Can someone explain to me the basics of Competitive Wrestling?
>>76762168i.e. technique, scoring, manuevers and such. i started watching casually for the qt3.14's in korean women's wrestling but it actually looks like a cool sport.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freestyle_wrestling#Match_scoringBasically the objective is to take your opponent down, control them on the ground, and pin their shoulder blades to the mat. Scoring is based on how close to pinning your opponent you get, such that if neither manages to secure a pin within the time limit, it can be decided which player was more dominant during the fight
>>76762259sounds sick, anybody here either wrestle or consider themselved an avid fan?
>>76762757I tried wrestling (freestyle) as an adult (over 30). No background experience Very difficult sport. Probably the most difficult sport you can do. The conditioning is tough. The risk is high. You can get thrown on your head and break your neck. You can fall wrong and break something It was fun. It's a rush. You will feel like you are going to die from exhaustion and puke after sparring. Unless you do it as a child and compete it's pointless. Know the basics but practicing it you have to be unironically built different desu
>>76762845yeah it seems like all women i'm a fan of have been doing it since they were young. seems very fun and challenging.
>>76762845Interesting... so a really rough sport.
>>76762965>>76762757seems that way for sure
>>76762757i wrestled for 4 years, i was considered good. folkstyle though which is what they do in high schools in the usa, it has different rules from freestyle and greco roman. you can win by score or pin. the match is separated into rounds, in the first round wrestlers start in neutral position, both standing. the goal is to take down your opponent which gets you 2 points, a take down is bringing them down to the mat and having "control" which is kinda subjective but it makes sense once you've done it or seen it. once you've taken down your opponent, your goal is to expose their back to the mat, where you can get near-fall points, 2 or 3, or a pin, also kind of subjective but it's based on time of back exposed to mat and whether the shoulder blades are down. if you get taken down, your goal is to escape, which is worth 1 point, or reverse, which is worth 2 points. a reversal is rolling or otherwise taking control of your opponent when on the ground. wrestling stops at the end of a round, in the 2nd round there is a coin flip, the winner decides if they want to start in top/bottom/neutral. there is an alternate start as well, but basically bottom starts on all fours, top mounts them with 1 arm around the belly, the other nestled on the elbow, as if they had taken them down, no points are awarded for this however, if the bottom wrestler escapes or reverses, he gets points, the top wrestler has to get back points, some wrestling awards points for "riding," which is controlling your opponent from the top position, and there is also "riding time," which is used as a tiebreaker in some rules. neutral is starting standing. there is an alternate start which the top wrestler can opt for, which is starting standing with hands on the back, basically conceding your opponent an escape point without putting yourself at risk of reversal, there are many people that specialize in the bottom position, seeking to gain advantage with reversal points.
>>76763262in the 3rd round, the wrestler that lost the coinflip chooses how to start. neutral is starting in standing position like the first round by the way. what you choose in the coinflip is based on what kind of wrestler you are, some people are good at takedowns, others are good at riding and pinning, others are good at escaping or reversing.if you get 15 points ahead, you win by technicality. at the end of time, the person with the most points is the winner. there are various moves and techniques that people practice, takedowns, pinning techniques, reversals and escapes, these often have names and you can find them online. you don't need to know all the moves, but you do need to know some, and the more you know and are skilled at, the more situations you can exploit to your advantage, the more dangerous you are to your opponent. for example in the neutral position there are leg takedowns which work the low body, trips, throws, and other techniques like wrapping up your opponent or gaining leverage in a clinch. every wrestler is different, has different style, prefers different moves, and there is a great variety of them.it's a really fun sport, but it's very difficult, there are strict weight classes and people get as fit as they possibly can and try to get to the lowest weight class typically, the person you wrestle will often be an incredibly efficient athlete, the farther you go in the sport the truer that gets.
>>76763262>>76763282>>76762925awesome thank you! do you watch the sport these days? the women's? seems like a combination of strategy, athleticism, and also intentional/meticulous problem solving, interestingly enough.
>>76763262AutisticNo one asked
>>76762977why does everything involving asians look autistic
>>76763391no, i don't watch. last wrestling i watched was the college championship a few years ago.>strategy, athleticism, problem solvingthat's exactly what it is. and it sounds like you really enjoy it. happy for you. gonna be honest i prefer watching mma to wrestling, but i don't watch very much of that either. there's a lot of wrestling in that as well. much of wrestling though is irrelevant in a world where you can strike and that putting someone on their back isn't the objective, but there's still plenty of wrestling in mma.
>>76762168>tfw no wrestler asian gf to force me to have sex with herWhy even live
>>76764162gotcha, i've dabbled in mma just a bit. i had a good friend in college who wrestled for most of his life but i never really asked too much about it. he got pretty into mma -- seems like that's a sport much more reflective of an actual real-world combat acumen. that said, i think i enjoy competitive wrestling's combination of tactical and atheltic abilities in the context of attacks and counter-moves a bit more. i spent last night watching some old highlights of Saori Yoshida and did a deep dive comparing and contrasting her style and approach to Akari Fujinami's. probably the two GOATs among women wrestlers. japan is just so dominant there - it probably goes back to the early investments they made in the sport for women in the 80's and 90's and the culutral aspects such as bushido, quiet/calm emotional regulation, and hardcore discipline in preparation and execution. it amazes me how both Yoshida and Fujinami embody a quiet yet powerful competitive spirit and true honor along with humility. this is what i think i enjoy most about competitive wrestling so far. idk i just think competitive wrestling has more of that than MMA which seems to have become more sensationalized, and about larger than life personas. then again that's probably just a cultural east-west difference but idk. the sports are different so maybe they just select for fundamentally different personalities or value systems among the elite performers. anyway, with mens -- i have only seen the NCAA championship match trump was at. it looked fucking awesome and i remember that being a dramatic and emotional win. (maybe even almost on the level of when Helen Maroulis beat Saori Yoshida and ended her 16-year undefeated streak?) in any case, i'm literally developing a serious thing for this sport and it all started with korean qt3.14's LMAO.
>>76764338>tfw no wrestler asian gf yeah, it's a daily torment i bet. my girl is chinese and used to box. she's got some serious leg strength tho and likes putting me in scissor holds and whatnot. sometimes she'll get her old boxing gloves out and gimme a little beatdown, which is lovely. ofc tho, it's nothing like what i'd experience from a pro but then i really enjoy it nonetheless and she's pretty fucking strong, especially her legs. some women have insanely strong lower bodies and she trains legs consistently. if you must know, there are places in the world, mostly japan, where you can get WRECKED AND DESTROYED by actual current and former MMA, kickboxing, boxing, Jiu Jitsu, karate, and Judo women athletes for a little $. :) when i was in Tokyo a bit ago, i wanted to go -- but it was our first ever trip together and we had so much else to do and see. so i figured trying to squeeze it in plus the explaining and asking wasn't worth it. thing is, as she grows her body and opens up more and more to enjoying this type of kink, i may be totally happy with only my gf in this regard. it's just that she was never at the pro or semi-pro level in any sport. still tho, i'm grateful for what i've got. :D pic related is a former MMA fighter in the Deep Jewels circuit since retired. she's still got serious grappling chops. <3
>>76765718also before i head out for the day i just wanna say that, as of the time of this post, Akari Fujinami has just won the U23 world title in the 57kg, extending her 145-match winning streak since her last loss in 2017 in a national junior high championship. so yeah, her current streak is 145 straight wins, and with years of overwhelming dominance. if you watch Akari what you'll notice is a combination of total mental control and calm, agility and creative yet fine-tuned/disciplined technique, and a total mastery of blazing-fast fluid combination attacks and counters. she's probably my favorite woman wrestler right now, even tho i'm not japanese. and it's not just how dominant she is but her style is so amazingly fun to watch.master tactician, samurai warrior, & certified qt3.14. :D
>>76765763the fact that she can just overwhelm and WRECK her opponents and simultaneously look like this is just the cherry on top.
>>76764105>>76762977why does everything u say seem so resentful?
>>76764103>no one asked yes they literally did
bumping for asian wrestling cuties and their workout routines + clips.
>>76762168I don't really get wrestling.I grappled for years in different styles, but in wrestling people always try to do some gay little move and it's always negated by just being stronger or larger.Had a dude try to armbar me once and he couldn't get my arm straight because the moment he tried to lean backwards i'd pivot slightly and roll his legs from my face while turning in enough for the socket to not rip.You could get a rear naked choke, but you better be larger than me on that also.
>>76768605>it's always negated by just being stronger or largertrue. I muscled and conditioned my way through, was never very technical>>767627572x hs state champwent d1 and quitregret it every day
>>76762168Is it expensive to pay a few of these past their prime Japanese wrestlers to get drunk with me and wrestle? Id pay good money to roll around with them
>>76769067>>76765749idk how much it is nowadays but i recall it being rather reasonable actually. the place i was thinking of going mostly has former mma fighters and jiu jitsu black belts as opposed to competitive wrestlers. that said, there have been a few and many of the ladies are extraordinary grapplers for sure anyway. :)
>>76762168Wrestling is an outlet for non sexual homosex
>>76768828>2x hs state champWhat do you do now? I was an elite swimmer, picked up kickboxing later. I stick around the fitness community out of comfort and familiarity, a lot of times I feel like I'm wasting my time.
>>76769999I NEET in my mid30s and contemplate suicide. Shit went WRONG. I was smart and had Chad looks too. Mental illness, man.I've been telling myself I'm gonna compete again, and I win the boomer division when I go to tournaments, but becoming Olympic tier pushing 40 is uh, a long shot
>>76769999But! I head coach a high school. That's fun but feels really hard at the moment
>>76768828>2x state champ sheesh how were u not drowning in wrestler girl puss?? or were you?
>>76762168Fuck wrestling I'll ko someone in one jab
>>76762168Judo is better for newbs
>>76771373ever tried it? i'm listening.
>>76771041It was 20 years ago and there were few girls in the sport. Also mentalcel, socialcel despite being jacked and handsome
>>76772282ah gotcha, the girls in wrestling nowadays are such qt3.14's! i assume the few around back in your day were less so.
