Do multivitamins and supplements actually do anything, or are they a scam? Will they actually improve your health if you have deficiencies or an unoptimal diet? If so, what do you recommend?
>>
this question is way too broad to answer. theres also endless discussion about specific forms of vitamins, synergies, absorbtion related factors and so on. anyone who says "supplement x is god given" or "no lol theyre all a meme" is a brainlet who thinks they've figured it all out. if you have a specific problem, read on what people have used for it, dont just order random shit.

as far as my own experience goes, l-theanine gave good focus but i didnt need it, ashwagandha improved physique but made me a zombie, and vitamin b5 megadosing cured a lifelong acne and has been the best investment in my life
>>
I only take magnesium and caffeine pills as supplements. Caffeine as pre-workout, magnesium after the workout with some real food.
I never get diarrhea after taking magnesium, so I know that I'm not taking too much.
>>
taking anything that you can't overdose on is nothing more than a scam to piss your money away
>>
I genuinely believe supplements are more than likely to fuck up your vitamin/nutrient balance than they're to help u

So basically they have either 0 effect, or a negative effect

I am starting to see damaging information on even basic supplements most people take like vitamin C and vitamin D, that they may be doing more harm to you than good

I use to think Vitamin D was a "super hack" to get vitamin D without having to expose my skin to radiation from the sun, but turns out the Vitamin D you get naturally does many more things than the man-made vitamin D provides, and you're not actually getting the benefits from taking a supplement, other than causing weird micro-nutrient/vitamin imbalances
>>
>>76758247
You can overdose on water.
>>
>>76758248
sun vitamin d is a meme, and so is the artificial/natural distinction. vitamin d(3) is like one of the few things actually worth supplementing, the real bs is all of the random indian plant extracts like tongkat ali
>>
>>76758252
If sun vitamin d is a meme explain why white people are so good at producing it compared to "equator" people. Must have been some sort of evolutionary advantage there
>>
>>76758258
melanin inhibits it
>>
>>76758258
dark skin is more about protection than white skin is about vitamin d, hence why arctic peoples have darker skin because they have high vitamin d diets.
but yes enhanced vitamin d production from sun WAS an evolutionary advantage, since diets didnt always provide enough, that doesnt mean that this is how it has to be today, just like nature optimized for back hair and catabolism but not to preserve head hair and grow big ass lats fuarkkk
>>
>>76758248
Good thing reality doesn't operate on what you believe.
>>
>>76758215
All supplements are barely bioavailable and heavily processed, you can get most of what you want by not eating like a complete moron
They're all sugary placebo pills
>>
>>76758316
Your scientific studies on supplements (sponsored by Dr Vitaminstein isn't reality either, dumb goyim
>>
>>76758334
Thanks for just further proving my point that your train of logic is rooted in absolute nonsense and tribalism and nobody should listen to you.
>>
>>76758339
Not him, but if you look at ingredients of most supplements, you will find that they're using low quality slop.
E.g. magnesium supplement, look inside
>magnesium oxide
it's a laxative, not ATP transport enhancer, in a way, he's right, because diarrhea will make you lose micronutrients, and you would be better off not taking such supplement at all
Most people don't know the difference.
>>
>>76758348
People not looking at labels doesn't mean supplements are ineffective. That's like saying that food is unhealthy because you chose to buy fruity pebbles instead of chicken breast.
>>
I haven't looked into the science, but all I can say is I feel better when I take them. I usually feel less tired and irritable. What I take is a generic multivitamin, vitamin D3, zinc, and magnesium. I take them every other day but it's not a big deal if I don't take them. I would just try taking them every other day for a few weeks and see if you feel a difference or not.
>>
>>76758353
>food analogy
No you retard, it's like buying chicken breast but getting bull foreskins instead.
>>
the only ones actually worth using:

>D3 + K2
>zinc
>boron
>magnesium glycinate
>creatine
>>
>>76758215
yes they do
yes
magnesium, vitamin d3, zinc and copper
>>
>>76758215
What's funny about supplements is that they want you to rely on supplements for part of your diet so you have to make more supplements to fill the holes created by not eating real food

If you eat a varied diet of meat, dairy, whole grains and vegetables, you DO NOT need multivitamins

If you eat no meat, mainline protein powder all day and eat garbage like donuts and whatever else, yes supps could help but it would be better to just do better with your diet

Supplements that actually help:
Creatine
Caffeine
Panax ginseng/rhodiola
Zinc(only helps some people)
Chromium (do not take if you struggle to gain weight)

Beyond those, just get your 0.8g of protein for every pound of lean mass you have from meat and dairy, eat whole grain breads and get plenty of veggies and you'll have plenty of all the nutrients the suppjew is trying to sell you

>>76758426
Yeah, it's nothing like that, so

multivitamins are $10 for 200 tablets. if you get even just a slight benefit from taking it daily, are you so poor that you can't afford 5¢ per day ?
>>
>>76758215
Idiots will never know the importance of anything unless you go to the far extremes. Meaning some people will only know the true value of vitamins unless they are actually deficient in it and face serious health consequences from it.
When things are going right, people tend to think nothing is happening at all and not needed.
>>
>>76758215
scam
if you need vitamin supplementation you are either ill or you need to change your diet
the idea of buying a remedy instead of fixing the source of the problem is utterly deranged and idiotic

not only that, but you will suffer dysbiosis if you just eat processed food
100% scam
>>
>>76758439
>>76758532
all supplements are scams
>>
>>76758348
magnesium oxide is literally the ONLY commonly used bs ingredient. this is a valid point but literally all else common supplements dont have this problem.
>>
>>76759400
I hope you're paid to cope this hard.
>>
>>76759400
Thiamine hydrochloride would like a word with you.
>>
>>76759447
No idea what thiamine is for but
>waterweight diluting a raw powder
there's nothing more despicable than that
>>
>>76758215
I started taking multivitimins earlier this year and my mood immediately perked up, so I'm pretty sure I was deficient in something.

i dont know what youre refering to, thiamine has a low bioavailability but thats whether you get it from food or supplements

Normies be like...
>*buys shittiest normie vitamin supplement*
>*goes from eating barely enough to more than enough*
>*notices zero effects*
>"SUPPLEMENTS R SCAM!"
If you have diet skill issues, you probably also have supplement skill issues. The best supplements are entirely unnecessary and non-essential, but they extensively modify your body's protein expression.
>>
>>76761119
This was already covered. Read the thread before posting
>>
>>76761099
in the case of low thiamine thats just a problem between your gut and the vitamin itself, it has nothing to do with supplement. magnesium oxide is retarded because it doesnt occur in living beings and cant be absorbed well. in the case of thiamine its the same damn molecule as in "real food" and its bioavailability is the same as in "real food". low bioavailability itself isnt even a bad thing, as long as you get enough
>>
>>76761501
I didn't read past your first sentence because it's just objectively false. There are more absorbable forms of thiamine, hydrochloride being the least absorbable, And the most common, as a standalone and as an ingredient in multivitamins. That's what the discussion is about. Low quality, low bioavailable forms of vitamins being included in supplements.
>>
>>76761501
>thiamine hydrochloride occurs in nature
