Really.I think the reason why high volume and time under tension are favored (by normies and smooth brains) is because they are suggestive of "doing more work" and most people, even if they know better, have a prejudice towards doing more work in the gym to meet their goals. Thats largey because so much of how we have been taught to think about exercise and body goals is bodyfat oriented. More work in the gym (combined w proper caloric deficit) is probably better for fat loss. But no really if muscle gain/strngeght is your primary goal.Jamie Lewiss of the old Chaos and Pain website had a great program that consited of lots of sets of few reps wqith heavy weights, so that you got your volume in (for hypertrophy) but used heavier weights for fewer reps for strength. I dont recall his frequency.Ive been using a mix of higher frequency, heavy weights/high intensity for the big lifts, and higher frequency, lower weights (high volume) for arms and shoulders. Its been working well.
