Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.

Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

At 260lb you are a big enough guy that 2lbs a week is very doable for the start. If you want to speed run it then look into doing a PSMF. The faster you do it you will have some more noticeable loose skin because doing it slower is allowing it more time to heal longer. You will also have more if you balloon back and forth a lot or start out really fat.

On another note fatties, I am not doing so well, haven't been working out and have been eating over maintenance for the past couple months.

If you're not going low-carb I'd recommend it, did wonders for curbing cravings. Also try adopting a 16:8 IF if you can. Once you get used to it over 4-5 days your hunger pangs almost completely disappear, and if you got a particularly rough one you can drink some black coffee to suppress it.

Ultimately you gotta stop consuming content that has juicy burgers and 'za all over the place. Get an ad blocker if you don't have one already, try to get in the habit of muting the TV whenever the commercials come on if you're watching sportsball or something, etc.

I have been on carnivore for months and I can tell you that yes cheeseburgers are still fucking delicious and the cravings for them never go away
There is nothing better than a perfectly cooked and seasoned ribeye or filet mignon, but they cost 3-5x as much as a good cheeseburger from a decent restaurant and take 10x the effort to prepare.

You can get a decent flank steak for less than $8 from the grocery store. That’s cheaper than any fast food burger in aware of. Pound that sucker out, toss on a little adobo, grill it for 7-8 minutes and you’re done. Put some yellow rice in the rice cooker, and some mixed veggies in the oven. Total cook+prep time less than 20 minutes (minus the veggies that usually go in for 45). That’s a weight loss meal that tasked amazing. I like to put Parmesan cheese and Cajun seasoning on my veggies and it’s still within guidelines

Ive been in physical therapy for /fat/ related reasons and one of the things I noticed is that even when I think I'm doing something right, I usually need corrected a few times to do it actually right. Did you guys know that fasting for 120 hours is a little painful? Especially when the 2 days leading up to the fast you only ate a small can of baked beans, 2 slices of birthday cake, a handful of salt chips and 3 crostini sandwiches with eggs and shrimp?

The worst part is that everyone tells you you're not fat regardless of whether you are or not, so it's impossible to tell if you're actually fat or if it's just body dysmorphia.
The internet will tell you the same thing, unless you post it here in which case everyone will say you're fat unless you're a twink or built like a Greek god.

Plus I do a pretty intense sport so I naturally feel hungrier, but the actual energy I burn is never enough to offset the food that satisfies those cravings.

I'd definitely recommend getting one for at least a bit, or joining a group if that's cheaper. Especially if you're trying to learn the correct way to do different lifts or exercises. I used to do powerlifting, and know if you start learning an exercise with poor form, it becomes extremely difficult to break that habit and start using the right technique. Better to get that out of the way now and build those correct habits
