Lately I’ve been seeing people talk about water fasting, literally not eating anything, just drinking water for a day or more. Some go 24 hours, some do 3 days, and a few even go for a whole week.I’m curious, has anyone here actually tried it? What was your experience like?I’ve read that water fasting can supposedly help your body enter autophagy (cell cleanup and renewal), reset your metabolism and improve insulin sensitivity, improve mental clarity once you get past the hunger stage and boosts fat burningBut I’m not sure how much of that is real vs placebo.
no that's dumb
>>76769472Do it for a day and experience what it does for you yourself
>>76769472>drinking waterenjoy your isobloat, deuteritard
>>76769472u dont have to do long fast btw... Procházka does 20 hour fast with 4 eating window after a match to regenerate faster... 16-8 works also (but less of course, every hour fasting counts)
>>76769581>20 hour fast with 4 eating windowso he doesnt fast actually?
>>76769588research show u start "fasting" after 10-16 hours, so you could say he is in the fasting state aprox 5-10 hours every day while still eating the calories he needs... i dont think you know more then the top tier mma athlete with a team behind him
>>76769472I've done a 3 water day fast before. It's definitely an experience. By day 2 you can feel your senses are tuned up to 11. Like all of a sudden you can see, smell, hear, and feel in high def. The autophagy thing though is massively overrated because you're doing it all the time already. If you weren't you'd die within a few months. If you want to increase the rate you can get all the benefits of fasting by doing some hard cardio. Also theres the muscle loss factor to consider. Muscle protein synthesis is boosted mostly from lifting and eating protein. Muscle protein breakdown is lessened by increases in serum insulin levels. Fasting pretty much guarantees muscle loss unless you have a lot of body fat. It won't be a lot of muscle loss unless you do something wild like a 7 day fast or something but it'll still happen. If that's not a concern for you then it's definitely worth doing at least once for the mental and emotional benefits. When you break a long fast do it with protein and fat. A huge influx of carbs after no input for days can mess with your potassium and ADH levels
>>76769472at least take some vitamins, retard
>>76769677I'm 60 pound overweight and I want to do a 7 day fast. I was gonna do it with HGH and electrolytes so i dont lose too much muscle.
>>76769743I'd honestly recommend just doing a proper cut losing 2lb a week while maintaining or slowly improving your lifts instead of that, or if you're set on doing something fast and extreme, do the rapid fat loss diet Lyle McDonald made in full. A 7 day fast would at best net you 5lb of fat loss, which is a lot, but you could lose 4lb of fat a week on a modified PSMF and still get to actually eat something
>>76769766Shut up faggot
>>76769766fuck off idiot
Fasting was normal was pretty much the entirety of human history. People didn't have access to daily food even a hundred years ago so going without for 3-4 days as hunter gatherers was normal and our bodies have adapted to it so anyone saying it's harmful are retarded

>>76769472I did 72 hours just last month and found it surprisingly easy. I didn't feel hungry at all, there was only the occasional thought or urge to eat that was easily ignored. I was taking in some saltwater with potassium and magnesium supplements which probably helped. The problem was when I started feeding again, I broke the fast bang on 72 hours with some protein powder, a little honey and peanut butter and my usual vitamins I hadn't taken during the fast, but the next morning I sharted myself pretty badly on the way to work. Then I needed to do some lifting so tried to feed at maintenance for the day and just before bed I could feel a ton of shit surging through my guts. I only just made it to the toilet before a load of diarrhoea exploded out my arse.
>>76769743Don't listen to this dumb fuck, digestion takes a huge amount of energy. When you stop eating and your digestion clears your body can focus other things like fighting infections and cleaning up dead cells. Think about it like this, when you're sick you lose your appetite for the same reason.
Okay but how can you lose muscle on a fast if GH spikes at the start of a fast
>>76769472i did when i was in school and doing clinical rotations. fasted focus was unmatched and it also heightened senses. but in terms of bodybuilding, it is the worst you can do.
Does black coffee break fasting?
>>76770520Protein is required for a lot of processes in the body, like for example repairing heart tissue. Your body will at some point have to pull protein from somewhere and it's gonna probably be skeletal muscle tissue. However, honestly probably not an issue for a 24 hour fast since you're still in the process of digesting some food and there's plenty of protein still in your bloodstream.
>>76769472Tried it for a week. Once i started eating again I couldn't pee or poop for 3 days
>>76770561sorry that was a dumb question i meant on psmf**
>>76769784Source: I made it upDid hunter gatherers somewhow not have access to fruits, roots, fish, honey, or edible greens the likes of which your average Boy Scout could easily find in the wild? Did their meat spoil after one day because they didn’t salt it, smoke it, or cook it?
>>76769472i do it at the start of my cut no downsides really and it saves you like a month of extra low calorie if you do it for 5-7 days
>>76769472I've tried it, but I get infinitely more benefit from dry fasting. 36 hours is very doable without the need for any kind of electrolyte cocktails. I personally do it every 2 weeks and it's like a giant reset button for my entire physiology and mental landscape. Also helps reverse tolerance to caffeine, stimulants and cannabis, which I all depend on for my work and regular high intensity exercise.
I've done multiple fasts ranging from 24 up to 100 hours, but my usual fast is somewhere around 48-72h once every 1-2 months.Only water, yerba mate, green tea, sugarless electrolytes (water with sodium, potassium, calcium amd magnesium salts). Just no calorie intake. You don't feel any superpowers like enhanced hearing etc. That's bullshit. Your body goes through fits of hunger 1-2 times a day, but if you ignore it, it goes away quickly. What you notice however is more time throught the day (food prep and eating takes suprising amount of time), being able to focus for longer periods of time (no blood sugar highs and crashes), improved sleep (it may be just me, but when I fast I fall asleep super easy, perhaps because the body is in "energy saving mode").I would recommend fasting for anyone, you just need to start slow. Go for 24h, see how it felt, wait 1-2 weeks doing your normal lifestyle, then do 36h or 48h and so on. Don't go full retard and aim for a week long fast on your first try.
