>>76770138A painter is an artist who creates individual works of art using paints on surfaces like canvas or paper to express ideas, emotions, or beauty. Unlike a mangaka, who tells stories through sequential comic panels, a painter focuses on a single image as a complete artistic expression.

>>76770340Maybe do a little research before talking. Painters create standalone works meant to exist on their own — mangaka tell stories through panels. Just because both can draw doesn’t mean they’re doing the same thing. That's why they're differently named.
>dips>SabatelliI haven't seen any of his works in person, but I fell in love with "The Plague of Florence" when it was put on the cover of /lit/'s Decamoron in 2020. Fun times

Turkish get-upIlya Repin
>>76772556I personally like the earlier one more for that reason. The colors in the sky are both calm and foreboding. The scene seems innocent enough at face value, but the longer you look the more horrifying it becomes. The goats eyes betray his expression. The women surrounding him look both contented and pleading. Then you notice the babies. Are the women asking for help from the goat? Maybe to bless the babies. Then lastly you notice the sacrifices in the background and it all comes together. The scene that seemed cozt a few moments ago now feels horrifying and illicit. Very fun piece

He was ever-present when I was growing up due to a reproduction of The Banjo Lesson that hung in our living room, and I got to see Abraham's Oak when I visited DC a few years ago.
