If you legitimately believe you're a food addict, look up Overeaters Anonymous. It's like Alcoholics Anonymous but for people with a food addiction.

My mother is a food addict (I inherited alot of her bad habits) who has been in OA for 20 years now. The weight loss isn't really the goal of OA, but she went from 300lbs deathfat to doing triathlon and running marathons in 10 years. It really works and can help you if you're truly addicted.

Nevermind the weight aspect. How can some people just never seem to seem to have eating that high in their priority list? There is no difference between fit me right now and obese me from years ago on how I view yummy food. The only reason I'm not obese right now is I know basic nutrition and deceloped decent cooking skills so I still eat like a fucking pig but for way less calories. I literally still stand in front of my fridge snacking on bullshit the same way I did when I was a fatass.

If you can stop yourself when you get the urge, the urge often passes pretty quickly

you eat something with tons of sugar.
that sugar makes your blood sugar go up very quickly.
your body reacts to the excess sugar by spiking insulin which tells your cells to take in the sugar
because these are both spikes, and because the body is not purely reactive but is also trained by your prior behavior, you get too much insulin and end up with lower blood sugar than when you started
low blood sugar makes you want to eat again. This feeling is not really a 'hunger pain'. Normal hunger is another hormone and it fades after about 30min.
so to get a healthier relationship with food, you can start to track and restrict things that spike insulin:
1. added sugar
2. sugars in general
3. carbs in general
there's a lot than this that you can do to change how your hormones behave by changing how you eat. The absolute easiest is to eat veggies (preferably), or proteins, before eating carbs, and then at least eating carbs with protein. Even eating a spoonful of peas one second before taking a swig of orange juice is better than taking the swig of orange juice first.
the second-easiest thing to do is to restrict the hours in which you eat food - "intermittent fasting".

after all that, just change your diet. The food is really the problem. If people took a single drug or a supplement that does what normal American food does to your body, it'd get banned. Change *what* you eat and the problem of changing *how much* you eat will become a non-problem on its own.
