Is a 20 minute excercise/routine pointless?I'm a newbie, and my routine plan only clocks at 20 minutes. Is see comments all the time saying 40 minutes at the gym should be the minimum.
>>76723414Not pointless but aim to increase your workout time
>>76723414Any lifting at all is infinitely better than couch sittingOther anon is right that you should aim to increase it to a level where you can get a proper routine done but you'll probably want to do that naturally in time when you start making progress and enjoying that.
>>76723414Don't worry about it. If it's getting you started, that's great.
>>76723414Well, end of the day, are you progressing? From month to month can you see an increase in reps and weight? Or a decrease in rest time or heart-rate? As long as you are progressing, that's what's important. One of the best routines I ever ran was 20 minutes a day. I was super busy at the time so I decided to do a minimalist routine. 20 minutes every day, alternating cardio and strength. And every once and while, I would have to add more weight to the bar. Every once and a while, I would realize I was finishing my cardio with a lower and lower heart-rate. The funny thing was, with this routine, I was progressing, but has essentially zero fatigue or soreness because it was only 20 minutes a day. I swear the key to good training is experimenting a bit, and finding something that works. And if it works, just keep doing it.
>>76723414Pick two exercises a day and superset them with about 90 seconds apart. The exercises should use opposing or non-overlapping muscles, e.g. bench press superset with pullups, not bench press and tricep extensions. You can get a decent chunk of volume in like this.Example for the week: >Monday: close grip bench press and chinups>Tuesday: leg press and bicep curls>Wednesday: shoulder press and pullups>Thursday: RDLs and skullcrushers>Friday: rows and dips
>>76723414If you’re getting in a decent number of working sets per muscle group every week then that’s fine. 20 minutes does seem pretty low to be able to do that, but maybe with proper super setting it can be done. As a beginner you will grow from basically any stimulus anyway so as long as you’re training decently hard and being consistent you’ll grow even if it isn’t optimal.
