Have any of you had hernia spine surgery ? any advice ? I have tried everything and I have to do surgery now but I'm a big scared baby...

are your tits big? if so please give discord

I had herniated discs L5-S and L4-L5. Due to the extent and the location, I had to get a spinal fusion. The surgeries and the stay at the hospital is hell. The week following is hell-lite. If you live on your own, definitely prep instant food and a chair for your shower and bars for your toilet. The pain starts to let up after the first week but you're still highly immobile and spend all day in bed so have entertainment ready. I took 6 weeks off of work, see if they have an employee leave donation program if you don't have enough. Since they went through my stomach for one level, I have a huge scar below my belly button almost to my dick and because they move nerves around I developed retrograde ejaculation. It sucks but I had groin pain and ED from the bad back anyway so it's a fair trade off and there's still hope it can recover over months or years. If have only one level done you can have a disc replacement which is not as intense as a fusion, less recovery time and you keep more mobility. If you're fucked like me and have to get the big surgery then you just have man up and get through it. Life was misery before and now 4 months later I'm doing a lot better. It takes a year for the major healing to get done so patience is key. Good luck and hope you have money put aside because the hospital stay isn't cheap.

I'm really sorry to hear how much you've suffered. I'm glad you're better now. My back pain started when I turned 18 and has progressively gotten worse, now I'm getting the backpain ED, I used to hope it would get better with my physiotherapy and all but it got worse and I can't sleep even with painkillers. Mines l4-l5 and l5-S1, both of the fuckers popped but don't heal. I wanted to avoid surgery at any cost but nothing has worked.
I think I'm a candidate to get the keyhole discectomy but the doctor I spoke to thinks it's cringe and would rather just open my back.

Disectomy works for disc bulges but if your discs are herniated and the structure of your spine is compromised then it's not enough. Disc replacement was also denied and after looking into it there's not enough stability to hold up your upper body at that level for two. My doctor gave me the option of having a disc replacement for the worse one and leaving the other for later or having both done with a fusion. Even though fusion at a young age has a high likelihood of developing adjacent disc disease, I went with that because I couldn't leave my sacral nerve entraped and destroying my groin. There are tough choices to be made for sure, there are tradeoffs for any choice you decide on.

I don't know how bad my structure got affected, the doctors never mentioned it but my lumbar is straight as a pencil

tried lifting weights and idk, maybe stretching?

tried like you wouldn't believe. Read every book on spine health and optimal movement mechanics I could. Can't walk or even do bicep curls without my back hurting

>optimal
lol that's where you fucked up lil bro. try lifting weights and not being a pussy obsessing over how wrong you're doing everything and how messed up your back is. back pain is mostly in your mind. so-called authorities like stu mcgill only exist to keep people weak and in pain.
>>
surgery should be the alternative to an hero, you shouldn't take surgery lightly, because surgery will permanently alter your spine forever, for better or for worse.
>>
>>76765211
I became more careful because when I did try to move anyway and tell my back to fuck off it got infinitely worse
>>
>>76765233
I know, I hate the idea but it's been 4 years of going from physio to physio, trying every method I can find, even tried spine injections. Back doesn't care, just keeps decaying like a bitch
>>

if the problem is progressing, that means your physios are doing nothing.

You need to teach yourself proper form and proper posture. Understand the difference between hip hinging and spinal flexion / extension.

Orthopedic surgery isn't very good, they will cut through muscles that you need to stabilize yourself and damage those muscles, if you're not lucky they'll also damage nerves. 4 years isn't a whole lot of time for herniation, you're looking at 10-15 years of recovery.

That's what I've been thinking too for the past years but despite trying 8 physios and focusing on hinge and flexion it keeps getting worse. It's like my spine doesn't care what I do. Before at least I could still hope to get better but now I can't sleep without painkillers and my dick and balls are giving up. For reference my chud lumbar.

I also hate the idea of getting surgery it's terrifying but all my movement rehab efforts were just punished by my back, even the mcguill big 3 manage to piss off my back

i broke my spine when i was 22, it took me over 10 years to heal and stabilize it, and i still have pain.

My spine is literally broken, but if you read at the bottom, it's stable in flexion and extension, due to me properly rehabbing it.

spondylolisthesis is the most devastating back injury you can sustain, other than straight up hard trauma like shattering the spine in an accident.

you sound like a histrionic bitch. from just the way you type I can tell it's all in your mind 99% and you shouldn't get anykind of surgery.
>>
>>76765330
the backpain made me like this dude. It punishes you for anything and everything
>>
>>76765297
that's insanely impressive, holy shit,
did you get radiating pain to your legs too when that happened ? What exercises did you use to stabilize ?
>>
>>76765353
since im extension intolerant, I trained in flexion, so pretty much a lot of ab work and also rotational work as well. Also proper posture.
>>
>>76765405
did you feel better after the workouts you did in flexion or was your back sensitive and sore but better the next day ? And what do you mean by proper posture how did you achieve that ? as in standing straight or something extra ?
>>
>>76765416
what would mostly happen is that i would get lazy and not do my exercises, then I'd do something that would require me to stand up for a while and then yeah I would be sore the next day, and if I continued exercising, the soreness would eventually go away when I would do the same amount of standing previously that would make me sore.

The biggest thing for pain was losing weight, and then I sleep with a wedge under my legs, so my hips are flexed, instead of exacerbating spinal extension by laying flat.

As for proper posture, i mean proper posture while standing, while lifting, while sitting, all the time. If you are someone that has back pain, you don't get the privilege of having bad posture, you just need to practice good posture all the time.
>>
>>76765431
Ah I see, I've been sleeping with a wedge for about 2 years but now even that isn't comfortable and my back is killing me regardless and I can't get a full night of sleep, hence me considering surgery. I also have almost no excess fat to lose to make it better. But maybe I should focus more on my exercises with a neutral spine since both extension and flexion seem to hurt me. Thanks for your advice. Did you also have it that previously safe and helpful exercises progressively became more painful and uncomfortable ? I've had this with almost all the exercises that helped for a bit...
>>
>>76765458
if its a little painful the next day and then resolves, its probably not pain that you should worry too much about, the standard is a 3-5 out of 10 in pain, although you shouldn't push into pain, you should get to the point of pain and then stop
>>
>>76765484
I meant more as in exercises that before didn't piss of my back are fine for a month. Then suddenly the moment I do one my back starts hurting and goes "nuh uh" I've had this with every exercise that helped before instead of being able to keep progressing.

>Feel very lucky, she's great
>But tfw isn't a sexy-attitude lady who makes smug expressions or anything fun like that
Its not like I'm about to leave her over it or anything. Just can't have it all. Thank you for reading this stupid ass blogpost and I genuinely hope whatever you read next is more worthwhile.
