The benefit of CBD is that it mimics gabapentin. Which is a neurological suppressant, mainly for nerve damage.
Since it slows down the rate of impulse to the brain, it can allow the brain to "relax".
The problem is the brain doesn't need to be relaxed when asleep.

Have you ever been on the verge of sleep and suddenly your feet or arms shake for no reason? That's your brain going into systems check mode.
Where it shuts off everything other than basic life support to the body and begins to cycle through each portion of itself to see what needs to be focused on.
That experience of the shaking hands or feet is you prematurely doing this before you were actually fully asleep.
The brain will allow portions of itself to rest, while the other portions light up to manage hormone production, basic life support, and other chemical/electrical impulses specifically in the "repairing" concept of being alive.

If CBD neurologically suppresses you, that means in the long term abuse of CBD would actually suppress your brains ability to function during these cycles.
Which usually leads to insomnia as the most common result or alternatively just not feeling rested.
As glycine, melatonin, and i'm missing one, but there is another agent that is mandatory for sleep. These are carefully monitored and dosaged to your body in real time.

So if you are in huge amounts of neurological pain and can't sleep, CBD would theoretically be a good alternative.
If you're just using CBD because you like the depressant nature of it.
