Machines *DON'T* build muscle, full-stop.
>>
machines are okay for spot checking like if you want to blast your pecs before a date but Op doesn’t have to worry about that
>>
>>76751537
They need more machines where it starts at the end of rom, im not trying to do bottom rom only or a normal 15rm. Shits sick though if you just cheat hard on the first rep since low reps dont strain tendons as much, mostly because ill do a more exaggerated faux neutral grip than is safe with freeweights.
>>
lifting doesn't build muscle, hormones do. see: women, op, etc.

Here's the thing anon, when you cheat, you only cheat yourself, who gives a shit? Lifting takes massive effort, and muscle moving the weight is only 20% of the equation.
>>
>>76751563
Idk what you're talking about. You usually want machine stops to be just outside the rom you intend to work in so at no point during the lift are you unloading the muscles. I see people do stupid with the ab machine constantly like set the weight all the way down on the stack before doing another rep it's no wonder people think these things don't work. Even that doctor Mike guy does it. Fucking why?

>this retarded free weights vs machine debate.

Look, they both work, but the best part about machines is it imposes proper form on you.
>>
>>76751668
If by "proper form" you mean "one-size-fits-all" form, then yeah. Even with adjustments, I've never used a machine at any gym I've been to that made go "yeah, this is perfect" in terms of rom, pathway and the like.
Machines are far from being useless, but the reason most gym favor them over free weights is that they're hard to fuck up and you can set a total noob on a machine based program in half an hour and send them their way. Also, even if you fuck up, you're less likely to get a major injury with machines than free weights.
With that being said and while I still prefer free weights over machines, assuming they're properly designed, they're usually very good at targeting specific muscles without hassle. You have to asses what you wanna get from a specific exercise and pick which is better for tgat specific goal, free weights or a machine.
>>
>>76751537
We can deduce that guy in the image has been training a minimum of two years, and it's implied that he's trained longer than that yet he looks like he's never been in a gym in his life.
>>
>walk up to machine
>do the little pin
>start working out

vs

>walk up to "rack" (not breasts)
>adjust size because a woman just used it
>find some "plates" (no food on them)
>slowly put "plates" on and on after each lift

I don't have time for this, I'm a very, very busy man.

machines need adjustments too. i'm a heavy heavy machine advocate but those who aren't expert in free weights don't know how to use machines very well since the same mechanics apply. these ppl never grow and stay the same shitty look all the time.
>>
>>76752312
Asinine cope, DYELs not putting in effort into mind in the gym doesn't make machines bad.
Mind-body dualism is a separate issue, and if you can't make them whole, I'm missing the part where that's my problem.

I don't roid so I don't benefit from benching, machine is better.
>>
there's a reason the most jacked guys at most gym rarely do free weights and almost never do shit like ohp or dl
they usually just occupy machines and focus on form + time under tension
no reason to risk your spine over made up lifting dogmas
this being said, I train at home and don't own a single machine
>>
>>76752476
I see most jacked guys in my gym do free weights all the time
>>
>>76752476
Survivorship bias, most machine hoarders look like they've never done physical activity in their life
>>
>>76752496
Also, jacked guys using machines doesn't mean that they haven't done free weights to build their mass in the past. Perhaps they made their muscles with free weights and now mostly use machines because they are not trying to put on more but are just maintaining what they have and minimizing risks.
>>
Redpill: your muscle growth in part depends on if you use the ROM correctly
Guys who say bench is shit for pecs just don't bench with their pecs properly
And any given machine might work great for you if it happens to fit your anatomy well and force you to use the target muscles properly
>>
>>76751543
Kek
>>
>>76752513
>bench is shit for pecs
There are two different bench presses and one is shit for pecs, it's not a ROM issue, you stupid DYEL, you don't understand basic fundamentals of lifting and have an opinion, fuck off retard

>Machines = Fixed Movement
Exactly. They will not only help you practice proper form, but will be safer and be more direct in targeting EXACTLY the muscle group you want and NO OTHERS. Plus, they're usually open, at the gym.

The POV is watching this other weirdo use the planet fitness machine? What the fuc
>>
>>76751537
If you are pushing your muscles to failure doing the highest reps possible you will have peak gains. Peak gains with lower chance of injury on a machine will always be better.

I use that exact machine and the regular chest press machine at planet fitness and don’t bench. Close to maxing them out both. I don’t even use the smith because I don’t like loading and unloading the plates. The last time I went to another gym and benched a couple months ago I repped 225 for 8. So much cope in this thread.

People talk about functional strength but I think it's more "functional" to use strength to exert force on levers and cables than to pick things up freely.

But either way it doesn't matter you can't get strong in one and not be strong in the other
>>
>>76753079
My strength has no function. I work a desk job and the heaviest thing I pick up is my wife who weighs lmao1pl8. The only thing that matters is how I look clothed or naked, and machines are great for that.
>>
>>76753087
>>76753079
Having strong muscles that prevent bad posture and other problems counts as functional strength, retards.
>>
The reason you thin machines don't build muscle is actually just because you are ignorant. Machines build sleek and smooth muscles. Free weights build blocky muscles that look like shit
>>

>>
>>76751537

>>76753810

>>
>>76751537
Nobody has ever said this, stop making imaginary enemies, also post body.
>>
>>76751642
Well yeah theres several different factors such as
>myofibrillar
>tendon
>cns
>formhacking
Im saying on barbell bench for example, you unrack at the top and can bounce the weight to do more, and load it up heavier than full rom so you can build inner chest more or delts/tris. Seal rows too, military press, squats, etc thats how you use tendons in the lift more but is usually how a roider will tear a pec.

Freeweights only are fine if youre advanced but as an intermediate/novice youll often find you strain tendons early in the session or lifting week and machines help gains in that sense a lot even with fixed rom/grip positions etc.

Machines do not give you proper form, they just severely limit your range of motion. You don't even engage in a "form" on a machine. You also don't engage stabilizing muscles as with free weights. Saying machines impose form is like saying tracing art imposes technique. It doesn't, you aren't learning shit or improving your lifting technique, you are just moving a weight along a pre-set path.
>>
>>76755346
>you are just moving a weight along a pre-set path.
This works for 95% of people.
I've been learning about lifting for a year without PT or literally anyone helping me to make sure that my form is correct, and I can't blame anyone for not willing to put in this much effort into it.
>>
>>76751563
how would you build a machine like that for pushing kek
>>
>>76755346
What are you training for? I fucked around for years trying to perfect my form on deadlifts and squats only to realize that despite having good leverages and exceptionally good form on those exercises, they injure me. I stayed small, weak and no-one gave me an award for best execution of five consecutive barbell squats. "Le machines bad" is the elitism of people that have no life outside the confined space of the public gym
>>
>>76755351
>>76755398
Machines are good if you just want to build impressive looking muscle, I will give it that. If you want true strength, you need to use free weights. Take two people of the same height and weight, one who just uses machines and the other who uses free weights, get them to wrestle, see how the free weights user will absolutely wreck the machine user because the core strength difference is insane. The free weights user might look smaller but they have hidden muscle mass.

But yeah, not knocking machines just saying that if you do want actual strength you will have to pick up a barbell once in your life.
>>
>>76755409
Anyone who can lift 5kg can hold a handgun and shoot you in your torso, faggot.
>>
>>76751668
>is it imposes proper form on you
Only if you consider improper form to be proper form.
Not only do machines force you along a curvature which may not be natural due to an individual's size, but Smith machines actually give you BAD form on squats because it's a straight slide down instead of using your core to brace yourself like when you do it naturally.

Machines are for dyels and boomers.
>>
>>76755411
>muh being weak and not knowing how to fight is ok cos I can use a le gun
Not even going to get into that tired, beta ass debate with you DYELtard.
>>
>>76755422
Nobody cares how much you lift, there's 100% chance that you never trained your neck and I could kick you in the head and you'd die before you fell down to the ground.
>>
>>76755424
I don't believe that someone who uses machines has trained themselves in martial arts to the extent that they could execute a perfect kick to the head. I bet you can't even touch your toes. You admit to being a machinefag DYEL who things he can just rely on having a gun, so don't LARP like you actually know how to fight. I could have your arms behind your back and have you pinned to the floor helpless in five seconds flat. Maybe you can scream "muh guns" and "muh kicking" while I claim your bussy and remove your status as a man forever.
>>
>>76755433
I never trained myself in martial arts, I just know that all you can do is puff out your chest and scream like a woman while I will just swing towards your head without saying a word and you will regret ever being such a massive faggot.
Once it connects, you will try to talk about honor or fairness or I was just joking bro, but your jaw will be unable to move. Enjoy your hospital bill, nigger, learn how to act around humans without chimping out next time.
>>
>>76755409
Any lift that allows me to handily-dandily approach muscular failure as close as pragmatically possible is good in my book. There's nothing I do outside gym that benefits from specific movement patterns with free weights more than general joint movements with machines. I don't want to do three CNS-thrashing sets of conventional DL when I can opt for three sets of stop-and-go style stiff-legged deadlifts. Still pretty taxing but more mechanisms in play that ensure hypertrophy. Before that I do hack squats. If I were to do regular-ass squats and dl's in the same day I'd have to do strength-training style fatigue management, which interferes with hypertrophy-focused volume goals or I'd crash out of CNS fatigue before getting to the third lift of the day.
Adding stability to lifts via machines does not mean you have to sacrifice form or range of motion. I gain nothing from training my form on lifts that I never replicate outside the gym

Mine has a power rack, two squat stands on oly platforms and a smith machine. There's nothing more dreadful than waiting in line to lift so I always either reorganize my lift schedule to fit to available equipment or I substitute a lift with an alternative.
There's no mandatory unique stimulus in the lifts, I can cross the growth threshold in many different ways, no need to get sperg out about specific movement patterns. Sure specializing in a lift makes for CNS (deboonked lmao) gains that allow for better muscle fiber activation and thus approaching failure is easier, but whatever. I'll be at the gym again in a few days.
