>Who is /fat/ for?
For milky monsignors working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice. Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/ - Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

I finally understand the temptation to fast to "undo" the damage done the day before. Was doing so well except I was too busy to cook yesterday so I made the mistake of ordering out...unfortunately they were doing a buy 1 get 1 free thing at a restaurant so I figured I would "save" money, get the 2 and just stick the other portion in the fridge for tomorrow. It didnt work out. Not only would a fast reset the progress but it would also "punish" me and in a weird cathartic way make me feel better. But I assume that way lies disordered eating. I still want to try fasting but when I do itll be for the right reasons.
Anyway thanks for reading my blog.

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking accountability and making up for mistakes. The biggest problem comes from when you continue to lie and make empty promises with yourself. Fasting is a tough challenge, and there are other ways to burn off a meal.
>>
>>76735948
you'll make it anon, I believe in you. If you're really feeling the craving, this is something I've done with success.
I go a week ahead in my meal plan and plan out how I would incorporate that fast food meal into my macros for that day. Once I have everything planned out and accounted for within my diet, I leave it there until the date comes up. If I'm still feeling the urge, then I can feel comfortable getting it because I know I'm not gonna overeat and I've accounted for the "cheat" meal.
At least for me that satisfies the immediate urge I'm feeling because I know it's in my future, and during the next 7 days my craving for it gradually fades and I'm not interested in it anymore

i got fast food just now. but i tracked all my food for the day this morning to see what i'd be able to get away with. had up to 700 calories available, but kept it under 500 in case i get hungry later. i miss my 1200 calorie slop meals, but that is why i got fat.

There is some sort of... aura? I crashed out yesterday after a terrible day at work. Lots of eating and snacking. I went to sleep without really eating anything and woke up the next day with no hunger pangs or anything. I decided that it was the day I got back on track. I was met with a ham biscuit. An hour later I got some tuna arepa thing with mayonnaise. A guy I did a minor (2 dollar) favor the other day offered me a plate from a food truck that outside for the day, because I "looked weirdly skinny". I do not think that a pathetic 15 hour fast makes you look weird? I completely pigged out yesterday. There is some aura that makes people want to make you fail out of the goodness of their heart.

I bought a food scale, ate less, ate better, moved more. The moving more part is optional too, I just go for a 30 minute to an hour walk every now and again. It really isn't that hard to lose weight and the only reason I was ever a whale to begin with was because I was lazy and depressed and didn't give a shit about anything but then I found a reason to not want to be a fat fuck anymore and read the OP instructions and went from there. Also I am not fucking starting a gofundme no one is going to give a shit about some random fatass on the internet and I don't want my face out there.

I might just be incredibly shit at meal planning but I'm finding it incredibly hard to hit 150+g of protein and 30g of fibre within ~1700-2000 calories (I prefer to be on the lower end, but am okay with 2000)
Do I really need fibre, really.

I'll look into that, I've never tried sugar free jello as a snack, how much of it do you eat on a typical day, how many calories in a pack? I'm the type of fatty who eats when he's bored and likes to have something to shove into his fat face pretty much all day, and instead of denying myself something I let myself have as much slushy as I can handle.

Which is a lot. I'll eat this shit until I'm shivering.

I'll fucking down 4 or 5 of these a day sometimes to combat particularly rough cravings, but usually only about 2 or 3 full jars a day. The jar on my blender is 2L so like 4L~6L a day is my typical amount. Which I realize is a ton, but its better than eating pizza, oreos, twinkies, or pretty much anything with calories.
>>
Does walking my usual 10k steps hurt me if I'm on 48h fast? Never fasted before, but I've been stalling for the past 2 weeks, so I'm trying fasting over the weekend.

Its what old people take to keep their poops "regular". Its a brand of flavored psyllium husk, its pretty as dense a source of dietary fiber as you can get. Most people don't get enough fiber and fiber can help you feel full. That said don't go crazy on the stuff, you can cause blockages if you go overboard, stick to the normal dosage.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MggKIfEld4
>>
Or just buy generic psyllium husk instead of getting fleeced like a retard?

i'll probably just buy some of these instead, but thank you to the metamucil anon regardless for putting me onto this, didn't even know this existed
if I had another 500-750 calories to play with I could probably get enough fibre (with enough thought beforehand at least), maybe when I'm not 280lbs
>>
>>76736519
I'm the retard that first mentioned metamucil, never looked into generic psyllium husk but I can see it's much cheaper. Not complaining though, the metamucil in water tastes like juice so no regrets. Maybe I'll switch when it runs out. Thanks bro

I tried offbrand psyllium and it went all gel like and was horrible. Metamucil is pretty smooth for the most part. its not really that expensive for how much you get out of it.
>>
>>76736555
Metamucil and husks are retarded. If you need to buy these things it's because your body can't digest the food you're eating.

I mostly agree with this, once I started eating broccoli stalks too instead of just the florets it pretty much solved all of this for me and I didn't need to supplement fiber anymore. You just need to find a fiber source you like and if you get it in your regular food all the better. I used to just cut the stalks off and throw them out, but I tried eating them once and found they're just as delicious as the rest of the broccoli. I have no idea why I was throwing it out all these years, now I just chop them up and eat them with the rest of it and they've got a ton of fiber.
>>
>>76736573
Maybe I am just being a little bitch but I always reach a point where I cant eat stuff anymore. I dont think I would last with broccoli stalks
>>
>>76736460
just remembered red lentils exist maybe I should just put those in everything i eat
>>
>>76736576
Yeah its always going to be a matter of personal taste, I love broccoli stalks, I eat them like chips, I like the crunch, I like the thick fibrous texture, and I like the flavor. They're perfect for me, raw or cooked, but you're going to have to find what works for you.

That can be psyllium husk, that can be chia seeds, raspberries, beans, sweat potatoes, ect, lots of options out there, try stuff, see what works for you. I recommend real food over supplements, they tend to be more enjoyable, but if supplements work for you, you do you bro. I find psyllium husk to be very unpalatable and prefer to just get my fiber in my normal meals from my regular food.
>>
>>76736570
Your body doesn't need fibre. It all comes down to what your body can digest and our body was meant to digest raw animal products.
Even if you don't want to eat raw meat, organs and eggs, cooking them a little bit to make it more palatable will still do your digestive tract a world of good.
Animal products and wild fruits should be the only thing we eat but it's too unsustainable in today's world unless you want to live like a hermit (plus all our meat is contaminated to begin with and finding wild fruit is hard, apart from coconuts). At least make animal foods the bulk of your diet.

It will be very tight but it might be possible depending on how big you are if you manage to stick with it
That’s a big if though, I hate to not be motivational but that sounds downright miserable for 10 weeks, to be honest you might be better off just doing a long water fast instead of eating a bunch of chicken breast or whatever every few days
Make sure you research your shit and do it properly, get the right amount of electrolytes and if you feel like shit, tone it down
Godspeed

I also like zucchini cut up and thrown in the airfryer with a a bit of olive oil and also I like cucumber and pickles. I find it easier like you, just to have a small rotation of foods and stick with that. Once every two weeks ill grab a pizza, but thats just to break things up a little, I'm not exactly craving it.

Was anyone else a victim of foodie parents? Bloody hell I moved out a month ago and lost 5 KG, dieting is a casual thing now and it considerably less stressful now I'm not being scolded for it.

Pissed off by my parents for making me fat in my high school years tho
>>
>>76738029
Yes. My parents simply love watching me eat, i guess, so throughout all of my life they always made sure i ate a lot. It didn’t help that they didn’t know a thing about nutrition, so we always had ultra processed foods around the house too. When i moved out (college) i stopped eating all that to save money and realized for the first time that i’m not naturally fat lol, started shedding fat like crazy.

you stop buying food. nowadays i only but enough to sustain me for a day, it was the only way to stop me from binging. I got banned from delivery apps as well by abusing their refund policies, so that helped as well

>>
>>76738056
Yeah, i really have no clue. I love my parents, but i can’t deny i’ve had to catch up on a lot of things since i left their home. My relationship with food is very wonky - i can’t really eat carbs (other than potatoes and sweet potatoes, which are fine), since they get me hungrier and on a binging path. Fibers and protein are fine, so that’s what i try to eat everday. It took me a good while to learn what was best for me, but i’m truly astonished by how easy it was to lose weight once i let go of my parents’ diet. Now i just need to lose a few more kilos to stop being skinnyfat…
>>

Just work out. I’ve been in the best shape of my life just by working out 4x a week, walking at least 10k steps a day, and eating under 2500 calories. Even just eating 1,500-2,000 calories you will still gain muscle while losing weight. Anybody who says it’s more complicated that is trying to sell you something or wants to sound “cool” bc I know what to do and you don’t

>>
>>76738843
All you really need is free weights, a bench, and an pully system. Anything other that that, is unnecessary.
>>
>>76738840
Reality is an illusion, just look at it from the perspective of a future you that's already lost the 10kg. What is he doing? He's walking those extra couple miles a day, not eating the pointless sugary snack. He's hitting the weights. He likes what he sees in the mirror. Even his dick is looking bigger. It was worth the effort. But he was always going to do it and so are you. Just got to be him, but you are already him so its just a matter of time. Gotta keep going and do what you remember him doing.

If you're lifting on a cut do low reps. A lot less psychological stress, and you can increase volume significantly.
At the same weight, 8 sets of 5 reps is far better than 3 sets of 8.
Only problem is there is more joint stress which means you are better off sticking to calisthenics. Also it takes a lot longer to do a full workout.

I know this sounds passé but sleep as much as your body asks for. Listen to your body, some days you’ll need more sleep some days less. I guarantee if you’ve done it right that day you won’t wake up at 2-3 am and play on your phone
>>
>>76738902
It is complicated. Everyone is different, working under different circumstances.
>>
>>76738914
No. That routine works, and there is nothing stopping ANYONE from achieving great results using it. Even if you’re using 5-10lbs weights like some damn poojeet, you will achieve results if you keep it up

Nah, do what you want, why you want. People are just virtue signaling when they say that. They want to make their motivations seem more virtuous than yours even if your both ultimately doing the same action. Others are tempering their expectations because maybe they dont think they will get women even if they are fit, so they pretend that isnt there goal so they can't fail. And those that dont care about women and are secure won't bring it up to put you down for it.

How hard is it to retain muscle while dieting down? I'm worried I'll lose what little muscle I have if I am in too large of a caloric deficit.
>>
>>76739119
WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM
>>
>>76738825
You should go even earlier than that, seriously.
I used to be a night person, but I managed to force myself to be a morning person because that was the only time I could exercise. My bedtime is 9pm and my alarm is set for 5:30, and it's actually really nice once you get used to it.
Just consider that you only have a certain amount of free time in your entire day, and no matter what time you exercise it'll use a big chunk of that time. But using your mornings more efficiently just breaks up your time into two chunks rather than one. Remember, your exercise isn't removing your free time, it is your free time. It's a hobby. In between work, commuting, parenting, exercise and housework, I get maybe 30-60 minutes of free time a day. During which time I'm usually so tired all I can do is browse 4chan and watch YouTube. This is a normal lifestyle for healthy adults.

>>76738903
You need to be in bed attempting to sleep for 8 hours a day. Setting a goal of 6 hours will unironically fuck up your entire life. I got 8:36 of actual sleeping time last night (bed at 9, naturally woke at 5:52, a few wake ups when my toddler started kicking me). And that was just about right, but I would have preferred a little bit more. Or at least more deep sleep.
>>
>>76739154
>earlier than that
the gym i go to doesnt open until 6am either way
>>
>>76739154
You’re coming off like a nazi anon. At the end of the day the fact that our volk is even wanting to improve themselves is 98% of the battle. Everybody is different. Guide, don’t demand, and don’t be so fucking rigid. Not everyone here is ready for the SS o/
>>
>>76739166
I'm honestly not usually in the gym until 6am too. It just takes me a while to get out of bed, have breakfast, get changed and drive there. But if you're the kind of person who can roll straight out of bed into a workout, then waking up at 6 sounds good.
>>
>>76739130
not hard, just exercise regularly. you'll notice you aren't gaining strength the way you used to anymore but as long as you eat high protein and stay consistent you should still gain muscle slowly

Knowing what to do is easy. Actually doing it requires motivation and discipline, and thats where a lot of fat fucks trip up.

This. De motivation shills hate themselves, that’s why they lash out.

i don't know what I'd do on 1200 calories a day, no wonder they're all psychotic or fat
>>
>>76739339
so whats a better routine for a beginner? when i google them theyre almost all the exact same
>>
>>76739383
I did 1200-1300 for a while, it really ain't that bad.
250~ calories in the morning with protein shake and a 1000 calories meal for dinner (meat/carb/veggie heavy, low fat). Giving up cheese was the toughest part. Also chugging water before a meal gives me that full fat fuck feeling I would love when I was a fat fuck.
>>
>>76739325
your muscles are not going to get tired in the slightest with those low reps. 5 squats and then rest, repeat 5 times? might as well just not do them at all.
one of the best things you can do if you want to increase your muscle strength is to train until your muscles just fuck off. pick a set of exercises you'd want to do and try each of them with one rep but that rep has to be "whenever you can't physically do it anymore". subtract 5 and do that many reps times 3 sets as your baseline. you want to exhaust your muscles, not slightly tickle them.

>>76739303
I think the website has a specific cutoff point that's something like going down to 3x5 and then 3x3 after you've deloaded 3 times in a row, and then stopping the program after you've done that.
But in general, beginner programs just stop once you become an intermediate, which is basically just when you can no longer progress linearly.
>>
>>76739409
What gym do you go to
I am the only fat fuck at my gym
Every single fucking person there is ripped as fuck and all the girls there have the nicest bubble butts I've ever laid my eyes on
Pretty nice people and almost none of them record their workouts they just lift
I think I lucked out
>>
>>76739405
>>76739339
I'm going to hard disagree with these retards. SL5x5 is a good program, and if anything it has TOO MUCH volume (esp in squats) for proper recovery later in the program. These guys sound like the classic example of lazily following something which isn't the actual program, because they couldn't be bothered reading it. The most important part about SS/SL/GS is adding weight every single session. I guarantee that it will start feeling pretty hard pretty damn soon.

>t. Started out on SL, eventually moved to a modified version of GS with periodisation and accessories
>>
>>76739425
No gym. I went with calisthenics instead of putting money into a gym I am not gonna attend to every day.
10 years of neglect put me back on beginner level so I do inclined pushups and inverted rows, things like that. Looking forward to the day I can do a single pull-up.
>>
>>76739433
You speak as if you’re talking to someone who’s ever even been in a gym, fucking retard. It’s the same as somebody who says if you want a reef aquarium you need controllers and dosers and get your water levels professionally checked. Meanwhile the dude with a proper basic routine has healthy corals and fish. You’re over complicating things so that it seems intimidating. Go to one of the lifting threads. This is the fat thread. Just getting people into the gym is all the matters. Anything that seems complicated or intimidating is antithetical to that.

SS/SL/GS are good beginner programs specifically because they're simple and approachable.
You only need to learn the technique for a few exercises, and you start out with the empty barbell so you have time to learn the technique as the weight increases.

Can you show me an actual program (not some bullshit that you made up yourself) which is simpler than SL? Genuinely, I'm curious because I think I know quite a bit about lifting and I've never seen anything even remotely close to how simple these are, given that Rippetoe basically invented the entire concept that these programs all follow.

It sounds like you're disagreeing with yourself.
Earlier you said that you don't want anything intimidating, and now you're saying that beginners need to go to the gym more than 3x/week? The entire point of this is making sustainable habits that you can maintain for your entire life. You don't jump from nothing to 6x/week without massive impacts to the rest of your lifestyle.

I'm an intermediate lifter with a few years of experience, and even I only lift 2x/week nowadays. I'm just in maintenance while I focus on running 4x/week, but this kind of routine is not something that you jump into overnight.

>the constant emotional ping pong is taking a serious toll on me.

>>76739557
I think we’re taking past eachother. What im saying is having a solid workout plan (that never changes) and will get someone in VERY good shape is better than something that changes by weeks/ months/ diets/ WHATEVER. Consider it the framework that will get someone fit. If they want to do extra that can do extra, if they want to do less, they can do less, but if you follow that, you will see results. No additional research necessary
>>
>>76739514
Same, bro. I have a decent amount of savings and about 100k in credit card spending available. I'm gonna finish out my weight loss and if im still depressed I am going to quit my job and spend the next 6 or so months traveling Europe, Asia, and LATAM and just having sex and seeing the world before I end it.
>>
>>76739542
you are not fat on any scale but in your head, you need a psy
>>
You're all just spinning in circles with this work out talk. The one absolute truth for improving your fitness is progressive overload. You start anywhere you can and with time just seek slowly and progressively increase the load. It can be anything: more volume, moving faster (more power), moving more weight, moving for longer (more time). As long as you progressively overload over time your progressing. It's reductionist, but ultimately that simple.
>>
>>76739574
But every workout plan changes as you progress.
Your own program has you doing variable numbers of sets and reps. Without reading the rest of the program, I'm guessing it has you progressing with more reps each session until you can do 12, and then increasing the weight and dropping the reps back to 8 for next time.
>>
>>76739581
Based hedonism bro
>>
>>76739594
Uhm actually RETARD you dont even need to touch a weight to lose fat you just need to not eat
>>
>>76739596
No. Same reps same sets. If you leave you can pick up right where you left off. 4 sets of 12. Every single muscle group worked. Keep it SIMPLE, not gonna call you stupid bc you’re not, bro.
>>
>>76739609
Ah I was under the impression they were speaking about building musculature.
>>
>>76739609
This is 100% accurate. But it’s not quite that hard. Most people in America today get the lions share of their calories from drinks. Simply switching to water or tea can cause them to lose weight instantly

Hey guys, just wanted to double check I'm using the TDEE calculator correctly.

So I input the following
Age:27 (Male)
Height: 5'11 (71 inches)
Weight: 203lbs
Body Fat: 35% (Estimate as I don't have measuring tape rn)

I got a TDEE of 2,054, meaning I should be eating about 1,554 calories per day for weight loss. I've already eaten 705 cal today from an egg casserole and a coffee.
Does this look accurate?
