What percentage of fit can bench 225 lb?
Heaviest I've done is 231 for a singleLifted for more than 10.5 yearsKek
I jumped to 230 lbs two days ago after being stuck for 2 months in 210 hell and failing 225 multiple timesNothing has changed i'm still a psychopatic sack of shit
I think heaviest ive done 10 reps in a row is 160lbs, but couldnt hit 10 on subsequent sets. After doing pushups for months at 145 lbs i started off benching 135lb for 10 reps. Eventually i made it up to 145lb at the sane weight, though subsequent sets were morr like 8 reps. Right now i weigh 170 and feel like it has barely gone up compared to all my other lifts. Been expirimenting with dumbell pressing and incline and decline. I like dips but they inflame this cartilege in my chest connecting to my ribs.
Kinda crazy considering that at any time I can just got into the gym after any amount of time off an just put up 225 for at least 5 minimum. No way people aren't that strong, especially lifting for multiple years.
>>76694261Thing is, most people dont try at all or register the concept of progressive overload mentally
>>76694272Do you think someone who follows well written programs and tracks all of their workouts is doing more than most? There's plenty of free apps that have programs by great coaches that also making tracking progress easy. I don't know how people fail to progressively overload. Maybe I'm a geek
>>76694261I bench pressed 225 once then I moved on to exercises that require less brain power. My benching form was truly awful and I had to focus like crazy to keep it somewhat ok-ish. (I still bench but Swiss bar only, it's literally retard proof)
I would say 60% of /fit/ can easily bench 225lbs if you exclude trannies and Indians
>>76694279Yes you're doing the bare minimum, most people dont take lifting seriously. Your perception is warped by online bubbles of serious autistic mentally ill lifters or professional ones on gear
>>76694288So around 3 people can do it, gotcha
>>76694292Lol
After getting dumped and humiliated I decided to go straight edge this year, breaking a seven year long SWED habit, as well as quitting cigarettes and alcohol. I'm 30yo and I've been hitting the gym since February, recently hit 245lbs bench for two reps, doing sets of 2pl8 since September. Thanks to that bitch that fucked my life up yesterday, so that I could thrive today. If I don't hit 4pl8 deadlifts by the end of the year I will blow my brains out.
>>76694279>There's plenty of free apps that have programs by great coachespls name a couple
>>76694343Boostcamp, hevy , strong, are probably the better ones
>>76694223I look like i can bench way more than I do and i dont know if thats a good or bad thing.
/fit/ won't admit it but if you can bench 225 at 5 reps than your stronger than 95% of males
>>7669436595% of males includes asians (south, east and western asians), africans and latinos, geriatrics, newborn, barely pubescent males, cripples...Yes technically speaking you're stronger than 95% of "males" but you're still barely stronger than 60% of regular gym goers
>>76694382I look steonger than 80% of athletes and never actually repped even 3pl8s explain that
>>76694397Because athletes dont need to look strong you low iq biowaste
>>76694404Id have to guess its just that i dont hump the weight
>>76694223From talking to normies, like 1%. Even with some of my friends who lift as a hobby, most of them were surprised that I could do 275 for reps of 10. I main do dumbell bench press cause I can't be bothered setting up barbell benches.
>>76694349thank you bro
>>76694382Maybe you go to a proper gym but I've been going to commercial gyms for a looong time and a 2 pl8 bench is not common at all. Maybe if you count smith machine "benching" around 8% of normie gymgoers can do it.
>>76694261not everyone weighs the same chubs.
>>76694382This is pol, chud
1%, its the same ratio as irlsad to say it, but there are actually sad pathetic people here who pretend to lift heavy, they know all the jargon though, thats not even funny, its just sad and pathetic
>>76694223dunno what my 1 rep max is but I can bench 355 for 5
>>76694272bench is the easiest lift to go apeshit on because if you are out of position it's an instant technique fail, and if you fail on strength there's a specific sticking point.squat and DL to true failure is an entirely different thing. I've dumped the bar tens of times on bench attempts, I am yet to fail a squat or deadlift and I'm at 3.5/5pl8
>>76694281For me its more that high intensity benching is so easy to fuck up your shoulder joint/tendons. So much so that youll notice how rare a big chest is along with big delts.
>>76694404Looking strong makes progress faster. Imagine only ever doing 1rms on curls, theres no real reason to skip out on extra volume unless that kind of training is tapped for gains and you need more strength/myofibular fiber training. You arent training type 2 fibers even on slow reps, its just that most think its dumb meanwhile chest/delts is the hardest muscle group to be proportionally big/strong at and every other dude can build massive lats/legs.
>>76694238>Nothing has changed i'm still a psychopatic sack of shit
>>76694223365 ORM (more like 345 with entirely proper form down and up)Used to be able to bench 225 for like 17 repsNow I can barely do 5Getting old sucks
>>76694223Sometimes less than 5 sometimes closer to 15.
>>76694246>I like dips but they inflame this cartilege in my chest connecting to my ribs. You know your body also rebuilds cartilidge through collagen synthesis right? Dips are sick though, i do those and narrow bench a ton lately and finally got some chest mass/regular benching is easier.
>>76694223Are we talking reps or 1RM?I've done 90kg for reps of 5 (2 sets) and my 1RM is 105kg.
i can. 225x5 to 6 is my working set
I can do 125lbs x8 then x4 then x4or i can do 85lbs x10 90lbs x10 95 x8 100 x7it's really baffling, it's like my frame doesn't want to get stronger
>>76694223Idk but based on what I see in the gym my guess would be like 10% of any group of hobbyist strength trainer dudes/would be bodybuilders can bench 225, and porbably a good 70% of that 10% can only bench 225 because they are obese and it's sub bodyweight for them, I am one such fat man.So final answer, 10%. If you exclude the fats then like 3%.
>>76694321We're proud of you anon, good fucking job.no blowing brains out though, that is faggot talk.
>>76694223I've done 205 lb for 5 SHOULDER WIDTH so yeah could prolly do 225 lb at least for one
>>76694223Probably only 30%, most of the people here are novices. I can do 310lbs at 185lbs
>>76694886This>>76694321Gas is the patrician choice. You want your perfectly sculpted body to remain as intact as possible on your way out
>>76694223I can do 14 rep sets of 2259 rep sets of 275 I dont go higher than this because it hurts my shoulder and I'm happy with this weight. Im pretty sure I could do 315 a few reps if I loaded it on there.
>>76694223Does anyone know why i look like i can bench so much less than my ohysique besides long arms/injury(bad leverages make you more injury prone) seriously its like i have to work over twice as hard for strength, the math doesnt even work out for hiw much worse the leverages are i look over 1pl8s for reps stronger than i am.
225 is dyel tier broTeenage girls can hit those numbers
>>76694223Maybe 10-20%. Took me probably 6 months of focusing on it to hit. After 18 months I'm at 265 but now I'm getting tendonitis. I'm 40 now so I've gotta take it a bit easier.
>>76695239Thats a weird weight where youll need to lower freq to let tendons catch up to muscle especially if you just put on a lot of the muscle as tendons take longer to recover and require a nutrient dense diet more than muscle.
>>76695249>what nutrientsGetting different amino acids from more tendony cuts of meat(stew meats), making shit with stock and having a lot of butter/vegetables/herbs etc. Vegetable proteins have incomplete proteins and so does collagen so having enough of everything and keeping collagen protein high enough definitely helps rebuild tendons asap.
>>76695224This, 3pl is when I know people take bench seriously 2pl is either beginner or intermediate depending on body weight
>>76695224You're gay
I am currently at 175 but weigh 150 and have only been working out for 6 months. Goal is 225 by 12 months and am on track to get there so feeling good.
>>76694281> I bench pressed 225 once then I moved on to exercises that require less brain power. I can't imagine how retarded you must be to grade exercises based on their required brainpower
>>76695312That’s impressive for a girl
>>76695313Very much so, anon. In my defense I lift very early in the morning when I'm still half asleep but this adds maybe only a 10% of retardation.
>>76694223I benched 225 for 1 my first time in the gym by spamming bodyweight dips and push up variations.
>>76694223Did 5x92kg 20 minutes agoI'm basically the strongest guy on fit
>>76694223How long did it take you to go from 225-315 1rm calc or actually lifting it? Takes me about 1yr per 90lbs 1rm.
this is for 1rm right? I bench 5x5 220, so im pretty sure I can push 225. I dont really max out since I dont really see the point of it if as long as your making progress
>>76694238You're a psychopathic sack of shit who can bench 225, and to be honest that sounds like you'd make a hell of a drinking buddy.Don't be so hard on yourself man, you deserve to find some self love.
>>76694223I've been stuck at it for the past couple of months. How long does it take to finally get past 225?
>>76695519>Takes me about 1yr per 90lbs 1rm.Retarded meaningless metricYou could bench 900lbs in 10 years
>>766955776 months
>>76694847You're onto something, the only way I would believe 90% of fit can do a 225 bench is cause you guys are all fatass greaseball lardelementals.
>>76695650Meh I usually train myself to the ground and thats 1rm calc, itd be dishonest to say i made less progresa than someone who wouldnt benefit from resting for over a month though.
>>76695860I actually have a sick physique after 2.5yrs lifting because i got fat suck it nerd
>>76695287Takes time bro. I take bench seriously and I'm still at 205. I can bench 3 days a week do tons of good bench accessories it doesn't matter I'm not getting a 315 bench without years of training.
>>76695980Id say take 2-4 full days off more often like every lifting week(5-10 days depends on how the sessions that week went) over deloads unless in rhabdo/muscular atrophy/overwork. Or even take a week or 2 of say 2 reps shy of 5rm lower volume to do some delts(recovers quicker probably less progressed into muscular fatigue) and maybe end the longer alternative lifting block with some back abs legs etc. Id probably go to reverse grip/close grip/delt biased as those are the most common lagging variants. But yeah 1-2x bench before delts, then a few days of more arms core legs back while bulking to find your long weekend recovery cadence so you can chop off a few recovery days per month but do so optimally so youre still growing. Lagging/regressing weight is often a good sign of correct training, its just how deep into cns/muscular fatigue is best for you to get at your lifts, and how long to recover/how to program a lifting week.
>>76695650>You could bench 900lbs in 10 yearsYes, and?
>>76694223Probably 50% at best.
>>76694288>How can I make this topic about trannies
>>76694234Jesus dudeAll you had to do was eat real food at a small surplus Wtf were you doing
>>76694223I went from literally 0 strength, benching 40-50 KG with Cystic Fibrosis to 100kg in 10 months. Granted I benched twice a week towards the end of it, but still. If you bench and are in the gym for at least a year consistently, you should be very close to being able to achieve it.
>>76694223Mike Isratel can do 230 for 2 reps, so probably not many can do 225
I bench 3 times a week doing singles, doubles and triples with no accessories and can do lmao 3pl8 at a bodyweight of ~175. have been lifting since 2020 but started being srs for the last 3 years tops
>>76694714I wasn't sure if there was much data on collagen. I might stop taking some of my other supplements soon and try it.>narrow benchHow narrow?
>>76698090>15>eliteWhat arbitrary standards. I can do that and I'm just your average schlub.
Getting to 3pl8 is starting to feel rough. My form keeps slipping badly above 260 on a 1RM. I might trying throwing in spoto press
>>76694223This is like 6 years old so it's probably less now.I'd bet 1 in 5
>>76694321Not to be a blackpilled and in fact I haven’t missed a single workout this year (except when I was sick) but how do people find motivation to lift (especially nattt) in 2025 when height and face is all that matters? I mean there’s no good ROI on lifting in 2025. In 33 and I just do it because I always lifted since 20
>>76694223My bet is like 40% of fit, we arent *that* weak here, although you do see guys complaining they haven't hit it yet occasionally. I can do it. Getting close to 315
>>76697159>I went from literally 0 strength, benching 40-50 KGI couldn't even lift the bar when I first stepped inside a gym lol
Can someone fucking help me? I have been hardstuck on 225lbs x 5 reps for the last 3 months. NO matter what i do i can't get more reps or climb weight and not get stuck at 3 reps. The only thing im worried about hindering me is fatigue management because i have been going really hard lately and hammering squats aswell getting those numbers up. Also sleep kinda mid and im 33 but that's not excuse because i always slept mid
>>76698090Chat is this real? He can't be that much of a genetic lottery loser.
>>76698410Whats your program
>>76698410Do some bench press variations
I fucked up my shoulder in the beginning of the year doing incline bench in a fucking smith machine of all things. Now I can't do DB bench anymore, one of my favourite exercises. Hope it heals soon. The odd thing is, I'm stuck doing flies in a pec deck but I am smashing PR after PR in OHP.
If you asked that, but also how many reps they could do of it, I can guarantee the responses would exceed the average at the last NFL draft. The internet is full of liars
I think you're asking the wrong question, so I'll answer the better one I've invented in my superior brainIt took me about 2 and a half years of consistent working out to do it, and my body type is tall and lanky, so a lot of work had to go into building mass, GOMAD did that for me. I'm a pretty lean 180lbs right now (6'1) and could put five up. I've had periods over the years where I could only do 2 or 3 reps at a time, but don't think there have been any times in the past 8 years where I couldn't do at least 1 rep of 225. Most I ever put up was 265x2 and that was at 195lbs
>>76698410You're not pushing the envelope. You don't need to hit 5 reps if you up the weight minimally to 235 and take breaks between sets. That's how you make 235 your new 'normal' weight and then 245 and so on. Pretty simple.
>>76694223At my weight I probably won't hit 225lb. Plus, 170lbs is all the weight I have at home.
>>76694261Post bodyweight.
>>76698090Afaik that was after several injuries and surgeries he got for them. His powerlifting results are impressive, so I assume he only did this video for the sake of entertainment.
>>76694223I can do it. But 315 is the new 225 so who cares
I'm at 205 right now. Been lifting for 2 years, 6 months of that have actually been dedicated to benching though. Looking forward to 2 plates>>76698410Well, how did you get to 225? Use microplates and push your boundaries again
>>76694223225 is the most I do for reps unless it's a challenge set. Anything past that and I start to lose control with pecs and start using arms more. Isolation > load.
>>76699514>I'm at 205 right now.And by that I meant for reps, 5x3Benching is a lot of fun by the way. I used to dismiss it as an exclusively powersharter movement, but in time I started to see the appeal. Forgive me, powersharters, I hadn't lived properly
I do 225 for eightI want to increase more but but between lots of other shit its on hold right now
>>76694223I hit 225 when I was 15 and weighed 150. I quit working out six months later when I hit 255 and weighed 150. I only db bench now when I bench. I see way more growth from that and I honestly enjoy the range of motion better too.
>>76698403I don't know how that's possible as a man over 65 kg, I was down at 30-40 kg as an 18 year old just starting out years ago.
3pl for 1 at 6’3 85kg 11%
>>76694223Of /fit/? Probably like 60-70%. Of the general populace? I've met plenty of dudes who can't even bench 1plate.Hardworking dudes. Could run circles around me. Somehow, no strength.I suspect lifting small weights all day every day actually degrades your muscles
>>76694223I can bench 415 but I don’t barbell bench.
>>76698313Lmao using ROI in your personal life just fucking KYS already you bugman faggot. How exhausting it must be to take things so seriously and not just do things for pleasure. Grim.
>>76694223I only use dumbbells so I don't really test maxes out. But I recently decided to try anyway to see if I could set some PRs and I did 90 lb dumbbells for 3 reps. Does /fit/ think I could benhc 225 lbs? I've never really used barbells so I would have to get used to the difference first obviously.
>>76702157Try to do 135 lb for 20 reps, if you can do that try 225 with a spotter
>>76699228Buy more weight
>>76694223My 1 rep max was 250 lbs at 5'7,160lbs of weight. I could do 225 for 5 reps. It was after 3 years at the gym. Later i stopped doing bench because of a shoulder inflammation
>>76694223Not me!
>>76700875>60-70%I’d be surprised if it was 6-7
>>76694223I only have two adjustable 40kg dumbbells at home to do chest press with. Can do 9-10 reps and usually do 5 sets. I only do it twice a week max and otherwise I just use a 32kg kettlebell twice a week and do 50 pushups every night. Maybe 20-30 reps of the ab wheel if I feel like it. 20 minutes skipping 3 times a week too. I have never bothered to check if my routine makes any fucking sense at all but I get compliments on my physique so that's enough for me.
>>76694223I first did a shaky 1RM 225lbs bench after about a year in the gym, started with modified SS then moved on to an upper/lower. Ten years later and I can do about 260lbs for a triple on a good day, but I stopped chasing numbers years ago and rarely lift that heavy.
>>76694223Im at 210 for 5 rn so give me like another month or two and I'll be there

>>76694223A legit 2pl8 bench is actually very rare. Just look around next time you're in a public gym, you'll barely ever see anyone lifting that much. And half the time you do see it, it's some 350lbs bloatmaxxerAverage gym goers aren't that serious and don't really know how to train or eat to get seriously big or strong, so most will never even touch that amount of weight. I think a good amount of /fit/ are actually not average gym goers, and are autistic enough about lifting to take it that seriously and get decent numbers thoughAnd also keep in mind>Benching 225lbs lean Vs fat are completely different games>Most people who say they bench 225 really just do half a rep with help from a spotter>Some of those who claim they bench 225 really mean they're doing it on a fucking chest press or smith machineI think probably 20% of this board can legitimately lift that much, with half of those being fat

>>76705396I have a 7ft wingspan benching is not easy for me. Short guys often lift super early and it basically widens your shoulders creating a better ratio for torque production(shoulders:humerus), but this also occurs even past 30s due to hgh/test production as the endocrine system adapts. Thats not even the end all be all as fiber types(also adaptive), chest depth, delt insetions, and sure tris i guess all differ, and actually do kind of change also at least visually in my experience and why is so important to bulk more than cut. Look at he guy on the right hes the powerlifter, do you think he looked like that especially if he didnt start lifing till 18? Long arms often mean you have the genetic for absolutely wide shoulders but didnt stimulate growth and were underfed in later adolescence thats the case for me but i also grew pretty wide within like 2yrs theres no comparison.

Drinking soda while lifting for example, being ahead of nutrient absorption so you dont go almoat a whole hour without glycogen which just mutes protein synthesis entirely basically.>roiders high test still have muscle leanYeah when starved you consume less calories. When you eat youre temporarily at a surplus. Test just allows it to happen more and honestly roids make it way more complicated and annoying to have to be taking these into account and doing other steroids doing surgeries no liquor or coke etc its just gay.
