How many of you use smart watches? I'm struggling to think of the actual uses for it in the gym aside from consumerism, or data autism? What would be the actual utility for it for someone who lifts and doesn't do cardio? Does it really help sleep and recovery and so on?

i had a fitbit like 7-8 years ago. it was fairly bulky and felt like more of a distraction than an aid in all aspects of my life. i took it off one day in like 2019 and haven't missed it.

Cheap redmi watch
I just use it to count steps and as a watch. That's it. Tried to use it for tracking but found that:
a) it's kinda pointless since the phone app is kinda pointless.
b) when I took it on a mountain trail it would run out of memory and stop recording after 4h.

I;ve used one to track my steps, active and resting heart rate and sleep over the last year and a half as I went from fat arse to close to fit again. It has other functions for tracking specific exercise, like lifting, but I only use it to track my heart rate while lifting and keep it up arund 100-110bpm.

I find it worthwhile. The 1.5 years of tracking data shows my average heart rate dropping about 15pm over time very nicely. Daily steps and weekly intensity heart rate goals are nice. and sleep monitor seems to work pretty well telling me if I slept like shit and need more the next night.

It's a garmin epix 2.

Track steps, hearth rate and sleep. All key indicators of health.

My smartwatch primarily is just a stopwatch to time my rest breaks between sets.

Garmin is good for tracking heart rate and running info
Heart rate info is really good for detecting overtraining.

Nah, I'm using a basic gshock. I have a friend who's into hiking and kayaking, he uses some top spec garmin on his trips, primarily because of gps and shit, but wears a bit more fancy than mine gshock to the gym.
