You have the body, so how do you show off those gains? For me, it’s the drums. Next year I will have a small garden as well.

How about you guys? I’m looking to pick something else up that doesn’t require massive startup costs.

Nothing worse than a neighbour with a drum kit.

I'm a mega plant autist and my gardening is widely considered to be very impressive. I do herbs and flowers out front with veggies out back for more practical reasons. You get to lift a lot of heavy shit and use lots of different types of tools. People are impressed by your lifting at the hardware store/nursery pretty much all season because for the first time they just lifted something and saw you do the exact thing twice as easily and with less chance of injury.
Mires from the neighborhood moms while I'm out working aren't exactly the mires I'm going for but every woman who's stopped by has been impressed and asked me a lot about the plants. The only problem with gardening and women is that sometimes there into it themselves and you mog them so brutally they don't want to talk about it anymore kek
>>
>>76742807
The only problem is how do you show off with an instrument, especially as just a hobby? Post videos online?
I've mentioned I play guitar and people always say they wanted to learn but nothing after that.
>>
>>76743506
I'd also like to add that helping elderly gardeners carry/move their heavy shit gets you a ton of points with nursery qts
Florists and nurseries have the qt-est women but I'm a plantfag so that's probably wildly biased

I live in Seattle so it's kinda easy to find hobbies.

I play Piano in my free time, lift obviously, I have plants with a grow light, I like to hike and this summer I bought my own paddleboard, which I used like 30 times already . I also really like live music, I saw Joey Valence and Brae a couple weeks back, and went to a candle light concert and Dimitrous Jazz Alley for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy last week. I also enjoy going to karaoke every week or so.

It's easy to be a dimensional male these days, just find shit you like to do .

I call libcucks names on the internet. It ain't much, but I feel like its necessary.
Also, I figured out how to chuck a pitchfork.
>>
>>76743565
I have dozens of guitar books and videos, but I haven't played seriously in a decade or so. I can only remember small segments of a handful of songs. Same with piano, but I play that more often.

I relate anon. Cooking is my hobby and few want to discuss their own cooking with me. It is usually just to pick my brain because I know so much. I get excited when they bring it up too, but then they realize there is a wide gap.

I'm a home cook myself. I was always fascinated with it and never knew food could taste good because my mom sucked at cooking. I imagine there are probably dishes that you couldn't fuck up if you tried. I'll never have as many reps as you.
>>
>>76743855
I’m confused. That’s what pico is, right? Perhaps they realized your skills were too advanced for the position they were hiring for.

Yeah, that and techniques and equipment and product you would never have as a home cook. I don’t miss it at all, but it’s nice that I have something useful I am able to do fairly effortlessly
>>

Equipment is catching up for the home cook. I have a lot of shit. Thousands of dollars in meme appliances too. I have tormek t7 and spinzall just to let you know how autistic I am

Literally, yes. I have never made it (because why would anyone make this) so I had to answer honestly. But I think I made it sound like I couldn't make it. I hate life and I hate job searching
>>
>>76743814
I never understood that attitude. You can learn a lot from even just listening to people who are better than you at something talk. Even better if they let you watch them do some while they're talking. Honestly, trying to pick their brain is usually stupid anyway because they would probably know what questions you need to be asking better than you do.
It's important to talk to people better than yourself on an unpretentious basis if you don't want to be a learnlet kek
>>
>>76743860
> there are probably dishes that you couldn't fuck up if you tried.
Not the anon you replied to, but for me it's eggs. I cooked thousands of eggs before I ever liked eating them myself. My eggs come out perfect every time. Same with bacon.

Bro. WHY. What kind of knives do you use? You seem responsible enough to own a high carbon steel and it sharpens effortlessly. I’ll probably never buy another knife again, but if I do, it will be made of high carbon steel. That is after 6-7 years of daily use and bi-weekly maintenance; the shape of the edge has definitely changed but it’s still more than adequate.

Can you explain more about the second thing you mentioned? Does it use centripetal force a bit like a centrifuge? Why do you need that?

Here is my definitive list of things for making 99% of things you’d get at a 3 star restaurant:
>chef knife
>utility knife
>ceramic honing rod
>1000/6000 whetstone (spend $100-200 on it)
>vitamix blender
>mid range food processor
>microplane
>kunz spoons (large for basting, and a small slotted)
>a $600 set of 3 ply pans (stainless with aluminum core)
>nonstick pan for eggs
>chnoise (fine mesh strainer)
>a kitchen scale
>deli containers (cup, pint, quart and lids)
>kitchen aid mixer (meat grinder/ice cream maker/pasta extruder)
>hand crank pasta machine
>silicon pad for sheet trays
>immersion circulator
>vacuum sealer

There, now you can make anything you see in your cook books

The older I get, the more I realize how pride/hubris is probably the single biggest thing that holds people back from being better people.

Humility will get you far.

Last summer I read the dune series. One of the things that stuck with me was that one character said about another "she is often too proud to extert herself in extending her capabilities". I definitely thought

That's badass, anon. I played hockey growing up and I've been thinking about joining an amateur league near me lately. It's a lot of equipment to have to buy but I've really wanted to play a sport again lately.

Anon, I don't spend money on literally anything else. This is the only thing besides general quality household items that I buy. The tormek I got used on facebook marketplace. It is so easy to use once you get the hang of it, and it will last me pretty much forever. Plus, my edge is perfect not just okay. Tbh I barely use the spinzall, but I bought it because I knew the guy may never make it again. Eventually I use all of my equipment. I'll list the stuff I have.
>custom carbon steel knife(present)
>zojirushi fuzzy logic(present)
>blentec blender(present)
>ice cream maker with compressor
>anova combi oven
>kitchen aid mixer(used sitting in brother's closet doing nothing and free)
>hand crank pasta machine
>anova circulator
>cheap chinese vacuum sealer
>high btu burner for wok
>ooni oven
Etc

I could list every tool, but those are the expensive things. You don't need any of them. The anova oven is my most used and favorite. Very cool and having a second oven is nice anyway
>>
>>76745136
Breville gave us their entire line of small appliances for free out of the blue because we were one of the newer and better restaurants in Seattle at the time, and man that little combi oven was the SHIT. Would recommend all their stuff, especially the food processor. It’s half the price of robot coup processors and it’s built like a tank

It definitely depends on where you live and the culture I guess of the local groups. If you don't know how to skate, you definitely have to start there. I would even get private lessons because it's not something you're going to pick up naturally or with video help. The skating is part of the hockey practice when you're a kid and I'm sure there are drills as adults to some degree, but if you can't even skate backwards properly you won't even begin to keep up/not get in the way.
Once you've got a pair of skates and you know how to use them reasonably well, just show up to the Stick&pick session. It's basically like pickup games/casual practice where everybody gets together and plays on a non-serious basis. You will now need the stick, the gloves, and some places require helmet. When you're there, you'll be able to get a feel for what everyone is like and if you'll even want to be around these people. If they're welcoming and helping you out/giving advice without acting annoyed with you, just keep going and make friends with the hockey guys. That always leads to playing hockey somehow.
