep your own teeth.
One xray is ok.
Don't give blood, get off the organ donor list, fluoride is a sham, root canals will give you a myriad of health issues.

My doctor has never told me I need to lose weight. In fact no doctor I've ever gone to has ever told me I need to change anything about my lifestyle. I've only ever gone to see a doctor for acute injuries or to get a referral to a specialist, or to have them order blood tests so I can track markers.

If my doctor ever told me I needed to lose weight, I'd do it. One doctor put me on statins until I read more about them and decided I didn't want to do that to my brain so I got off them.

Didn't read your post but nano hydroxyapatite toothpaste works a lot better than (((fluoride)))
The nips have been using it for a while but it's been catching on recently in the US. The nips also make chewing gum with nano hydroxyapatite and xylitol both of which are good for your teeth and gums.

NASA developed nHA a while ago for astronauts a long time ago but the dentites have been suppressing its usage
>>
>>76663849
since you clarified your point I know what you mean, but grammatically it states that one shouldn't donate blood or get off the organ donor's list. if you don't recognize that then your reading comprehension is below high school graduate level.
>>

regular hydroxyapatite is better
nano is too small and gets in places it shouldn't. emerging research is showing it being harmful

>>
Is it true most mouthwashes are basically falvored water?
>>
>>76664140
Yes, mouthwashes that are truly good are expensive as fuck, contain 0 alcohol, and stain your teeth if used for too long so you cannot use them except after some dental surgery where you cannot clean that area any other way.
>>
>>76663721
If you went to the dentist, then that means that you concede that he knows more about oral health than you do, in which case it makes no sense to refuse the typical, routine, and approved screening procedures.

If you DO think that you know better than him, then you would never have gone to an oral health specialist in the first place.

So you need to sit down in a chair with no screens around, and no stimulation or noise, and think through whether or not what you've just done made literally any sense.
>>
jesus christ man are /fit/ards really afraid of dental x-rays? its about as radioactive as standing outside in the sun for a day. since you all are amerimutts i understand the skepticism that people are trying to buy shit from you, but as i live in a white first world european country, i can tell you that this shit is free and there is no monetary incentive for them to give you x rays. its just useful and not dangerous at all.
>>
>>76664284
For me its not about the fear more so if I just want a cleaning done, I shouldn't be forced to do x-rays. Dentist cleaning teeth shouldn't deny service because of that.

HOLY FUCK EVER SINCE I WAS 13 I WANTED TO BE THE 'EXPERT' IN A THREAD AND NOWS MY CHANCE
okay so i'm going thru an X-ray program right now and one of the topics in class was explaining to x-ray hesitant patients the actual danger of X-rays and one of the methods is the BERT method
>pic related
so basically you get radiation every day from naturaul background radiation which is a combination of sunlight and Radon that leaks from the ground which is basically a radioactive material (think uranium) that decays and leaks up thru the ground and often times leaks thru basement cracks which is really bad and you can almost always go to your local health department for a free RADON TESTING KIT to see if it's happening in ur house

but yeah another way to look at it is that sun burns are so much fucking worse although UV rays and X-ray are still different you can obviously get cancer from repetitive sun burns the same way you can get cancer from repetitive x-rays and most people don't even care about sun burns

all in all, dental x-rays are like THE lowest radiation dose x-ray you could get
>>
>>76668565
>dude you get radiation from the sun n shiet onto your skin which is adapted to it therefore acute radiation doses onto your thyroid and salivary glands is ok bro

respond to the below study or I'll assume you're just another know-nothing vaxxhead
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6341170/
>>
>>76663724
Meanwhile walking down the street it doesn't touch your thyroid, the dentists lay in bed with CT scan, xrays and ultrasounds aren't that bad but dentists today barely know how to use a dental tool. Also CT scans are the ones that go around the head while xray is just teeth and bone which isn't that bad, they act like this but don't ask about how many you've had, most cancer patients have had CT scans and in a girl under 1 years old the chance of cancer from a CT scan is 1 in 1000. Getting a chest CT scan is like getting 10 chest xrays and getting a thallium heart scan is like getting 1000.
When you go get a pack of cigarettes there's a warning label for cancer but you go into the doctors office and they don't tell you the comparative risk is like getting in a car accident driving 2500 miles or smoking 1400 cigarettes. You shouldn't have more than 1 CT scan a year ideally less than 3 a decade, more important the younger you are because more time for cell division which is fucked considering they are doing head CTs on kids I've had like 15 CT scans at 19 and they never told me about the radiation risk don't be naive they won't tell you either. I hear sonograms and ultrasounds are less invasive also some people claim lidocaine prevents bone growth and periodontal issues/bone loss is the main issue of dentistry even not chewing can cause bone loss it needs stimulation.
>>76663732
They charge like 800 dollars for it and CT scans are mostly for major dental surgery. They act like they won't diagnose sinus issues = what that's retarded a CT scan won't see the sinus, medical people including optometrist work on commission glasses sellers at Luxottica make like 1.5% commission ontop of base pay they are like car salesman with salary but they get bonuses for selling x amount. Today it's a mix of new dentists being incompetent cheating anime fans like most medical students and they mostly rely on scans.
>>
>>76663733
I think you should get CT scans before major dental surgery but you need to be your own advocate insurance will only pay for once CT scan a year and dentists have tried to give me 3 this year and they don't specify they just say its "taking some scans" it's super deceptive they say they will argue with insurance for them to pay it and that means $800 bill. You can't get CT scans that go around the head for every cleaning, use it to identify serious issues once every few years but seriously it's projected there will be 140k cancers from CT scans per year, risk being lowest in elderly. Honestly consider mental tourism and ask for the full mouth dental service which implies flossing in-between the teeth and finding in-between cavities. I say nip dental problems in the bud because you can use the roots to anchor implants(don't get bridges) but if you get bone loss it's going to be bone graft tier potentially gum disease is seriously not good
>>
>>76668565
This is deceptive because the CT they try to make you do is the panoramic one and I've literally had dentists act like I was an inconvenience saying I can't use these xrays because I didn't want panoramic CT scan also you typically don't shield the thyroid with a lead plate only your chest

my retarded ass didn't even consider the spinning CT machine and just spit out the goddamn propaganda they fed me

I haven't experienced the gun probably not bad idrk, but yeah I get the one where its the plate in-between my molar/tooth and jar and the xray goes upto it and images it which at most is only radiation in your jaw bone vs your salvitory glands and thyroid
>>
>>76668908
you're a dumbass
>conveniently leaves out the panoramic x-ray dose chart
what do you even gain from intentionally lying?
keep in mind panoramic xrays are what the dentists use, there's no cuts like CT its just one image that's really wide so they only see the surface hence why it is low dose despite seemingly being like CT

Opposite is true. Keeping the mass ignorant about vitamins repairing teeth is making dentists billions. They farm your teeth for optimal profits. First comes the fillings, then comes the root canal, bridge, and finally implant.

x-ray is harmless but it's another money grab even if you have public health care and it's a free service

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6341170/

dental x-rays are CONCLUSIVELY, 100% UNEQUIVOCALLY linked to cancers of the head and neck

kek, sorry anon, bu this is my fear, to go through a root canal, be $2k lighter in the wallet and for the problem to still exist. Definitely try get 2nd opinion before paying for expensive dental work.

I had my teeth scaled(?) 2 weeks ago and man having a nice smile just feels so good (also the feeling of the machine of my teeth/gum was so unpleasant it was a nightmare, but 40 bucks for it is worth it)
They're still a bit yellow unfortunately and I don't know how to properly whiten them (been brushing between 2-3 times a day, and once a week with baking soda on top on the toothpaste)
They're a bit crooked on the bottom when one is slightly receded but I don't care anymore
Still have all my wisdom teeth, perhaps that's it fucking my tooth, I had braces for few years and while it did helped a lot it's not 100% perfect
>>
woulda preferred I never got braces my teeth used to look beastly in a way I thought was cool now they're just 95% right with the remaining flaw sticking out like a sore thumb
>>
>teeth look fucked and discolored but are otherwise healthy
what can i do to make they look whiter without fucking them up
>>
>>76663721
I quit dentists for a while so I'll probably clean them myself in a few months. Do that.

Probably complete bullshit. The medical profession constantly gaslights and denies accountability for the harm that they do onto their patients.
Procedures and medications that were considered safe for decades turn out to be very harmful all the time, millions die, and they pretend like it never happened.
And a lot of the time, something that is considered "safe" is just something that doesn't immediately give harsh symptoms. Your health could be going down the drain months or years later, and they won't be accountable.

Only the gullible and NPCs with no internal monologue take their word as gospel.
It doesn't matter how educated they are, as a CUSTOMER, they are there to serve you, and you are supposed to judge critically whether they have your best interests in mind.

Anecdotal, but the first time I got an x-ray ever for my teeth, I suffered a horrible headache the next 2-3 days. Never doing it again.
