First 1.5 years of lifting I disregarded the bench press. Now it's become my favorite exercise and I'm very close to reaching 2pl8 for repsIn half a year I've added 55 pounds to the bar
>>76738942>started benchin from day 1>in 6 months added 70 pounds>shoulder starts hurting, cant bench without discomfort
>>76738962Have you tried closing your grip until it's comfortable? Slightly narrowing my griped worked for me, 0 shoulder pain. Wide grip is however pure pain. I suspect there's a lot of individual variability here
>>76738962>>76738971Lay down the bar bro. Pick up a dumbbell. Do both the pressing and mobility with a dumbbell, try bar once a week.
>>76739046No
>>76739138Enjoy your lifelong disability you fucking clown. Your hand is clearly maladjusted, incapable of holding weight, and you are pushing through with more weight instead of making it stronger where it matters.
>>76739159>Enjoy your lifelong disability you fucking clown. Your hand is clearly maladjusted, incapable of holding weight, and you are pushing through with more weight instead of making it stronger where it matters. That is not the case, though.
>>76739162Do a proper press with a dumbbell and see for yourself, loser.Doubt you can bench half your bar with a dumbbell because you're a weak bitch cheating with tension of the bar itself.
>>76739175thanks for your reply, i wrote only >>76738962, the rest is some weirdo... i did start with dumbells instead and with those my shoulder feels great, also my pecs are more pumped etc... i just feel missing out not benching
>>76739188If you can't bench a specific weight with wide grip then you're just wasting your time.Pain is the only truth. Why even bench if it goes into your elbow and shoulder lol.
>>76739175Roidtranny are you ok? You seem a bit unhinged
>>76739215Pipe down lil bro, wide vs narrow grip on the bar is two different exercises and you are some DYEL who doesn't know the difference.Lay down the bar, pick up a dumbbell, get actually strong, retard.
>>76739220I recommend aromatase inhibitors to limit your estrogen conversion, anon. Too much estrogen causes mood swings
>>76738942Always loved the bench press. I use a football bar to do it these days.t. 375 natty
>>76739237>football baromg these looks so good, wouldnt they be much better for shoulders?
>>76739237not natty and dont care
>>76740105assmad dyel jeet
>>76738942I'm not trying to shit on you or discourage you or nothing but what the fuck have you been doing all this timehalf a year, 365/2/7=26+ weeks for 55 poundsyou're adding a pound per side per week? and this is your favorite exercise?if you're starting out and don't even bench 225, you can add 2.5lb a side every session. lock in
how do i dumbbell without it feeling weird? do i have to lose the ego and form train on embarrassingly low weights
>>76740528a person can add weight a lot faster than they learn proper form and their tendons and ligaments can keep up, it’s a hidden debt that accrues
>>76740528>I'm not trying to shit on you or discourageYou wouldn't be able to discourage me in the first place.Anyhow, I started at 155 pounds bench half a year ago and progressively have been adding weight and reps. Right now I'm at 210 pounds 3x3. I bench every 72 hours since that's what I found is best for me, less than that and I still feel too beat up. This also gives everything that isn't muscle proper time for recovery. After heavy bench I do pec flys and incline DB press with light weight. Has been working consistently, I've had no injuries and my chest has never been bigger.
>>76740550yeah that's not what's going on here, he said he's been lifting for 2 yearsyou're not a gymnast who's gonna snap your shit if you progress too fast. when I started out I watched some jeff cavaliere videos, did my facepulls and shit, checked my form a couple times with my phone, and hit 1/2/3/4 lifting alone without ever hurting myself while halfassing diet and sleepmost people are leaving reps on the table because they don't know what failure feels like and what form breakdown feels like
>>76740569ok then I'll be frank>210 pounds 3x3. I bench every 72 hours365/2/3=61 sessions to add 55lb as a beginner, and on like a third of the normal volume people are thinking ofsomething is going wrong here. if you care about aesthetics and strength and aren't powerlifting for numbers, I would swap to something with more total reps so you have more leeway, like 4x6 or something, deload a bit so you're starting from a position of strength, and go up 5lb total every session. you'll pump up your "1rm" strength numbers more anyway just by getting consistent gainsare you doing some kind of overhead or shoulder press on the same days?also figure out a way to safely bail the bar so you don't kill yourself in that basement, practice it a couple times
>>76740608Anon, I'm getting consistent gains and I'm not in any rush right now. When I hit diminishing returns I'll think of any adjustments neededI talk to /fit/ and sometimes I think I'm always talking to the same person: one that thinks he is always right, and that anything not done their way is wrong. It's tiresome.
>>76740626I don't know why you're taking this weary worldly condescending tone. if you're happy with adding less than a pound to the bar per session for 9 total reps while months away from hitting 2pl8, that's your prerogative, but for almost anyone that lifts that's alarm bells territory. your returns have already been diminishedI apologize for presuming you were interested in progression instead of just going through the motions and jacking off to the idea of yourself as a lifter
>>76740654>I don't know why you're taking this weary worldly condescending toneProjection. It's like I'm talking to a woman IRL, but worse. I never asked you for advice.
>>76740732>like I'm talking to a woman>210 pounds 3x3I feel the same wayI have a weary worldly condescending tone because I've been in your shoes and had many novice lifter friends before, and know you're making a mistake. you're acting like you've seen it all before when you're 2 years in with a dogshit bench making no progress and implicitly asking for congratulations and fraternal support. if you were talking to a woman I'd be giving you meaningless congratulations and telling you what a good job you did, instead of telling you to stop fucking up
