I think everyone knows weightlifting - not olympic weightlifting, like snatches, clean and jerks, etc. - isn't impressive on a technical level (since you're just moving heavy weight from one position to another), but I'd argue it is still impressive to see people lift thousands of pounds, not many people get to that level.

It can be easily argued that lifting is useless, or that boxing, swimming, and running is useless 99.999% of the time as well.Like, what conclusion are you hoping to come to? The gym is not hard as long as you stay consistent, similar to mmorpg's. But fuck those mmorpg's. They'll fuck you up physically. at least the gym builds you up and makes you feel good.
