Lose weight you disgusting fat fuck
>>

Best I've ever done was barely under 23, I am a pack or two a day chain smoker tho.
>>
>>76684184
True I'm fat and can do that
>>
The average person age 25-50 can't run a 5k in 40 minutes...
>>
Serious rooners have the most ghoulish, fragile and repulsive looking fizeeks. What are you trying to run away from?
Hardmode: try to not reply with some variation of
>reeeeee fatsos reeeeeeee everyone is fat reeeeeeeee look how fast I can run away and starve myself huh bet you don't feel so tough now
>>
>>76684184
This is laughably untrue. Anything near sub 20 is amazing for the average person.
>>
>>76684184
Wtf is 5k, 5000 miles?
>>
>>76684184
i dont really understand this long distance running thing. its not for your aesthetic, its not for your health, its not for hunting, its not really for anything other than saying you can run for a long time. but whats the point? its like getting really good at flipping a coin with your thumb, it provides no value to anything in your life.
>>
>>76684335
20 minute 5k is nowhere near ghoulish zeek territory.

>>
>>76684184
That's a 6 minute per mile pace, or better, which is at the fast range of a non-competitive runner. Most non-competitive runners average somewhere in the 8 minute range, while competitive runners hover around the 5 minute and under range.
>>
let's make it sub 30 5k mkay?
>>
>>76684184
you meant sub 21
>>
>>76684870
>Most non-competitive runners average somewhere in the 8 minute range
Yeah that's peak normcore tempo. Pretty comfy ngl, and your non-rooner friends can train up to it reasonably quickly if you get them into rooning.
>>
I started running last month, is it possible to get to sub-20 min by June 2026?
I'm not fat but I am 37
>>
Shit
>>
>>76684332
That's me
Didn't realize how much damage sitting at a desk for 7 years until I tried to run a mile one day because I never got fat
Working down to <30m now
>>
>>76684992
how about telling us your time first, you old fart you
>>
>>76684992
Pretty tough goal but certainly possible. Focus on hard intervals like 1km repeats (ideally at 4:00/km or faster), add easy mileage to the point you dont overtrain.
>>
>>76685159
I can't run a straight 5k yet

This week I "ran" 3km but I had to slow down twice to walk a little bit twice.
My pace was 8:35/km according to Google Fit. I don't have a smart watch so that's from my pocket phone.
So I'd be solidly over 40 mins if I did a 5k with walking pauses.
>>
i dont want to go to /roon/ but how do i even start running?
is it pointless to try to just run like half a mile to start and then work up from there?
never been a runner
>>
>>76685177
I would go to a track and do run/walk intervals. Jog a lap, nice and easy then walk a lap. Something like that. Even shorter running interval if youwant. You don't need to do a hard continuous effort your first time.
>>
>>76685177
just start with jogging little distances and going further slowly over time, don't bother with caring about time and shit like that, running is retarded and not even good for you, gives you big eyebags too. its a mental illness, you would be healthier boxing. unless you want to sprint.
>>
>>76684992
Possible? Sure. Probably? Not so much.

If you treat it like a race you can plan and train for each pace you're going to run for that distance. Basically something like a start pace, sustain pace, and kicker/finish pace. You've got 8 months to train, and if you did serious interval work to blow up your cardio / stamina, you could probably pull it off, but it won't be easy for you.
>>
>>76685170
I started running in April, and my first 5k's were around 35 mins, currently at 27:40, and running 1hr 10k every other week. The fastest way to improve your times is to do fast intervals. Start slow, then greatly increase your tempo, and return to slow-medium tempo. I also ran a lot in the forest (before an eagle chased me off twice), which had these great uphill routes, and I'm talking big, big elevation, jogging slowly up those seemed to help me improve a decent amount.
>>
>>76685177
This.
>>76685188
Go to a track and walk every straight section, then jog around the corners at a pace that's comfy for you. Start with a total of 20-30 minutes total time, and slowly increase the distance of your jogging sections until you can comfortably run around the whole track. Once there, just expand time / distance / pace slowly and to what's comfy for you.
>>
My cardio standard is being able to run exactly fast and far enough to mog my friends.
>>
>>76685170
What's your current weight/age/race/dick size
>>
>>76685188
>>76685191

thanks, anons
in the past ive absolutely hated running on a track, feels like a hamster wheel
might try to find some paths that i can do something similar on in nature
>>
>>76684184
Did it the first time when I was 13 years old where I just fucked around on the treadmill one day. Also did it 2 years ago too. That's the only times I ever went for achieving sub 20 minutes, running isn't my thing.
>>
do people really track their mile and shit? i just pirate some album and prance around as long as that album is. Trying to only breath out my nose. I just listened to flac or whatever it lossless audio i pirated of the deftones and there were about 2 or maybe 3 good songs.
>>
>>76685344
>deftones

anon that is their entire discography
>>
>>76685344
At this point I'm so familiar with most of the possible routes near my house that I can track my mileage without any device.

BROS HOW DO I COMPETE?
>>
>>76685361
i meant the new album idek or care to argue im just saying thats what i listened to
>>
>>76685604
you don't
these people were built to run, they probably weigh like 120lbs and have been training consistently since elementary school
try to run 400m in under 1 minute 30s and then think about maintaining that for 12 laps. That would get you to a 18 minute 5k.
Or just try doing a 3 minute 800m and tell me how you feel.
>>
>>76684332
"person"
The average healthy young man could without training for it
Running is easy especially if you lift

what are the other minimum requirements to be considered fit?
>>
>>76686342
RFK’s 50 pull-ups / 100 pushups in 10 minutes. With proper form and controlled reps it’s a very good challenge, I needed the full allotted time.

>>76684184
Nah it means you dedicate too much time to cardio and are small. My best was 20:30 on 10 miles a week and some HIIT at 180lbs. Since this is primarily a lifting board a 5k over 25mins is embarrassing for lifters, and over 30mins is embarrassing for the average person
>>

anons i tried for it today and had to bail halfway through…

i’m marathon training and i just hit my mileage peak (75km/wk).

got cocky and tried for the sub-20 5k about 12 hours after my most recent long run.
my legs didn’t have it in them…

how long after my marathon should i wait to try for a 5k PB?
>>
>>76685650
I didn't know you were this fast
don't ask me bro, you're the wizard

>>
>>76685766
It literally is. I just went and did hill sprints recently. ez. Did a jog with someone a while back. ez. I couldn't do it all day but I can definitely do it. Lifting gives you the basics for all that.
>>
>>76686381
>RFK’s 50 pull-ups / 100 pushups in 10 minutes. With proper form and controlled reps it’s a very good challenge, I needed the full allotted time.
Nah that sounds useless and potentially counterproductive. I think the ones he listed pretty much cover it.

sub 20 5k is pretty overkill on the fitness scale for normies. Personally, this is how i judge people on their fitness:
>sub 30 5k run
>45m-1h 20k bike
>able to touch both hands behind back and alternate (shoulder mobility)
>bench 30-40lbs over your bodyweight
If you can do all these, youre "fit", once you start doing more youre entering athlete level and so on. Funny thing is, 90-95% of normies can not do 2/4ths of the things i mentioned. You'd be looked at as a god by these people if you can just do all these (which can take up to 3-6 months of training if you start from nothing)
>>
>>76687327
"Normies" or the average person is a fat slob and shouldn't be used as a reference point to any ideal fitness standard. The low standards you wrote down would rather determine whether someone is paraplegic or not.
>>
>>76687357
youre so out of touch and retarded, you have no idea what youre talking about
>>

>>
>>76687378

Never reply to me again and get your brain checked by an MRI, youre missing half of your grey matter
>>
>>76687382

>>
>>76687911

>>

Sub 6:30 mile for 10k at 180lbs is above average for a non-competitive runner.
>>
Like it or not, it's all down to genes.

I started running regularly, every 2nd to 3rd day back in late December 2024.
Fast forward to now and I can run 12km at 5min/km pace, certainly I can go longer.
But faster? Difficult, my best 5km time is still about 23 minutes.

You see YT videos telling how awesome zone 2 training is.
The problem is that I have no zone 2 except while I am walking fast.

Some people can get below 20 minutes after 1 month of training.
>>
What exactly is your training progression / routine from when you started till now? I'm curious about something

Do daily 5ks at near race pace then

400
800
1200
1600
1200
800
400

Up and down the ladder boy race pace for those. Then mix in some hills. Take some time off and get new shoes if you get shin splints.

Also 5ks are typically done on trails or on streets with hills. Our cross country course for instance had a trail hill so steep you basically had to climb up it lol

Shin splints are common so do these walks for a little bit if you feel them developing. Do toes in as well. New shoes really help the most though.

Either tempo runs (according to HR) or short intervals at close to max HR (with tempo warm up and tempo cool down).
Either way no run above 12 km at once so far.

Averaging around 120km distance a month, so far around 1100km since.
